GetYourTournament has posted a blog discussing the 2011 Marvel vs. Capcom 3 player of the year. GYT has named Justin Wong the North American Marvel vs. Capcom 3 player of the year from winning many different tournaments and he didn't win he'd have placed in top 8 of almost every other one he participated in.Among the major championships he won: Devastation, Winter Brawl 5, Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament 7, NorCal Regionals 9, the Goodbye Phoenix, Hello Phoenix Shoryuken.com Invitational, and Southern California Regionals.
By the way, among his finishes in the Top 5: Evolution 2011, Final Round XIV, Seasons Beatings Velocity, Canada Cup and CEO 2011.
He was a threat every tournament he went to. And he did it more often.
When he won, there was no doubt about it. When he lost, it came down to the near end a lot of times. There was no safe lead against Justin; he proved that against many opponents, including Filipino Champ.

I thought of combofiend for a second, but he hasn't been making as much appearances at tournaments as much as Justin has. Good for him.
Combofiend should of won this hands down. In vanilla he never lost to a Dark Phoenix where as Justin Wong is free to Dark Phoenix. In Ultimate ComboFiend has pretty much won every event he's attended. Even all the best players agree he's the best, evo champ has nightmares of Combofiend. Maybe if Combofiend tier whored in vanilla like every one else he would of won more majors and got this award.

I agree since Wong was the first to discover many popular tactics in both game. Wolverine, Akuma & his assist & Frank's shopping cart.
Who was the player that single handly brought up a character that everyone in the beginning thought was a$$ and made him into one of the top 5 characters? Who had the most ridiculous godlike comebacks that the fighting game community witness over and over again? Who also placed top 8 in every tournament he went to? Who had someone imposter him on Xbox live lol

He deserve this award more than Justin Did. Justin is great but really I mean he won most of those tourneys with Wolverine/Fill in the blank/Akuma and we all know stupid they are in Vanilla
MVC3 Fighting Gaming Player of the Year goes to COMBOFIEND nuff said.
Justin Wong discovered the originally anto Sentinel strategy with Wolverine and discovered the Wolverine/Akuma team which half the top players in the game ended up using. That mixed with his placings at every major puts him beyond his competition for the award.
Why is there so much hate for Justin Wong? Years ago, everyone hated him because most people thought he was cocky. But now we all know that' he's truly humble.
Justin Wong and Combofiend are probably the two best MvC players in the world, but Justin has consistenly done better in tourneys than Combofiend.
And to those that say Justin uses stronger characters, he won SCR with Iron Fist and stuck to him even though everyone said he should switch. Not only that but Combofiend uses characters like Hawkeye, Taskmaster, She-Hulk, and Spencer. They are all pretty damn top tier.
Justin Wong is the POTY.
This so called award is meaningless if best MVC3 player isn't Combofiend. No one should have to explain why. The first thing that comes to mind when you hear combofiend is MVC3 or Spencer. No one can make comebacks like he does even when there's almost no hope for a comeback, which earned him the title of "comeback-fiend". Everyone shouts "bionic arm" when he pulls that super in a match. In all those CC FT5 sets, not only did he always come up on top, but he basically bullied his opponents with a smile on his face, including Noel Brown, and Marn, 2 players that Justin can't beat.

@15 which game? Cuz we're talking about MVC3 not UMVC3. I saw Justin lose to Marn so many times, just look up Justin vs Marn MVC3 on youtube and see for yourself. As for Noel Brown, we're talking about MVC3 NOW, at the end of MVC3's lifecycle, Noel Brown was a better player than Justin. No one can deny that.
No other top level player can play as many characters AT a top level as Justin Wong can. He totally deserves this, ESPECIALLY because of his Iron Fist victory at Socal regionals.

Justin deserves it way more than Combofiend for much more impressive performance. Just look at that resume!
Viscant won Revelation, dominate WNF tournament and of course won evo very convincingely he was for me in MVC3 the best player.Not the most fun to watch but in terms of game play strategy,Build to win team , he was definetly the best player.
But now in Umvc3 i think that the best is somewhere between Wong,pr Rog and combofiend.
Justin Combo and Viscant all have good grounds to say thay are the best. Also don't say combofiend's team is not top tier in vanilla he was completely unstopable in tournament play which by defination is top tier. I say Viscant takes because he won evo like or not that is the superbowl of tournaments combo and justin were both there but Viscant won it.
You can't blame Justin for using Wolvie and akuma, he has stated that those two + Iron fist + Storm are his favorite characters. A guy isn't allow to use his favorite if they became top tier?

first off JUSTIN MADE WOLVERINE/AKUMA and everybody else mimicked his style. who else has top tier characters strait biting your style. watch, in a couple months you're gonna hear something like "Iron Fist is way too good." and he is going to lose credibility. People say that Noel Brown is the most hated player, but I think people hate on Justin Wong more. I love to see Combofiend play, he's my favorite character, but Justin Wong has won more tourneys. 2011 watch out for the Chronicles of the Ultimate Combofiend though. I'm calling it right now, he will dominate 2012. the only one who can stop him is Justin.
And another note: Viscant was a fraud Phoenix player who was better than all the other fraud Phoenix players. Lets see him play her now.
Stay free event scrubs, Justin had the most Evo seed points. Won the most tournaments, put wolvie / akuma on the map and just took socal regionals a few weeks ago with iron fist. You're all a bunch of D riders for combofiend its so annoying. Yeah he's great, he's a freaking monster but this is about consistency and gyt has been tracking stats while you all get hype and mindlessly scream bionic arm. I don't remember combofiend winning any major besides Final round which was very early in the games life cycle.
@29 combofiends team is top tier it the insane mix ups and comeback factors while also being able to do lots of damage that is the defintion of top tier
Seems like people are just salty if they think Wong doesn't deserve to be called MVC player of the year. He could arguably be the fighting game player of the year with all he does across the board. He was a huge part for establishing the metagame of MVC3 when the game first came out.
The difference between Justin Wong and other players is when you guys cried about Sentinel or Dark Phoenix, you begged Capcom to make something happen. Justin adapted and made something happen.
