Street Fighter 4 series producer made some waves when he mentioned that he'd like to do a Nintendo X Capcom cross over game. The buzz was to intense around this project, it even managed to get back to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata."I certainly don't think anything is impossible, though not terribly likely is probably a way to phrase it," Ono said.
And what about that encounter with Iwata? "I had to go to Nintendo President Iwata-san and actually apologize that I let things get out of hand," Ono told us laughing, perhaps slightly embarassed by the entire situation. "But maybe this whole conversation could be the start of something like that… or maybe it ends with me in the dog house with Iwata-san. Time will tell where [this is] going to go."
Also, in another story on IGN, Ono briefly chimed in on the case for Darkstalkers, basically saying the title hasn't generated enough interest to get green-lit.
Oh boy, here comes another s**tstorm.
Well, I knew it wasn't very likely, at least not immediately. But I would like to see a collaboration eventually. While I love the Smash Bros fighting games, I'd like to see a crossover in more of a VS-style gameplay. The reason? Because it would be more of a challenge for the developers. It's incredibly easy to make a Smash moveset for any character, as games like Super Smash Flash 2 have shown. But it would be more difficult to translate Nintendo characters into a VS format. So I want to see how they could pull it off. Things like Kirby's copy abilities will certainly create some very unique fighting styles in the VS environment.
@yaranaika
Like the Capcom community is SO much more mature. Face it; every fandom has its loudmouth idiots and fanboys. Both Nintendo AND Capcom. There's plenty of crap on both sides.
Meh, it would be cool but,
it would end up being a wii exclusive.
At best I'm hoping this actually happens. Obviously that's the best (highly unlikely) scenario.
At worst I'm hoping this gets Mega Man in SSB, which was supposed to happen in the last game.

I've never understood this sentiment. I mean I understand that people in the fighting game community don't care for SSB, but I don't get the hatred for it. Hating is too much effort.
Also, consider this. SSF4 has been out almost a year and it has sold 1.6 million units. SSBB sold 500,000 units on Day 1 (before the game even launched outside of Japan). My point is that we're seeing a huge growth in the fighting game community thanks to Capcom starting the trend of making deep fighting games with mass appeal. Getting SSB players into the fighting game community means getting the masses into fighting games, and that's the ultimate goal.
@Syirine
Your argument falls flat when you realize:
1. Smash Bros has featured more "realistic" characters like those from The Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem series and the game still looks fine. Even Solid Snake fits perfectly in with the rest of the cast.
2. Capcom has its own set of "cartoony" characters like Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, and Arthur that look perfectly fine fighting alongside more "realistic" Capcom characters and superheroes.
@CyrusBlue
Learn what a fighting game is.
Fighting game--a video game genre where the player controls an on-screen character and engages in close combat with an opponent. These characters tend to be of equal power and fight matches consisting of several rounds, which take place in an arena. Players must master techniques such as blocking, counter-attacking, and chaining together sequences of attacks known as "combos". Since the early 1990s, most fighting games allow the player to execute special attacks by performing specific button combinations.
Now realize Smash meets this definition.
WOW.
I hope I don't start any flame wars for this but in my opinion I think that smash bros(melee) may be the best fighting game of all time. It's both accessable and deep, it's very customizable it's still got a massive fanbase, the only problem is the fanbase/tournment scene is most annoying bunch of fools I have ever seen.
However putting that aside I like street fighter much much better than smash bros, because capcom actually cares about the competitive scene more than nintendo does and capcom actually updates they'ere games unlike nintendo.
Those are just some of the reasons I converted over to street fighter/vs series games. But I still think that super smash bros melee is the greatest just because i can actually get my friends to play it with me
I play smash bros and love capcom fighters. That would be insane having a nintendo vs capcom vs game oh man. That'll sell like crazy.
i want nintendo vs capcom and capcom x nintendo smash brothers. it'll be like what they're doing with tekkan, but it would be a game i can play. i can't play tekkan and i couldn't be bothered to learn it since it already takes too much time to learn street fighter and smash brothers :(
I knew Ono was trolling, especially making too many announcements of too many projects.
@1
That would only happen if Capcom makes it Smash-like (i.e. using the special button to do a Hadoken and hitting the Smash Ball to have the ability to do a Super/Hyper/Ultra. Chances are, it is less likely as Capcom wants their games to be more competitive than the casual Nintendo.
