Air posted blog of some Japanese top players thoughts on Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012. EG|Momochi, Itabashi Zangief and Wao all give their impressions of the game so far. They cover a lot of characters Ryu, E. Honda, Cody, Yun, Zangief, Hakan, Oni, Dudley and more.Tip submitted by ibro911, needles.a, Rafael2487, KageV and WillJustWill.
So Wao is telling me that I should burn two meters on a meter reliant character to throw the rose when both the rose and overhead can be beaten at the same time by a reversal? Hell, it might even work out better for characters because the rose will reset them. The rose was great in 3s because it actually made opponents change what they did on wake-up and made Dudley hit harder. If I throw the rose in this game, it doesn't change what my opponent is going to do.
Itabashi mentions that fireball speeds for Ryu have changed to be somewhat different like in SF2, this wasn't mentioned in the changes log.Unless it was mistranslated.
I agree. I picked up Vega (claw) recently, I played him all through vanilla. I love the character, but I think he will be low tier as hell in Ver. 2012! A slight damage boost to an attack is no where near as good as standing fierce causing a hard knock down. :( QQ

It was said that there are changes that are not mentioned in the official changelog that was published (hidden). Pretty sweet if you ask me :)
Ryu, sagat is back. Stream monster now switch to their main hate from Yun to Ryu. You don't want rush down characters, now you get turtle characters. that's what you guys also wanted.
@ #12
So much salt, onlive scrubs beat you much?
Ryu wasn't bad in AE, but wasn't a viable tourney character either, with top tiers like Fei and Yun trashing him.
And Vega is okay, stop bitching about not having a viable reversal etc, he's solid in 2012.
LOL now people are complaining about Gief and Ryu. this game will never be balanced...not as long as we have people like this. you know when this game was balanced? when it first hit the shelves in 2009 (Vanilla). people complain about such an easy to pick up SFer and dont realize that the majority of the other SFers will make you cringe at how poor the balancing is. you guys are too spoiled. cant wait for SF5. if Capcom reads this...make SF5 as hard (or harder) then SF2. that way these kids can see how easy SF4 is.
Anyone complaining about gief being too strong now is mentally challenged. Most of the characters in the hands of a player with decent footsies can easily lame out gief. Learn your footsies and anti-air and gief can't do jack. Top tier? not a chance. he's barely mid.
Gief buffs are very dumb but whatever nice to see changes that major even if its gief. Makes the game more interesting.
@15
Vega is already very good in AE?? Sure he has hard matchups but if your a better player they dont stand a chance (goes for every other character except gimmicky characters)
Yes i play Vega enough to know.
@18 & 19
You guys just read his post wrong cause he just wants his character to have good matchups. Vega has some bad ones and ryu really doesn't and they buff him and gief alot but Vega didn't get much. (personally i like him how he is)
Its people like you that try to start fights just because you misinterpreted what some else says.
@22 You think Vega is very good? He's not the worse character, but "very good" is a sure overstatement. The point is he is now going to be a lot worse due to other characters buffs. Vega is somewhat gimmicky anyhow due to the kara-throw game.
His hard match-ups are also going to get a lot harder.
@24 The thing about that, was it wasn't down to his Vega, it was mostly due to the mentality of his opponents fearing a OCV. In singles he didn't do so godlike. That's also one example of a high level Vega, what others are their? Reiketsu is the only one I can think of.
He's never done as much as others at tournaments, I only heard of him from Canada cup. He's amazing, but Vega has his limits, hence why no other pro seems to touch him and hence why he's never one a big major.
You're missing the point, I'm not saying Vega is bad in AE at all, he is viable. What I am saying is in Ver.2012, he won't be as good and will drop down in tier's a lot.
@ #25
Yeah i know but as far a locals hes gonna be fine. (Not everyone competes and we'll still have those vega loving players that do) Player skill dependent and character loyalty is where im going with it. Sure he's gonna have hard matchups but still if someone likes him enough and practices he is a beast. Only character in the game that really didn't matter how good the player was is Hakan. I seriously have never lost to one and hopefully in 2012 that'll change cause i personally like him and wish people would play him instead of gief or t.hawk. (Gief is probably the easiest for beginners at fighting games but I think Hakan would be an upgrade to test more skill grappler type players).
Maining Gen in 2012 so hopefully I'll see something on him soon :)
It's funny: when AE was the standard, no one, least of all tournie players, would've been allowed to say Yun was braindead.
Now, of course, all the 'lrn2play' posters have admitted that yeah, maybe he WAS a little too good...
@27 I'm sorry but Gief is more for beginners actually play the character and fully understand his playstyle before you judge plus everyone knows the shotos are the beginner characters since they have some better advantages.
