On top of the list for things completely Unnecessary.
Still waiting on that revamped focus attack.. -_-
Gems is for casuals, thanks for announcing it Max!
Party game is a party game.
Also I think its funny he acts like losing 1/2 bar for teching and 1 bar for auto blocking is bad. For a character that really doesnt have that many uses for EX moves or easy meter building, it would be great! Even pros get hit or thrown in matches, this would still be very valuable to them.
Leave it to Max to try and calm the community down.
@9 Pretty sure pros know how to block and tech after playing fighting games for over a decade. They'd rather keep their meter. Besides, they'll probably ban gems in tournament play anyway.
I need auto block for that crossup/lagfest that is UMVC3 online.
@11 The problem arises when a mixup could actually end up doing a lot of damage, but might be completely unsafe otherwise. Imagine overheads being stopped and punished dead in their tracks by someone who did nothing to earn it except build that meter.
#occupygems
Capcom...we not want THIS crap.
Lucky Charm Fighter
Gems banned at tournaments. End of story. Screw Capcom & their gimmicks to try and force people to buy every new Gem DLC that comes out.
@10 That's the job of a Capcom tool.
Whatever this game comes with I will use. I'm not buying a single DLC Gem pack.
I have an idea on how the gems could potentially function. They could help in balancing out bad matchups. For example, normally if a character like Ibuki gets double teamed by two grapplers (Zangief and Hugo for example), she would be obliterated. Another example is having gems to balance out a team's weaknesses. Overall, I believe gems will keep the game from being to top tier heavy.
@9
Uhh, losing meter in a game where meter is used for so many things IS bad. You already see players talk about how important meter is in games like SSF4, and this game will be no different. Hell, it's gonna be even more important in this game, as there's only 3 blocks of super meter to work with. Auto-block taking away 1 block every time it activates is huge, and throw-tech taking away 1/2 is nothing to brush aside either.
This is the sorta stuff that wouldn't affect casual players and players that don't take the game as seriously, but anyone that knows what they're doing will tell you that being smart with your super meter is important.
Using a gem that is essentially a crutch and a substitute for one of the most basic and fundamental skills in any fighting game isn't something most people will do in the long run. Especially not when those gems can be used against them, where an opponent could essentially drain all their meter away by doing just a few pokes and whatever else to purposefully activate the auto-block gem and suck away all their meter.
Banning gems to make the game competitively viable would be the equivalent of banning items in Super Smash Bros.
Now that i see this the chaos emeralds i mean gem idea,it seems interesting in that, they could patch your strenghts weaknesses, and make for a more customized and technical gameplay, kinda like CvS2 where they have 6 different grooves to choose from. However making some of them DLC exclusives really bugs me in that the person with more money will have an edge over the person with less. That and some of the character models like Ryu,Ken, most of the returning SF cast look just like SF4(i never really liked SF4 character models except for a few :P)i wish they would have created a whole new art style for the game.Still the roster looks awesome,so all is not lost if the gems end up being a gimmick.
Problem is, gems are the lazy way to "balance" the game. So if they removed gems from tournaments then you can see an unbalance game.
Ex:
Character A is too strong!! Well you can use the Defensive gem to give you more defense and you will take less damage. Balanced.
-Capcom
Tournament Organizers decides to ban gems:
OMFG, Character A does too much damage compared to the rest of the cast..no Defense gem can counter it fuuuuuuu
I saw just keep the whole game out of tournaments period. Keep it as a party game for casuals. Problem solved, all of the people who play competitively will not have to worry about gems, casual free players can enjoy the game without hearing pro players bash the game.
Seriously a lot of you guys are retarded, if gems weren't in competitive play it would end up turning into a street fighter 4 with tag assaults and easy chain combos. It would become stale and lame very quickly, and people would find the best teams and abuse tiers. Gems are definitely interesting, and I remain cautiously optimistic about them, as I am at least going to give the idea a chance.
