Yoshinori Ono was in Northern California this morning and answered some questions on a live stream hosted by the Capcom-Unity folks.
Ono is doing a fantastic job promoting
Super street fighter4 for the 3ds.
Keep it up guys, love this game.
Ono said "please wait a while" when asked about a PC version.
I had a meeting and missed the whole damn thing. Oh well. Did he actually give solid answers to the questions? Besides admitting he's a troll.
#5 I didn't realize this was a character request post... oh wait.. it's eventhubs.. every post is a character request.
"The DarkStalkers petitions going around haven't gotten enough signatures to convince the big wigs back at Capcom to give it the go ahead."
But there was enough for the go-ahead for SF v T? What a crock. Even before Vanilla SFIV was even in arcades, Ono was rallying people for his Darkstalkers campaign. Despite all the overwhelming support, the so-called bigwigs are still being fickle about it.
Bad move on their part, shafting half of MvC3 and all DS outright in favor of SFvT. It's like they're selectively ignoring DS at this point.
"He said part of his job is to troll"
And you lot fall for it all the time haha. Good job Ono :D
"He said part of his job is to troll."
And he does a damn good job of it too. In fact, all of Capcom are very good at their job.

As Capcom proved that appropriate marketing and carefully-selected release dates can accomplish success with TvC, I doubt I'd buy that excuse no matter how cheaply it's pitched.
It is completely in Capcom's hands at this point whether or not they intend upon making darkstalkers successful at all, it just seems that they're intentionally choosing not to.
Darkstalkers was a great and creative game (not to mention it had some of the most beautiful art and designs I've ever seen, less detailed but more animated than even Street Fighter III), but the fanbase isn't that big. It's going to be an uphill battle getting another one made. Even if we manage to convince Capcom it's worth making, they probably won't even start until after Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Street Fighter × Tekken are complete. That's a reality we're just going to have to deal with.
In addition to the series' core fanbase, there are hundreds of thousands of perverts fawning over characters Lilith and Felicia. How can we use them to make the game more marketable? :(
"The 3DS version of SSF4 isn't going to have voice language toggle option like in the console version for Japanese or English voices on a per-character basis, this will be based on the region you buy it in."
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! ='(
I like original (Japanese) voices soooo much :(! Meh... if the game still has a voice volume option I'm gonna turn it down =D!

As much as a I'd like to see a new DS game, a couple thousand signatures to revive an underground franchise from the 90's means nothing to Capcom. Anything SF takes priority at Capcom because it's the easiest way for Capcom to run a successful business, i.e. create a product that appeals to the greatest number of people to maximize potential profit.
Capcom knows that diehard fighting fans will wait as long as it takes for a new DS and whether they make a new one now or in 5 years, consumer interest will be about the same. It simply makes more sense for Capcom to push a crossover between the two biggest current competitive fighters in their respective sub-genres (2D, 3D) while they attempt to quell DS fans with fan service in every other crossover game.
Darkstalkers clearly didn't sell well the first time cuz no one knew about it. This time around it will sell well for sure. Mvc series was given proper advertisement this time around. Let us hope they do the same for darkstalkers. It's been rumored that a new darkstalkers is in the works. The cast will include red earth characters and newly designed ones as well. One of the new character for ds is a witch. Another one was rumored to be a priest. I don't know how much of it is true but let's hope it is. Darkstalkers 4 will own all games capcom have created in years.

I'd love to start up again. Hehehe. ;P RT @ReyMagnus: Dear trolls; Stop trying to troll @Yoshi_OnoChin. He WILL out troll you.

