So he got every single frame correctly consecutively or does this setup not require super precise frame execution?
Because a focus and low forward arent blocking???
I guess everyone can focus out of that, but ryu has more options for countering
If you look closely its not an unblockable, first off when he trys down back its clear that its a cross up burn kick, and when he trys down forward again if you look closely viper doesn't cross up. So if she held down foward on the 1st one she would block it, and on the 2nd one if she had held down back she would've also blocked it.
Why not just put the computer AI on block all and then try that again, as for reversals it's possible and throughout the match if its not properly timed you'll be eating that reversal dp into ultra so yea that sucks... this video is meh...
I guess people completely missed my point so lemme spell it out: the title of the this video is misleading. It says "Unblockable C. Viper setup in SSF4" the implication being it's unblockable, period! be it against Ryu, Sagat, gief or whomever. It isn't. 2, when Catalyst says "unblockable" he means "you can't stop it". proof; a few weeks ago, he posted an "unblockable cammy set up in SSF4". In that set up, even focus attack was found to be useless. So once again, when he says "unblockable" he does mean "unbeatable" and I don't like using that word loosely especially if it isn't true because it basically says 'watch this video, it's newsworthy' when in fact it isn't because this setup is not unblockable or unbeatable or whatever the #### you wanna call it. Do it for every character with proof, then we'll talk. Do you seriously believe that this is an unbloackable set up? Think again. Go try it with someone and see for yourself. You just have to block in the right direction, it doesn't mean it's unbloackable. It means he was blocking wrong.
@ #3 evilkyuubi: No. He recorded Viper doing whatever she had to do to pull it off and then just played it back against himself as Ryu. Common tactic for practicing safe jumps and other such wakeup games that require precise timing and verification as to whether you got it right or not.
@ #13 mustain: You know for sure that's what Catalyst means? It could just be that the titles of the videos are what he's going by. The Cammy video's title might be what's off here, not Catalyst posting it. If the Cammy vid said unblockable, then he'll say unblockable, and if this vid says unblockable, he'll say unblockable. Regardless of whether it's actually "unbeatable". If you know for sure that's what Catalyst means, then my mistake, but it sounds like you're just putting words in his mouth.
Anyway, Ryu could always do low forward to escape BKs. People have been using that trick since SF4, so I don't see how this has any impact on Viper's wakeup games at all when the same solution to the ones she used can be used for this. And other posters hit the nail on the head; where is stand block? Though since these setups rely on frame perfect timing to have your opponent walk forward or backward a bit before they start blocking so they always block wrong, I doubt it would have much of an effect. And always display inputs, man.
@ Kalm, fair enough, but does that video say unblockable? Check. Does it say it's only against Ryu or certain characters? NO! Is Catalyst supposed to review submitted content before posting it? I dunno, should we send him porn and find out? My point is, not everything is newsworthy and certainly NOT this video for reasons you yourself mentioned (lack of proof: where's the input display?). Even if it is unblockable, and it's not (I can understand the unblockable ultra set up glitch that was patched, but something as simple as a burning kick??? Really? Why has it taken this long to discover something this flagrant, especially with top Japanese players like Uryo and Dashio) the lack of proof should prevent this video from being posted here. That's all I'm saying. Many people come here, myself included, because we trust the information that's posted is newsworthy. But if anyone can post any nonsense claims without proof, it makes you wonder.
I'm not putting words in Catalyst's mouth; when I said "when Catalyst says "unblockable" he means "you can't stop it" " The point was he gets the video submission with a certain description and posts it, it's like it becomes his own words because he thought it was legit. Just like when a store chain puts a product on its shelves, it's saying it's safe for use.
Quality control should make a comeback.
@17: There's no input display because it's a practice dummy set on record/playback. You can't have input displays, other than on yourself, in training mode. How is there no proof? The video shows exactly what does and does not work. It's also fairly clear the video wasn't edited to do different burn kicks. If you're so skeptical, test it out yourself and post your own video. I for one feel this is newsworthy and interesting.
@ mustain21 #17
The video description actually does say against Ryu, and that he doesn't know who else it works on, and that Ryu can't block or reversal out of it. You just have to go to the actual youtube page. It's newsworthy for that, because there are alot of Ryus out there and there is proof that it works against him, even if it is only him.
Personally, the fact that low forward escapes it makes it completely useless to me anyway (besides the fact that I don't play either character), because Viper already has ambiguous BK stuff that is pretty hard to block, and low forward is an answer to that. Even if you can't block this, it doesn't matter. Low forward will work here as it does always, so it doesn't add anything to her game at all.
And there actually is input display for Ryu showing his blocking (thank you SeoulZombie #18). I missed that, because the quality was fairly bad, but that still doesn't excuse not showing stand block.
Good vid.
But why is this just now being discovered?
