Wow this has a dislike ratio of 88% on YouTube O_O
Not paying a dime for this. I hate it when they charge stuff for tornaments. You saw how well the feedback was for Canada Cup was. What made them think this was a good idea? SMH.
It's quite obvious now that CC and Vesper Arcade are starting to go the same route. Evidence proven when Lapchi was on CC trying to apologize for something after the fact with support by CC.
CC has just lost all respect from me and sits up there with vesper arcade as greedy people who don't even place well in tournaments but try to rep the scene like they are top players.
Mike Ross is decent but gootecks is a joke. Even Alex valle still places well and runs his business the right why, by NOT charging fans for stupid ass event footage.
Yeah, I kinda don't get this. I thought they would get popular. Get advertising. Sell merchandise. Have sponsors. Get paid?
You'd think?
I don't think it's at ppv level just yet guys. People pay for UFC because it's something they could never do. Wrestling is the same. I think I'd rather just go play instead of paying to watch.
Hopefully they can find money through other non-traditional means. Because I like CC. But it's a no go for me.
Yeah, and don't get me wrong, I love CC and all the work Gootecks and Mike Ross have done for the FGC, but listening to Gootecks' stance about the recent FGC vs eSports debate, it's pretty clear that he's more in the eSports side of things. I hope that doesn't mean pay per view streams in the future.
I really don't get what the problem here is. Comparing it to PPV makes no sense. It's "pay to own" not "pay per view." It was a quality stream (shout outs to the last Show Match ass tier stream) that was done for free. Missed it? Sorry about you bro. It's not like we had to pay to watch it live.
I just don't see what the harm in them selling the (HD) archive footage is. It's my understanding that the east coast dudes were provided with air fare, and cross country plane tickets aren't cheap. And once again, they didn't charge anything for the stream. If you had other obligations, or better things to do, suck it up. If you don't think it's worth buying, cool story, don't buy it. But are people acting like they're personally insulted by this?
People are way too entitled when it comes to digital content in any form.
Thanks #9 for having common sense. I don't see what the problem is. The stream was free, this is a HD version with additional audio tracks, interviews, additional camera angles, etc etc. They aren't MAKING you pay for this. If you don't want it, you don't have to get it.
CC have put a lot of work into trying to make the FGC better for everybody. Bar Fights was free to attend, and free to watch live. They deserve a little something back for their time and effort for setting it up and running it. If the people who set up and run events like this didn't get any return on their investment, the events would never happen in the first place and there would barely be a fighting game community to speak of.
@flungdungfar said:"CC has just lost all respect from me and sits up there with vesper arcade as greedy people who don't even place well in tournaments but try to rep the scene like they are top players."
Let me get this straight, Cross Counter are greedy people for them selling an optional HD archive with extra content that wasn't on the stream for people who want to own it¿
You do know that all the stuff they've been doing is not free¿ They produce a number of video clips with money out of their own pockets, and it's not like they're always asking for donations. Now they charge for something and Cross Counter are greedy people¿
If I hadn't watched the stream I would pay for this, and consider it a measure of support/donation for all the free stuff they give us.
Seems the 99% of the FGC are just a set of whiny individuals who like to get everything for free.
Anyway, I'll just go back to playing KoF XIII.
Just purchased it, watched it, and loved it. For those not in the know it isnt JUST the archive footage rereleased to purchasers again. It contains pre-post interviews with players who discuss their strategies. Smack talking during the events was also logged via mic'd up players and their "coaches" so it was a really cool rewatch for me who saw the live stream to hear what all these players were thinking. I can understand that there are those who'd be upset with the decision to move forward in the way that CC have chosen to do, I know that the way games skew these days many of their fans may be between the ages of 14-18 and not be in possession of a stable job with which to get money nor a credit card with which to purchase these events. But be reasonable and try to understand several things about WHY CC has chosen to do the things they do.
1. It was a free to watch live stream as well as for people attending the venue, but it wasnt 'free' for them to create. The venue cost money to book, the people on sight filming certianly werent doing it for free, the equipment that went into it filming/producing/editing it wasnt free.
2. Several players from out of state were flown in on CC/Complexity's dime and like others said cross continental tickets aint cheap.