Pc ssf4 = win; sf3 online = win.
I love everything. Except the voice switch being taken from DS.
Lack of voice change in 3DS SSF4 is going to be a really big pain in the ass. -_-
I started with PC SF4. And to be honest, since SSF4 wsan't released right away for PC, I bought a PS3 and 360 since then. So unless the PC version was super cheap I would probably just buy on console from now. I'd hate to buy it on PC again only to find out it won't have support later.
"Oni and Evil Ryu were unlocked by a hack in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition"
lol, the hack must have gone everywhere. Oni and E.Ryu are available at the arcade close to me, as well as on the cabinet my uncle bought. :P
SFIV Executive Producer
Job Description
- Manage and coordinate various teams in game development process.
- Report project status and progress with corporate executives
- Meet deadlines
- Must be able to troll fans incessantly. Use of SF action figure to facilitate preferred, but not required.
@Oroku_Saki #35, You're so lucky!!! You have your own AE cabinet, I rather have that than the MvsC3 lol. You can start making people pay to play XD. How is yours unlocked?
@26
Yeah dude, don't troll, as #28 says.
That's Ono's job, remember?
Where is the DarkStalkers Petition?? I want to sign this!
I don't think Capcom can do a new Darkstalkers game. It'll be a nightmare to do it on a 3D engine if they keep the crazy animation style of the old games (they got the easier ones for MVC3 because of memory problems). And hd sprites may be just too expensive and slow to make. I wish I am wrong though.
@26
I mostly agree with what you said. Seems most people commenting on what you had to say forget why Darkstalkers didn't sell and are in dire need of a fighting game history lesson. Most 2D fighters around that time didn't do well. Not just DS and including SF. They should continue the series while the iron's still hot.
So yup, screw SFXT, it's Darkstalkers or nothing. And if you don't like it....gag on my nuts!
The way Ono is talking now makes it seem like he already has been working on a prototype DarkStalkers sequel to get the "bosses" to greenlight it. Except they still haven't....
What more do they want ? Jesus .
If this is how the MvC3 DLC is being done (through the bosses) i fear for the worst.
@51 I would also love a Darkstalkers sequel :-D If Capcom believes it would generate substantial profit, then there's no doubt it will come out sooner or later.
No voice change is a HUGE turn off for me. Well I got my copy of SSF4 already on PS3. There are other NDS games to get for the time being.
I need mah JAP VOICES
@47: He said he unlocked them using a debug menu. My 4 "friends" virtually live at my house now because of this.
It's their friends who pay.
You'll notice his tone has changed a lot recently, and he's warmed to the idea.
......Well I'm glad someone is warm! us PC players are out in the cold here, still "waiting a while".

People hate on it primarily because Ono behaved in a manner to be legitimately interested in pursuing a new darkstalkers project and got tons of people to support, but as soon as SF v T was announced, he stopped outright and later asked that the DS supporters instead try SF v T instead or else DS would never come to fruition.
The DS thread on Capcom-Unity was stickied for ages and had the most responses even before that game was announced and for no reason at all, the sticky was removed, which made it clear capcom literally stopped caring up until fans demanded it got sticked again.
Ono admits to being a troll now, so it pretty much sums up that DS got canned. One would also wonder if MvC3's development budget got cut in half withe the development of SF V T, because judging by capcom's sudden change in attitude, it certainly seems that way.
Oni and e ryu unlocked by hacks..NO WAY (sarcasm)! SF X Tk in good progess..you better. It's been 8 or 9 months since Capcom announced the game was in development. Basically, he didn't tell us anything new regarding these two games.
i dont get why they dont port ssf4 to psp. they don't even have to put all that touchscreen/3d mode bullcrap
C'mon guys, don't be stupid. Do you really think he can honestly answer even half the questions you throw at him? Seriously?
Random Dude: Will Poison be in SSF4AE?
Truthful Ono: Well no, the character choices were locked down before we even announced it, so you might as well not get your hopes up.
Random Dude: How about SSF4 on the PC?
Truthful Ono: Due to piracy concerns and low sales management has decided not to make one. Go buy a 360?
All discussion and speculation about a title would just stop dead it its tracks. Ono is very good at keeping people on their toes and talking about the game.
Son of a b!tc#. I knew it!!!!!!!!! I want an apology and rmika in AE for consoles dammit!!! That should do for now ono san. ^~^
Just like every other interview: Not sure, maybe, probably, not sure, maybe. GIVE US SOME ACTUAL CONFIRMATIONS!
man are voices really that important to people? would you rather sacrifice graphical detail, faithful gameplay port, etc. for the option to hear japanese voices? if it means that much, just play your console version. kinda ridiculous to expect all the bells and whistles, it's still a DS game after all.
@72 Some of the english voices SUCK TERRIBLY. Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sagat, etc. They're all TERRIBLE.
@74: There are some English voices I like such as Sagat, Rufus, Dudley, Cody and Balrog but the others... I'll pass.
CAPCOM, please do an update in which they can add the options to change languages for voice actors? It would make the game much more enjoyable.
"Ono said part of his job is to troll."
Honestly made me laugh.
