Schiff sent in an interview he did with Amiyu a Japanese player who is currently the ranked number one ranked Gen player with 133,272 BP.
Can you explain the meaning of your nickname?
It comes from "amusement" -> with Japanese spelling: Amyuuzemento -> "Amiyu" which is similar to that ^^ since I enjoy amusement and fun ^^
How did you decide to pick Gen? Were you a Gen player back in the Street Fighter Zero/Alpha days?
I've play Gen since Zero/Alpha 2 ^^ I was poor at it (lol) but I didn't forget the fun and passion of that time and since the release of the first Street Fighter 4 I thought I really hoped Gen was in… ^^ When the home version was released, I was extremely happy ^^ Gen is very fun to play for various reasons.
How long do you train and play every day/week?
It depends on the day. On weekdays about 3 hours ^^ on weekends, as soon as soon as I get up, I turn on my Xbox (lol) but I don't play only as Gen, since I enjoy using a lot of characters ^^
Anyway I can say with confidence that Gen is my main character.
What can you tell us about the arcade scene in Osaka?
In Osaka players use a great variety of characters. There are characters which are difficult to deal with for other prefectures, so I think the environment is quite good.
Hit the jump to check out the rest of the interview and some matches of his Gen.
Do you plan to attend to international events (for example EVO 2012)?
I don't have many chances to do it, because of my job ^^ : but I would love to.
What are your first impressions regarding Gen in ver. 2012?
I'm sorry but I haven't had the chance to play much, but I'll make a report since I plan to test it soon ^^
In your opinion, which is the worst match-up for Gen? Can you give any advice about how to deal with it?
I cannot say which is absolutely the worst but if I've to pick a difficult one, I'd say Guile. When fighting Guile, I think it's fundamental to manage to score a knock down as soon as possible ^^
Why are there so few Gen players?
Gen requires difficult execution, he needs meter for an invincible anti air, builds meter slowly, but above all he has low stun and stamina. I think this is why there are so few Gen and C. Viper players ^^ but I don't like to have to fight against my own Gen
Regarding Gen in ver. 2012 , which buff do you think is the most important?
I won't be able to express my opinion about this until I can examine it carefully but I'm really thankful for the change to Crane cr HK ^^
What do you think about the new Jyasen combo? Do you think it is worth the meter?
I'm thinking a lot about it but at the moment it's hard to think "it's necessary for sure" ^^ when the console version will come out, I think I'll make a lot of tests ^^
Ultra 1 or ultra 2, which one do you think is best?
I used to prefer ultra 1 but now I feel that ultra 2 has potential ^^ since I use it against characters that are difficult to contrast ^^ now I really like ultra 2
Sorry for not having said anything important

^ the most constructive comment I've ever seen.
Btw I'm a big fan of Amiyu, and I've learnt alot from his gen, gen is a fun character but I agree with him that gen is very execution heavy and very easy to make mistakes.

This made me feel fuzzy inside.
Respect to Amiyu, his Gen's awesome.
#1, honestly m8................
I'm happy to hear that Amiyu also finds the Guile match up difficult. I figured I sucked at that match up because I'm impatient, but maybe it's not just that.
Great to hear Amiyu's opinions, and I hope to hear more on what he has to say about 2012 Gen. Good interview!

I've just jumped to random characters picking up their BnB and I can do 99% of their combos with no problems. A lot of characters have links that are very lenient.
As for Amiyu being where he is in the ranks by the possibility is a joke. The only way that statement is true is if you see a gen doing shenanigans. Amiyu is a solid footsies player. He doesn't do a lot of oga tricks he goes for straight solid play. That type of play is SF 101, if you lose to that, you aren't good at SF. Yes gen has tricks but most of the tricks Amiyu uses that Gen offers, almost all characters have it. And he plays a lot, and I'm sure the players he plays vs are used to his play style.
Gen is actually better than people give him credit. In AE I place him mid low tier/mid tier not low/low high tier where a lot of people think he belongs.
^
It's not his strongest incarnation, but def his best overall. Personally I felt Gen was high mid tier in Vanilla.
I prefer how he is now. Can't wait to see how he turns out in 2012.
I main Gen since AE came and I think he's mid. Only Seth/Akuma/E.Ryu have less life/stun. He does little damage and builds meter slowly, wich you need for his awesome supers and for ex gekiro, so it's one or another. But he has awesome pokes and crossups, a good walking speed and throw and tricky jumps. As for execution, well you need to piano hands, cancel into super consistently and change between stances a lot. But I feel the inclusion of his target combos in AE made life a lot easier to people like me who can't do links consistently, so definitely give him a try, he's really fun.
Regarding bad matchups Guile definitely is a pain. The one I have most problems with is Bison, but that's probably just me because I do poorly against Bipsons with every character I play lol.
man ive looked all over youtube and i didnt see amiyu lose once.its a shame he doesnt come to america to play i would love to see how he plays the pros here
@18
Gen doing little damage is a myth and I'm getting sick and tired of people thinking Gen has little damage output.
Yes he might not have the best, but really compared to some top players he's not far behind and makes up for missing out on 5 to about 80 damage or more depending on the character with other things. Like better pokes. Better AA's.
Gen - c.Short, c.Jab, TC2, LK Gekiro - 210 Damage / 313 Stun
Gen - s.Strong, TC2, LK Gekiro - 249 Damage / 356 Stun
Gen - s.Strong, s.Forward, LK Gekiro - 223 Damage / 289 Stun
Yun - c.Strong, c.Strong, MP Lunge Punch - 208 Damage / 320 Stun
Yun - c.Short, c.Short, s.Jab, s.Strong, MK Dragon Kicks - 169 Damage / 286 Stun
Yun - c.Strong, c. Strong, s.Strong HK Dragon Kicks - 258 damage/404 stun
Ryu - c.Strong, s.Fierce, Tatus - 246 Damage / 460 Stun
Ryu - c.Short, c.Jab, c.Fierce, HP SRK - 227 Damage / 400 Stun
E.Honda - c.Jab, HP Hands, s.Round House - 225 Damage / 310 Stun
E.Honda - c.Forward, HP Hands, s.Round House - 265 Damage / 360 Stun
Akuma - c.Strong, s. Fierce, LK Tatsu, HP SRK - 321 Damage / 445 Stun
As you can see Gen really isn't that behind. when it comes to combo starters from the ground. Besides Akuma. But Akuma has reasons to be that high. Personally I think Gen's output is where it should be. I wish his Stun factor was higher when he does his FADC combos.
Gen - Crane j.Fierce, Mantis s.Strong, TC2, LK Gekiro - 325 Damage / 513 Stun
E.Honda - j.Fierce, c.Forward, HP Hands, s.Round House - 334 Damage / 517 Stun
Not that far off again and Honda is considered to be one of the biggest heavy hitters. You always hear people say "look at the damage" when Honda lands his hands combos.. well look at Gens.
I really hope people stop thinking Gen has such poor damage output.
So not far behind but obviously behind most of the cast. That's the definition of doing "little damage" in my opinion, just being below the average damage/stun output. Maybe the problem is you have to land six combos to kill but recieve four to be nearly dead, and that gives the impression you do little damage when in fact is just that you have less life.
