Seth Killian sent an email in today to clarify some confusion regarding whether or not you can play without gems equipped in Street Fighter X Tekken. You can play Street Fighter X Tekken without gems equipped. You simply choose characters and do not select any gems.
This can be done offline of course. For online, you could set up a lobby where you ask players not to select gems. For general matches, however, there is no online filter to disable people from choosing gems, because play including gems was Ono-san’s concept around which the game was built.
In a perfect world, this would be read, and people would play the game according to their wishes.
In the Age of Entitlement (aka, the world we live in now), people will whine and moan because everyone will not play the game the way THEY want to play it, and because gems aren't going anywhere.
And.....ACTION.
Well there we go! Gems aren't mandatory, and may not even be in tournament play. I see the gem system as fun, however, and I'll be looking forward to being bodied while using them when the game comes out.
See? Everybody wins! So that means tournaments can ban gems if they want.
good this saves the game
with gems it would be garbage
Well clearly Capcom will give us what they think we should have. Hope it turns out for the best....one can only hope at this point
But honestly, it wouldnt be that hard to implement a filter to prevent the use of gems. Namco had Special VS for SC....so its not like its entirely out of the realm of possibility.
lol you could ask people online not to chose them. Good luck!
If TO's could agree to ban all gems then this is one step closer to a decent game.
I'm eager to try out the gem system I think it will be fun. This game is gonna sell on its name alone there are people who want this game and don't even know what the gem system is nor do they care they just want Ryu vs Kazuya, Zangief vs King, Bison vs Heihachi. Its the dream matches that will sell this game not the gem system. I want to see some vids though of the gym system in a real competitive scenario with skilled players using it then well will know the true value.
whoops I mean "gem system" not gym system lol sorry for double post.
Lucky Charm Fighter.
Capcom,you guys dont get it...WE DONT WANT GEMS.
Playing with Gems should be like Heroes and Heralds mode in UMvc3.
Totally agree with #13, #16, #17
To add to #13, I think AEv2012, UMvC3 and KoF13 will hold me off for awhile, especially KoF13 (what a great game, true honest fighting game).
Skullgirls will hold me off until TxSF and im also keeping my eye out on the progress of Persona 4.
I gotta agree with #9. It's too bad nobody has the balls to tell Ono. That said, I am pleased to have been assured that we can at least equip empty slots.
You know really you guys sound like a bunch of spoiled kids that don't want to eat there vegetables. Seriously here is you guys
Irrational people - "I don't like it"
Rational people - "You've never even tried it"
Irrational people - "I don't care I know I won't like"
Rational people - "Don't you think you could just try a tiny bit"
Irrational people - "NOOOOOOOO *stamps feet* I DON'T LIKE IT AND I NEVER WILL I DON'T HAVE TO TRY IT!!!! *flails on the ground throwing a tantrum.
Try and prove that wrong
Whatever, less stupid people to deal with online.
This is looking more and more like it's going to be a train wreck.
"Excuse me could you not use gems?"
"OK"
Picks Gems anyway
"what an A-hole"
Capcom keeps their Troll Streak intact.
@#27,
Agreed and im surprised people didnt see this coming. Smelled the garbage from a mile away.
This makes me curious how prevalent "no gems" lobbies will be vs "regular" with gems lobbies throughout the life of this game. I think this is a decent compromise. I heard they were trying to streamline this for tournaments, wonder what they have in mind.
I'm also wondering what Capcom will do if "no gems" gameplay becomes the norm.
#23 Thank you for proving my point.... you are being completely irrational in every way you don't even have full proof that this is a bad idea. Just try it it won't kill you.
#26 and yes sir I am angry hence my name but seriously I could understand if people tried this and didn't like it but there isn't even a playable build with this implemented yet.
#33 In a way though I am venting my own frustration. Its the fact that this hate is completely misguided and people are up in arms about they do not fully understand and aren't even willing to give it a chance. Mr.Churchill I have always admired your work good sir I will continue this fight until I have nothing left.
The more news I read about SxF and its so caleld gem system the more I dislike it.. *sigh* I'm going to give it a shot though. Hopefully it won't be as bad as I think.
