How is Daigo a tier whore if he stated prior to Arcade Edition's release that he would be switching to Yun? Technically there still is no tier list, people are just making a tier based off of BP. As Yun and Yang are new to SSFIV its no surprise that they are used very commonly. Regardless of if Yun turns out top tier or not is unimportant, Daigo is playing him because he likes Yun. Anyone who plays a character based off a list is no true fighting fan.

Anyway, nice to see Daigo already performing this good.
Wonder how much Yun has in store though, the fact that he seems to be safe-jumpable and with no cancellable reversal should hurt Daigo's play. I don't really see him (Yun) being a vanilla Sagat-like character.

correct me if im wrong but i think this is the first SF game were Daigo is NOT maining a shoto? i cant use CvS2 as an example seeing how its more of a team based game then single fighting

Many of these people never played a fighting game competitively before SF4, so they don't really know anything. Their opinions are absolutely worthless.
People that always use tiers as an excuse are the players that suck and always lose. Tier whore this, tier whore that, like STFU already and learn to play. I use a mid tier character and I could care less if I win or lose against higher tier characters. I swear so many cry Babies on Eventscrubs.
I've played LOTS of fighting games and Daigo is a HUGE tier whore.
And its my opinion. Daigo is good I'll give him that. And I know picking high tier chars. is best for tournaments, but even so. I guarantee he'll NEVER play Ryu at Evo 2011 if he attends. And they have SSFIVAE

Well to be fair, Daigo counter picked Mago's Fei with his Guile in the Canada Cup. If tiers didn't mean anything, he wouldn't have switched.

I main Bison because I like how versatile and agile he is in addition to how ridiculously hard he was to beat in SFII World Warrior,Special Championship Edition (Sega Genesis) and Turbo (SNES) on 8 stars back when I was a wee little lad. SFAlpha, he played a bit different when they gave him projectiles and a teleport. Suffice to say, you rarely see any Bison's win major tourneys, but does that make me a tier whore?

Tiers don't matter. Sure some characters have advantages over others, but a smart play finds ways around that. Daigo has lost to Hakan in the past, and Justin Wong plays a good Makoto. It all comes down to how fast you can react to situations and knowing what to do at those times. All my life I mained Ken, and when I started playing Alpha 2 gave Rose a shot (was about 4 at the time, far too young to know what a tier is) and I still play her, regardless of a list because I think she's fun to play. If everyone just followed a tier list games would be boring. Not to mention the one person that doesn't would whoop everyone's ass since not everyone would really know how to counter a low tier character.

lol you cant speak for everyone, i use almost half the cast and most of them are on the lower end of the tier list. And for the most part i can say tier doesnt matter, why? CAUSE OF MATCH UPS. Tier lists can be misleading when it comes to relative power:
example E honda Good against most of the lower tiers kinda bad against the top tier, and due to more people using top tier during play E honda gets handed more often than his placement on top of the list would indicate.
aka tiers mean nothing when counter picking is much more effective >_<

I can answer that for you. He used Ryu in HD Remix who's mid-tier, Ryu in Alpha 3 who's mid-tier, Ryu in HD Remix who's bottom of the high-tier, Ken in 3rd Strike who's high-tier but not top, previously Ryu in Vanilla and Super Street Fighter 4 who's high, but not top-tier.
He switched to Yun because he's always liked the character, but never bothered to learn him because he wasn't really into SF3.

yeah like all say in this, tiers dont matter, all characters can win against other, the only true is, is that with some characters is more easy to win than others, like hakan vs rog, hakan will take a looooot of skill and patience to win, but in rog case, it will take so much less skill to win, rog will not be worried of hakan atacks hes godlike jabs will take that, and hakan is the guy that will suffer in that match against the safe dash punchs balrog have.
thats the true, tiers only matter in the case of how dificult or easy a match will be.
I only see one hakan match who daigo lose but in mi opinion it was only lucky for hakan.

Well the only reason that they are owning with Yun is because of match-up knowledge honestly most of it is theory fighter at this point until the rest of us who either don't have an arcade or sadly have no time to go to one (like me) will have to wait till the DLC comes out to really test them out.
Look it's like this Rufus is rarely used online because he takes effort to use and so will these guys as compared to well you know these certain characters that have fireballs...
Finally Daigo plays to win with characters that have the best options to achieve that goal and place in tournaments so of course he will go to those characters so It don't matter if he switches plus there isn't even a tier list to debate so you can't call tier whore without said evidence.
Tier lists exist for a reason. And that is mainly to show how powerful some characters are compared to others and vise versa. So tiers DO matter. Especially from both ends of the spectrum where a lower/lowest tier character (e.g. Hakan) will MOSTLY lose to the higher/highest tier character (e.g. Sagat/Bison). Assuming that the two players playing the high tier and low tier characters are high level players with almost equal, if not EQUAL amount of skills. So if MAGO is playing SAGAT for example. And DAIGO is playing HAKAN/DAN, then more often than not MAGO-SAGAT will win against DAIGO-HAKAN/DAN, according to the TIER LIST. Is this clear enough for all ya'll? GOOD.
@Chunners You're exactly the type of person I'm referring to. All you do is cry and complain about tiers because you know nothing about the game. Fei is considered Top- Tier in AE and Ken is better than Ryu now. You don't play the lose you play to win and if a character has more tools than others why wouldn't you play him. Stop crying and learn the match ups. FYI I use a Mid-Tier Character and I could care less about tiers.

