UPDATED: Lynaken added about 10 more match stats into the story.tiel whoring got him to top ten at evo, i'd say that was pretty damn far. (i still think he lost because he shut his brain off. up kick city)
but still it seems like the tier flockers that the japanese seem to be are having a hard time finding the strongest character forcing them to play who they like, not will win most consistently in the stat race.
and if that is the case them kudos to capcom for fixing super china fighter IV
Man and I thought I will never be able to see Daigo playing Ryu in tournaments anymore. Looking forward for more awesomeness from Daigo with Ryu.
If anyone here knows about Magic: the Gathering, there are certain styles of play in that game just like a fighter game. There is control and agro (and combo, but that is not relevant). He tried aggro with Yun. Now he is going back to control. Control is all about letting the small stuff in, keeping the big things out and punishing the mistakes accordingly.
Now we go back to that, all those mind-games and counter strategies instead of all-out lashes. This should be fun.
I dont know why everyone wants daigo to go back to ryu again, i remember after evo last year in super daigo started losing alot to alot of players and everyone hated his ryu. If u go back to vanilla he would've destroyed all these guys above but now most of the scores were pretty even which makes me think he'll struggle in the us again.
@16:
I can't speak for everyone else, but personally I've always felt that Ryu was his character. Not necessarily for gameplay reasons, but in the way that Ryu and Daigo both approach their craft. They both fight for the sake of fighting and are always seeking improvement. Heck, if you've seen some of Daigo's interviews, you'd think Ryu himself was speaking!
These matches needed to be recorded an uploaded. I could easily waste an afternoon watching them.
I think that Mago's Sagat might be the one to beat in 2012!! Regarding Daigo, even though he's not my favorite Japanese player, I'm really curious to see how does in US majors.
Do you still think he'll be as dominating as before?
@24
Fuudo was one of the best Ryu players in Japan in Vanilla with Daigo and Momochi. and Ryu was no where near broken in Vanilla. besides Mago lost a lot to players and he played Fei Long too, but Fuudo beat a lot of those players and then some...tells you that his skill isnt relied on "Broken Characters"
on a side note...i dont know why or even how everyone is happy he stuck with Ryu. now were just going to hear the same damn thing we heard in Vanilla "alls Daigo do's is HADOKEN HADOKEN HADOKEN...no kool 157 hit combos HERP DERP"
im happy with whoever he plays. i love watching top level matches, but some people take this game too far. oh well.
See 2 matchups of Fuudo total. One against one of Fei's worst matchups (Claw) he loses both. OMG EXPOSED
Seriously guys, the patch has been out for what... a week now in arcades? And you think that losing 2 gachi's = suddenly it shows that Fuudo is a sh*t player?
Seriously, at least he appears to be sticking with Fei instead of dropping him like a hot brick the minute any nerfs come a long like Mago or like Daigo with Yun.
i can believe im saying this but I'm really glad that he's going back to ryu. as much as i hate seeing a lot of ryus online, i think this is the way things should be. bring on all the ryus cause i've been waiting for yalls return X) HADOKEN!!!
@#32
This is one of the most retarded things I have read recently.
So Daigo's 2009 EVO championship does not mean much cause Ryu was pretty much one of the top 3 characters?
Not to mention people acting as if Daigo only plays Ryu.
There are years before 2009.
@32
then why wasnt the finals of GG and Evo down to two Fei players? why was the top 8 at Evo one Fei and THREE Vipers two Yuns one Seth and an Akuma? why did GG have only two noticeable Feis? Fuudo has always been a great player. mainly because hes played a harder fighter then SF4 (Virtua Fighter). if youd even bother to watch his games, instead ignorantly bashing his skill, you would see how bad he outplayed PoongKo (which Mago didnt do so well against) in both GG and Evo along with guys like Latif, Momochi etc...
no such thing as broken tier. no character was ever broken in SF4 history. you want broken characters? go try characters like Shin Akuma from Alpha 2/3 Akuma from ST Gill from 3S etc... those are broken not Fei. learn some SF kiddo
I think Daigo should win this EVO if he does smart counteracts. Ryu will be his main sure but for when he's up against a character that gives Ryu trouble, he should use his other characters such as Yun for the Sim match, Akuma for the Sagat match, Cammy for the Fei matchup.
