@6 yeah, but that's exactly it. they are so pointless to even be worth be included in the game. they only add more hassle to start the actual fight, make the game ridicilously colorful with purple auras all over the place and are the first step for the "pay to win"-concept from ca$hcom.
I like how the people bitching about gems don't realize that they'd suck with or without them.
The gems are here to stay. You have 3 choices:
1) Deal with it and learn to use them.
2) Deal with it and don't equip any.
3) Deal with it.
The game always looked fun...without the gems.
Anyway, quoting some people from SRK:
"I'm willing to bet right now that with gems matches will take a quarter of the time that these matches took."
"Yepp...Gems are essentially specific activated x-factor.
Specific activated x-factor that you can buy post release as DLC's too. "
#14 or not buy the game and not support this cash cow idea of capcom.
That crossover counter Ken and Ryu did was too sick. Love the music.
I'm still skeptical about this Gem system.
Yes
1. deal with it.
2. play without it.
3. spend $50 on a game and enjoy what it offers.
4. Work with the Gems you get with the game you payed $50 for
5. Pay more money for Gems that Ono basically said that is part of the game.
6. Pay more money for the Gems that will keep you competitive if if course Gems are allowed in tournament scene.
6. pay the full total amount - whichever it comes out to for all the gems - and enjoy it.
Speculation of course but I don't like the fact that they are going to - if I read correctly - charge you money for these Gem packs which is inherit to the game system.
I'm all for paying for extra characters which technically add more content. I don't think that paying for Gems really adds to content other than statistical enhancements.
Fightingfan69, if you enjoy challenging yourself at tournaments then you're also forced to buy usb drives to store your presets and dlc gems. Oh and small local gatherings might force you to bring your own usb hubs because xbox/ps3 doesnt have 4 usb ports anymore.
you'll need a min. of 4 usb ports for 2 sticks and 2 usb drives plugged in.
I'm not buying the game for two reasons:
1. Gems.
2. Waiting for SUPER or such versions.
Those who go ahead and say we're going to by it anyways and should just stop bitching, here's my message to you: Not all of us are impulse buyers and some of us have the self restraint to just say "NO."
Anomaly, with all due of respect, people like #5 have intel way before a lot of info about gems was released. Its all just common sense how the gems will play out.
I think people like #5 can judge them even without playing them.
You have idiots like #2 that keeps saying, "then dont use them!!," but we all know how that will end up like. Its like playing UMvC3 online and choosing not to use X-Factor when everyone will in fact use them as their advantage. Its the core game mechanic so there will be no option or filter to turn them off.
@28 sO i can't have any opinion unless I fully played the game to all it's extent?
great, I like how you watch every movie to the end to be able to give your opinion.
there is way beyond enough info about gems to deem them unworthy for me. they have so plain boring effects, it's nothing new at all. give me some alpha 3 style stuff, air block gem, specific gems for characters (ryu: ex tatsu sucks in, paul: ex deathfist wall bounces), specific move set gems (projectiles have auto-double hit) etc. that would be at least INTERESTING. but +10% defense/damage... well whatever.
@32 People like you complain that it they add nothing to the game and are useless, but then if they did add something to the game people like you would say that it's broken and needs to be patched. Judge all you want I'm not against people voicing their opinions but the game still has time before it comes out. Reading about gems and playing with gems are two different things.
I really think Capcom, Ono specifically is making a bad decision not to create an online "No Gem" mode. Forcing people to play something people may not want is never a good thing.
It shows people your out of touch with your customers and fans as if your saying "Pfft they will learn to love it." I don't know, maybe im wrong and it will turn out fine. But I never understood Ono's concept of "My Ryu is different from your Ryu." I thought EVERYONE'S Ryu was different by human nature.
/shrug
#34, NINJA , Capcom representatives said it themselves that they will not add an option to turn off the gems as its the core mechanics of the game. They also said that you may choose not to use it but that does not mean your opponent will follow.
lmao :38 seconds in to the 3 video theres a billboard or something with Bisons (dictators) face on it. looks like some sort of cheesy advertisement.
In the 3rd video, does Guile say s*** when he misses an air grab? xD
#42, lulz...well people cant complain now if the twins dont make it into the game. Creative capcom is creative.
@30
I'd like to believe this, but that was the story for MvC3, too.
#41, theres some things that I dont like visually too.
-Dont like the over exaggerated camera angles to entice "hype"
-Dont like the zooming in feature in certain moves. Sometimes I'm looking at the hair on someones arm -_-
-Dont like the multiple camera angles at 100FPS..its going to cause someone a seizure.
@36
But, if that's how the game engine works, then why can't people just play the frickin' game? For instance, a person saying that they hate KOF 13's Hyper Drive mode because it's "gimmicky" and a "comeback mechanic" or something (not saying that that's true) and that they should have a mode online where it's disabled would be...kind of stupid. Same thing here.
If you don't like the rules, then you can either go back to an earlier title like SF4 or start playing under the new rules. People aren't going to like every facet of a game's engine most likely.
i just noticed a poster of Megaman in the last video. lol its the oldschool bad cover art megaman. its kind of blurred but you can still see it well.
