DualShockers.com posted a short hands-on preview of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The author talks about how beautiful the game looks running in high resolution (and a full frame rate), something that many people viewing online videos have missed out on.When Marvel vs. Capcom 3 releases in just under two weeks, the game will not have spectator mode. Players in player matches with lobbies of up to 8 people will not be able to watch the game taking place as they wait their turn. This is said to be remedied in the very near future, but still. Another feature that players would and should expect is the ability to record and save videos of their matches. This ain’t happening. And this may or may not be remedied (ouch!).

Really? That seems like a major oversight by their part if you can't see whats going on while you're waiting for your turn. They can't fix this soon enough!
Also, no replay channel? That's really surprising considering how popular it is in SSF4 (especially with the ability to see their inputs).
I wouldn't be surprised if this comes out in a new version of MvC3 in a year like Super MvC3 or whatever.
Wow, still hyped of this game, but that blows hard. Guess I won't be joining any lobbies. I don't feel like waiting 2-8 matches and staring at usernames.
Recording and saving matches aren't too big a deal(for me anyways), but that sucks we can't watch other people waiting our turn. :[
i call shanagenz dude really i was so looking foward to watchin my replays wit friends and looking for myself. and wow we cant spectate thats really bs maybe they should rethink that real quick
How could they take a step back like that? This news almost sounds fake.
This is almost as bad as making a chair with only three legs? Seriously, how could you forget that?
(I want replay channel! Turn it on and watch it when not able to play/doubles as television while I'm eating!)
(*At least I think that's what the mode was called in SSFIV...been a while - you'd be get videos streamed to you continuously.)
No replay mode means I won't get to enjoy other players play. That's so wrong!
wahh wahh wahh jesus christ all this whining and complaining if u dont like that u cant spectate then don buy it they said they was gnna update it so just wait omg you guys b!tch and moan about every little thing man this is why we had a sf4 game every single year people cry about a character and capcom abides and listens tryin to stop the babies from crying MvC3 is still a good game if you cant spec or save replays just yet then oh well it doesnt take away from the action or the fast paced mayhem the gave delivers just suck it up and play in 1v1 rooms or chat on ur headset problem solved
Is this a Joke or what ?!?!
This is a MAJOR Step back from Capcom, Inacceptable !!
How can we copy other players techniques now ?!?!
Pathetic. Capcom is taking you all for granted, knowing you will buy this game regardless of how little effort they put in plus the stupid DLC characters.
This is so stupid it's actually laughable.
However, if they truly are claiming to have it patched in the very near future...
Wow..... such a fail...
This really blows.
I just hope they will fix it. How difficult can it be really?
To make so everybody in the lobby can view the match ?
wow... but they do have lobbys, thats a plus
I won't mind not being able to watch matches during waiting in lobbies as long as it gets fixed soon. This doesn't kill the hype, though.
Wow lack of spectater and the ability to save and view your matchs??? i can see this aspect of the game will get a lot of negetive reviews thats probably the one thing thats going to keep this game from being great like ssf4 sigh -_- I'm still getting this game tho but capcom had better fix this problem and fast cuz thats just not fair AT ALL.
People are too busy b!tching about characters that this will get overlooked. Seriously who gives a **** if Megaman didn't get in. This is what we should be complaining about.
This is complete BS. Sorry but what is the point to a 2+ lobby if you can't spectate? I can't believe that this didn't get sorted out way long ago. If they were really having troubles with a spectator lobby they should have hired more people to clean this up.
Don't get me wrong im amazingly stoked for this game still and appreciate everything Capcom has done for us.... but this is retarded. I don't think I will be going into lobbies with more than 3 people in it until they patch this up. Seriously I am actually very salty right now.
@icejohn
ok ssf4 i can deal with but they made a patch for it in under a year and then they making another version that might be for dlc and the game hasnt been out for 3+ years....its retarded they update the game every 5 mins before ppl can fully find strats. The game is still young and fresh but people want updates instantly...i think its dumb
It's not a step backwards when you take into account THIS IS THE FIRST FIGHTING GAME TO USE THE MT FRAMEWORK ENGINE.
It's like complaining that your coke doesn't taste like Pepsi. How's coke supposed to taste like Pepsi?
They might add match recording later but understand that these games use different engines.
#43,...
MT framework was also used for TvC.....when you put out a product you don't make excuses. that's life, that's capitalism.. I can complain as much as I want ..why ? because they need me ..I buy because I want.
Having a lack of saving replays, and also a lack of watching replays is just prehistoric. using MT Framework for the first time in a fighting game is no excuse..MT framework is not even new...they've used it for other games...u telling me they didn't learn anything ..plz ...stop sucking capcom's D!ck
Some people need to STFU. Do you think they didn't want to allow spectating or saved replays. Of course they wanted them in. Do any of you whining have any idea what it takes to program those in? NO. For all we know this game could be maxing out the system much more than SFIV. It's a brand new engine and they have to keep the graphics going at 60fps. Remember, these systems are starting to show their age and are way behind current PCs. Unless you know what's going on under the hood in terms of programming and system resources with this game, you have no basis for calling them lazy or BS, so shut up. If they can technically do it without comprising the game, they surely will.
