The full interview with Namco's Katsuhiro Harada was posted today on Gamasutra. One of the notable details from the piece is that Tekken X Street Fighter could be on the next generation of Sony's console hardware. Harada stated that:
A good example of this is Tekken Tag Tournament, the first one. When it first came out in the arcades, it was originally based on PlayStation 1 hardware, obviously. But as we were working on the consumer port for the consoles, Sony came in and said, "We have the next PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, that's going to come out."
So we had to reevaluate our plan at that time. We knew that we wanted to make Tag 1, but now we have this new hardware, and the new base of players that we wanted to aim at. And what we want to do with the game itself, we have to reevaluate the specs, because the capabilities of the hardware changes, and such. So that was one example from the past, and it continues today.
For example, [Capcom producer Yoshinori] Ono-san's team is working on Street Fighter X Tekken. We have our Tekken X Street Fighter that we will be doing here. Currently I'm thinking of that for PlayStation 3 hardware, and this is just a "for instance" -- I mean, it's not like we have any kind of info that you don't -- but if Sony were to say, "Okay, we have the next PlayStation hardware available," then obviously we would put that into consideration.
This isn't too much of a stretch, as back in May it was reported that development on Tekken X Street Fighter hadn't even started yet.
Namco currently has many projects on their plate, and with no firm release date, Tekken X Street Fighter's official unveiling could be a ways off.
So we have to wait even longer for the obviously better game now? -_-'
Dang it I want this game I have always been more of a SF fan but when I saw the pic of tekken ryu it was over with
I imagine Tekken Tag 2 eating up their time. As soon as that is out, is when they will make some real progress on it. It's starting to look like an early 2013 release for TxSF
Either way, it's kinda better this way. It's best to space out fighting games rather than line them up too closely.
Well in case of next gen console, i'll just wait for the game called Extreme Street Fighter X Tekken: Fate of Fans' Money. Features new game balance, nerfs & buffs, new DLC characters & stages which costs $3.99 for nes DLC characters and $0.99 for DLC new stages. Two thumbs up if some of you concur. :/
Sadly I agree with #8.
And while Tekken is a pretty cool game, it's only topped SF one time in it existence... The EX series. Tekken owns the 3D world, no doubt.
But in terms of Best Overall Fighter/Fighter series... Tekken licks SF's boots.
Tekken is cool, but it's SF 4 Life!
I personally doubt there will even be a TxSF in the end.
guys, they have not yet confirmed that this game will be delayed. it is still set to release in March 2012. But IF they do delay it, that well... would obviously suck.
i have not heard anything about a PS4 at all, so i imagine they wont delay it since a new system has to be announced first. then, it takes months if not a year or two to release. i seriously doubt we will be getting a new system by march.
@ #17
What are you talking about? There is no talk of the game being delayed and TxSF is definitely NOT coming out in March anyway.
PC FTW
*upgrades video card*
Next gen hardware...boom, done.
@17 Another "title commenter".
Why not read the article before you start typing. Seems like 50% of people here only read titles before they comment on an article.
Lol to all the idiots who say 'wow look at the 2 early models for a game that isn't even in production yet, that games gonna be way better!' this guy isn't even nearly the first one to say that either lol. Sf x t is gonna be bomb. Whether or not pandora makes the cut, nobodies gonna use it anyway, so no worries about that, and I honestly believe the gem system is gonna be dope too. Capcom is by far the best game producing company in the world, and I stand by that statement. Oh and btw, all the people who are saying that they're now not gonna buy this game because of whatever reason, you know 2 days after its released your gonna see a friend playing it and go out and buy it.
P.s. eventhubs is not a Facebook status, nobody actually cares about whether you say your gonna buy the game or not.
Capcom ftw
@12
There are many rumors that both PS4 and next gen Xbox will be revealed in E3 2012, I can easily see that happening with a release date for both consoles sometime in 2013. Most consoles age anywhere between 5-7 years so it's about time.
@19
Get by bottlenecked by the CPU and boom you gotta change your motherboard/ram/cpu too.
(NAMCO Version)Tekken X Street Fighter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Capcom Version)Street Fighter X Tekken.
@25
Capcom ? Better than Nintendo ? *Laugh's out living room window*.
Get real.
@15
Don't ever talk sh_t about the Ex series again. Ex+@ was one of the best SF games. Was way ahead of its time and a complete game unlike sf4 garbage. Oh an by the way just look at all the game mechanics sh_t fu_ker 4 stole from Ex.
Back on topic. TKxSF honestly I wouldn't mind waiting. It will only improve the final product. Unlike crapcom rushing everything out and making a lousy game where they just nickel and dime the fans.
@29
Any version of Tekken blows the EX series up. Capcom's lame attempt to enter 3D fighting.
Good or Bad.... The EX series shouldn't have been called Street Fighter.
SF4 owns EX because of the 2D plane alone. And I don't care for all of my fighters to look like Dural from Virtua Fighter!
Ok boss. The game blew Donkey Balls.