Yep I agree with #26. even the haters will like this title. I think the gems add a layer of depth that ppl dont realize. This makes the whole ditto consept of picking the same character change completely. Now even if we pick the same teams(millions of weskers online) they will be different because we wont be able to see each others gems. Frankly Im tired of seeing tiers abused online.yun and yang r cool and all but damn.
I view the gems as sort of a heroes and heralds tack on to the whole thing. I don't hate it, but I would mind people using it during serious matches though. The only thing that really bothers me about gems is the lengths needed to go through to get all of the DLC gems and whether or not it's going to be store DLC only or not. I like getting 100% in games, but if that's going to be a barrier of entry for me... it's not worth the hassle.
My thoughts havent changed DLC gems are a big negative on this title unless they cost a tiny amount. Chances are they already all exist on the disk and we will be paying to unlock them which is still unfair.
I really want to play this title as the developers intended using gems but unless tourneys make the rule that only default gems are legal i cant see it happening
For use the gems at it's best, you must know all the cast, all the gems, know what's your style or what is the better tactic for using it... How can you says that the gems are for causuals ?
When did a game with more possibilities and tactics is more for casuals ?
And for the auto-guard gem. Yeah, it's powerful, but on the other hand, it open new style of play. Frame trap and all (instant overhead with a backward jump for example...)
And don't forget that while your opponent used a slot for lose bars, you used yours for be more powerful...
I think you are right @25
What's great about all these mechanics in the game is it will add replay value to the game, I see it as a way to get casual players more technical, since ppl will eventually start calculating gems effects. So I'll say capcom is going in the right direction BUT
what's bad with all of these things is they are giving true casuals a lot to learn in one game, there should be filters (at least one for gems online) so ppl can play it how they want, sometime after they will try gems and I believe the same can be said with tournaments, remember the bulk of negative feedback for this game only started when gems were introduced.
I think Capcom is trying to do tooo much in this game. They have sooo much going on. They should of kept it SIMPLE.
Get rid of Pandora. It's Useless. (Capcom said they might)
No one is going to use that cross assault gimmick. (Marvel vs. Capcom)
Just use the gem system like a Heroes and Heralds mode.
And is it just me that thinks that "Red Life" should be Red? If Pandora gets cut, then you wont need the 25% life blinking thing.
This game will fail, HARD. They're trying to make it so noob friendly by throwing 10,000 options in, they're not aware that casuals don't give a f*ck about tweaking stuff, just run the game and mash some buttons.
Paid DLC exclusive game mechanics in a fighting game is a joke, that's the main reason I'm not buying this crap and support Capcom's pathetic greedy scheme.
@33
Dude as long as Ryu and Ken are in there the game will sell like crazy! HADOOOOKEN!
Being a PC gamer I'll still buy the game, I'm already thankful it's coming for PC but I don't like how
Pandora Mode kills you instantly and the lack of a filter for gems during online play,
the great thing is there's always a mod for whatever our hearts desire so I'll be cool, Thank god for mods :)
@34
More like SHOOORYUKEN!
I have to try the chaos emerald system before i say something about it.It might not be that game changing gimmick. The Pandora is the center of game's story,so it would make no sense cutting it.
Inb4 no chaos emeralds,only Ken/Kazuya,Skatepark.
I like all the people pretending they are pro players on here. It is adorable
#33 You do realize the name of the game is Street Fighter X Tekken in other words Street Fighter vs Tekken. This game will sell on that name alone. You people seriously crack me up sometimes. I mean really a game called Street Fighter X Tekken selling badly and why cause you the FGC a small SMALL portion of the sales group and even that you who won't buy it who are the even smaller portion say so? Oh that is the funniest thing I have heard all day yeah they will probably lose a few hundred copies if that from you people.