@40 Your annoyed by the constant crying, im annoyed too but this ain't some cry for "Yo my {insert character} ain't here." or " hey why is {insert character} in here?!?" This is a feature im sure a lot of people were expecting and to be honest I do (As many here do) have a problem with it coming out later. When we already had to wait a year for release.
I had plans to enjoy the game for a couple days. Was gonna use a personal day or two to play with my friends online and chill and have a great time. But if and IF this is true, it kind of kills it, i'd much rather not use my personal day for staring at names. Who wants to sit in a room of 8 people staring at eachothers names all day until it's their turn? I like seen two people on this forum that actually don't care. Your number 3.
I think I speak for the majority that this decision blows. Perhaps their reasons are valid and it's technical, im smart enough to understand that, but don't try coming on here pretending to be better than everyone here and lecturing people on their disappointment of this unexpected removal of a common feature on a very hyped game we want to play.
Oh Umad? Hell yeah i'm mad.
Nuff said!
@ 44 "MT framework was also used for TvC"
Wow, look how wrong this guy is! I won't even bother to read the read. But wow.
I mean, where do you suppose people like iag25 get their information? I'm guessing his OWN a-hole but I'm being serious. How does misinformation get spread like that? (lol, maybe he pulls his ass cheeks apart!)
LOL, I mean, for starters, MT Framework would have to RUN ON THE Wii for that to even be PARTIALLY true but I digress.
Rumor has it that Capcom is working on MT Framework for the Wii but DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH.
I'm not condoning leaving spectator out, but do remember that it is being patched in before going too crazy. Honestly it doesn't seem like they were ready to bring the game out just yet. I'm glad it's coming out obviously but it feels rushed
Also for Replays, they need to make it so you can search by name like what Tekken 6 has. I'm not sure if they are going to patch this in but Replays are pretty big imo
Damn, didn't see that coming. Guess I assumed having those features were a no-brainer at launch, after learning that lesson with SF4. Here's hoping Capcom will quell the backlash (a bit) by providing those features when the DLC for Jill and Shuma drops. Not that we should have to pay for those options, but I'm sure there will be a free update for the game when those two are release that will bring put all online players on the same page.
Then again, we might be waiting for those features until MvC3 AE or something like that. Boo to that idea, for certain.
Blazblue has the best features: spectator, replays, and the coolest one in my opinion, training mode while you wait for an opponent. It should be standard for all fighting games. As for replays, I'd like to have access to my own, so I can analyse my mistakes and stuff, but I can live without. For high level replays I can manage with youtube anyway.
February 15 will be a great day. The wait is unbearable!
I'm sorry but this is just crap. I don't care as much about the replay feature, but I practically live in endless lobbies in SSF4. No way can I sit in any lobby with over three people staring at their gamertags until my turn rolls around, screw that. I've already had a creeping suspicion that Capcom has been trying to rush this game out the door, considering it was originally due in spring, now we have it mid February. Losing what seems like a standard feature to have, just fuels my belief in that. They say they plan to remedy it soon, I hope it's within a months time.
So No Spectator? Thats pretty much destroys the reason to do player Match, Hope they fix it really soon!
oooh High resolution were really missing out on just internet Vids? That makes me want this game even more!
WTF. I don't give a damn about the replay channel. But not being able to watch while you wait your turn? That's stupid.
What's the point of waiting then? It'd be more better if you just leave and find another room with no one in it or make your own game.
This is just like Vanilla SF where you only had 2 person lobbies. I can't believe they didn't address this earlier :(
@ 57
Exactly. There is no reason to join player lobbies if the the people waiting can't watch. You might as well just make 2 player lobbies only.
That's pretty bad imo. A game like the vs series, watching other people play is fun and you could see how they play and analyze their style of play/who they use. Seeing replays of other players as well. We all can agree, this isn't good.
We are the consumer and we have expectations that should get met. This is not acceptable at any level. Saying they needed time for the MT framework is an excuse. Which shouldn't matter to us, the consumer. Ask yourself this. Which one would you want spectator mode and replays or none at all. The answer is obvious. I can already see my friends complaining about this in their own lobbies.
Either way I'll play ranked and play with friends in 2 people lobbies. Until this gets fixed.
