EuroGamer.net posted a hands-on preview of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but mixed in with all of the details you've likely read about before are multiple quotes from Ryota Niitsuma. But the epitome of meter-burning pyrotechnics is the Level 3 Hyper Combo. "Everyone had a Level 3 initially," Niitsuma says, "but because we wanted to continue the tradition of a purposely unbalanced roster, we intentionally left a few characters out. They don't all have an over-the-top style, and for these characters, we balanced it out by adding in something else."
Niitsuma's comment of "purposely unbalanced" seems like an odd choice of words - doesn't every fighting game strive to be as balanced as possible? But on reflection, it seems he's alluding to the sheer variety of playstyles which Marvel 3 offers. Indeed, with the roster split almost equally between new and returning characters, settling on a definitive squad isn't going to be easy.
Ryota added that the game is much more focused on the Western market than Japan, and that he wanted to add more Darkstalkers fighters and Capcom wished to bring back more people from MvC2, but Marvel preferred newer characters instead.
Make sure you check out this two page story for all of the details.
How Can This Be Balance when Nearly 10 characters has low health,sentinel kills you with 5 hits in x-factor,dante is broken,has 40 moves,team air combo without losing bars,and of course LOW HEALTH
I thought everyone did have a level 3. Well, that's good for sentinel, he still looks OP as he's too easy to play as. Not to mention in that stream he did the lazor mouth and canceled it into a rocket punch.
I'm okay with this. I'd trade in a level 3 here and there for some basic character buffs, like more combo options, unblockable settle, better health, etc. It keeps the characters separate from each other.

How does having 40 moves make him broken? Also, the Sentinel thing makes no sense because not every character has the same health, and not every player is going to get opened up by Sentinel. You'll never win a match against a Dante/Sentinel team if that's how you think.
I was looking at the games current roster and it just seems to be missing something crucial for a fight Tension!! The cast for this game thus far is poop.
@ Toykonightlife
"Low Health" doesn't automatically mean a broken game. Characters with "Low Health" can lock down slower characters because they are much faster and versatile. Storm in MvC2 had low health but the reason why people chose her is because she's fast and has a good rush down. Dante might have a lot of moves but some of those moves are quite useless; slow start-up, poor range, not able to combo into. Dante also has one of the lowest health in the game so I don't think he's overpowered. The game engine is set up so that the longer ur combo is, the less damage it does; therefore air combos aren't that big of a deal. X-factor is a one time use so it's meant to be powerful.

He wasn't referring to throwing out balance in the sense of having purposely better and worse characters. He's referring to balance in the sense that not every character is built from the same, identical concept. Not every character has an anti-air/projectile/throw assist setup, nor do they all have level 3 hypers, and the people with level 3 may not have certain things the ones without level 3 have.
Marvel vs Capcom has always been fun because it's kind of like the wild west, where anything goes and there are no morals. It's filled with gamebreaking tactics, but at the same time has enough variety to find other gamebreaking tactics to go up against them. I guess it's cool that they're going with that.
Personally, I always like playing as the worst characters. One of the things that disappoints me about very well balanced games (Like Blazblue CS for example) is that there's nobody who you can pick as the joke/uphill battle character.

If you tagged in Strider so carelessly in MvC2 the result would've been the same. You have to be careful with how you utilize your characters. Also, Phoenix is the core character that disproved everything you said before because she has the lowest health but is capable of dealing stupid amounts of damage on everyone.
Ryota added that the game is much more focused on the Western market than Japan, and that he wanted to add more Darkstalkers fighters and Capcom wished to bring back more people from MvC2, but Marvel preferred newer characters instead.
Argh!man im confused marvel preferred newer characters?Wait...WHAT?!
to 21...thats such a poor excuse for not bringing back old favorites like cyclops or rogue...oh and maybe marrow is much less popular but atleast she's not another bubble-gum barbie stereotype kind of character, she's psycho, mentally unstable, physically strong kind of crazy chick that differs from MOST of female marvel cast and yet ashe's all unique in her own way and do not deserves to hit MVC3 roster??? how so?
