An anonymous tipster wrote in that BradyGames will be making an official Marvel vs. Capcom 3 strategy guide which will be available at GameStop for $19.99.So we can expect to know the full roster by the 8th of February huh? Damn this month is going to be slow and painful.
I was given the SSFIV Prima guide along with game as a gift for my birthday. I was very surprised at the amount of info it gave about each character's strategy. It even had frame data for all the new characters...
I was very impressed...though I still wouldn't spend my own money on any video game guide...
Game guides now are really streamlined and in-depth, moreso than they have ever been. I've seen a few guides where I think they might be worth a purchase if you wanted that information ready for you to look up at any time. Usually games with a lot of numbers involved. I know that browsing SRK some of the threads can be a mess and I'd feel better if I had a comprehensive guide I could use to look up some quick info.
But they're not really worth 15-20 dollars.
people will have this game by the end of january
Well I guess we'll know the cast sooner than we think.
Hm... Rumors were Akuma was a secert character... Also didn't M.O.D.O.K take sentinels spot?
The King of Fighters guide for the 360 was pretty good. It had a bunch of hit-confirm combos, regular combos, and real strategies to use with characters. I'm betting this guide will be pretty good too.
Printed strategy guides are obsolete. Nowadays you can just go to GameFAQs for help on a game and for info there's places like Event Hubs, IGN, Gamespot, or if all else fails, Google. Some people are so impatient that they can't wait a few more days to actually play the game, and just want to know everything about it without being suprised by anything. I think that's the only reason strategy guides still sell. We've waited 10 years for this! What's a few more days?
Zero,Magneto,Dante all day best characters in the game!
Many written guides are soon made obsolete in the passing weeks that a fighting game is released. Why? because people are constantly finding new tactics and tricks for competitive play. the way mvc2 is played today is completely different from how it was played 10 years ago, and I expect the same to hold true for MVC3. I'm staying away from this one my friends. I'll come to eventhubs/gamefaqs for free.
I don't think this strategy guide will reveal any characters,i think there's a good chance all the characters will already be revealed by that time. I don't think capcom would let the guide be released like that without revealing all the characters themselves first.
I always buy the print guides, I like having the movelists and combo strings right in front of me, instead of having to walk over to my computer desk to look at a tiny text guide from gamefaqs.
Strategy guides are easier to navigate than the web but harder on the wallets. $19.99 is pretty hard to justify. That's my 2 cents.
Physical games/guides will NEVER be completely weeded out seeing how people are still without internet or doesn't always have access to it. I'm sure companies aren't willing to lose THAT many sales.
the last print guide i bought was for Street Fighter Alpha 3, back on the ps1.
@12
Though i do want megaman and gene, to me i think that MvC3 needs newer characters, its 2011 now, if people want most of the characters you mentioned then they can play MvC2. Not trying to be negative, its just the truth. Though i defintly think Capcom is going to look at the votes for Gene and Megaman and the like and at least put them in as DLC. Other then that i dont want MvC2 again(sorry but half the cast of marvel being x-men characters is boring)
<3 Elektra, hoping shes in. Emma Frost and Ms. Marvel for DLC :D
Newer characters. Too bad CGI animation takes up so much RAM. WE SHOULD HAVE ALL THE CHARACTERS IN MVC2 plus those that are new here in this one. EACH MVC should have more characters and more game modes. Then again, the roster damn near tripled in MVC2, that would mean that MVC3 should have like 150 characters, that might not be a good idea. Forget I sais anything. I wonder why the M.O.D.O.K. took Dan's spot?

MODOK is a very unique character and will be deadly in the right hands.
NO THIS MIGHT BE A WASTE OF TIME(MONEY) CUZ THEY DON'T KNOW THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE GAME AND ALSO I REMEMBER LOOKING AT THE SF4 GUIDE AND IT SAID THE DEMON WAS 2 X QUARTER CIRCLES FORWARD 2 X PUNCHES PLUS WE CAN JUST WAIT UNTIL THE PROS FIGURE OUT THE GAME OUT AND COPY THEM LOL
Ummmm....anyways.
I think thats a good question. When I first got into tournament play I lived in Minnesota, was'nt aware how big this stuff was but I knew it was big enough since it was being published in Gamespro every month. I just got Alpha 3 but had no arcades to practice againts people I got a stratagy guide and trained my ass off with my crappy arcade stick.
I think I could have went far if I had some real people training. It's harder to get good now at my age but had more competition been stronger in the midwest as well as better resources i'd be more harden. I think fighting magazines can help you understand the basics, they understand enough to know between pro and ameture stuff but won't go into the technicalities like say people on SRK since they don't have the game for that long.
Also Guides can help get through the collection process easier if your into that stuff, it all depends on the value you set on it.
Little concerned. They did the SCIV guide and I actually emailed them telling them how absolutely useless it was. 80% of the content was the move list already shown in the game. The character strategies were also terrible as well as poorly explained even if the advice wasn't terrible. It had no value for any player trying to learn the game or how to play it better.
I'd buy simply 4 the artwork I love the art style in MVC3
I buy guides once in a while mostly if I like the pictures in it. It kind of feels like a collectible for me. Also, I would get it if it was a good RPG. But for fighting games, unless the artwork is really damn good, I wouldn't care much.
I personally wouldn't buy a game guide anymore. Seeing as how it only covers the basic to basic-intermediate stuff anyways. If I'd want it as a collectible though, then I'd seriously buy it. But I'm not that hardcore anymore compared to back in the day.
Well, assuming Capcom doesn't reveal the full cast by Feb 8, I'm sure there will be some people out there willing to buy the strategy guide for the sole purpose of finding out who else is in.