3. No one forces you to buy it. If you really want to see it though, if it kills you that much to have missed it or if you're curious to see any of the extra content. Make a purchase of it for 10 bucks and consider it more of a donation for all the hard work CC put into it. Also dont think for a second that the money that Goo and Mike recieve wont in some way GO BACK into making MORE content for the FGC to enjoy. People loved Bar Fights. Wouldnt it be ashame if any future endavours by CC were canceled on account of them NOT being able to recoup on their investment? Invest in them and they'll invest in the FGC. Of course one day they'll stand to make more of a profit for selfgain I'm sure but right now theyre not there. The money from this isnt going to pay for Gootecks Yacht or Mikes Rolls Royce. Its all FOR the community BY the community and if you want high quality stuff to continue to come from CC or people like CC then you gotta show your SUPPORT.
We clear on this? You give a little, you get a little. And if by now you're still not convinced its a worthy investment, then simply dont buy it, no one was forcing you in the first place.
It's not just Mike Ross and Gootecks, there's also the entire crew working on the production, the players invited, the promotion, the video and whoever else who invested time and money into it.
The only reasons streams are free is because someone is working for nothing. People can only do that for so long before they quit like Gama No Abura. The community should be rewarding the most deserving streamers instead of asking for it to be free.
Wow, some of the comments here are ridiculous. Some of you guys make the FGC look like a bunch of self-entitled crybabies.
Why is it a bad thing that Gootecks/CC wants to make some money off of this? You do realize all of the costs associated with putting on an event like this right? Reserving the venue, the prize money ($500 per fight plus some bonuses), flights for the Spooky team, photographers/cameramen, and probably other miscellaneous expenses. There was $0 entry fee to enter this tourney and venue. I also heard that there were free tacos and free alcohol provided at the event (according to Alex Valle). Anyone who's older than 5 years old can see that THIS STUFF COSTS MONEY. At best, selling the archives might help them recoup some of the costs of putting on a show that you found enjoyable. In fact, I imagine that they may take a loss. It was free to watch the event so don't be ungrateful. This is THEIR event and they have a right to do whatever they please with the video footage.
No offense, but I'm not paying 10 bucks for a couple of fighting game streams. It just seems insane to me.
I understand it costs money and they can recoup that through the same avenues other tournaments do that have free archives. I get offering non-HD streams with ads, and I'll continue to watch those and buy merchandise when I can, but I'm not paying 10 bucks to watch people play Marvel.
@16 No one cares if you don't want to buy it or not. No one is sticking a gun to your head, but comparing Bar Fights to the average tourney is ridiculous. Other tourneys don't typically give out about $5000 in prize money (with free entry), or fly many players out on their own dime, or provide free food and alcohol, etc.
You really expect them to make up for all this with ads?
Somebody is doing it to some success. Ever paid to use Google? They seem to have a lot of money. Wonder how they worked all that out.
I don't think anyone cares what anyone posts. I hardly see the relevance in stating the obvious that nobody cares.
Indeed, no gun to my head, and so I'm opting out and stating as such. I appreciate what they gave away and they're asking me to pay extra for their unsound business decisions. In the same way I wouldn't pay 12 dollars for a McDonalds hamburger because the employees get free booze, I'm not paying 10 bucks for a tournament stream where competitors get the same. It's not my fault they put on a stream where they overspend and then lump the financial liabilities onto the consumers. And I get that it helps entice people to come play, but it's not like Jago, Justin Wong, etc. are missing out on other tourneys with free streams.
I'm not hating on what they did. I'm glad there are people out there like Lap, Gootecks, etc. who are trying to promote competitive gaming and figure out different revenue streams. But the pricing and product here are not in line. This is a recession and your core demographic is young people, many of whom are in college. I get asking for a couple of bucks, but 10 is a bit more than I'd be willing to spend.
