Looks good, but I'm going to miss the wet paint look of Shuma's old hyper. Glad to see him, though.

See, here's the irony I've been seeing with many peoples' opinions on several characters.
People complain about Sentinel only getting in BECAUSE he was popular in MvC2.
People complain about Strider and Classic Jill not getting in DESPITE being popular in MvC2.
Make up your damn mind, people.
And then there's the complaints about Shuma getting in because of a stereotype that the Japanese have tentacle fetishes. That's like saying that everybody who likes Haggar only likes him because they have a fetish with overly muscular, mustached men, who always walk around with no shirt. Do you people want to be labeled like that? As people who enjoy oogling at shirtless muscled men?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Shuma's playstyle was popular among people for being somewhat unique.
With the RE5 Jill Valentine, her play-style might be different than her MvC2 predecessor.

When you say people complain, you mean two guys on the internet right? Seriously I think the vast majority of us, are excited for the inclusion of these two characters. People only ever talk about all the hate a character gets because they only see the negative comments. I can count like 7 positive comments out of the 22 comments listed so far, and you don't notice them.

In all seriousness, most of us would have rather had Venom. I'm not even worried they'd give us a post-Brock version, cause I can't see that happening. Everyone who hears Venom immediately thinks of Eddie Brock the Lethal Protector, and that's who the people want. I have no doubt that's the version they would have used. My only complaint about Venom in MvsC was that they didn't capitalize on his Spiderman-esque abilities.
But Marvel Super Heroes fans will be the first to tell you that Shuma is insane fun to play with and his design is solid. Sure, I would have wanted other characters, but that's true of Sentinel, She-Hulk, and Felicia. I'm not going to let that bitterness overshadow my love for Shuma.
Or any tentacles for that matter.
On a merry note, this roster has exceeded my expectations, I beats the mvc2 roster by a long shot, so much variety, so much randomness, so much modok! The only thing i'am sad about is the exclusion of frank west but we are probably going to get him as dlc good times!
Never liked Shuma-Gorath, but I love me some Jill. Nice to see she has her RE5 Necksnap in aswell. I am not a hater of old-school Jill or Nina Jill-iams. She is my favorite character in the Resident Evil series and I'm just glad we get some version of her. Hope we get some vids soon!

Neither the upcoming nor the previous Venom are the same as the one from MvC2. Also, even with people in Marvel supposedly being down with Shuma's inclusion, someone in that company let Capcom do it. Also this isn't MvC2, so he's not going to be a straight rehash.
On another Venom/character related note, I kind of wish they would add the upcoming Venom. It's like the birth of Captain America except instead of a normal soldier Flash is black ops, and instead of a serum it's the venom symbiote. Good stuff.
@34 I'm with you. I'm picturing Cammy, with some gunplay (skorpions and sniper rifle), and a Sonson-like wall-run. We'll soon find out though.

Free? haha ya right. If you really wanted to play them and get them on the cheap it was as simple as ordering the SE; of course that was before they were becoming more scarce.
@40 I doubt it, but that would be awesome! Really curious as to what her specials and hypers could be. One will involve guns, but in an exaggerated way. As for the others? I'm hoping for some really unique ones. Summoning of the Executioner would be sweet.
This is literally torure, considering the fact that my pre-order was just canceled. Like, TODAY! I'll still get it when it comes out though, not really that big of a deal.

Or Capcom gave them those images and it had nothing to do with unlocking from the disc. Not that it matters, on-disc locked content has been explained, detailed, and rationalized by the gaming industry tons of times, including Capcom. Would you rather have to wait longer for a large download and pretend like they didn't finish this content months ago, or have a speedy download and accept the fact that regardless of how they give it to you this stuff was completed months ago?

Sentinel is not popular, he is broken, that's why he was used in all tournaments, it had nothing to do with his popularity (which he lacks).
Shuma is not really popular, I really believe that I could count with one hand the people that wanted him in, but he still got in, but for some reason, it doesn't anger me.
As for classic Jill and Strider, they were both good characters AND were popular in that game, that's the reason people want them back.
I've been picking up Shuma a bit more in MVC2 and I gotta say...
I like him. He could be a really unique character in this.
You don't like him, that's your biz, but he's been kind of a favorite villain of mine for a bit and hasn't seen enough spotlight. His inclusion (even though Capcom pushed for it) makes me think he might go back to his old awesome ways soon.
He was one of Doctor Strange's most powerful enemies (motherf***er made a VOODOO DOLL OF EARTH), and he deserves a comeback. This might be a sign of one.

I'm happy with the new Jill and Shuma being in the game. Jill looks more up to date with the times. I'm a huge Resident Evil 1 fan but that game is older than MvC2 itself.

@gambit is my favorite x men character next to wolverine. But i can see why marvel would want to promote other characters, frankly it was in neither of capcom's or marvel's best intrest to promote gambit or cyclops. Plus there is a lot of xmen characters in the game already. Also you gotta remember fan demand is a third of what decides the character roster according to seth anyway. It will effect dlc you know that

The guns hyper is all, but guaranteed, Cammy CQC ultra is my favorite ultra animation in SSFIV (I love when Cammy breaks your neck and says, "To late!", would be a great shoutout to MvC2 Jill's Nemesis summon. I am seeing something in her arsenal that involves a sniper rifle and flash grenades too since those seemed preferences in her arsenal in RE5. Maybe she'll even have a herb (healing) assist like in MvC2?

