PC gamers haven't felt a lot of love over the years from fighting game creators, but in an interview with Capcom vice president, Christian Svensson, he specially mentions that the company has made a concentrated effort to bring their Street Fighter franchise to that platform, which of course resulted in the release of vanilla Street Fighter 4 and later on, SSF4 Arcade Edition.Yeah! Release your games on PC! Just remember to release them on Windows Live with achievements :) Gotta have the achievements!
Wait, wait WAIT!!!! SF x Tekken is really coming out for PC.
Nice! That means I have to buy it for that as well.
Ah let the glorious modding begin. I have a few costumes in mind for the Tekken crew I'd like to make.
As much as I hate gems, this is really awesome because it sets a good example for other companies to start releasing their fighters on PC.
That kind of puts me in an awkward stance...I want SFxT to sell well to give a good example that fighters on PC work...but at the same time, I don't want it to set an example that DLC gems could sell well ;______;.
All I got from that was, they were not making a new Darkstalkers in 2012. Which really sucks.
lol Don't worry PC gamers, you'll get dlc gems free by downloading this hack. XD
I can see hackers making their own gems. Gems were a great idea capcom!
What I hope they do on PC is actually release patches for it BEFORE console. What this means is they can use PC as a test bed for patches without going through the lengthy and costly QA processes for Sony and Microsoft. You can also schedule open beta test weeks where the update is rolled back after the test period. Similar to the work done for Arcade Loc Tests, but only on a much wider scale. Most of the quirks from AE 2012 were found in the first 24 hrs of it's launch. You could patch them, two weeks later perform another open beta, and if all goes well push out the update to everything after about a month.
I'm happy they consider us PC users, I feel obligated now to buy SFXT to contribute to the sales so they know it's worth it to port games to PC, enjoying the game is another matter. I'll just have to take one for the team, #5 I suggest you do the same.
"THAT'S ONE SMALL DIP IN MY WALLET, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR PC GAMING"
Now if they could introduce fan-made costumes that shared profits àla Valve...
@12
I'm waiting for more info about the VERY possible release of Skullgirls on Steam.
If Skullgirls comes out on Steam, SFxT is gonna be left in the dust.
If SFxT is discounted to 20-30 bucks down the road on PC and the scene isn't so bad, I'll consider getting it on PC.
i'll buy it. ever since i bought AE i've wanted more fighting games on PC.
shame that we can't play umvc kof13 or sf3o
@16 You can play KOF13 the Arcade version at least. It doesn't have the new characters or balance tweaks that the console version has but you can play it. Also you USED to be able to play SF3 with GGPO on the PC but since SF3O uses GGPO on consoles the GGPO creator removed support for it on PC since there is no official way to purchase SF3 on the PC atm :/
That's great to hear, since I prefer playing on my PC rather than my PS3. It's great being able to alt-tab and have all the resources of the internet at my disposal while in training mode and things like that.
Marvel on PC would certainly be appreciated, since they have instances of other games using their Framework MT engine that have been released on PC, such as Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet 2.
I appreciate that they're working with a platform nobody else really supports though. Blazblue Calamity Trigger came out for PC, but Continuum Shift was already out in Japanese arcades by that stage. Skullgirls will probably be on PC, but I can't really think of any other games. So Capcom are definitely ahead of the game on their PC support.
On the other hand, PC players never saw Super Street Fighter IV, got AE about 2-3 weeks after everyone else and are still waiting on a 2012 patch.
So there's still room for improvement, Capcom!
Svensson ..AKA..

Right.
Its only a matter of time before more people understand and learn that...
1080p and beyond, graphically limited only by your technology(which is upgradeable), less lag online, free unlimited network play, no zone/country restrictions, easier streaming, all sorts of choice custom mods that kick ass, lightning load times, your PC a button away, and thats all of off the top of my head....
Will happily buy SFxT on PC day ONE.
People are learning.
PC FTW.
