Hit the jump for a bigger rundown.
My mind hurts from seeing all these combinations and conditions. Too much man too much.
So these packs, are they preorder gems or are these in game gems?
Sounds fun. Can't wait to try them out.
**waits for the inevitable gem/DLC/"casuals!" whining**
So there are drawbacks. Gets more interesting every time I see news
@3 Event hubs just answered my question by adding that new image of in game gems.
So, yea...not happy about their being that many preorder gem packs.
We're hearing more about the gems than the actual game these days. There is still a game underneath all of these gems, right? There's "Street Fighter" in the title, so I assume there's maybe a little bit of actual fighting involved here aside from the gems? I dunno, I'm not sure anymore.
Is Capcom just completely braindead? In response to all of the complaints about Mega Man not being in Marvel VS Capcom 3, their response was to include him in the game in EVERY SINGLE WAY but to make him a playable character. Now, in response to all of the complaints about the gem system, this is ALL they want to talk about.
Capcom is all about stupid decisions these days...
Hey guys make sure to check out the gems so you know where to pre order for that gem exclusives!!!
lulz.
sooooooo..... i wonder how this is going to appeal to the masses.... i mean its too much for even me to digest..and i like fighters....
sfxt has become my most wanted rpg for 2012....
joking.... but it is a bit much
@1 agreed and thats the main problem plus the so call paid to win DLC type thing that will be happening with the Pre-order/DLC Gems. I don't hate the gem system, looking at it now I can imagine people making good strategy with them expanding their play style, what i hate is the fact that you can't play the game without them if prefer normal matches.
I like the idea of gems. The thing I don't like about the implementation so far is that some people are probably going to hunt down the best gems and exploit their activation costs. Blocking gems will result in boring turtle wars for example with both players not wanting to attack.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm buying the game either way.
LOL i love in the section for assist gems:
Easy Input: Special moves become easier to do
Super Easy Input: Special moves become very easy to do
Why even have "Easy Input" if there's a "Super Easy Input" available? They both have the same exact 'drawbacks' (-10% attack)
Also,
I'm tryin ta find a wooorrrdd to describe these Gems without being disrespectfuullllll!
Can I post my copy-pasta here that dictated problems with this gem system? OR are you guys sick of me already?
OK I just the vid, not bad I must admit. You only can equip 3 gems at a time and for each one there;s a drawback. You can also unequip them if you want to.
this reminds me of YuGiOh... Except that was a card game and this is a video game... wtf is with the GEMS? so dumb
I almost feel like playing devils advocate...
Hay Bokosaki! But theyre all balanced! You can pre order any where and there will not be any advantage over one pre order to the next because theyre all balanced!!
aahh cant do it...I'm annoying myself by trying.
I dont understand how defence is increased by 10%, does this basically mean you get 10% more health? that doesnt seem to be the case because there is a 20 second timer on it, so I dont see how they can arbitrarily add and subtract 10% health, but I dont see how it can make you 10% better at defence either.
maybe the video explains it, or im missing something (cant watch the vid at work)
#22
As terrible as the grab range is in this game, would it really matter?
@21
Not all games simply use health numbers as stamina the way SF4 does. There are many fighting games that actually have a value that's fitted into the damage equations so that defense can be modified. You can see it in action with Soul Calibur 4's Special Versus mode.
Hopefully this isnt a tournament game. One match will take 30 minutes.
Characters select, Color pallet select, Gem select, Button test, character select, color pallet select, geme select.
Player 1 Wins!
Counter character select, color pallet select, counter gem select.
Player 2 Wins!
Character select, color pallet select, counter gem select.
I like how everyone is suddenly tournament players...
If you know what gems you want to use then it shouldn't take more than a few seconds and it's sorted to make it even quicker. Picking characters and colors definitely won't take long and button checks take a couple moments at the most.
LitchiFayeLing, stay free.
Button checks now takes long as is. Add gems to the equation and counter picking each other will obviously make a match longer.