@Liberator
You need to remember than most of the people playing this game have never read a comic. Almost everyone's knowledge of Marvel is based off movies and the 90's X-men cartoon. Marvel is trying to use this as an opportunity to make some new fans by bringing them into what's going on in the comics NOW.
Marrow is not relevant, and even in the late 90's she wasn't that popular. That's also why Capcom was so against Shuma Gorath (Although I'm super happy Capcom got them to do it).

I would've liked Cyclops as well but I can see Marvel's perspective. Also, you're trying to debate the exclusion of Marrow in a game that had thousands of character options. We all have our personal favorites we'd like to see, but the answer to "why not ____" is simply that there are too many choice and they can add everyone.
Also I don't mean this to come across as rude, but you had to know Marrow was getting dropped. Her relevance in both Marvel and MvC Is practically non-existant. I'm not a hater though. The Eddy Brock Venom doesn't event exist anymore and I liked him in MvC, even if he was low tier.
Although now that I think about it, the Flash Thompson Venom would be pretty badass.
IDK a part of me says why can't they all have the same health? You can't have a race with some people running, some riding a bike and some a car. But maybe you applaud the runners more who make it all the way :)
Yea but this doesn't make sense if marvel wanted to get more attention and whats hot right now why would they want to return a lame azz robot that,a dead goddess and a tentacle rape monster?What i remember one doesn't even have that much of a decent fanbase the other is dead and the last haven't done anything groundbreaking since the early and mid 90s so you are telling me they are hot s*** now in the marvel universe?
...oh i see...so popularity in this case would be the only excuse for not including her (marrow if you haven't figured yet whom i'm talking about...)...well...thats crap...where's originality nowadays? everyone just keep on relying on popularity factor...boooring :| 21st century is indeed booring!...i want my time machine!...
@Shareware
Shuma-Gorath RETURN to prominence? He was never prominent in the first place.
I would like Marvel to finally do something with him though. I've only ever seen two comics with him. One was his first appearance where he showed up for like 1 page, and the other was just some people chanting his name...
@31
Practically nobody wants Marrow in the game from a popularity or gameplay standpoint. She is almost the definition of a wasted slot, but if you still want to complain about her omission just keep it to yourself. There is not one person who is 100% satisfied with the final cast, but most people are happy enough with how things look so far (not including more DLC characters). I am just looking forward to playing the game because of how much fun it is and because of how many options there are to explore.
I really wanted Cammy in but I'm not complaining about it all day. Everyone who's still mad about the roster should just get over it because they're still going to buy the game.
to Sol_Badguy speak to yourself...there're many people in the world with different tastes than yours and if you haven't met yet person who'd appreciate Marrow they way she's that doesn't necessary means there's no such person...as for my own experience i've met enough people who likes her and appreciates her the way she's and they hate just as well as me the fact she isn't going to be in MVC3...
Niitsuma basically said; Every character who lost something, gained something and every other character that can't do one or more things can do something else.
Most people who play fighting games are very one dimensional and are not flexible enough to adjust as they play different characters. They think balance is "I have the exact same health as you, and can combo exactly the same as you!" But thats not fun because the only thing seperating the character is the skin. The imbalanced is not to break the game but make it fun. If each character was thesame it would'nt be fun.
At the same time im sure they took all the percautions to make sure each character is not overley dominating the entire cast like MvC2. So just because we only see people using Sentinel and Dante and such cheaply does'nt mean the rest of the cast can't hang. IT's a point I see people miss time and time again.
@25 BLASPHEMY! You actually like that Black Ops look on Venom?
@38
I think you missed the part where I said "practically nobody" in my other post. I bet there are some people who are upset that Amingo isn't in the game, but most people don't give a damn about him. The point is that this game is not MvC2 Mk.2., it's MvC3. It's a new game, and many of us want to play it because it's a good fighting game. We're not going to doubt our purchase of it just because some of our previous favorites didn't make it in.
You want supreme balance, then play Candyland or Rock Paper Scissors. It has no plays in the world of MvC
@ 24
And they succeeded. I haven't actually been a real Marvel fan till about a year ago when this game was announced. As the new characters came out, i started picking up some comics such as X-force and Utopia and also have been looking up a lot of Marvel characters whom I haven't heard of before.