Smash Bros. Is Unique fighting system which makes it Different from Traditional Fighting games, However you cant say it cant be hardcore for any reason because it is.
Too many gimmicks? Turn off Items and choose a regular Stage Problem solved, and your arguement is Invalid. No point in saying any Bull Cr*p on it cause then your a troll.
Dang, this idea would be cool, seeing Nintendo's Characters Fight in a Vs. Style would be great to see, the Smash bros. System is very unlikely to happen because its the only one to Use it while the Vs. System was used in several games.
Also whats wrong with it being on Wii? They will most likely give us more Controller options then Tastsunoko vs Capcom and since Nintendo's in it they would Work very hard since games made by them are the Highest Point in the Wii, and the Online is great but not perfect but its easy to get used to. Stop Whinning about it, it makes you look WEAK
Ono always be trolling. But the thing about Smash haters is that A) they suck at the game and B) they never give a reasoning behind why they think Smash sucks as a game. Seriously they never do.
SF is a fighter based in the layout of non-analog arcade stick and 6 buttons layed out on a table. Smash is a fighter based around the sensitive Analog stick, face buttons, and shoulder buttons. Both work perfectly for their very unique style of gameplay and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Still, if a crossover were to happen, I'd rather capcom do it in the form of Versus style. Reason is that Nintendo's lost their mind and never wants Smash to be remotely competitive again after what the unintentionally awesome Melee became.
Um Let's Finish Capcom Vs Snk 3 and SVC Chaos 2 .
and id rather see Tekken VS Virtua Fighter and
Mortal Kombat Vs Killer Instinct and maybe just maybe
Marvel Vs DC Universe Game.
@Kenshiro
If "accessible game" means "not a fighter," then the VS series or SFIV wouldn't be fighters either. Since you likely consider the latter two to be fighting games, obviously, you're full of crap.
Going back to that earlier definition that you skipped...

Well what do you know. Smash is a fighting game.
What I wanna know is why people dislike brawl over melee??? I thought both were good games and I'm pretty good at both but I never understood why people didn't like brawl all I'm hearing is because of the smash supers but you can turn those off.... And besides I liked the smash super moves I thought it added something new to the smash bros series
It's funny that all the people who go "Smash is just a party game" never really give any reasons or definitions.
Oh hai guise, Street Fighter can be played at parties so it's also just a party game herp derp!
jesus people are small-minded >_> and you guys complain about smashers...
does it really matter if it's not a "traditional" fighting game? there's still an awful lot of depth in every game in the series that isn't immediately apparent and there's a large skill spectrum in the playerbase just like with any of "your" fighting games
@ naters
Brawl compared to Melee removed: jump cancel, L-cancel, crouch cancel, float cancel, double jump cancel, power shield reflecting, wavedashing, and a lot of HIT STUN
Brawl added: automatic lag cancel on some aerials, automatic fast falling on some down airs, automatic ledge grabbing for most characters, automatic cancel for running up smash, slower run speeds, slower fall speed, and TRIPPING
Basically, Brawl is slow, made too many things automatic, removed too many advanced techniques, and doesn't have combos beyond a few hits. Brawl needs to have tournament matches at 3 stocks just so they don't last forever.
If on capcoms side the characters looked like they did in puzzle fighter and gem fighter then im down for it with a simple fighting engine like tvc,mvc3 (not like smash bros though). Nintendos console needs some love too lol I'm calling Kirby,mega man,torn bon!!!
@24 the problelm with it being on the wii nobody plays there wii not even me its my xbox first ps3 second and wii way last i havent even played a game on my wii since re4 and havent found much reason and tvc was ok not the best ok
If this game someday make it though, I hope it would be made by Capcom, unlike Nintendo, they seem to care about the competitive level of their games.
Melee was the best Smash game because it was the one which was the closest to a competitive fighting game. And instead of making Brawl even more deep and interesting, they "noobed" the gameplay in order to make it a more casual friendly game...
Like removing what makes a game competitive will make the casual players happier. Melee was fine for both casual and hardcore players.
What a waste...
"Not terribly likely"
Well I hope someday in the future it comes to life. It sounds like a good idea!
For now, though, I have MvC3 to keep me occupied.
Oh and, "SSB is a party game".Yes, I would consider SSB:Brawl to be nothing more of a party game, but check the competitive field for SSB:Melee (mainly what #41 said), and I'm more than sure if SSB had Capcom characters instead of Nintendo ones, the majority of comments would be different.
Food for thought.