I dont think you've ever been to a tournament before. But hey if you're nothing but a casual player then dont worry about it right? Right.
If you got a job instead of playin vids 24 7 maybe you could actually afford a pack of gems if need be. Capcom may be making money, but if a company doesn't then they can't continue to pour bigger budgets into more expansive games. Support the companies you love and get a damn paper route
#32
As if you're above anything but average at best.
Pay to get better activation conditions, stupid preorder dlc . Capcom contradicting themselves again. -_-
#32
You make it sound like it's going to take forever. If I know I'm picking Poison/Lili and know the gems I want to use then it's right into the match to check my buttons and then we restart for the actual fight. A minute, two tops. How long does it take you to pick your characters and color?
#36
They don't look much better to me...many of the same gems are coming with the game.
Hey guys, what's the best part about fighting games?!
Thats right the randomness so let put in gems that active at condition that you and your opponent don't know for the other.
Sound like funny eh?
I love the characters
I love the stages
I love the 2v2
I love the chaincombo system
But I ain't loving the Gems.
Also colour blind player are screwed.
@39 Here's an example:
Immense power lvl 3: activate pandora mode.
Pre-order Immense power lvl 3: connect with 2 launchers.
is this a beat em up or a role playing game? i can't tell anymore
#41
I see. Counterpoint
WW Immense power 2: Guard cancel twice
Normal Immense power 2: Connect with ten normals/A launcher
One is using meter while the other doesn't. The main difference is just activation methods. Maybe you WANT that boost for Pandora to become even more devastating or to punish a mistake with a huge combo.
@14 - Super Easy will also disable some of your character's moves if it is the same inputs as the "Super Easy" version of your special move. I don't believe Easy disables any moves.
It's great to see the actual gem conditions.
It looks like the activation conditions are more reasonable than cheap. Also, I like that some gems actually have drawbacks like Defense - 10%. It looks like Pandora builds will definitely be used as well.
Does Capcom look at this and think balance is a possibility at its onset? Just the combination of gems and the inherent level of the characters and teams makes me wary. I mean if even the characters will almost certain have some level of disparity between them + the first foray into the gem system seems like a lot to handle. I predict at least 2 more iterations. Im looking forward to Super Ultra Turbo Mecha Balance Fandango Street Fighter x Tekken v2013 Edition with extra characters and a couple new stages before the end of 2012 or early 2013.
well guys some of the complaining is for nothing they even say in the video that if you don't want to equip gems their is an option not too. also if you want all the preorder gems just get the special edition it's 10 bucks more then the price of the regular game and it comes with all 5 gem packs.
#47
Ono said there wouldn't be one. And unlike the MVC3 producer he hasn't lied to us. So I am going to take his word
What Ett (#40) said is true. You will mostly (unless you paid attention at your opponents selection, and remember that during the fight - sounds unlikey to me) not know which gems the other player utilizes. Which contradicts a very fundamental element of fighting games, namely knowing what is going on by looking at the screen, knowing your opponent's options (as opposed to say RTS games, where not knowing what your opponent might be doing is part of the game). Activation conditions are completely concealed, as is the exact effect, merely the type is known.
Also, DLC bonuses providing advantages to players, something Capcom repeatedly stating would not happen, is happening. Big surprise. Please note that when I say advantage, that does not necessarily mean better gems, but at the very least more options.
Lastly on a personal note, all those red, green, yellow etc. flashing auras make the game look a lot more stupid than it needs to.
As has been said before, there is a good game beneath the gems, pandoras and whatnot, but at this rate it looks entirely possible we won't be seeing much of it.
#49 yea thats great ....until the next 10 gem packs come out.
Gems might be fun to customize, but its a lot to learn at once.
We dont even know how to play the game yet and we have Gem Study course to take 1st.
Damn...there is actually people here complaining because they have to THINK! Amazing.
Well, I knew it. The preorder gems are way better than the ones bundled with the game itself since they don't have any negative activation conditions, not one!