Lmaoooo... the game is gonna do well...if everyone on EH, IPW,and SRK... ban together and boycott..its still gonna do well.
OH and KOF 13.. TRUE?? HONEST?? LMAOOO... tell that to shen woo... and his touch of death combos...
In the end its just a game.. ppl need to chill..getting angry over a video game.....lol
*claps hands* great move capcom. this will now please at least 45% of the community BUT it seems to me that capcom has no idea where to take this project anymore. they say they might take out pandora mode or maybe they will take out the gem system judging how people are reacting to it. i would not be surprised if we see SF X tekken extened version. in the end its probably going to be the monster roster thats going to save this game. IMO
phantomprince29, everyone has a one touch death in that game. Thats why its 3 vs 3 ;)
Btw, Haunts coined that term for KoF13. Stay free young lad.
just like he coined true honest fighting..
please do the same...
dnt call it true and honest when thats not the case plz...
They should have saved this gem idea for a new PowerStones not for a big title like SFxT.
People are just limiting themselves if they decide not to give gems a chance. Even if you don't use them, there will always be that slight temptation of "I wonder what will happen if I use gems". I can already tell this segregates the game in some way since some online lobbies will want gems and others won't.
phantomprince29 , please understand that I didnt coin that term for KoF13, Haunts did and most of the FGC agrees. I truthfully agree.
I perfectly understand why they don't want to add a filter to remove gems. It would be like a filter to get rid of X-Factor in MvC3, or Ultras in SFIV, or HDCs in KOFXIII. It was designed to be a key mechanic in the game, so adding a filter to remove it isn't something they wish to do, and I agree with them.
The problem stems from having certain gems be exclusive to those who pay extra for them. Being able to pay for an advantage in a competitive game is not a good idea. Yes, I understand that such concepts exist and are allowed in the real world (such as paying extra for better equipment, players, etc.), but I don't think such a concept should exist in the gaming world.
@22
AngrySteve's mother - "Here's your bowl full of shìt"
AngrySteve - "I don't like it"
AngrySteve's mother - "You've never even tried it"
AngrySteve - "I don't care I know I won't like"
AngrySteve's mother - "Don't you think you could just try a tiny bit"
AngrySteve - "NOOOOOOOO it smells bad and came out your ass!!!!
AngrySteve's mother - "Didn't you tell people on eventhubs to try crap they probably won't like? Now stop being a hypocrite and try it"
AngrySteve - "Oh alright!"
AngrySteve *eats shìt*
End of story
Ono needs to be told to concentrate on the god damn game instead of idiotic gimmicks. I've been anticipating this crossover for years and now comes this.
- Art style still $ucks balls
- Dial a combo into launchers
- No 1-vs-1 option
- Gems
Yeah, I'll be going now... /rage
@49
no disrespect...but i could care less what the fgc thinks
phantomprince29 , non taken but youre posting on a FGC website.
lmao...yes @58..because i like to read the articles...and comment sometimes...lmaoo
I can't wait until this game comes out, all this b****ing will end. all the derps on here complaining about the gem system will stfu and realise this is an awesome game! Yeah thats right, I SAID IT! I've played the build without gems and its freaking sweet, I garauntee you'll enjoy this game a ton! I played it for 3 days straight and couldn't get enough of it, with gems it will just add more depth to the game, just let it go guys... let it F***in go already!
p.s. @22 :') well said!
if capcom really thinks these same forums won't be flooded with hundreds of pages of sfxtk content, videos etc they have failed. This site will have all of these nay sayers begging for more, and discussing this game the same way umvc3 or sf4 has. This game is a versus game, a what if, the whole premise has been light hearted fun from announcement. Either play or don't, why don't I see the marvel die hards on the sf forums bashing each other? Do the die hard sf "purists" or "elitists" over on the marvel pages going ape sh!t over that system. This is the fgc that wants to be taken seriously? Seriously?
@#5 Wrong, Tripping is just outright random and detrimental, Gems can be controlled, it's in closer relation to items in brawl, not Tripping.
CtAually I take that back, It's closer to special brawl mode than it is items or tripping.