Herb assist? I think it needs an upgrade to make it more functionable it kind of sucked in marvel 2. If it healed a bit more then it would be invaluable.

That's not really a good excuse. The fans clearly wanted a definitive version of Jill, and it's not even a consistency issue. In the hands of a good writer, they could have explained her recovered appearance. Buy some hair dye and your practically done.
Arturo (Sabin) would rack up so many wins in MvS with a team of Shuma and Green Dan. He'd be over 20 wins with that team. It was disgusting. Just to mess with people.

Wrong there kiddo, Sentinel is popular with the MvC2 competitive players, that's why he's back.
Shuma is a fan favorite of the games too and he's popular in Japan.
As for Strider, he hasn't been in a game in years and Dante pretty much replaced him anyway.
I'm glad Shuma fans got him in. I really would have prefered to have seen Doctor Strange make it in besides him. Why is it the good doctor gets no love? Just for fun how many people would have prefered to seen him than Shuma?

Doctor Strange would provide some intresting options but i'm going to have to go with shuma gorath for this one just because shuma is a non humaniod character so it makes the cast more diverse and weird looking. Nonetheless dr strange would have some intresting tricks and would make a great addition to the roster

@76 I understand Shuma is a veteran, but Doctor Strange could have had unique gameplay and had alot of visually stunning moves with his spells just like Shuma. I know Shuma is big in Japan (at least as far as Marvel characters go), but was he ever that popular in America. He sucked in MvC2 and I don't know alot, if anyone, who likes him 'cus of the comics. On top of that it would have been nice to see him in since Dormammu is in aswell.
Remember in the flashback in RE5? Before Jill fell into the Ocean? Wesker and Chris both looked as they do in MvsC3. There's no reason in the world they couldn't have modeled this game after that part of the timeline.

You don't know Arturo? He goes by Sabin. Anyway, that's what he was do. He'd pick percieved low tiers and rack sup high wins. I think Wong was with us at the time, I don't remember. Maybe it was some other Asian guy, I dunno. And they'd take turns with that and just rack up wins.
Arturo LOVED doing that. Pick low tiers and rack wins all day. And that was one of his favorites: Green Dan and Shuma Gorath. Just ask him about playing near Busy Bee mall. This wasn't at Chinatown. It was back in highschool days.

Aside from the fact that's a minor part in the game? Fact is, with Wesker and Chris going with their RE5 looks, it made sense Jill would too to match.

He does have a following in the US because of his appearances in Marvel Superheroes, MSH vs. SF and even MvC2.
Hell, Shuma was the one that killed Strange's master and He recently appeared again in the comics.
Gorath also has the advantage of being a non-humanoid.
Besides, Gorath is DLC.

I'll still buy him with Jill when they are released (have to since Collector's was sold out and had to preorder Standard). I'm just saying I don't like his playstyle, character, etc. I can't see myself getting into him even if he is tweeked. We're just going in circles with this discussion though, so to each their own.

Your shifting the fence. The argument wasn't "which version of Jill was got more screentime," the argument was whether there exists a more iconic version of Jill that is compatible with the RE5 aesthetic. Not only does such a version exist, but she's on the cover art of RE5 Gold. That says something right there about what the fans want.
Again: there was no reason in the world they were tied to this crappier version of Jill, new moves or not.
It seems like Shuma was big a test for the developers just by looking at how nice his Chaos Dimension looks in the pic. Anyone else thinking Jill is going to be a Vs series version of Ibuki? I sure hope so.

I've been playing Shuma-Gorath since I was a wee little lad at the arcade in MvSF back when there were Arcades in every state. And I actually did good with him! He's a definat get in about a year or so for me... Hate being poor. Can't get a Job because, hmm, Band takes up a LOT of time...

Looking at her grab on Iron Man, it looks like she'll have some of Cammy's Moves Implemented on her.

He's the ruler of the Chaos Dimension, he's practically on par with Dormammu power wise on the roster. He played quite a big role in the Dr. Strange comics.
Plus Eddie Brock Venom, the Venom you all love, doesn't even have the Symbiote anymore, they wanted to include characters that'd be popular within the next few years Marvel wise. Though I'm sure Niitsuma wanting Shuma was just gameplay preference.
I'm going to main him personally.

He's originally a Robert E. Howard Creation, I like using Shuma in MVC2 and am going to love whooping your ass in MVC3 with him, in apperance he was pretty high tier in Street Fighter vs marvel.
And I'd select him and have selected him over every other character(Including Hulk and Jin) except War Machine in any game in the vs series to be in MVC3 and I'd select him as my leader.

not to forget forget the manhours that it'd take to put into some of the moves and animations the fans(venom's death bite and intro sequence to slowly have the venom suit cover Eddie/Mac/Flash, and yes Eugene "FLASH" THOMSON is the new venom)
