GVN Winter Brawl 5 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has finished up. This was a really hype tournament with a lot of games being played and some terrific competition.
It's going to be interesting to see Justin go against the East. My friend believes MvC3 could be the game that the East dominates in.

I can't WAIT until people realize Storm and Magneto aren't as good as they used to be and start playing other characters that are actually really good. Like Spider Man for instance.

I'm not really biased or learning toward either West or East Coast (I'm from Denmark, so it doesn't really matter to me), but the East Coast (where Winter Brawl is held) seems very underwhelming to be honest. I think a team consisting of Justin Wong, Floe and Clakey D. would pretty much roll through the team tournament there... they just seem so much better, even without the use of Sentinel.
Not hating, though. Just a little disappointed so far. Expected more than 80% Sentinel teams after having watched the Wednesday Night Fights streams. :(

@ Geni: A lot of people think low of the gaming community bro. By low I mean something thats not to be taken seriously, and when we allow, or even glorify commentators who use excessive swearing and accept "She (Phonex) had her legs wide open, and he dropped that dick in the pussy, and then gave her anal", as a way of saying "sh got beat really bad in that match", the message we then portray is that even WE don't take ourselves seriously, so why should anyone else. One of the best ways to get more notice is the make our streams and commentators more professional.
I wish I was as good as these guys are, especially in MVC3. I just don't have the time to practice that much. Still awesome stream, its just fun how these fights go thru.
RyRy's total domination of team SAS with Dormammu is unlike anything I've ever seen in Marvel. Felt like EVO grand finals hype level.

Good stuff to Jwong I personally do not hate the Robot, but I don't mind seeing him get beat to show that A)He has plenty of characters that counter him well (who happen to be great characters in general) and B)He's possibly not even the best character. It would be great if people get off the Sent backlash. Great tournament overall.

Justin won the past 2 wnf tournys w/o using sent so yeah this was expected especially after seeing everyone using the same sent/x/x teams because justin somewhat bases his team w/ anti sentinel strats. East coast didnt seem prepared for tron/wolverine/akuma/she-hulk/dog/etc because they havent seen it like the west coast players have. Shocking too considering everything is on stream and youtube now.

I think Captain America is underrated. With his backflip covered by an assist can cause some havoc with some crossover shenanigans.
Thor? Don't know - I think some of his move set is difficult. too many Dragon punch motions in his arsenal.
after 2 days of watching this i gotta say, this game is mad hype...when capcom fixes some things here and there it will be perfect...and god damn justin wong?!? he's on another level man, yesterday i thought that ryry kid could have a chance because he's really good too especially his dormammu play n stuff...but when justin pulled out she-hulk and the dog it was over

I don't understand how it's going to work at Evo 2011 for SSFIV. What happens if Capcom decides to release DLC AE before Evo 2011? Is Evo going to have AE instead or keep regular SSFIV? If AE, then you're technically playing another game (with new characters and nerfs / buffs). If regular SSFIV, then you're playing an outdated version of a game in the biggest gaming tourney of the year (which does not make sense). It's like playing 2nd Impact of SF3.

if people don't use sent, the hate will be gone. you can't blame people who hate him when everybody uses him.
@84 its AE not a whole new game, their giving you around a 1 month grace period to catch up which is all the time you need. Even if your learning Yun and Yang it wont take you any were near a month to learn them properly. AE isnt a whole new game thats why their doing that.
@89 You have people like marn and Daigo learning Yun in about a week or two and at that having to pay to play at that. Again takes no were near a month to learn a character, not saying your gonna master them in that time, that takes longer. And who says you gotta learn a new characte. Outside of the 4 new characters everyone else plays the same or if not similar to how they played in Super.

There's a difference in that SSFIV is notably better balanced in many aspects than SSFIV: AE and hence well suited for tournament play. I wouldn't be shocked if they let it stand, at least if the DLC hasn't landed yet (and I'm hoping the DLC will be itself rebalanced).

the main thing professional being done is the quality of the stream, which compared to most is pretty top notch. whatever the commentator says is irrelevant. nothing the mute button doesnt solve. These people are just being themselves while enjoying themselves, they dont have to be all polite when they are the ones running it. I can see if they are getting paychecks and working under a company trying to maintain a certain image but it isnt the case for them. Also dont forget spooky streams usually have the 18+ thing when going to their jtv page. Plus the trash talking and whatnot help build up the hype and get the people pumped up so its actually more welcoming in this type of environment.
Mvc3 not my game! Is j.wong getting worse at ssf4 or what, maybe he is getting used to ae. Mvc3 is just a game to watch, I ain't playing it.
jwong has a real job now and cant be sitting there killing time playing video games at his own liberty like he used too. Seems like alot of players were rusty, so safe to assume AE and mvc3 being in the main rotation would be the issue aswell.

@94: I am not sure why "being yourself" is somehow justification here. They are not representing themselves, they are representing the entire community. If that stream it top notch but the commentators are vulgar and offensive, then we in turn turn away many people who are then offended. There is a reason why sports announcers are not allowed to say certain things when on the air. professionalism is huge and really should be taken into consideration in the gaming community. I mean,I don't want to let my little cousin watch a street fighter tournament, and then have to watch for swear words and comments about female genitalia, and be prepared to mute the volume! I should not have to do that.

Playing AE has affected a lot of tournament play from the looks of it also I enjoyed how more people were hype for sf4 than mvc3 until grand finals were Wong was the only one using diverse teams. Also ski getting on dsp in the comments is stupid have you ever heard him in mvc2 he blabs like an incoherent drunk to the point no one else bothers to commentate I was so glad he wasn't int the big clockwork/neo match he would have killed it for me.
#85 but they shouldn't care who people's character choices are, seriously character choice whether based on being a fan of said character, playing due to strength, playing the underdog, playing the high tiers etc is a CHOICE, they paid for their copy of the game they should play whatever they feel like. Backlash due to a character being used a lot isn't productive, playing your own characters and optimizing them is.

I can understand where you are coming from, but their streams usually have the 18+ thing before proceeding to watch. So having young ones around is something you have to be mindful of not them.
And seeing how this is a fighting game that glorifies beating the crap out each other and became big from the insane trash talking, and big money matches when it comes concerning a marvel vs game, the thing that bother you more than all that is the language used? >_<
Im guessing you never really been around when mvc2 was the main show, i'd say what happen here with the mvc3 to be more tame honestly.
Reason why sport announcers have to watch their tongues is because they are getting paid for it and are on national tv usually.... this is a fan run stream on the internet that people take out their own time and resources to run. These 2 thing are in totally different leagues.
Tv have a rating system they must abide by or end up being shown at odd hours too limit exposure to younger folks. Alot of these game commentators are known for the things they say, to deny them of that is like taking away there personality. So yea i say them being themselves is a valid reason.
So if you so desperate to allow your little cousin or whatever to watch the stream ignoring the 18+ which they have when you watch the stream from there page, you are to blame and your rant misplaced. While understandable its almost like the idiot parents that let there little ones play GTA games and transfer blame to others for their neglect.