LOL @ everyone here mad because the majority dont want to pay for what was originally FREE on stream. Didnt you all b*tch when Canada Cup charged for a HD stream? (which I actually paid for and glad that I did because the quality was excellent for the 2 days worth)
Watching it now, its pretty decent. Really good production values. Well done. Just my opinion though.
ridiculous, looks like they took canada's cup feedback and said "we dont care if you don't like it, we will charge you 1.95 more and you'll have to pay it!" I would pay, but not 10$, I would rather spend it on DLC or food. maybe they should think twice about having a 5K pot nxt time.
also, they could at least have one or two matches up for FREE so that we can at least see something, they're making themselves look really greedy and shady locking all the content... reminds me of capcom. oh did i mention their overpriced garbage? shirts for rich people, and just over priced cheap stuff at 100% profit.
i dont really see where they need more revenue, they rip off the FGC good enough just like most other free stream services do. from my understanding they are in business because of the fans paid them to get there.
#21 - Canada Cup's $8.95 controversy was over charging for the stream itself, and a big part of the controversy was that despite paying $8.95 the premium stream still lagged and wasn't high quality for many viewers.
Also, Cross Counter had nothing to do with the Canada Cup stream. That was Vesper Arcade handling that, I believe. This is an entirely separate product which is pay-to-own HD footage of the entire Bar Fights event, with multiple audio tracks (the players and their coaches are equipped with microphones so that you can hear all the conversation that you wouldn't hear on stream, as well as crowd noise if you want to hear it), different camera angles than were available on the original stream, and pre-game interviews with the players.
This is much more than just archive footage of the free stream that occurred when the event was taking place.
Cross Counter realize that charging for streams isn't going to work, so they're trying this instead. They're adding a LOT of extra features that you wouldn't usually get as well as overall quality and charging a small price for it. They have to make money back off of the events in order to make them worth running in the first place, and they're trying this out to see if it's effective. If it's not effective or it's not worth the price, they'll change it in the future. They're not forcing anybody to buy this stuff. They're doing what they can in an effort to improve the FGC. If this doesn't work, they'll adapt and do something better.
There is just no pleasing somebody like #21. CC tries to offer larger pots and prizes to entice players to come out and compete and people actually complain about it. The situation with Canada Cup and Bar Fights was waaaaay different. Canada Cup didn't deliver on it's end which was really the big issue.
You think they should have two matches up for free? How about the fact that they let you view the entire event for free? Not good enough for you? And you had the nerve to call somebody else greedy? The only ones making themselves look greedy here are the stream monsters who expect everyone to work for free and for everything to be free. How the hell is CC being shady? So anyone who wants you to pay to OWN their product is shady now?
And lol @ the end where you complain that *FREE* stream services are a rip off. My god, I hope you don't reproduce.
@18 Comparing CC to google is quite ridiculous. Their business model is completely different. Whether this DVD cost $10 or $5, people would still complain. The point is, they have a right to charge if you want to own their product, the same way any other company can. If you don't think that top level Marvel play is worth it, that's fine. There are others who thought the event was hype and worth rewatching for $10.
I don't get why people are hating on this. I've loved these. Being a full time student who works 30+ hours per week, I don't get much time to watch these, and I'm perfectly okay with paying $10 for HOURS of entertaining footage.
I find this perfectly acceptable. They're doing a pretty damn good job, and they still air a weekly program for free, they stream events for free, and they held a FREE ONLINE TOURNAMENT, which paid for transportation for two people AND gave the winner a $500 bonus. How are people not seeing these things?
Meh, I bought the Season's Beatings from CC and I was perfectly happy for it. I think the main reason that people are angry about this is that the archive was taken down and you had to purchase it if you were not able to watch it. Let us think that there are people outside of the United States timezone and some people might not have watched it live.
I MIGHT buy this, but maybe not during Holiday Seasons. I'd definitely buy this if they'd just let the archive viewable to the non buyers as well. I know there are ways to view the archive, but it'd be nice for CC to let them view it as well.
Im kinda on this fence about this
I understand the product. Premium content with extras of a high quality tournament sounds like it should be SOLD.
What bugs me is the approach.
I saw the interview with Gootecks on F@#$ Slasher, and to be honest... the dude did not sound like one that is gonna take the side of the community during the grass roots VS esports war.
He seems a bit shady now. Take this with a truck load of salt though as i have no idea who he is personally. With the
bitching at poongko, the slasher interview and the constant pitching of content that is so-so, it just seems like the dude has let some of the quick success get to him.
just my thoughts.
p.s. nerf wesker lol