So screw this. I'll just wait for the Ultra Hyper Street FIghter X Tekken Less Bullsh!t Edition thats coming out next year.
who is in the mood to go thru all of this info????????
stuff i dont like about it :
the sounds of gems clicking is annoying, on screen the rotating things too
and how they all look like color 10 (i think) from sfiv
graphics still the same as sfiv
combo launch combo launch system for all and universal moves
1 round
double stage
no edgy stages no memorable music
stuff that i like about it :
colour edit
team with someone against others (althou i like 1 on 1 fighting games)
...i was honestly going against alot of things i like and supporting this game but this time this info really turned me off
...not buying it . and im only complaining in hope that someone sees this and things go right for SF V. that is all
1. Immense Power Gem lvl 2 EX (Pre Order/CE): Your partner connects with 2 launcher: +20% dmg; +10% healing (20 seconds)
2. Immense Power Gem lvl 2 EX (Pre Order/CE): Your partner connects with 2 launcher: +20% dmg; +10% meter healing (20 seconds)
3. Immense Power Gem lvl 2 EX (Pre Order/CE): Your partner connects with 2 launcher: +20% dmg (30 seconds)
=
60% more damage, 10% healing, 10% meter healing for whooping 20 seconds (20% more damage aferwards for additional 10 seconds)
herp derp.
Apparently virtually NONE of you can use your heads. HURR DURR PRE-ORDER GEMS ARE OBVIOUSLY BETTER!!!1
Psst...
Pssst...
Look at "slots", yeah, some of them take 2 out of the 3 slots.
Getting sick of all the whine about wanting a "gemless option".
It's a method to add some depth to the game. I mean, any moron can figure out that the speed boost may unlock combo opportunities etc. it would be like taking out FADC in SF4, and any somewhat serious SF4 player KNOWS how big of a deal FADC really is, heck, only the focus move itself.
And people are being intimidated by numbers? Christ, a boost is a boost, no need to bring math into anything unless you are doing some serious frame research to find out those over the top combos after getting the speed boost.
All you need to think of is: "This is fast, this is faster".
The numbers looks alot better then, say: "Fast, Faster" etc., that would just look dumb...
I think the gem system and activations sounds really cool.
Not only will you be able to somewhat customize your pick you might also boost your picks strength or even cover their weaknesess (Zangief with speed gem).
sooo we are going to be playing street fighter and pokemon?? where i have to choose the best attacks??? doesnt anyone else feel like this game has gone down hill from when it was first announced?? sure it has some what of a decent cast.......but thts just to cover how bad this game is gonna be/ think about the tournament seen....where does this game fit in? i mean all i really heard from this video was bullsh#t, bullsh$t, bullsh#t. is there anyone out there tht can seriously say they r hype for this game?? (here come all the yugioh and Umvc3 players)
I am not worried about the gem system at all and I love RPG's so thinking about what gems to equip for your play style would be fun. The preorder gems isn't really that much different from the gems already in the game just the conditions, I don't see anything super game broken about this at all. Everyone cried and complained about the gems like they knew what they were talking about.
How they gonna have all these gems in tourneys,as most are DLC or we'll have banned Gems because people need to buy some or hunt some.
im gonna use auto block, auto tech throws, spam fireballs and if they get close turtle like crazy, and shoryuken everythin i can spot, if you actaully manage to open me up, my gems will do the work. And then i need a gem that automaticly sends the messeage: "Hold dat!"
You know that thats going to happen. Yay to all the shameless scrubs out there.
@40
I'm with you on the issue for colour blind gamers. I think it's a real problem, it could be easily over come with shapes or something like that but I don't think they've considered that. They've not considered too much about gems so missing something like that doesn't surprise me though. Would be interesting to know if many players think that might be an issue?
What I'm most irritated about is how they misspelled "divine" in EVERY INSTANCE of the gem titles, and no one has picked up on it.
@72 Ever heard of punish? You can still be chipped and I'm quite sure you can't tech throw command throws...
@74 It's not the first of it's kind to use simplified commands... Just look at BlazBlue. Besides, if you actually checked the clip, you'll see that alot of the moves were even unavailable if using "Super Easy Input".