@47 yea those combos were beast. im surprised no one said anything. then again with gems being the main discussion as you said maybe i shouldnt be surprised.
Apparently you can choose between different moves within King's Super Art (Video #5: One Super Art at 4:00 ended with a Sharpshooter, while the match-ending SA at 4:55 ended with a Stretch Buster); wondering about the possible number of combinations, their significance from each other and which is the most damaging chain.
Still wondering why the game has both Hugo and Zangief in the game. Pardon my contradiction as far as the shotos are concerned, but I fear that the two grapplers' playstyles may become too similar to each other if not one of them being straight-out superior to the other.
This game looks great. Sick combo possibilities. Especially with the gems. Wishing for more characters or course but the game looks great. (Still havnt decided on what Tekken character I will use)
i dont know if anyone here notices but the character models look really nice. guess they listened to people's complaints about the characters looking too rainbow like !
very nice overall
@1 if i'm not mistaken wasn't it confermed that the gems were completely optional? i mean when it comes down to it it's sort of like Street Fighter Alpha 3 where they had all those power ups you can assign to certain characters and i think Soul Calibur 4 had something similar to that and it was completely optional so they'll most likely have the option before you select your character or even in the options menu they'll let you turn the gems off
Gattsu, you must not be keeping up to news with these gems other wise you would understand why people HATE the gems. We dont hate it simply because its a new system, dont be stupid.
Again for the billionth time, there is no option. NO OPTION to turn off the gems. No specialized lobbies where you can disable gems. The best thing you can do is talk to your opponent in the lobby and "agree" to each other not to use it but whether they keep their word or not..no one will ever know.
Oh and I suggest to read the whole page anything that regards to SFxT so that you're kept up to date on the issues with the gems or the game. Btw, you are now educated about the subject.
OMGAHHH SO HYPE FOR THIS GAMEEE!! xD
And I agree with #55...I reckon the Julia conversion
to the street fighter model, looks most exquisite 8-)
and king looks freaking badass as well!! love that
mean expression on his face...Awesome modeling!
Now gimme my main Sakuraa! and ill be set!~ >:)
@36
Capcom is hardly out of touch. You have to remember that they are trying to appeal to the masses too, not cater to simply the FGC, which is an incredibly small part of the potential market. Frankly, if they only listened to the FGC all the time, you would have sequels with very little innovation in gameplay systems, and mostly just new characters and moves. Things would grow stale because it's almost a rule that at first, the community dislikes a new idea being introduced. Often times, in the end their opinions change, especially when the next game after that one comes out, and now all the sudden this old game you questioned at first is the one to beat lol. It's like clockwork. I feel this game will end up being a blast upon release, and the whole gem thing will fall into place.
@45
I'm really trying to understand your purpose. You show up on every SFxT story and dog the game because you are displeased about the gems, and trying to convince people that it's a mess and to not support this "cash cow" scheme. You've mentioned you don't like much of the presentation styling in this thread, and now you are even quoting SRK posters for some odd reason...and you even picked stupid quotes to boot. Saying these gems are like a specific type of x-factor is laughably exaggerated. How much longer do you plan to play the Debbie Downer before just finding something else to focus your attention on? It's okay if you don't like what's being created, but there's plenty other games out there for you to support and banter about.
#60, You need some reading comprehension skills.
Seth said you can make a lobby and have people not pick gems but there will be no option to turn them off ...much like how it is in UMvC3 X-Factor. As long as your buddies will agree not to pick it then your lobby will be gem free. But if they really wanted to they can still pick it. Please find that article and read it again.
#61, If you read some SRK articles, as well as here, you can find me supporting real games. At the same time I think I have the same privilege to voice my opinion on games that disgust me.
Gattsu, here you go. You can read this as much as you want until its burned into your brain:
"You can play Street Fighter X Tekken without gems equipped. You simply choose characters and do not select any gems.
This can be done offline of course. For online, you could set up a lobby where you ask players not to select gems. For general matches, however, there is no online filter to disable people from choosing gems, because play including gems was Ono-san’s concept around which the game was built."
Ok lets break it down. " For online, you could set up a lobby where you ask players not to select gems. " Key word there is ASK.
" however, there is no online filter to disable people from choosing gems" Keyword here is no online filter to disable
"because play including gems was Ono-san’s concept around which the game was built" In other words, its the core mechanic of the game and you cannot turn it off. Example UMvC3 X-Factor.

Thank you sir, next time read and understand the articles thoroughly to avoid pointless arguments.
Gotta admit. Poison hitting Chun Li in the ass with that whip has got to be the hottest thing in a video game ever.
That aside, game looked great then, looks great now.