My bad it was post 8 the font is incredibly hard to read via mobile device.
I agree with Angry Steve. I don't like the idea of gems at all, making me a full time member of the A.G.C.O.A - However, I'm still going to pick the game up regardless, and hopefully having some "hands-on" time -no homo- will change my mind about these bullsh-t gems. As previously mentioned, all niggas can do at this point is.....hope...
@ 54: You did get Steve with that one though LMAO - reminds me of an episode from The Boondocks...
Grandad: I can't wait to see Soul Plane 2 - the first one was funny!
Huey: About as funny as a lynchin'...
Grandad: Hush boy! You ain't even seen Soul Plane!
Huey: I never seen a lynchin' either, but I know they ain't funny...
@ 70: He was basically saying reserved judgment until you've actually played the game. If you read my post in it's entirety, you'll notice I said I'm still going to play the game and hope my mind changes - soooooooo.....
You're dumb!
@74
Right, and you said "I don't like the idea of Gems at all."
The exact opposite of what he said. Nice attempt to make friends with AngrySteve though:(
I understand, people who frivolously use the "N" word probably have a tough time making friends with people offline.
Cheers you Racist Pig.
@75
And you seem to have missed the keyword "however."
@76
I saw "However", then proceeded to call them "Bull$hit Gems".
Soooo, whether he's buying or not buying, it's still NOT what "AngrySteve" was saying!
How exactly is this your business? And why is you comprehension so low?
Do you also support his ignorant use of racial slurs?
Aluppoj: I was joking by calling you dumb, but I can see you truly are stupid! allow me to break it down for you. try to keep up...
Angry Steve: Don't knock it, til you tried it!
Me: Well, I'm not feelin' the gem system, but I definitely will try it just like Aluppoj will. And who knows, we might grow to like it.
I didn't like SF4's direction when it was first announced back in 08-09, especially playing 3S so hard - but as I played SF4, I grew to love it. So you need to relax homie! As for me being racist? All I have to say to that is LOL
@77
It's a public forum buddy. That's how this works ;)
In any case, the user in question already explained your reading comprehension problem, so I'll just leave it at that.
By the way, I'm blacker than the ace of spades! But I guess that doesn't help in my defence of racist accusations, as Black folk are pretty damn racist too lol
awesome! I'm so looking forward to this game! :D the gem system actually gets me hyped :D
@80
It's my forum. So watch your tone when addressing me.
@81
Ok buddy. You seem pretty neat. But for the record: Your initial post didn't convey the same feeling that "AngrySteve's" post conveyed. Ok?
He didn't say "I hate these BS Gems, but I'll try them anyway!". No! That's NOT what he said!
So, in conclusion. Why there was nothing wrong with your post (other than your language), there was no reason to reference AS's post.
You see? JESUS CHRIST HELP ME!!!!
its so funny that #22 is telling absolute truth and people just aren't mature enough to understand this XD
yeah let this game come, please let the gems be in PLEASE! dont change the gem system. ^_^
I'm still waiting for someone to convincingly explain why tournaments should, or would want to, ban use of GEMs.
(Not that Capcom cares much what you do at tournaments, mind you. Some people are deluded into thinking that tournaments are somehow a revenue stream for Capcom. They aren't.)
This made me lol "there is no online filter to disable people from choosing gems, because play including gems was Ono-san’s concept around which the game was built"
So basically they are saying Ono gets his way no matter what, when Crysis 2 came out it focus on the suit's abilities BUT they included an option to play without the abilities, my friends and I preferred the latter but would go back to the core game sometimes, having the choice was fun. It's a new system you need to take baby steps with these things, especially for a long-awaited title, if it goes well then make it mandatory in a next SF or crossover
@52 there were a lot of ppl who hated x-factor when it came out.
For the ppl who keep saying we should not complain, WE HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO COMPLAIN, we are spending our hard earned money AND we are trying to be faithful to CAPCOM by not pirating the game, we were happy when we first saw the game without gems, we are not happy after seeing the gems, so who should CAPCOM satisfy, the majority or just one(Ono)?
