I gotta say, this series is very inspiring, whether you love it or not.
It may seem like I'm squabbling, but honestly, they need to pay closer attention to sound capture to match the game. The sound doesn't match at all, and it takes you out of the authenticity. Get a few solid players to actually do combos, not just focus attack into an ultra and then say "impressive!" The filming and story is kinda fun, but the editing now needs to follow suit. This is for a niche audience so you have to play to the specifics.
Why does Sagat randomly come out to say "Tiger..." when it's just Balrog vs Akuma in training mode?
That's what I'm talking about General_Awesomo. It turns the viewer (who is assumed to be a SF fan already) when it seems like the editor/director isn't a player himself. Kind of like how videogame movie makers never seem to quite capture the feel of the game. They need more attention to detail, especially for obvious stuff (like Balrog's KO quote happening when he does the ultra).
I am so sorry to write this, but i just couldnt help it anymore after watching the 3rd episode. As this being a public forum, i think i am entitled to give my opinion about the series here.
It scares me that, people may find this story "Inspiring",or with a strong sense of positive motivation. Really creeps me out. As everyone else just as me, entitled to their opinion, i still find this hard to believe.
We have the story of a father, who loses his job. He starts to play SF, thats cool, no biggie there. The story evolves ot the point where., becoming a Professional SF player is becoming a feasible option, if not for a leaving, at least for a serious money income.. and a way to get respect out of that spoiled brat kid. If gamers have the general impression of being inmature, i think this will not only confirm that idea, but to trigger more people out there, with no clear understanding of life, work, family, and money.. to strive for "profesional SF player". Now please, dont get me wrong.. i am a supporter of the fighting scene, i cheer and admire professional fighters. But the way this life example is addressed, i really should have been taken under more consideration. People with a solid work and their feet on the ground, wouldnt consider play sf over manning up and look for a real job! that is my real opinion. So again, please dont bother replying to me with examples of how many people is getting a name and money out of the game community. I am talking about real life examples. If videogames is your passion, ok, go for it, right? denying that chance would be like denying a person who loves Basketball, or Football, or Sining, or dancing. I agree, dont dont take on me by that point. Look instead on the attitude this family guy is taking, but playing SF, to gain his son respect and money, instead of freaking getting up, and get a "a real" job. People with common sense should get my point. And saying this is inspiraitonl..oh God.. please. Please, the story is so corny and predictable, that SF players immediately spot any errors, the minimum. They should have known that they would be subject to the most critic audicence ever, therefore, being ready and being aware of the minimum detail should always be present... but we face many things that kind of dispaoint.. like th esimple combos, not being able to watch entire fights.. etc. Just a guy said, have good people on the game play matches... have people narrate them (this might happen when the main character gets to evo, im sure), etc. So much room for improvement, that a SF fan in the staff would already noticed.
Thank you.
Lol, what A tool. Follow your dreams bro, don't let lifes problems weigh down on you and slow you down. That's why you could never beat daigo
Not here to tell people how to watch something but it should be taken into account who this series' audience is. Some of you guys are looking at this like a "by the community, for the community" type thing. In actuality it's more of a "by gamers, for the word" deal not to say your points aren't valid just try to keep in mind the larger audience. First post here not sure if that's a good thing or not.
man... not trying to hate but so far this series sucks. The gamestation needs to step it up. They need to have actually match or something, because the fighting scenes make no sense. Also, the acting during button smashing sucks. I hope it gets better.
@Dart2623 Don't completely agree with you.Fighting games as a job/career is looked down upon in all three episodes. The guy himself doesn't even think its a good idea until he has exhausted himself looking for work. Why is it inspirational? Simply he has the courage try something he's good at and loves. Players like Daigo, Mago, Sako, Tokido, Alex Valle etc would never have existed if they were too scared to take their talents further.
One thing i'm not feeling is the actually battles, you see snippets of a match and that removes the hype imo.
I'm happy that at least, most of us agree on the fight scenes. They really can improve those, with real matches. I know that a match may take too much out of the episode, which lasts 10 mins aprox. But really, give us more action during fihts.. at least an scene of 10 or 15 secs, not just glances of what seemed to be a combo. Also, the smashing, i guess could improve, though thats hard, as actors may not know the game, thats understandable.
Again, we might be too critic here, but that was the risk they should have considered (i hope they did) when making a series based on a game with such big scope and audience.
I also apreciate the civilized replies i got, im happy this site is visited by people with common sense and education in the opinions.
i think the match snippets are ok. Like someone previously posted. it's not by the FGC for the FGC... it's more like By Gamers for everyone.
right?
If we had a match that was footsie heavy... who (other than members of the FGC) would understand.
I'd at least like there to be consistency with the level of play... maybe during a training montage he goes through the basics... then levels up... i dunno, teaching the viewers in a way, to then appreciate the matches you (may) bring on.
Seeing random moves done for no reason... and then that guy winning big money. Would kinda irk me...
They're aiming to show the hype part or the scene more than core gameplay
Hey, this is Layne Pavoggi, director of The Street Fighter web series. I wanted to address the fighting in the game everyone is talking about.
The continuity, sound, and "naked" ultra finishes bug the sh*t out of me as well, but in the end it all comes down to time and money.
I have very hard deadlines and when I'm talking to unpaid editors about details, and it's midnight the night before the episode goes up and still have to go check on the next episode with the other unpaid editor, things fall through the cracks.
I truly love Street Fighter and have my whole life. I want to do the game justice, but in the end as a director when it comes down to it, story is most important.
You guys don't know how much it means to me that everyone in the fighting game community is at least is giving my series a chance, it was one of my biggest worries.
Once again guys, I wish the fighting footage was, in general, better, but hey, there's always next time.
Thanks,
-Layne
@LaynePavoggi, that's nice to hear. Really enjoying this series so far despite shortcomings in the actual fighting. Hope that'll be sorted out next time, because so far this series is really entertaining!
Very nice from the director of the show to come here and talk "directly" to us.
My very first post, did an account just to give him props.
The series is good (OK-good), and IDK why some ppl are bashing it kinda hard... But anyways, thanks Layne Pavoggi for your efforts and your sincerity, I hope the series keep on going and getting better.
Sry any misspeling here ^^
Just continue focusing on the story. Wasting time on technical details is unnecessary. Continue breathing life and personality into the cast, it's much more important that what the button presses or combos look like. Keep doing that and you'll have a satisfied viewer.