They sure put a lot of blame on Marvel as if they're using them as a scapegoat. They say they wanted to bring some of the old characters back, but for some reason I'm actually relieved
rather than disappointed. I think it has something to do with Capcom's favorite Shuma and also Tron Bonne making the roster and the lack of Megaman the people choice.
Lol its like you can see the difference between the ones that have been following the game closely to the ones that haven't.
MVC3 is not unbalanced this is including jean when i say this although i find it funny that jean is even being brought up jean is pretty much the Seth of mvc3. And seth pretty much had the same match up problem in vanilla angst sagat.(in fact its almost the exact same match considering phoenix can teleport)Any way seth killian and several others who helped produce the game say that they have been spending months at a time just doing nothing else but balancing As for the cast of charcters well we will see i mean they even left room for dlc and its obvious they are working on some so will see what the final cast is like
PS did any one eles but me recognize that capcom got a way with showing a cat girl blowing.....
...why every new game that being recently released should always have like the same or lesser amount of characters? and why it should be always NEW to satisfy everyone? i wonder what's an excuse for not just making it so ALL characters from previous MVC return PLUS extra new ones? i understand there's hell of a roster, but that way you could make like EVERYONE HAPPY, including ME...
Even that people would still want more, there will always be someone you're missing, somebody wanted all versions of MM
Simple...
Because to satisfy ALL fans you need EVERY char. from EVERY Marvel series and EVERY Capcom char. from EVERY that is worth anything.
Why would anyone complain with that?
Graphics
Lack of good story
Complaints about gameplay
Characters not representing themselves in the correct way.
Not releasing the game fast enough.
and the BIGGEST COMPLAINT
Most people would just use the Broken ones anyway! See MvC2
thats how you see it...i look at it from another angle...but thats just endless dibates, lets say lets just keep it to ourself...lets say i'm quite naive about fighting game being close to perfect and even more 'm positive one day we've got like fighting game with about 250+ characters, 100+ stages and everything will be balanced and NOT broken...
@Mr_Clack:
I totally agree with you. And it's ridiculous. MvC3 was intended to be a much different game from MvC2. MvC3 is supposed to be all about more variety & less recycling (& I'm referring to characters, of course), unlike MvC2, which is all about more recycling & less variety with characters, in which about 43 characters were directly recycled from X-Men: Children of the Atom to MvC1, while adding 13 more characters into the mix.
@59
I think you need to look into playing MUGEN. It sounds like something you'd appreciate, while the rest of us would appreciate playing a competitive game with a familiar, yet fresh take on the Vs. series.
no...mugen comparison is irrelevant...i played it and its broken...seems like your eyes only catched what they wanted to catch...read the lines once again 250+ characters, 100+ stages and everything will be balanced and NOT broken...and i honestly don't understand what your argument has to do with what i've said...since i mentined IF EVERYTHING would be balanced and NOT BROKEN i don't see how it wouldn't mean FRESH (in your understanding as well...)
@63
Wake up from your little fantasy world. There will never be a perfectly balanced fighter with 100+ characters and stages. No ifs, ands, or buts. Companies have to be fiscally responsible, so including everybody from MvC2 along with the new cast is completely out of the question and, quite frankly, very stupid. I don't know how long you've been playing fighting games, and I don't care, but you need to keep this child-like wishful thinking to yourself because it simply doesn't add any meaningful discussion to thins kind of topic. Take it to GameFAQs. It's already bad enough how some people don't even understand the context in which Niitsuma talked about the balance of this game, yet proceed to post their opinions on the matter.
...gosh guys why are you so goddamn mean huh? everyone have their dreams (childish ornot...) and they want it to come true sometimes...okay if you think i should stop talking about it i'll do, not a big deal, but i was just expecting some of you being more friendly you know...
@68
It's one thing to dream of a huge cast in a fighting game, but it's another to expect it to happen. Your posts were more along the lines of blaming Capcom for not complying to your wishes, which is why this discussion started in the first place. People are always willing to listen to valid complaints, but your posts were anything BUT that.
Honestly, I'd rather see some discussion about Niitsuma mentioning multiple licenses used in a single Vs. game, but almost nobody even clicked on the link to read the interview.
