Ever wonder why certain colors were picked for the alternative costumes in Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Well, DamnLag.com has compiled a visual list of fan speculation and thoughts on the matter, showing how the various outfit combinations could have been chosen. Most of these appear to be pretty accurate, while a few may leave you scratching your head.
Isn't there a semi-official version of this¿ I remember reading some article talking about the origins of the alternate costumes. Some weekly blog or something >.<
Well the Zero color scheme looked pretty obvious... Minus the Axl from Megaman X7 color, did not expect that. I thought it was based on the Megaman Zero color scheme...

I'm suprised they didn't catch Wesker's #3 is based off Rebecca's alternate costume in RE Zero and Morrigan is obviously Lilith. Not to knock them or anything but how much thought went into this just I thought they would at least know Morrigan's other 2 colors.
A couple things to add to that list:
-Dante color 2 doesn't look like the Diesel costume, since Dante very clearly has a camo pattern on his pants and coat, which Diesel does not. For his color 3, its more likely that its a Trish color (since she has a color of him) than Gene, since Gene was not blonde and that Gene art they show is misleading (Gene looked different in-game and in other art).
-Tron's black and gold color is based off the "Stylish" Gustaff color from Megaman Legends. Heck, just about all of the colors she had in MvC2 were Gustaff variations if I recall correctly.
-Morrigan's color 3 is clearly Lilith. I'd wager her pink outfit with black hair is probably a character from a different game, as she's never had a color like that in any fighting game as far as I can tell.
-Chris's color 3 may be based on Leon in his RPD uniform, without body armor.
-C. Viper's 2nd and 4th colors being El Fuerte and Abel are a bit of a stretch. Rufus alt is spot on, though.
-Not sure what Thor's 3rd color is supposed to be, but it's definitely NOT Earth 9907 Thor. I just spent more time than I should have looking for something resembling that color, but didn't find a thing. Also, his old pink and gold color that got taken out was based on fellow asgardian, Volstagg. :P
Some of these they obiviously took from the blog post because it's hard to tell with She Hulk Lyra costume since both She hulks were apart of a team that wore that costume
it's even harder with Ironman's Mark 1 based sliver costume since it looks like the Mark 2 from the movies but in the comic Tony never had a mark 2

I cannot believe the sheer amount of people who seriously think the Axl scheme is MMZero. At least this article realized Tron #4 is a Servbot swap. No one seems to catch that. But Tron #2 is closer to Roll Caskett than Classic Roll (red jacket and black undershirt).
Why did Chris Redfield get a Cody costume?!? It does not make sense. Both games don't mix at all haha. They should have given him a costume he had in Code Veronica or other RE games he's been in.
They should of gave Chris Redfield the actual Zebra outfit.

Only female green hulk with red hair in a F4 costume is Lyra, he may not have had to taken them from the blog post.

I don't get it, really.. Capcom has so many franchises, but they pick 3 Resident Evil 5 characters and 3 Megaman characters (I bet X is in the game)

What about Breath of Fire, Rival Schools or Onimusha? How about Power Stone?

Yeah some of these are a stretch, Chris costume being the zebra outfit? Realy? Would'nt they just have added teh strips then like they did X-23's alt? I think some of these are over guessing. I thought that guy from Marvel.com was gonna do a series of where these color schemes came from.

She Hulk Joined the Fantastic Four multiple times in the late 80's and 90s, so it's easy to make the mistake now the fact it's been said to be Lyra who is a 3 year old character(Lyra first appeared in 2008) clears up any misconceptions
Wesker's 4th is Vergil and Dante's 3rd is Gene.....

lol, Ex_Ein you missed my point. You said he may have taken that from the blog post. I'm saying he may not have had to. I also said that the only female hulk in a Fantastic Four costume with RED Hair. Only Hulks daughter had the full red hair, same way Betsy Ross is the only female hulk with Red Black hair, there is no way to get the normal character and lyra mixed up.

Oroku, I don't believe he didn't, So I'm not sure how I missed you point. The hair thing, if you don't know who lyra is(Again she's only 3 years old) but know that she hulk at one time or another wore the fantastic four outfit you might think it was just programmers f***ing up the costume aka it's Possible to get them mixed up because you don't know Lyra even existed
Anyway I would have gone with this lyra outfit(since like the other 3 outfits it goes with the original for that character bodysuiit):

Thank you Cornwad. That is all I've tried to get across. I've been able to identify every marvel alternate I've seen, except for Thor's light blue costume, which like I said earlier reminds me of his clone.
I wish we could mod our own costumes....Ah! The joys of PC gaming ; _ ;

As for capcom,I love how Capcom's costumes are referencing old things and special characters.

There all awesome, the only capcom characters costumes that are "Meh" are Morrigan,Felicia,ryu and Chunli, They couldve ATLEAST gave ryu a Ken re-color with blonde hair :/

Like - Is that really Lab Wesker color, or white coat simply looks cool? Is that really black Dante coat based on Gene, or black simply looks cool?

I really think Zero's 4th color is closer to MMZero than Axl. It's definitely more purple than blue. The only thing that makes me unsure is the hair color. MMZero's hair is more Orange/Yellow.

deadpool's black and white one was from deadpool issue #1000 (which is a compilation of 1 shot stories so it probably appeared before) where in one of the stories, mime beres invade earth and land on people's heads, turning them black and white and speechless AND evil. one lands on deadpool turining him black and white and the rest of the deadpool corps gladly kill him

A bit more attention to detail (in concept AND SPELLING) would have made this list a more interesting read.
Just to let you know, this list was put together by Me and a bunch of guys on /co/ on 4chan.

On Lilith, she has purple air and blue tights, the alt has blue hair and green tights? Why is that Lilith?
Blue JR matches over captain blue (Who was there originally) cause of the scarf and visor colour.
Adrian Andrews has been changed to Sylvia from Viewtifull joe, she was originally there with a whole bunch of other pheonix wright charecters.
Earth 9077 Thor has been changed to Asgardian.
And yeah we took from that blog post when we could.

Third recolour is defiantly not classic Thor. He has black hair in that recolour wich is just stupid for classic Thor who was a blond.

Hope Akuma actually gets an alternate costume them a different color scheme. and also it would be cool if akuma will say "I'm coming for you Boy" when he faces Ryu!
All colors are pretty good, Marvel said obviously better because they actually mean something, but still....