@#2 Steam has an achievement system and isn't universally hated for its clunky interface, slow as hell messaging system and bad marketplace (no real sales or decent catalog). Just look at the sale Steampowered.com is throwing right now, it's nuts. They're even giving away games for free for completing certain achievements, that's not something you'll see Microsoft doing with Windows Live.
They still have quite a ways to go. First of all, the 2012 patch should have landed on PC first. Reason being that they don't have to go through any certification checks. Most American companies like Bioware and Bethesda release patches on PC first even if the game exists on all platforms.
Their effort is commendable, but we still got SSFIV late and we might not have gotten it at all. They wanted to release a locked down version that did not sit well with gamers. Add to the fact that the game did not see a retail release. Ono did not want to release it in the first place due to Arcade ops pirating the game, which is a VERY small portion of people.
Marvel, one of the biggest franchises Capcom has right now, never made it to PC which is a damn shame b/c to me, it is the most fun fighting game out there right now. Overall Capcom still needs improvement but if they are still willing to release new titles such as SFxT then I'll still buy as a customer. Other than that, they need to work on how they are going to balance games, b/c re-releasing is not a long-term viable option.
@20
Well if enough of us do it, it'll send the message that people don't want any of their DLC.
I remember reading an article here that explained we got disc releases of recent titles/patches specifically because the Japanese tended to not buy any DLC.
I've been playing PC version now since summer and well it's alot better. I tried the new 2012AE version on the PS3 and I got so mad the slow loading times.
I do hope more people will join the PC community and I hope they release upcooming SFxT there as well.
Love it. I would LOVE UMVC3 on PC. I'll pay 100$ for that game. I have an Alienware laptop and it runs AE just fine. I love being able to bring a laptop to a sessions at a friends house and have another setup for people to play. I'm trying to figure out what's the best solution for a portable joystick that I could carry in my bookbag and play during lunch or slow days at work. Right now I use keyboard but that's ass.. especially with keyboard ghosting. If I had MVC I could use pad but can't play SF on pad. Definitely will be getting SFxTekken for PC.
The good will they got from me for releasing AE on PC is quickly diminishing as days go by waiting for the 2012 patch. In the world of PC games, the best anti-piracy deterent is to make sure players must have the latest version of their game. Look, I'm no saint, and I've had my share of "evaluation" copies for games. Capcom did a really good job of making me cross the line to "paying customer" but being treated as a second rate customer is putting a sour taste in my mouth. It's the same cycle all over again... developers don't support PC because they say the sales aren't there but customers don't want to buy the game if they don't have the support.
First of all, SFxT's reputation is already badly bruised (oh hai gems), so using that as a metric isn't a very good idea. I was all kinds of hyped for that game, but I no longer have plans to buy it. I'll see what it's like a few weeks or so after its release.
Second, we've received the games late, and the 2012 patch for the PC still isn't available, and we have no idea when it will be. We may not have it until some time next year. Ball = dropped.
Third, we didn't receive HD Remix, which I would have loved, nor are we getting SF3, which would have also been fantastic.
So their idea of a "concerted effort" is to release two games - Vanilla and it's upgrade, AE - and to treat these titles as kind of an after thought, judging by their patch releases.
Hey, I love SF4 on the PC. I have it for the PS3 and 360, and the PC is the platform to play it on, no mistake about it. That doesn't mean that I buy their PR about this being some sort of "concerted effort", though. Reality says otherwise.
@21
Not sure, I don't think so. However on the whole my issues with GFWL have been eliminated in recent history, if that is the case Capcom will have the option of SteamWorks for matchmaking going forward in the future. I highly doubt Valve has the same kind of QA requirements when indi devs can use it for free. (Note: The only alternative to matchmaking when SFIV was ported to the PC was GameSpy.)
This is great to hear. A laptop able to handle SF at 60 fps will always be a much easier set up option than an xbox/ps3 and a tv. Hopefully MvC can make it's way to PC one day too (Though I'm sure there are plenty of licensing hoops to jump through for that).