@83
Are you implying that I cannot speak my mind? If so, then please ban me right now, as I will continue to speak my mind otherwise.
Everyones banned unless you are talking trash on the gems.
I love fighting games period. Ever since I was 8 back in 92 and I played sf. I appreciate the evolution of the genre etc. with that said there never is no pleasing you f*cking fighting game nerds. Seriously. Stfu! If you don't like it we get it. But you guys keep blabbing blabbing. They give you an option to not pick gems and you still complain! You wanted mvc3 it comes out with 2 versions and you still complain about megaman! You get ssfiv updates and you still complain about new characters! What's next?! Jesus Christ! Not everyone is also into counting frames,balancing etc etc some people play the game casually and for fun. Express what you feel and keep it moving no need to complain in every damn post! You'll still buy it anyway!
my only problem with the gems are the DLC(aka PTU)ones. which are! pay for better gems http://i.imgur.com/J19Ox.jpg
but idiots will blindly support it.
Gems "could" potentially make for a great game. Gems add the concept of personal preference, style, and creativity to the game. If you follow tier lists like a robot, you are not going to like gems. Basically the good players will find great gems for their respective characters, and the rest of the community will copy them. It really is a great idea. I am surprised everyone is pooping on it.
The #1 problem with capcom gems is exactly what #92 stated. If there are pay to use/get gems - such as "best buy" gems - then the game has already failed. This would make the game, immediately, uncompetitive. I really hope that capcom makes the pre-order gems - an alt. costume or color, NOT a game mechanic or damage style gem.
I don't know how capcom doesn't see this. They are too smart to do something so dumb.
@93
My thoughts exactly.
To add to what ya said, we don't hate the gems...we just hate the fact that pre-order gems and DLC gems make the game instantly unfair.
If this was marketed as a casual game...everything would be alright.
Sadly, it's marketed as both a casual and hardcore fighter since Ono wants it to be taken seriously and played at tournaments like Evo.
What's wrong with fighting at a disadvantage that makes victory that much sweeter I can see the people that don't fight people they are scared of cuz they are bigger and stronger and yea it does translate into gaming cuz thy is a personality type I don't mind fighting against someone with gems and me not having any cuz I don't whine and I ain't scared
I've said this a thousand times already... I'll say it again.
No one I afraid of change. Until the specifics of the Gems came to light I think the Community at large was handling Pandora quite well.
But selling attributes is like giving you the Guns in COD and then charging you for the bullits! If this becomes the norm, god only knows what previously "in game" feature will become DLC. Srk's? Hadokens?
Charging for cosmetic DLC is wonderful! Do more of that. We'll all open our wallets for that. But selling Core Mechanics is the worst idea of all time! Making them "Retailer Exclusive" is an added sucker punch.
We set the tone folks. Buy these Gems now and Lord only knows what they'll charge for next.
I'm an old school gamer that's bought every SF. Bought every piece of DLC released thus far. And if this line of sales is turning me off than something is wrong!
Change/Evolution is fine. Let's just move in the right direction.
Well said #97 Aluppoj and totally agree with #95 Soriphen .
i remember Seth saying that you could not play without gems... did i dream it or they changed their mind?
#99, read the article carefully then read the whole page..its been answered.
In short, you dont have to pick it but your opponent will. Much like Xfactor in umvc3, you have the option to use it or not but your opponent will. THERES NO OPTION TO TURN IT OFF. IT IS PART OF THE GAME MECHANIC.
Normally I would keep quiet on subjects like this especially seeing how everyone is acting but I figure what the hell.
Personally I like the gem system. Paying for gems is indeed highly lame. However it doesnt even look like the gems last that long anyway for it to bother. I already see combofiend playing gemless and crushing ppl solely on great execution and reads. Whats most certainly going to happen is:
1.tournaments will be gemless
2.ppl will only really be able to train with ppl they know either in lobbies or in person.
We also have to hope that if we do get DLC gems that they are balanced so that buying a new one doesnt give you an advantage.
I mean I own MVSC3 and I never bought shuma or jill and i still destroy them online free.
@all of the ppl in the end that dont even try this title stay free.