@32
while Super was the most balanced version IMO...my point was that no matter how many times they patch, some idiots who know absolutely nothing about SF, will complain simply because they lack the skill. Vanilla SF4 is still FAR more balanced then some of older SF games like SF Alpha3 and ST. i hardly played the EX version but im sure someone in their is stronger then the rest. i wish these people would pick up a harder fighting game and understand how easy SF4 is. too bad theyre lazy, spoiled, un-skilled scrubs. so compared to other characters in SF (ST Vega, CE Sim/Bison, 3S Chun/Yun) Sagat was childs play.
I never liked the EX games and it remains my least favorite of the bunch, just in front of SF1 due to playable characters. Garuda was absolutely ridiculous. but if the games get increasingly too difficult or technical the scrubs won't pick up the games period.
@33
Sorry, AE was the most balanced. Top Tiers aside (every version has them) the match ups were never closer. Low tiers were never stronger. Top 8's were never more diverse.
Hopefully 2012 will do even better. But the bashing AE took was an unwarranted joke. Thoughts from a robot community that can't figure out how to play a match up properly.
And for God's sake! At least Yun, Yang and Fei were hand to hand fighters! They had to come in to earn a win!
Sonic Boom, Tiger Shot, Sonic Boom, Tiger Shot, Sonic Boom, Tiget Shot.
Vanilla, Super, Vanilla, Super, Vanilla, Super, Vanilla, Super!
And I like Sagat and Guile, but at least let the scrubs work a little.
Most have come to this agreement eliminating the Hong Kong Trio aside most of the match-ups were balanced sadly those 3 ruined it got to hand it to the U.S. being stubborn about using the top tier in this version of the game.
@ #30
I know from experience. He was my first Sf character i played. Also super street fighter 4 was my first fighting game besides melee. My first day playing super i picked between Zangief and T.Hawk since their inputs are simple and a basic understanding of the character made you walk all over people. Online doesn't mean anything but if you do like online he is very easy to win with. Of coarse i branched from that into cooler characters.
@36
I dont think US players dont use those 3 because of 'pride' or whatever, it actually take skill to play those 3 chars, and they are quiet advanced characters.
@38 That argument makes no sense since most that used the top tier like Marn for example just switched back to there mains. The skill argument is really mute at this point since some already were using Fei before the rest of his tech was completely seen by everyone who had wrote him off, unless you are talking about online which meh shouldn't even be taken into consideration.
The only character that never reached his full potential in NA was Yang since Japan had discovered blockables from mid screen.
btw Grimmjow were friends on psn and i know he has a tech side but i basing things on equal level of play not scrub vs pro. im not stupid i understand everyone has a tech side but i think its good to start off as gief and then move on (no offensive to you yourself; your the best gief i know).
@43 good players know how to beat them especially in SF4 with FADC and EX moves, good shoto players know what type of fireball to use and when, I think there is more strategy in fireball wars than a one hit into long combo strings(ex- yun's Genei Jin set up)
Ryu had a get out of jail card with that DP>FADC>U1 everybody who I saw play him rely on it to save them, they took out the focus cancel out of H.dp so it won't be so easy but they buff other things to accommodate.
Everyone who thinks Super was the most balanced must have been playing those top-13 characters that were balanced against each other and didn't even bother touching the rest of the cast. The mid to low-tier characters are very unbalanced. AE actually fixed a lot of this, but you guys wouldn't know about that because you were too busy complaining about jab headbutt not having invincibility and having to burn meter to punish AA's.
*Burn meter TO AA, not punish AA
/stay free my command of the English language.
@45 I don't know if you were playing the same game as me, because from what I saw, SSF4 easily had 20 characters topping. Yes there were characters that were really weak, but those were really few and far in between. This is much better than seeing maybe 10-12 characters top in AE.
I think all the 3rd strike characters are all advanced characters in SUPER or AE in there own right.
When u look at all the options and mixups they have, but they arent as quite as effective to use in a safe consistent manner....say a technique like making your opponent jump over your fireball so u can punish them.
Idk if anyone understands what im trying to say but whatever. They arent quite as simple to use. same goes to the other characters but yeahh
Can anyone here post the video of Diago's interview after he got raped by Poongko's seth at evo 2011? I heard he stated that never in his life was he beaten so badly, so hard , in such a erotic way. That while fighting Poongko and getting his butt kicked he also had to fight the urge to jump on Poongko and make out with him right then and there. Does anyone have this video?
Whoa, I'm impressed that something so "out of the box" shakes things up so positively.
(With regards to Gief's HP hard knockdown)