#40
because street fighter was always balanced. Specially Akuma in 2
@37 drukendan Wow so pro players are the only people who go to tournaments? Going to tournaments doesn't make you a pro so what you're saying doesn't make any sense. Gems matter to anybody that goes to tournaments period especially if you're interested in the game. I love when people jump to conclusions about others on the internet when they have no idea who they are, even if they are on the eventhubs comment section.
#40 That is kinda the idea though. It makes it to where you don't know what to expect every fight will be different. I could either fight a defense based Akuma or I could fight a speed based Akuma. The amount of strategy worked for each situation is going to be nuts.
#45
exactly. All of a sudden everyone goes to tourneys, it's weird how that happens.
#46
not really weird. They do it to feel like they are better then the "casuals" it's nothing more then silly elitism and it's why I read these comments still. It provides me with a cheap laugh.
#25
If one has a stronger character, the one with the weaker char will still be weaker, because the stronger char has just as many gem spots and the same gems to choose from. So not only will it always be a plain field in theory, a character like Yun in AE or Blanka will still be the one to set the pace, and therefore have better chances of activating their gems sooner and more often, so they will get an even bigger advantage.
I feel like they do everything wrong with something that seems wrong from the start...
At first glance, gems seem rather wack for competitive play. But then if everybody has access to the same pack, it just means crazy long character selection, counterpick gems or whatever. But no there,s DLC gems! Great!
Also, now that we know that gems most likely are there to stay (as in no gemless mode), well ingame it looks completely ridiculous. Gems floating around when they activate, and then flashing characters. And there's the sound effects...
Well it's all personal opinion, and I wanna give the game a fair chance. But it's getting harder and harder. Someone said the word "party game", that's what it looks like to me right now.
ADAPT PEOPLE ADAPT!!!!!! YOU LOSE YOU TRAIN YOU GET BETTER!!!!! STOP THE ANNOYING WHINNING!!!! ALLOW CAPCOM TO DO THEIR THING!!!!!! YOU WHINE ABOUT FADC WHEN THE GAME CAME OUT! YOU WHINE ABOUT XFACTOR, YOU WHINE ABOUT PANDORA YOU WHINE ABOUT GEMS!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!!STOP BEING AND AMATEUR AND LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME BY ITS RULES!!!!!!! OH DAMN MY CAPSLOCK IS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yea i like what max said, (although his little show is pretty gay) about sfxt it was too much too fast, they have pandora, gem, cross assault, different level of meter usuage, etc. and in reality they game would have been alright if it wasnt for the gems, when they do Super sfxt i hope they compensate for the gems and what not. In reality im still very excited for the game despite with all its let downs . I just dont have it high on a pedestal anymore.
how many breakdowns of this stupid gem system do we even need? seems like lately all the info about this game has been "breakdown of gems." and i still DO NOT support the gem AND/OR pandora system. why make a simple fighting game much more complicating than it really needs to be? next thing you know they'll be announcing yet another change to it: turn based RPG SfxT. yaaaaaayyyyyy
Also this from capcomunity breaks down the gems
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCHXbD...
It looks a bit better than i thought but i still am skeptical
So nobody notice that Max said they took away part of the fun factor that was the freedom you had when you start a combo and tag you can do several attacks before a special move cancel tag and a few more hits and special. Now it's only start combo tag 1 attack cancel tag special!!!!!!
Am still hype about this game and learned how to like the gems but am not as hype as before the gems!
BTW english is not my first language!
So who is this Maximilian guy again? I see him in those MVC3 articles but I never click on them because that game is trash. He looks like a skinny version of Seth Kilian with long hair. Is he another Capcom employee?
@50
Hurr durr let's adapt and conform to what Capcom thinks is right about a fighter.
The least they could've done was make a low base price for the game like Skullgirls so that when you do get DLC, you won't be paying more than $60.
It seems like the direction they are taking is more of a casual/party game...which I have no problems with. I just won't pick up the game.
