i think they have a big one in Mexico this week. with Tokido, Momochi, Kazunoko.
Even though Yun's nerfed and Ryu got his cr mk back, will Daigo go back to Yun against D'isms? I would think so just because Yun is still a decent character.
@7 In Mexico???? where did you read that??? someone have any information about that????????
@12
Look at Daigo's old Ryu vs Sim matches from Super and Vanilla, he was never bad at the Ryu Sim matchup to begin with so even if Yun was better he'd still probably use Ryu
@ #17
Daigo was absolutely amazing at the Ryu/Dhalsim matchup - but it doesn't change the fact that it has been stupidly unfair for Ryu in the past versions (not sure about now).
So he may bite back with a character that reverses the hardship - unless a money match states that he must use Ryu.
"Daigo was absolutely amazing at the Ryu/Dhalsim matchup - but it doesn't change the fact that it has been stupidly unfair for Ryu in the past versions (not sure about now). "
Arturo Sanchez says the match up is 5-5 now. LOL I highly doubt that.
Ryu vs Sim was 6-4 in Super and 7-3 in AE. 2012 Ryu got some minor buffs and he's better than AE Ryu but worse than Super Ryu. Sim got buffed so this can't be a 5-5 match up.
The best version of Dhalsim was arguably in super, where his normals got buffed from vanilla. In AE, he lost a lot of damage on both his normals and special moves.
I would say that Dhalsim vs Ryu was somewhere between 7-3 and 6-4 in Super and 6-4 in AE. I admit that I don't play much Ryu, so I can't be certain how Ryu's changes between these versions changed the matchup.
The reason why Arturo thinks the matchup between Ryu and Dhalsim is more even now, I would think is because of the following: In all versions throughout the sf4 series, Dhalsim has been able to trade favorably with Ryu's fireballs using standing fierce punch. In v2012 however, this trade is even (Ryu had dmg on fireballs buffed, and sim's dmg on fierce was nerfed from super tp AE).
Also, Ryu got some other buffs as well, and Dhalsim didn't get any damage on his normals back, and isn't buffed that much from AE to v2012.
Lol. Arturo thought the matchup was 5-5 in Super. It's only because he lost to Daigo in the money match in super. It couldn't be his lack of defense with sim... could it?
Sim wasn't ryu's worse matchup in Super though - Fei Long was. That match was also considered 5-5 in the USA.
The main reason Ryu is so strong now is Fei getting nerfed and Adon having a normal wakeup time. Ryu doesn't have any really big advantages in any matchup this time, but his really bad matchups got better. He still loses to Sim, but Yun can beat Sim - so can Cammy (who Daigo uses really well now).
IMO the Sim-Ryu matchup is heavily in Sim's favor. Daigo is just gdlk with Ryu that he makes it look 6-4, but if you look back to, for example FChamp vs Alex Valle at Crossroads near the start of the year Champ came back from losers 3-0, and then went 3-1 in the second set. Valle's Ryu literally looked helpless against Champ's Sim, and during Daigo's Yun/Akuma expedition he was widely considered THE best Ryu.
It could be 6-4 in AE2012, but against a good Sim I would't put money on ANY Ryu aside from Daigo.
@36 who else had a better Ryu in AE? The only prominent player that struck to Ryu in AE was Air, and you will have a hard time arguing that he has a better Ryu than Valle.
When is the next major tourney?