Ex series was the closest to Tekken quality SF will ever be. Unique character themes, stages, moves, 3d models with pre-rendered backgrounds, an instant replay, new gameplay mechanics. 2D plane alone? you never played Ex did you. Only characters with ashura warps moved in the 3D plane when they used that move. SF4 stole so many mechanics from EX. 3D models on 2D planes, camera angles shifting for certain moves, FADC, cancelling moves and not having to link them, focus crumple with unique animations, ultra combos, trial mode. You must be joking the game came out in the 90s and you want to bash on the graphics.
there is something strange gng on
maybe namco isnt gng with the project
I'll have to agree with #32, EX2+ was the best in the EX series imo, graphics aside it was fun to play, most ppl did not look pass that, they did not accept SF changing so radically, same thing happened with SF3.
#26 Said the exact same thing I was going to say, next gen will come out 2012-2013, Nintendo already started with WiiU but I get the feeling Namco is dragging their feet with this game on purpose as if they are feeling pressured to do well.
@32
Sorry Chief. During the EX generation I was too busy with SF Alpha series and SF3 series to be bothered by a poorly executed attempt at a 2.5D SF game.
I played them. And they seemed like a joke. I kicked them to the curb and played some real SF.
And yeah, I'm going to BASH the way those piece of crap games looked! Maybe you've never looked at TTT which was also a PS2 launch title! It Kills EX in every way imaginable! And I'm not even a Tekken fan!!!
It's hilarious. I'm the biggest SF fanboy on planet earth. I've played every game in every series. Yet I (and 90% of the community) just pick EX out of a hat to not like? No! The game looked and played weird!
And I'm not a graphics whore either. But SF (To me) is Art in motion. And the Capcom team skipped the "Art" portion of the game to rush out a SF launch series the looked like $hit squared!
EX may have had some solid elements. But overall it was a poorly executed game. I'm glad that any positive elements from EX have since been perfected in the 4 series. You must be very happy about that.
IMO, four takes the best from all the SF series and makes them it's own.
I think this would be best if the next gen of consoles will be out by 2013--let's say Q4 2012. If MSFT is trying to be the first out again, I don't think Sony will be 12 mos late to the party again, they will rush as well. Besides, the console VG industry is a cartel, so I'm sure they all have an agreement on the rough period that a generation should last and start. Unless, the next gen won't be an exponential hardware jump.
The ex series was hot! Ex 1 especially, it wud be great if we can see some of these characters come back nd enter the new world of street fighter. Characters like doctrine dark, Garuda, kairi, Blair, hokuto, cracker jack, skullomania and Allen.. for those who know wat I am talking about that wud be great.. I think sf5 shud hav I gigantic roster, maybe all characters from all games.. that wud be the perfect anniversary game for SF.
Harada's team has the challange of making SF characters work in a Tekken enviorment, thats gonna be difficult and I would expect such a process would take a long time. Also they have their hands full on a ton of projects now. Tekken Tag 2, Tekken 7, and Soul Calibur 5. Then they have TxSF.I would expect a long time before they release a TxSF.
i dont know if Harada is envolved with Soul Calibur. and i also dont know if they are doing T7, although i hope so.
as for the SF is better than T, or T is better than SF.... serious?
totally different, being a better overall game? why? it just has a larger fanbase, or is more known due to the fact that it is way older, everybody play it on the arcades, everyone knew SF back then.
not to directly compare, but i see that as saying CoD is overall better than BF because it sells more, or Justin Bieber being a 5 star singer because he sells so much.
i like both game, prefer Tekken my self, but i wont say its a better game overall.
and btw, #20 ill say it again just for you, it has always been more popular due to the initial boom, an iconic shoryuken and that they managed not to screw it up over time. and the unpronounceable stupidity you mention it stupid... there is nothing to pronounce, or would you have it them yelling "JUMP KICK!" every time they do one?
also it IS unfair saying it will be a better game, when you dont have a clue about how its gonna be. the moment people see a slow hadouken, or a tatsumaki that does not track like they want, or a houkyokusen taking to long to finish rage will ensue again...
dont forget that they have a butt load of challenge here. they cant just bring 2D chars to 3D, or change them to much, or change T characters like that, because it would piss the Tekken fanbase.
Capcom has done tons of gamins, so them changing mechanics completely is nothing much, and the way T characters are in 2D plane is nothing different than expected, what could they do? although as i said they dont feel as T characters for me, dont seem to feel like it.
@35 The SF EX series was made by Arika and the members from that company came from Capcom, in fact the owner help made SF2, so as a send off they soft of collaborated to make the EX games. Even though they are close companies the new characters in those games belong to Arika and they won't let anyone use them unless it's a collab.. most of what was new in the game was Arika's ideas.
If you're talking about capcom's first 3d type fighter that would probably be Rival Schools which was an amazing game also in it's own right. Graphics were horrible but it was great to play.
I never liked Tekken because of their awkward move set commands, the real art in fighting games is to know when and where to use your moves not to memorize confusing stuff, guile on the other hand is simple to play with his 2 moves and easy commands.
Gon nude.
