A few sales numbers for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have hit the web for Japan and the United Kingdom. In Japan, the PlayStation 3 version of the game was in the 2nd spot overall, moving 67,187 units. The Xbox 360 version didn't fare as well, but still managed to take the 8th spot and get 13,779 units out.Capcom shouldn’t be too perturbed though as the third iteration has sold nearly as many copies in one week as it’s predecessor did (on PS2 and Xbox) in its entire lifetime (Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was released on PS2 and Xbox way back in week 48 2002 and debuted 183rd in the chart).

this is only in U.K and japan.. the ps3 always sells more than the X box there than in the U.S.. still ps3 will sell more in the U.S simply because casuals prefer the ps3 controller for fighting games than the xbox controller.. its crazy how even then, tournaments still us the xbox to play on (from what I noticed) even after knowing that more people buy it and play it for ps3...i guess its because most people that go play with fight sticks so it dosnt matter as much :/.. i bought it for ps3 btw...
I like PS3,NOO I like XBOX360!! Seriously!? The people that argue about which system is better really need to get a life.
I really don't think this game would sell. I am not buying and people are modding their xbox360 and most recently their ps3 to play games even before it comes out. Personally this game is not a high point for me.
This game isn't gonna sell as much on the 360, mostly cuz xbox players love their fps games.
wow guess japan is definitely getting into this Marvel game, or maybe cuz of TvC
Honestly, the reason why the X360 version sold less is because people are downloading it instead of buying it. The PS3 is now jailbreaked but not many people know/tried it yet so that is why the ps3 sold more copies. That's the real reason so stop flaming over which system is better. They both need an upgrade.
Wow. I guess no one knows how sparse 360s are to PS3s in Japan. The figures I got from vgchartz is that there are currently 1,461,761 units of Xbox 360s sold in Japan while there are 6,328,975 PS3 units sold. This means that the ratio is 1:4.32 in Sony's favor. The ratio above expresses a 1:4.88 ratio which means that MvC3 sold proportionately more than the 360 in sales, but still not as comparable as some of you are making it out to be. Sony has roots in Japan and a much stronger ground hold compared to Microsoft.
@7 & @11: Are you two serious? Your comments are very ignorant. There's plenty of 360 owners like myself who play a lot more than just FPS. Plus not to mention that there are plenty of FPS on PS3 as well, & most people are also playing COD: Black Ops on PS3, so it's not just 360 owners that just play FPS.
Plus this game doesn't suck compared to MvC 2. At all. You guys need to get your heads out of the sand.
@13 & 14: You both are completely right. Haha.. I was saying the same thing in my head when I was read the article.
PS3 95% dominates Xbox 360 in the Japanese video game market. That other 5% is Kinect and 360 exclusives. Go figure.
What I said above doesn't include Nintendo.. btw.
I think some of it also stems from the fact that it's a completely different system. I mean, if Japan wasn't big on versus games before, why would they suddenly get interested? Street Fighter is best known and that's what's gonna sell most. That's what will help sell SF x Tekken.
I hope MvC does well, it'll be interesting to see how the revenue stacks up.
Well,in response to some of you, the game does "suck" if compared to MvC2. The lackluster roster that this game brings to the table doesn't help. X - factor was unnecessary; give us a combo breaker like in tvc. Lacks the essence that made it a mvc game. This game is made by tvc team so I'd expect the game to turn out this way. Hmm... I don't like it as much as other recent titles; SSFIV, SFII remix, MvC2 PSN/xbox, etc.
@ #11
You are aware that its just UK and Japan sells don't you and that's its doing great down in the U.S canada don't you? Also pirating the game isn't really taking away any game sells,sf4 still sold 3 million copies all around and it was on xbox360. the people that downloaded it wasn't going to buy it in the first place.
Thanks I really wanted mvc3 to be good but I also thought that about final fantasy 8, 9, 10...... I was hyped like the most of us but you just have to understand that this game is like the "smash bros" of the vs series. Just like you can turn items off, capcom should let us turn x-factor off.
Also I am fully convinced that people who do love this game are the ones that sucked at the previous title/s. I played Mvc3 for 4 hours and got to world rank 1800. And yea I'll admit it, it was mainly x-factor comebacks.
Purely a waste of time! Where is cvs3. Argh! I am sure capcom is going to put a word out, that no one should show any broken character. In game like this, that is sure to happen, you can't just pick a team and win, you have to start looking for counters, sad.
@22:
"Also I am fully convinced that people who do love this game are the ones that sucked at the previous title/s."
Not true at all. I like all MvC games, including MvC 3, & I don't suck at them. There are also other good reasons why people like myself like MvC 3 more so than MvC 2, such as a better cast of characters (to be honest, most of the characters in MvC 2 were nothing more than clone &/or obscure characters), better soundtracks, return of endings, etc.
I agree with #17. MVC3, to me, has turned out to be a huge disappointment with some of it's unnecessary features. After SSF4 AE and MK9 become available to the general public, MVC3 will die off soon afterward.
I think MvC3 is a great game. I think this version is good for newcomers to get in to the game with out being alienated by people who have played MvC2 and SSF4. In MvC2 in was near impossible to make a comeback if you only had 1 character left and in SSF4, some people have a social life/work and haven't got the time to learn 1 frame links etc. MvC3 is here to stay and you'll just have to adapt.
That's why people can be more sloppy and still get wins against other players, that's exactly what Capcom was set on doing. While it does make oodles of money, the never is never has good because it loses its "concentration." Still, at least it should be fun.

MK9 lol ok you people are just trolling now. Since when has mk ever held down a big tourney scene. You people don't even know how the game will even play and MK games are always the most broken of games. After evo Don't expect mk to make it back their anymore but I bet you mvc3 will be at every evo.
@33
LOL if you think the tourney scene decides whether a game is good or not, or will make it sell. Most people who play any video games don't know or care who tournament players are, hell I know who they are and I still don't care. Call me when they make more money and get more women than regular people.
As long as MK9 is fun it'll do well. The game and the people will speak for itself, not "x" tournament player nuthugging weeaboos.
(Note to self:
I guess saying 'weren't not designing this for Japan' gets 'em to buy it anyway.)