@all the rest of you trust capcom needs us to continue the existance of this entire community.
You cant compare a DLC character to 10-30% increase of strength/defense/speed.
Thats like comparing level 1 xfactor to shuma. I'd easily destroy any new upcomnig characters compared to someone that has level 1 xfactor.
lol'd at people that dont buy the title will stay free. The game is as competitive as staring contest.
lol'd at you have to be a capcom sheep.
@AnaboliChris
You can put a gem to any character just like you can put Shuma on any team.
They are both pay-to-use.
They don't guarantee wins or obvious advantages.
There are certainly similarities too, you know.
You cant compare level 1 xfactor to a new character no.
If you think so then you are free. One combo with level 1 xfactor and youre dead. If you know how to block high and low you can avoid mixups from a new character.
What does x factor have to do with gems though? They are meant for different purposes and certainly aren't used the same way.
Smorgasboard , I'm going to make you think for a second.
Compare and contract X-factor level 1,2,3 with Gems Strength/Defense/Speed Boost.
Lets recap
Me:You cant compare a DLC character to 10-30% increase of strength/defense/speed.
Thats like comparing level 1 xfactor to shuma. I'd easily destroy any new upcomnig characters compared to someone that has level 1 xfactor.
You: @AnaboliChris

--
Are you still confused?
My point is, you cannot compare a DLC character to a DLC Gem. DLC character is not part of the main core mechanic of the game. Gems are the core mechanics of the game. A DLC gem gains options to the core mechanics.
Compare and contract X-factor level 1,2,3 with Gems Strength/Defense/Speed Boost.
You are essentially buying a form of X-factor in a form of gem. The more you know.
@ Aluppoj:
LMAO
"Thank you for proving my point.... you are being completely irrational in every way you don't even have full proof that this is a bad idea. Just try it it won't kill you. and yes sir I am angry hence my name but seriously I could understand if people tried this and didn't like it but there isn't even a playable build with this implemented yet..."
-ANGRY STEVE-
THIS! THIS IS WHAT I'M AGREEING WITH!!!! JESUS CHRIST HELP ME!!!
There are those who see the good in the gem system, as well as those, like myself, who oppose the idea. That is where Steve and I have a difference of opinion. But eventually, Steve comes to the conclusion that everyone who oppose the idea should just give it a shot before you say "this game is complete trash" which is what I'm agreeing with.
I completely understand why people aren't feeling the gems, but lets FACE FACTS! Whether you're Pro or Anti-Gems - No one's beliefs or doubts will be validated until you're playing the game for'ya damn self - which is exactly what I'm going to do.
To those who feel this gem bidness is enough to put you off playing the game entirely, you may be saving yourself from disappointment. Or you could be missing out on a great game - but you'll never know for sure...
you know, it would have been easier and more sensible to just have said gems is what happens if CvS had 6 more DLC grooves. That's more in line with the intention and effect gems will have on gameplay. Heck, HvH cards with DLC cards would work too.
Comparing gems with x-factor is pushing it.
Btw, i compare DLC gems with DLC characters because capcom has every oppurtunity to make both strong to force people to buy them. It didn't happen with characters.
Bought Gems lead to disadvantage which is what everyone who doesn't like this idea's problem is. The fact is you can't make a lobby which disables their use, only can it say in its name that you don't want them to be used. Ranked games everyone will use them. These are the issues and aren't solved by the fact it's possible not to equip them.
Smorgasboard , see it does not hurt to use your head to think sometimes right? Do it more often so you dont end up using my time explaining what 1+1 is (basic logic).
@111
Ah, you again... Sigh...
How is not wanting to pay money to "Move Faster" or "Hit Harder" irrational??
Maybe the Gems will be cool... However, PAYING FOR ATTRIBUTES WILL NEVER BE COOL!
You see? I'm perfectly willing to give Gems/Pandora a chance! I'm perfectly willing to spend money on COSMETIC DLC!
I'm NOT perfectly willing to pay for a God Damn Speed Boost! Do I have to play the game to realize that what they are trying to sell is fundamentally wrong?! No!
Get a brain kid. Grow the F up.
