salindy, if you didn't read the updates yesterday. you can not equip them. SO you CAN play without gems.
Its odd that they have a release date and release bonuses all squared away for a game that seems very much still in development. Sounds like they are still tweaking and balancing out core game play as well.
I guess Capcom doesn't give Ono much time and wants the game released as soon as possible.
Basically.....expect patches.
*aigh* I posted about this yesterday. Seriously can you guys reserve your judgement until you have tried the gem system in some way. Im not saying you have to like it but at least give it a chance. Seriously its like spoiled little kids who don't want to eat there vegetables. Heck for all I know I could try the gem system and absolutely hate it but since I love Street Fighter and Tekken and have always dream of a cross over I am going to give this game and its system a try.
I think the Japanese artwork is pretty dope in fact.
44 pages? hmmmm... If each page is one character...Let's just hope this is not the case because i really want more than 44 characters in this game

Good comparison. But I'd compare them to spoiled kids who bitch and moan when they don't get enough presents for christmas. Seriously you guys aren't getting this game because of gems? Even though they're giving you all the modes you asked for? 2v2 online, Scramble mode, ONLINE TRAINING, character customize? Remember those?
#23 Its true man, Oh I know your example is good but I'm gonna add to it. Its like they got everything they wanted but because they clothes for christmas to so its now a terrible christmas all because they got clothes to. No clothes in this just toy and video games christmas no sir.
#23 Lets not also forget that there bringing back fan favorite characters like Hugo, Rolento and of course the essentials in the game not only that they added Poison who people have been begging Ono for. Not to mention they said more characters who haven't been in a game for sometime.

#26 You know what the worst part is? That we who are excited about the game and the new system are labeled as Sheep and Suckers all because we are enthused about this game.
If anything the sheep are those who are following the old system and not embracing the new customization opportunity.
I think this just might pan out to be pretty good, I mean, I HAVE A SAY in how MY SPECIFIC character plays.

Plus the option is THERE to not do it if you dont want to, so whats the problem?

Should add, I LOVE how the pre-order gems are miles superior to the in-game gems. I also love how there's no option to turn gems off despite all the negative feedback the game has gotten so far because of them. Least they could is make the gems give you interesting powerups. Who cares about slight damage/speed boosts or scrubby **** like auto-throw tech?

I mean if you can post a source saying exactly what these pre order gems do and how they are vastly superior to the in game ones then you got yourself an argument but I'm afraid your not making a whole lot of sense here.

News Flash guys. It's not the Inculsion of Gems that's driving the community into a frenzy! It's the delivery method!
If paying for attributes and core game mechanics is the "Change" you speak of, then I'd have to agree with you. I'm against change!
If by "change" you mean playing with a fun new in game customization feature. I'm all for change.
You see things in Black and White. If people have an opinion that differs from your they are labeled as "spoiled children", nice mentality. IMO your just as bad as the haters. Just in the opposite direction.

Gems themselves may be epic! I'm willing to try them. But paying for Speed, Strength, Health attributes is a disaster waiting to happen. It's a baby step that opens a door that you don't want opened!
Keep your head in the sand and believe we're all "afraid of change". That way you won't have to think too hard.
Just wait.... In a few years you'll be paying for custom Hadokens, Bullits for you COD guns, special shoes for your NBA player!

Since you love to use "Christmas Present" analogies so much, I have one of my own for you.
Let's say you go to the Movies. You pay for your ticket. The ticket means you get to watch the movie.
Popcorn is optional. You pay for it if you want to eat it. It does NOT affect the movie!!! (Popcorn is the equivalent to COSMETIC DLC!)
Then the usher comes in and tells you that you have to pay extra money to watch the previews!!! Your like "wtf?" previews!?! Those we're always free before!
But in AngrySteve's world that's ok. He says
"Ok, I'll pay for the previews. I may as well try it for a while and decide if I like being cheated."
Maybe if we all pay to see the previews it'll become standard practice at the theater? Next year they can charge us to rent the seats too! Yeah!
Gems will let you buff your character in any region you think he/she is weak in and allow you to work around some of your own weaknesses. I like the idea of gems. And if they suck? I'm pretty sure the tourney level community will agree to just keep tourneys gem free.
Ok, who ever said you have to pay for the gems? How do you know if the gems aren't unlock-able in game? And no one is saying that it's okay to buy new gems.If they're free, whoop-d-damn-doo, if not then oh well we won't buy em. And for those of you saying no one is talking bad about the gems I point you to