It's also funny the people, who constantly make the same comment about Daigo being a tier whore, does not say the same thing about Justin Wong. I guess 3rd Strike Chun and MvC2 Magneto and Storm aren't top tiers (sarcasm). Quite frankily, I think you guys are hating on the bases he's from Japan and you want him to lose. It's obvious Ryu got more nerfs than buffs (if any) in AE. Then when Daigo decides to switch his main, you guys "lost respect" for him and basically built a shrine for Valle and Choi because they decided to stick with Ryu.
Daigo is under contract and he has to be winning to remain employed, honestly everyone has figured out how he plays Ryu and as a result he doesn't win that much and it takes alot of effort to win in super unlike vanilla with Ryu. As for tier lists i honestly think its over rated i believe match up knowledge is key, like i played one adon guy once that didn't know that medium punch beats out jaguar tooth he got scared after i stuffed it like 5 times. So a character is just a tool what matters is how you use them. Initially no one played fei long but mago did and now he is up on the list. I used to play only ryu because it was easy to win with but now i play with like almost half the cast and its more fun. Please for once enjoy the game and forget the tier.

Many wish to show their dislike to Daigo and countless other professional players.. Yet do nothing about. I would think downing someone just because who they pick or play and actually facing them and exposing them would make more of a statement.. But sadly the net is just become a coward's outlet of opinion..At least that is how I feel about it... I address this to everyone... Just those who post useless insults towards other players. As many have said before... There is no official SSFIV AE tier list yet so no one has any clue if Yun and Yang are top of the list yet... It would make sense that they are the most used so far due to the fact that with the exceptions of buffs and nerfs to the current cast... At this moment, they are the only new additions available to them at the moment.
I just hope one day, this site can be a place where we can share our thoughts and ideas without senseless conflict but, I suppose I am better off requesting the end to world hunger huh?

Not fully friend lol. I do admit that I have been on the 360 version a little more lately but I will start playing on both this coming week.. And from what I see, Lag is there as well. In my honest opinion.. No difference between the two versions, I would think the input lag that they say that is automatically on the ps3 version is why people think it lags more. It would make sense. Input lag+ online lag= More lag than normal. But even then it is not by much. Both versions lag no matter what and both have their good lagless matches too. But yeah I will see you on PS3 soon enough and remember, if any of you guys or gals wish to add me on either version just let me know and I will give you the info if you do not know it already

Dont worry about it man lol, trying to play anything on DSL connection is pointless. Its like everything is moving is slow motion but without any lag spikes or speed ups, i think folks call that moving under water. HAHA i wont be able to help you improve if im still struggling to do simple things online.
I hope you are still planning to take on Daigo again or atleast get to some tournaments this year to improve. As you see now his ryu is not the one you have to be worrying about >_<

I honestly do want to face him again... I do not care how or where it is... Even if I have to somehow make my way to Vegas this year for EVO just to do it then so be it. I can admit that I do get a bit frustrated at times when things do not go my way in a match but that is because even though we all started to around the same time in the fighting scene... This world of tournament and pro play... This is all new to me... So I have never been pushed this hard before. But I am glad to be.. I honestly do not care for the fame and fortune that comes with pro status.. I just want the wisdom and the skill to be considered one of the best one day. I mean it... Daigo, Justin, Sako, Choco, Marn, Mike...You... Catalyst... Etc. The list goes on... I want to keep facing any and every one of you. I am glad that fighting games have made a bold comeback... To be honest.. I do like FPS games... But they were kind of getting on my nerves for awhile lol.
i played some SSF4AE for the first time today while i was doing a bit of PC parts shopping in akihabara. mixed bag since I can't play on stick, haha... wish there was a PS3 pad option for arcade, lol. still, played gief, juri, and gouken against a guy with 12,000BP who was maining yang. almost beat him with gief (down to 1cm of health in 3rd round) and sucked with everyone else (gief is the only character I can even vaguely play with stick -- was totally f*cking up the inputs for everyone else, evn though i main gouken :p)
definitely get the sense gief will be tricky for the twins, simply based on my own showing -- and have the weird feeling that gouken might do pretty well against yang too (not that anyone would know from how badly i played)
only played three games, couldn't hang around. can't wait for it to hit console...
@63 yeah Daigo said first hand that the Twins would have a helluva time againts Zangief, probably a good character to learn if your having trouble getting through a bunch of them at the arcades.
@64 I believe Tekken 5 at one point had PS2 control ports on the arcade machines so it's definently possible to include something like a USB connection. Why they haven't thought of that I will never know, maybe to protect the machine I guess.

It's equally wrong to say that tiers mean everything and that tiers mean nothing. Not sure why some people feel the need to be polarized and cling to one dogma or another. Matchups have their say, that doesn't mean to say they're the definitive statement on the outcome of a fight or that skill isn't relevent. And vice versa.
People will never be satisfied until every match-up is 5-5 I swear. It isn't going to happen unless you want only 5 characters in a game. The best we have is SSF4 where there is no GOD tier. Saying that anyone is god tier in ssf4 would be out of line. Top tier is no doubt top, but bottom isn't in as large of a deficit as past games.

I feel bad cause I've been using Rose since Vanilla and this video just accentuates the fact that up close she has no wake up options, no reversals, no tools to deal with a lot of up close situations, Capcom really hates her really bad.

Yeah the tier debate is so silly. It was under my impression that Tier list was suppose to help you understand where your favorite character and how much dedication you must put into changing the bad match ups to better ones. They are not the definitive means to an end or beguinning of a character, it's just to show you how difficult the road is.
I have respect for Daigo but I am upset at him and other Japanese players who have also jumped on the Tier list wagon creating personal list for themselves based on their personal test play. I won't take Daigos answer as definitive when only a limited number of people got their hands on the game. Daigo is just a great player period who meshes well with Yun it does'nt mean Yun is Top Tier, I promise you in 6 months Yun will be so exposed and only daigo will stay on top with him.