@#39 BisonBetterBeGoodInSSF4 Great point. Only 2 good Fei players in Japan. And as for EVO there were only 5 Feis in the top 32. So do the math there were 27 other characters that also made top 32. Fei was never broken. Other characters got weaker which in turn made Fei stronger by default. With all the crying about Fei he is now worst the Vanilla status. His damage is lame so now he has no comeback factor whatsoever. Get a life lead and hold down back, you will beat Fei now.
I don't think that Daigo has dropped Akuma, Yun or even Guile fully because Ryu still has bad matchups against Viper and Dhalsim.
@16
Those matches were not Evo or another huge tournament. Sure, he may have kept even with a lot of players but the stakes are not that high yet. Wait until something rather major comes up and tournament nerves start to take hold. That's sort of where tier lists go down the drain.
Also, with the resurgence of fighting games there is a much larger player base by an order of magnitude right now. Even in Japan. Which means more competition and more people to practice with so keeping that top spot will be much harder as the competition skill level went through the roof.
I"m honestly interested in Daigo's Ryu going up against Poongko's Seth in AE 2012.
The title of the article is misleading in order to grab attention. This no more means Daigo is settling with Ryu than it meant he was ever settling with Akuma/Cammy. It just means he is trying said character out, nothing more.
It'd probably take a long time to make any other member of the cast as strong as his Ryu is, though, so if he wants to avoid the effort Ryu would be a good pick.
@ 39
top 8 at evo was:
Winner: Fuudo (Fei Long)
2. Latif (C.Viper)
3. Poongko (Seth)
4. Daigo Umheara (Yun)
5. Kindevu (Yun)
5. Tokido (Akuma)
7. Wolfkrone (C.Viper)
7. Flash Metroid (Zangief, C.Viper)
flash can only count for half a viper and half a gief :)
45 are you r3turded? how do you compare TKCS to a rekka.? TKCS was so horrible it was completely eliminated from the game. Its never coming back. Im guessing you ate your share of rekkas and then some.
Anyways im glad daigo's back to his main. His ryu is exiting in its own way, much more creative than valles or air's. I'll miss his yun though. Now that was fun, seeing his yun against Fchamps dhalsim. Im also betting Fchamp is salivating from seeing how daigo switched back to ryu. Amirite?
its funny to see flash metroid credited as viper too, he played her only after going all the way with gief, and then the only 2 times he picked viper he lost and people like to say there was 3 vipers in top 8. if someone picked dan after getting to the top 8 with yun people would say there was a dan there too? to me his viper doesn't count, he wouldn't even get top 32 if he were going only with her before.
Poor Nemo! That's quite a beating that he took from Mago.
I think ryu just fits his playstyle sometimes characters that ain't as good are better for you as a player
Ryu fits Daigo because he has options. Daigo is a calculating and defensive player, which goes hand in hand with Ryu's medium kick and fireball barrages. The comeback potential is right there too.
But he still may switch to someone else. May make Guile his secondary.
Metaphorically a real man would take Dan Habiki and win evo 2012 with him. By a "real man" I mean David Hasselholf and by "metaphorically" I mean get on your knee's and lick my *****
My only question is, Japan Players, pay to play where USA Players get Paid to play... , in USA its your job to be a pro gamer in Japan you play games for the love of the game. yet some how USA is still behind japan when they don't even play the game at the same seriousness? i understand japan plays for pride but USA players play for a living... i see cc. col. F-Champ streaming for hours a day everyday on twitch.tv he is getting ad money and getting paid to play the game from his team, on top of that tournaments in USA pay pretty good cash prizes where in Japan most don't even pay you bus fair. so why is it so impressive if a USA player beats a Japan player? when the Japan player is jet lagged, just paid to fly in does not play the game for a living works a 9-5 and plays the game when ever they get the chance to, the way i see it every time an USA pro gamer loses to Japan its a shame... this is not Korea and Starcraft where this is there job....
Wouldn't mind seeing the sets between Daigo and Jyobin