Wow thats 99% of the fun of playing with friends is watching them beat each other up lol. No Spectating = FAIL
@ 46
my thought exactly, we all are tire of the complaining and whining of characters, and story(which we all new was going blow, com on). because all we realy are going to do is go online but who sits in 8 man room and sit looking at a screen for like 8-10 min for a less than a 2min match. both of these features are important to fans when playing with friends and helping them get better at playing the game, but i dont think the leaving out of these features will make the game worse but would rather make the game better as JamRock said sf4 was awesome but we got spoiled with ssf4 with all the new features because i think only blazblue was the only fighting game that had these features at the time and now we expect those features in every fighting game. so its not like the game worse now but it could be better because we now know capcom can do better. and like how sf4 gets better every year and how those costumes got moved up from that ridiculous realease date i think its ok to whine about this so to make the game better than what it already is
this alone will prevent mvc3 from being bigger than ssf4
*Sigh* Coming soon on the PS3 and 360: Fans vs. Capcom: New Age of Complaints!
Or whiners or something like that.
It's funny that this came out so soon to release date. What a major fail on Capcom's part.
They knew there would be a huge outcry about this, that's why they've never said anything about it.
They've tried to keep everyone distracted with how fancy the training mode is supposed to be.
I don't give a damn about replay but waiting on a lobby without seeing the current match being play that is bad real bad
developers should really step up and stop giving us incomplete games this is getting out off hand is like they are relying to much on DLC
Seems people need to step up their reading abilities.
Clearly says:
"Players in player matches with lobbies of up to 8 people will not be able to watch the game taking place as they wait their turn."
Up to EIGHT players.
May very well allow you to watch matches with less players.
I would almost think it's a purposeful decision. Once someone finds a DUC-type team. That's going to be the vanilla Sagat right off the back. This way people will experiment more in the beginning.
At least it's a bright side, right? A small pinhole-shaped brightside?
Don't use the Internet!
Screw replay channel, I only do that to pass time while I eat.
But no spectator mode? Lol I guess playing with more than 1 friend is out the window till they fix this unless you enjoy looking at names.
Ok I can live without the replay mode but come on man no spectator mode. How hard is it to implement something like that really? It seems like one dumb decision after another with Capcom. But I'm rambling & complaining I know.. I'm still hype for the game :D
I'm joining in on the "that sucks" bandwagon regardless of how difficult Spectator mode may or may not be to implement in the game. As buyers of online-ready Capcom fighting games we expect more.
Capcom pretty much set the bar of online gameplay with HD Remix (in 2008!!! no less). GGPO type system, being able to see ACTUAL ping and see long list of 'servers,' Ranked Match blind select / Player Match non-blind select. They did sooo many things right. Months later, we got Vanilla SF4 with its meager online offering and lag-central. "Championship Mode" was promised initially but later patched in.... Sound familiar?
MVC2 online - which quite a few of us are playing now in anticipation for MVC3 - had a similar online system to HD Remix. Now - once again - we're being busted down online in the next game. We have a right to "whine" in this situation because we put our trust in Capcom to be dialed in to what makes their games stand out and mean so much to us. Every one posting here is here because they - at the bare minimum - have enjoyed playing a Capcom fighter. Yes, at the end of the day character variety and gameplay balance is king, but it's also important to be able to SHARE the experiences with others.
On the plus side, unlike Vanilla SF4 there's the promise that a proper online lobby with spectator-mode will be patched in. I doubt Capcom is blind to how big a deal this is to all of us, and I'm sure that if everything went their way this feature would be in at launch. It's just disappointing and frustrating that it is not. Here's hoping that we can enter training mode or something while waiting for a match.. Otherwise I will avoid 8-person lobbies like the plague LOL
I can live without replay channel/mode whatever but no spectator mode come on capcom every online fighting game has spectator mode. mvc2 has it so why not mvc3... any reason capcom comes up with for why they did this not valid in any way shape or form
no Replay mode is a really big oversight from capcom and a big letdown for mr. That is just uncalled for after so much emphasis on this feature in SSF4. This has to be remedied. I don't particularly care for certain characters but I would sure like to see what they can do in capable hands rather than looking for them on youtube or other media sites out there.
"Another feature that players would and should expect is the ability to record and save videos of their matches. This ain’t happening. And this may or may not be remedied (ouch!)."
...*sigh*...
The game NEEDS the ability to save replay !
Come on, this is Captain Obvious !
@JamRock
This is a disucssion area, we are all putting our thoughts into it and putting forward how rubbish it is that we won't have replays etc, stating how and why it's an issue, so get off your high horse and quit trying to be a big man and let everyone post their comments.
It wouldn't make sense for it allow you to view 4 player matches but not 8, it'll either have you view matches in all lobbies or non.
The replay's don't matter much to be honest, but when playing with friends and such, just looking at a screen with names on will KILL the fun.
Well, I guess it's back to searching high ranked gamertags on youtube for me...
Oh wow, I agree........this is a big oversight by Capcom. I guess players should expect that to be included in Super Marvel Versus Capcom 3. But seriously, one of the best things about SSFIV is being able to see how well you messed up or how awesome you were by viewing your replay log.
Also, keeping someone in the lobby till its their turn to play without having the ability to view the match really bites. Being able to view a match before your turn does have strategic advantages.
Wow that...sucks.