Capcom is a business first. Your best buddy second! If they can sell you their shirt they will. Pay for Gems now, Pay to do special moves in 2013?!
Two dollars for a Hadoken... Enjoy. Extreme? Maybe. But "Grooves" used to be in the game. Now your happy to pay for it!
We set the tone.
I believe Ono meant no harm with the Gems idea, to me it is a mechanism to balance out the game and give everyone a fighting chance, we know in any fighting game that there is no balanced play and the gem gives you the ability for a limited to "balance it out". lets say for example Ryu we all know his backdash is ass and with speed gem he can backdash more effectively. mainly Gems should help out those that dont know how to block and for the expense of meter. all this hype and thrash talk are from ppl that fear they will be losing due to the gems, which I dont see any pro complaining about it, tournaments can put a rule of no gem usage and you might as well not buy dlc gems if you dont want to,but whinning abt them is just a sign of immaturity. The reason capcom is doing this is to avoid balancing the game like SSF4AE. so stop being a troll and learn to play the game and adapt it to your style. NUFF said
if you cant adapt play top tier or just STAY FREE!
If people are gonna tolerate this kind of behavior and start paying for game attributes and sh1t, believe it or not you will start getting lesser and lesser contents in the game for your money in the future. Imagine SSF4 with only half of the characters available with only ultra1 enabled, and then if you wanna get the whole game you'll have to pay for DLC for ultra2 and the rest of the characters because "they are optional".
@#121
Gems do not give you new moves, just different attributes to your moves.
@116 Sure, you could potentially be paying for special moves, in SF new create a character mode. You never know how they could spin it.
I'm overall tired of this debate as it's come to an impasse.
I wouldn't mind the dlc gems if the dlc was an unlock code for all of them for those who were impatient, instead of exclusive gems.
How someone could manage to revoke all interest in an entire community for a crossover between STREET FIGHTER and TEKKEN is completely beyond me. What a shame, this actually looked like a revolutionary fighter for a while until Ono turned it into "Rainbow Party: The Fighting Game."
I guarruntee the gems system will be cool and add a new dimension to the fighting game genre. Sounds cool not knowing what tan opponent is gonna have set for you. This is the only community that cant accept comprimise. You guys didnt like the gem system they gave you the option to fight without it offline and your still not happy.
Your not paying for an xfactor because xfactor lasts dumb long and completely buffs everything.
Gems dont last that long and only buff certain parts of your gameplay. When I saw the demo I aready thought o ill just block when there gems activate.
I have a legitimate question:
If the DLC gems are balanced so they are equal in how much the buff in comparison to the stock gems would you guys mind them so much?
So to clarify: The stock power gem gives a 10% increase, if a DLC gem comes out that gives a 10% increase as well would that be soo bad. Like if the only differences were activation conditions.
o and like i said the option to fight offline without them means the tournament scen will still strive even without gems. Ive played it and its fun as hell.
@127
First off, we both don't know how gems will affect the tiers.
Secondly, DLC gems have to be inherently good or else there won't be any incentive in buying them.
Thirdly, no matter how "balanced" the gems seem...or even the DLC gems, which is going to be impossible...there's ALWAYS going to be unfairness for the person who doesn't have the money.
Lastly, read what #116 said. We don't give a damn about the gems...we're worried about what tone this will set if we support it.
Down the road, Capcom will think it's okay to charge for game-mechanic changing crap because we bought their DLC gems.
Have you ever thought that the whole gem system might've been built around it being a cash-cow instead of balance? The whole gem system literally screams cash-cow.
All CAPCOM needs to do is -
1:make a option to turn off the gems, eventually the ones who don't like it WILL try it and might love it.
2:don't make the dlc gems overpowered
Personally i don't see the problem with DLC gems, ppl have spent money to be better than the rest since the beginning of time but if you are a standard customer and you're able to beat the big spenders it makes it worthwhile.
3:take out that instant death from Pandora mode, let it slowly kill you instead. (don't think I forgot about PM's flaws) I HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING CAPCOM!!!
still not a bad idea to add gems to the game... think of all the combo videos we will see, especially by desk
