Capcom announced on the Unity site today that they're holding an artwork contest for Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, specifically for Remy, Urien and Twelve. As you may know, we're releasing Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition. Part of the game involves art, but as we started gathering various pieces of art revolving around the characters, we realized there were three characters with no real fan art around them: Remy, Urien, and TWELVE. This is where you come in!
The Contest: We are looking for Remy, Urien, and TWELVE art for inclusion in our Street Fighter 3: Online Edition title. Each piece should focus on one of these characters. Multiple characters from SF3 can be included in the art, but only if the focus is clearly on one of these three.
Prize: If you win, you'll get your art included in the game, your name in the credits, and a copy of the game on your console of choice upon release.
How to enter: Create your original art and submit it via a private message to me (Snow) with a subject line of "SF3 ART" by 11:59 Pacific Time, January 26, 2011.
Official rules are here.
Tip from The_Disturbed_113.
Fun Fact: I used to think Urien was really bad but when I used him I found that he's actually pretty good. Still prefer Hugo though.
lol, @KanyeWest that's mean and funny simultaneously.
Im with #10.
Capcom is a multi-million dollar company and they hold art contests like this all the time that I would enter...that is if the prizes were a bit better. All they ever have to offer is the product they are selling as the prize with no possible guarantee the winning work will even be featured in it. Yet if it's good enough they can use it how ever they want for Lord knows how long.
Come on now. Even for exposure sake the prizes are a bit insulting. Offer someone more cash, an entertainment set, or better yet... a job for that matter.
You put forth all this effort to have your art included in a game and all you are guaranteed get out of it is $14 worth of compensation?!? F**kouttahere with that noise.
Capcom's still trying to raise awareness of SFIII's existence?
It's sad, really. A3 was infinitely more profitable and this is the third time they're willing to dump money into SFIII, yet they're still going about it in the wrong way.
Instead of sinking Money into this or SFxT, It'd make more sense to have pooled those "resources" into SSFIV:AE/(DLC), MvC3 and any other potential other projects that actually have a legitimate chance of netting big income.
The Competitive community alone won't be enough to support SFIII, and that's all that the SFIII community consists of, the -infinitesimal- group of high-level competitive players.
If they really wanted to raise awareness of SFIII so badly, they should've both neither released SFIV series or drop distant future projects to start work on an HDRemix version, though even then, it still won't cap Alpha 3 in terms of sales.
I've already started mine. It focuses on Twelve (my main).
Lucky as hell that he was one of the characters.
@22
At least this is going to be a good example of how SOMETIMES Capcom is willing to put fans first and money second. Anyway, the fanbase for SF3 has grown A LOT since it first came out (not huge compared to SF4, though). I love SF3, and I'm not a competitive player, and this is mana from heaven. I guess we should just consider it a gift to the die hard fans who have been waiting for it for so long.
I find it hard to complain when Capcom gives us more sweet buttery SF goodness, and I would EASILY put down $15 to play such a classic again. Till then, I'll have to make due playing on my 2nd Impact cabinet. :D
@22
Also, since when is anybody not psyched about MVC3 (not counting internet doodoo-heads who hate everything)? Or even SFxT?
I could literally not imagine a more lucrative idea than MVC3 except for MAYBE CVS3.
Seriously. I can ask nearly ANYBODY in my entire CITY who plays video games if they're gonna buy MVC3, and 75% will probably say "F*** yeah".
i think im gonna draw a Silver Surfer parody (based off Uriens silver colour in 3rd strike). instead of a board i'll add Ageis Reflector as his surf board, or something stupid like that lol. uh-oh ive said too much...
forget it I live in Canada and the rules say only people in the States can compete :(
oh well, best of luck to you guys.
this is just my opinion but MvC3 doesn't seem all that great, can some1 tell me why they like it so much ? whats the "buy" factor about it?
lol how is this fan service? this IS an insult.
this is like askin someone to fix ur car and paying them in high fives.
did yall know that graphic artists get paid for this kind of work? and all ull get is a copy and credits?
i hope capcoms really actually gonna pay the winner but not advertising cash prizes just to keep udon comics from cockblockin
Once again Crapcom has forgotten that there is other countries in this world... and there no point checking Capcom Europe as they never have stuff like this. God i would love it if the rest of the world Boycotted Capcom, then they would defo remember that there is gamers outside of the USA
Im gonna enter anyways, ( just google an American address) and im gonna win and them im gonna laugh when they realise im actually from the UK :D
@ Everybody
The unintuitive character select screen will be replaced with a HD version and the art you draw will be the main characters image with the leftover art scrolling in the background of the credits.
Drawing Urien would be awesome. People shouldn't fear the male form, they should just draw it!
Anyhow, once again Canadia gets to sit on the sidelines and watch America have all the fun but those cross-border laws must be super crappy to deal with so it makes sense since they seem to have a tiny window for this contest. Good luck to everyone who enters!
@ 34
Consider yourself lucky Capcom isnt giving Canadians a chance this time around with this art contest to make a total ass out of yourself and your work. Imagine over 300 people (sadly more Im sure) in a big crowd fighting over a 15 dollar bill on the floor on top of giving a huge lucrative company (Capcom) a chance to use your work however they want. Not too bright a move I don't think...
I don't think people are going to be entering primarily to win the game. It's the chance to have your art in a Street Fighter game that's the attractive part.
Yes it's possible that Capcom could give "better" prizes but they're not obligated to give any at all, and if you don't like it, don't enter.
I look forward to this.