@63
I never said you don't support other games. I questioned why you don't spend more time on those other games instead. And yes, you surely can voice your opinion about a game that...disgusts you, lol. But you've been basically saying the same thing on practically every SFxT article that i've read for the last two months at least if not longer. I think everyone has heard your opinion by now. Nothing major is changing about the game at this point. Sorry it didn't turn out how you were hoping. Speak with your dollars going to another product and move on.
that ryu x ken cross rush combo is beast o,o"
and their corner pressure has never been so heavy O:
seems like they're gonna be the toughest opponent for me =="
lol@cammy's entrance when you change characters! "HELLO! (:"
anyone think with a dhalsim on each players side,
the game will mostly end in a time over??? haha
#68, You see me basically say the same thing over and over again because you have idiots like #60 that needs to be educated. Which btw I helpfully did at post #65. If more people paid attention to the game updates and its issues then you surely will see less of me. You dont see me repeating myself this much on the SRK.
@68- Isn't it obvious? He's a f@ggot. He knows there are people here that don't like the gems, so he's posting about them to get their attention, and possibly get their numbers and have a good night with them: dinner and a movie, followed by gay sex at a Motel 6.
He knows there are people here that flock to SRK too. He figures that quoting them will boost his f@g appeal, because it's for Stupid Retarded Kids.
I still dont like the graphics of this game, its an odd look, almost sf4 style, but not at the same time -_-
#72, yeah..I noticed that too...especially Julia that screamed out twins. I guess people can say now that the twins are in the game hahaha.
After getting beat when Steve Fox stands up...he looks a little on the sweet side lol.
Ok so at the start of this thread some guy said that gems are like x-factor and are going to ruin the game, but then later said that they are bad because they do so little and effect hardly anything so they shouldn't even be in. Did I get that right? That is pretty contradicting.
Hello everyone,
I'd like to introduce you to #71 "Murderous". Merderous is infatuated with Homosexuality.
He seems to think, and comment exclusively about Men pleasuring eachother.
Funny right? WRONG!
It's sad:(
Sad because he's obviously a "Self Loather"!
You see, he bashes Gays because he can't stand what he sees when he looks in the mirror.
Listen Murderous, the FG community accepts all kinds. Come out of that dark closet!
Come out Murderous! Come out!
Loooool:P
Nice Pressure in some of those videos but the Pressure in the final version won't be that intense though... with the Cross Cancel that breaks the combo during a block string that costs 1 meter and Also the fact that you can launch a blocked Low Attack.... UNLESS they remove those system mechanics, keeping the pressure is gonna be way harder than in these videos.
1) Damn HUGO looks BEAST!
He was practically soloing that Kazuya/Nina team. Would've taken the game too if player 1 properly confirmed his Julia combo before bringing him in for the follow-up.
2) Ken-Ryu synergy
So after shoryu, hit or miss I can tag in with another shoryu? That'll make people really think about punishing missed uppercuts. Did I really miss? Or am I just baiting? I feel it's kinda like those delayed DHCs in Marvel3 that people are using to bait punishes on the first super.
Gems or not, If Dud gets thrown in the mix, Steve/Dudley will be my team!
Absolute A+ work on Nina's transition..... everything so far looks great.. I am super excited... Cant wait to cross paths with u guys online....
@88 - So true. If this kind of thing were enough to stop sales, Vanilla MVC3 would've bombed because of X-Factor and the simpler controls. I doubt Capcom is crying themselves to sleep over these idle threats.
At any rate, I'm still hype for this. Can't wait to run Lili/Cammy.
Pardon my ignorance... but is this an arcade location test? are they even making an arcade version of this game? or is it PS3/XBOX360 loc tes?
#90, most likely console location test.
I dont think they will sell gems on the arcades. Correction, I dont think gems will sell well at the arcades.
They are though porting this for PC to grab more moneys from people off Gems. Little does capcom know that itll most likely just get pirated. Not to mention custom created gems for the PC.
@#91 AnaboliChris.
I see..thanks for the info. bro. much appreciated.
everyone likes different things, that's all good. I've been waiting for vids like these to really showcase the potential this great looking game has.
guys listen, capcom is in the business to make money, they have to find a balance between what their creative vision is and what the consumer is after. The big difference today is our ability to communicate with the developers. Giving our thoughts will help us get what we spend our hard earned cash on. However, for them to take into consideration our thoughts its up to us to handle it constructively.
give your thoughts, concerns etc. But do it In in way that is not offensive, nobody wants another sfex for gods sake, so keep it clear and productive and I'm sure they will make the best adjustments based on intelligent and concise feed back.
I for one hope the gems are a novelty more than core mechanics, if the gems turn out to be fun I'm all for it. And remember the term soft ban because those of us looking to compete on a level playing field will always honor the fighters code lol. Cheers....
To everyone debating about the gems. I understand where both sides are coming from. The only thing that upsets me about it is that capcom says there is DLC gems for a game that is still in the making. I know capcom is money hungry but come on wait for the game to be released before saying your charging more for DLC already.
Also from all the buzz the gems is creating why couldnt capcom make it a special mode like the whole heros and heralds with UMvC3. Im sure that would get everyone to be happy.
OT- From the videos here, the game looks amazing. Steve looks like a beast. Cant wait to start playing some matches with him and Ibuki.
without gems it looks like so much fun ._.