The only problem is the implications that this DLC gems crap will bring. If it's done on SF5 or other main fighters out there in the future, you bet your behind that it's SFxT to blame.
I could only imagine how may players will kick other players out online for using gems..ha.. they should put a "i will kick you out of this room if you use gems" comment..lol
@57
Without going into my usual (well thought out) rant. I completely agree with you.
I have no problem giving Gems a chance. But selling Attributes is a scary move for the FG Community.
I'd also like to add. A recent GameInformer article showed Capcom taking a TON of financial loses on marquee titles! Reporting massive losses.
Then comes Two Marvel titles in one year? And the Cash Cow Gem tactic. It reaks of desperation. I hope the community isn't being exploited to make a buck.
If they'd just put out the Correct DLC we'd all buy it and everything would be cool!
Cosmetic DLC is awesome! How about a SSF4 stage pack?! I love SF, but I've been playing the same stages for like four years now lol! I'll gladly pay for.
Ryu's dojo, SFA2 Grass stage!
Not to go off topic but man would I love some new stages for SF4 series. Agreed to all that you said yet again Aluppoj #62.
Also agree with #57, dead smack in the face for the fans. I previously said that too, glad other people can agree.
Quoting for truth, "Paying for DLC to improve characters in a fighting game is offensive."
my only worry is paying for dlc gems all gems should be available to everybody
People who don't see the power of the auto-block gem are ridiculous. Would you really not give up meter to get out of a hard to guess mix-up? I would definitely give meter to get out of Akuma or Viper's oki for free. That gem is incredibly powerful.
While SFxTK gets this Gem RPG element they removed talent points in diablo III. WTF IS WRONG WITH VIDEO GAMES TODAY!!!
im cool with the gems system..i think it will more than likely be a favorite mechanic..for casual and pro players alike..2 me its no different than anything else that comes out with some kind of system..capcom is trying to give all their fans a fighting chance..how many gave up on marvel vs capcom 3..then said umvc3 would be better than you gave up on that when you found out it was one in the same...well capcom do have ppl who read forums on the payroll..so my opinion is that they are making this game for all of you all who just cant seem to keep up with the rest of the crowd..so be happy and for of the pro players..ur a pro you can smash puny Gem users..right:) ill say this in sf4 and ssf4..and ssf4:ae..i never onced used FADC..i dont like the useless meter lost espeacialy when some one blocks it...ive done fine in ssf4 without FADC..all my characters are B's...so with the gems i probably never use those either..i have ryu's hadoken..shoryuken etc..that ive been using since 1992..im 28 now and the basic formula of punch, kick,block,counter,special..predict, excecute..has been doing me fine all these years.(my two cents)..later EHC(eventhubs community)
sup ehc? id still like to know if i can store my gems inside ryus anus??????
Beyond anything I don't like the sales pitch. "For new players". No system will make fighters friendly to new players. The idea is to beat the snot out of the opponent. The only thing that makes a player better is playing the game. If you get beat think of why then fix your mistake. Gems or any other mechanic won't make them better if they don't hit the practice room. A new fighter is not going to get a seven hit combo to activate the plus 30% power gem. The veterans will, which makes this game expert friendly.
I never thought that the gem system was going to be a bad idea until I heard of the DLC content. The gems are not even a new idea. The idea is very similar to SF Alpha 3s World Warrior mode. You unlock slots to add various abilities and power ups. It was great! It was great because everything available was on the disc. So even if there were some overpowered slots it was still even because anyone could use them.
I will admit the gems did shut some of the hype off this game in my mind but with the ability to not select any the just shuts me up completely.
If Capcom wants more of my money just make costume packs. I have bought a few in the past(Robot Zangief!). But with DLC gems most see it as what it is. A ploy to get more money.
I will wait to see the online community if they even use gems since more then not are not for the idea. But, if DLC gems become the point of the game I'll be far away from this new version of Super gem fighter.
I will reserve my judgement for after the game hits and people have already tested it out.
