Sad that Hakan is not popular in the Japanese scene, I would think the buffs would make him more appealing; but its nice to see Cody being used more.

Yun is S tier because Daigo makes him that way.
Gen is not often played and I assume he may have a few new tricks. Tiers need time.
I remember when F.Champ made his tier list and it said that Rufus was top tier. Someone remind me please, where is he now?
remember -- this isn't a tier list. purely done on BP accumulation so far. some permutation of popularity * familiarity * actualy-tier-ranking, with populaity being the most significant so far. a lot of the really good players are spending time working out their game with the twins, especially yun, so he's very strongly represented.
thought gouken might get a bit more popular, as overall consensus seems to be that he has become stronger. not complaining, he's been my main since vanilla, will accept his buffs with good grace! (now at 8400BP, heading for 10K; had a small breakthrough with my game after Christmas, lol) :)

Although it IS interesting since projectile characters were supposedly weakest in arcade, between all versions but all the Shotos are 'A' level. (wait, does Gouken count?)

I feel there may be some changes once this comes to console so that over powered and Under powered characters will be evened out. At least I hope so.
With so many characters from rank B to S, I reckon that the roster is more balanced out this time. I think...
Remember this is biased by popularity so some characters are going to be high up by default(Ryu, Ken, Akuma).
Gen got nothing but buffs. He is probably not high up because he has a high learning curve.
And Feilong is considered one of the best characters in the game right now.

Gouken is no shoto. He has moves (normal and special) that Ryu, Ken, and Akuma don't have.
....Thus Tokido follows suit with Yun. Surprise surprise.
Yun - Because Daigo, Kindevu et al. have racked up a lot of points with him
Dictator - I would attribute it to him still just being a solid character
Ken - Popularity and the fact that Michael Tan is 3rd place currently in the rankings
Sagat - A lot of vanilla sagat mainers haven't switched and he's at least more powerful than super sagat
Fei Long - Mago, and Fei Long getting buffed
ETC. Etc.
Since it's based on BP rankings, it is indeed more of a popularity contest, and the top 30-50 players influence this "tier list" with all their points
Surprised Blanka is so high up, thought his nerfs would affect him more than, say, Guile or Chun.
only shocking thing is Yang is not S with Yun..
new charaters normally would get the most exposure....especially the fact he seems pretty high up there in actuall tier so tier whores would ride him while others would play as him to learn how they are.
Sorta like what Takido is doing with Yun.
What was with all that talk about Gief being up their even if this is popularity own the high tiers yeah right.
Gief was talked about cause he had the good chances against alot of the top people, just look at everyone the tiers above him. Only noticeable are Akuma and sagat that can just out right give Gief nightmares. And everyone else has to be careful when trying to approach gief. And not having that knock down OMG its hard to intimidate people.
But what we really need here is the same kinda list for ssf4 so that we can properly compare the two. Cause i dont remember seeing a popularity styled list for ssf4 just only the match up tiers.
Lol, doesn't take much to push Sagat over the edge. Sagat will be a powerful projectile character once again.
Yun is popular, so he'll have strong representation (thus he'll likely be high in the tiers as well).
I'm pretty happy about the twins making it in, seems they are a nice addition after all the fuss.
if theres a popularity list for mvc3, Haggar shall be at the top. then deadpool and dante.

Guy is totally being slept on and hes just so much better than he used to be, seems like he'll at least be a solid b tier or so, certainly much more viable than he was in ssf4.
Im really stoked to try out ae guy, i might not be able to use him in ssf4 after playing with a buffed forward, 3 frame short, fixed target combo among other things, it makes me happy.
haha, so my boy Gouken gets some seemingly very nice additions.........and still no one likes him!!!!! aaah, well at least no one can ever call us gouken players tier or popularity whores! C'mon the underdog!

Dont worry guys, No matter how many times anyone says yun is too good, the fact is that we who haven't played the game know that he isn't. But, wanna know what REALLY is too good?
Blanka ball, lariat, anything a charge character can do, anything you cant mash out of, and anything that wont let me jump in constantly
@markmorrison - why have got such a problem with gouken ? so frikkin what if he's still low tier in ae? Just cos people dont use him doesnt mean he's bad. He's great, especially with these changes. Or are just a total tier whore? and can't look past that he's lower tier?

Sad to see Blanka so high. I hate how most people play him online. At least AE Blanka is less noob friendly
I hope you idiots understand that the list, as it is from top to bottom, is referenced as to state which characters have been acquiring the most battle points due to being used by the players. As in, the characters that are more popular in that region of the world. This is not a tier list (not that they mean anything anyway).

Tiers ≠ Strength.
A lot of people seem not to understand that and just think you can only tier things in terms of how powerful a character is.
@ mark morrison 53. Fair enough, point taken. I agree Gouken is dynamite in the right hands, but you've got to work for it with him. Which is probbaly why he's not popular. With regards to the buffs I can't wait to try his ae version out, the jump mp into tatsu is a great addition, and opens up more damage potential. Very excited that can now combo more freeley from pokes and links, i always found it bizarre that everyone else can combo fireballs off a number of normals, and gouken only has his hp cancel. So that, the new palm, new counter input(which essentially now eradicates any chance of tatsu accidents with counter (and vice versa) and the air mp tatsu, and the recovery redused on air guard, thats a pretty damn nice amount of changes. Personally as a Gouken player, I'm very happy and excited to try the AE.

The highest tiers of this game are the characters whose characters are popular and characters that are easy/cheap to use. look at those characters, each one is a character that gets troll'd for being cheap, except maybe Viper, which is more of a your mileage may vary.

I actually started playing Gouken not long ago. My other characters were beginning to get boring (shotos, Guile, Sagat Cody and Sakura). To be honest, I find it fun to play Gouken just because it's hard to land a combo with him. When combo lands, it's rewarding cause it deals a lot of damage. So with the buffs he was given, I'm looking forward to using them (gods know when it will be out for consoles).

One of the main reasons my main isnt a shoto or guile is bcos on the whole, i find them abit boring. i would rather use a character thats abit different.
When AE eventually comes the xbox, i think i'll give Gouken abit more time. SSFIV Gouken is far to defence for my style (rushdown). His AE changes buff his attacking options