The colours might be an issue for the colourblind, but I doubt it will be such a big thing that it will be taken away from competetive playing. But, as they said, they are still tuning on the gem system so they might look into it.
It's still a long time until it's released.
bet anything that the clarification that these gems have drawbacks will still not suffice the people who are oh so livid about the gems.
as almost all non-idiots on EH thought, the gems will have balancing elements. and as many said, no highly skilled player is going ot be using auto-block... so they can waste a gem slot (cause let's face, highly skilled players don't need auto blocking.... otherwise, they wouldn't be highly skilled lol)
@77: Yes, highly skilled players block every crossover/mixup every time.
@ 55:
These people aren't complaining about having to think. They, much like myself, are old fashioned. That being said, they want to pick their character(s), colors and supers, and start the damn fight! There will be enough "thinking" to go around when the match starts!
I'm really trying to like these gems, but man I just can't. I must be gettin' old. All this catering to casual players who will undoubtedly beat arcade mode, and trade it in for Call Of Duty or Madden, just seems like a bad idea to me.
OMEGA EASY INPUT GEM: Just shout "Hadoken", and Ryu will throw a fireball
What ever happened to spending hours upon hours in training mode? doing hado's, shoryu's and tatsu's a thousand times in row like standards on a chalk board? But I'm not going to judge this game until i've got my hands on it!
I remember speaking ill of SF4 when I first touched it. I was coming from 3S, so it was hard to deal with the sluggishness. But once I got it home and played played played, It's now one of my favorite fighting games. Still not better than 3s or A3 IMO, but it's a great game!
I can only hope SFxT will have the same effect...
time will tell....time will tell. to be honest i dont think it matters how many gems there are cause once ppl see what top player plays with what gem they will all copy the same thing. i mean 57 gems?! come on who is really going to spend hours experimenting with them when they could let somebody else who is more experience do that for them. i swear there will be little to no originality online.IMO
@86
That could be true to a degree, but it would only be hurting them. The gems would work best by picking ones that cater to your character and playstyle. If I play the same character as Mike Ross, it hardly means i would benefit from his gem setup if we have different styles.
Right now, I think the gem idea is a great idea. It's actually the #1 part of the game i am looking forward to. I mean what really separates this game from others on the market? Gems.
IMO, this is a much better idea than a SSF4 Tag game with some tekken characters. This will add a creative element. To all the people who are calling Capcom idiots - why are you here posting about a game hasn't been released yet? Why not wait and let the rest of the community tell you how to think. Wait for the tier list, so you can cry and complain.
#76
im chipping them with my fireballs, while building meter, and i said i dp everything i spot, so i will do it when im sure it will hit. And of course im not going to sit in front of Gief. Anyway, like i said in my last sentence, that is a thing for scrubs, im not going to do it, and on high level play it sure wont be effective, but thats what a lot of people at the beginning levels will do so what im saying is that its not really going to help people get into the game, like capcom planned, but actually gives shameless scrubs another weapon to troll their way through the online matches, and beginners will have a hard time keeping their motivation.
Eh ill give gems a chance cant knock till i try to it
Most players don't bother learning there characters or matchup and let other players do the work for them anyway. It'll probably be the same with gems.
Gems looks like a lot of fun actually. Think I'm more interested to get the game now.
the only thing i dont like is that you have to pay extra for certain gems kmt thats a bit silly considering gems are a core mechanic of the game
and selecting gems from such a big selection may deter some casual players hope they end up doing a third strike
as for me im happy to give the game a try
That's really a shame that we have to pay extra for gems.... -__- I was so hyped by the game, I wanted to preorder the collector edition...
But I'm really against core gameplay wich must be bought... so, I'm not sure anymore now...
I hope they'll announce that the gems pack can be unlock in-game without to have to pay anything but time :/
I like the gems, they remind me of decorations from the Monster Hunter series.
that said, I still wouldn't mind an option for gemless fighting.
