UPDATED: Zhi has posted some more match statistics.I'm down with Akuma/Ryu, I love Daigo's Shotos.....or the Shotos' Daigo. >_>
Want to see the matches, could it be daigo just turtled the matches with ryu? That's what I love about street fighter 4 no matter the awesome system for combo resets, his impeccable execution or the sweet focus system just plant urself and footsie all day. Way fun.
And b4 I get flamed for that comment watch daigo use Akuma that's like pouring piss in my eyes. Great game but the evolution of this game boils down to footsies and 3-4 hit links. Wanting this sf2 era to end so badly, bring on sfxtk please!
yo IYO! havent seen footage of him since 0ShinAkuma0 but clearly hes been doing good. his name was always high on the arcade leader boards. did ibuki get any notable buffs?
@15
because, E.Ryu can't win the tourney... too many bad matchup.
more information on today's final results.
Daigo(Ryu) ●○○○○●○○●○○●●○ 9
Kazunoko(Seth) ○●●●●○●●○●●○○● 5
Iyo(Ibuki) 10
Kazunoko(Seth) 6
well lets see... he beat Kazunoko's Seth with Ryu and Iyo gave Kazunoko trouble with Ibuki. theres two logical reasons:
1) Kazunoko has a hard time with Ryu and Ibuki (doubt it, but possible). or.
2) Daigos Akuma is ass.
ive seen Daigos Akuma, and he tries to mimic Momochis Akuma in Vanilla. but he does ground fireballs too much instead of zoning with air fireballs. hes trying to fit Ryus play style with Akuma, and maybe thats why he beat Kazunoko with Ryu and not Akuma.
Daigo... you were born to play Ryu. Just do it.
Akuma may be even better at playing Ryu's game in AE2011, considering his walk speed and sweep.. Hopefully 2012 gets Ryu back on track :)
AE 2012: Counterpick Edition
^ I have no problems with this.
To be fair, almost every single fighting game is won with footsies and fundamentals. I bet that Daigo is having a hard time adjusting to Akuma having less life and stun. Ryu can make a couple of mistakes with spacing and eat those combos, whereas Akuma can't and you have to change your play style accordingly to compensate.
@8 footsies take more skill than execution. Anyone I mean anyone can have good execution with enough training mode. Not everyone will be able to develop good footsies though.
My body is so ready for 2012 edition it is untrue!!!
YEAH!!!!!11!!!!1!!!!!!
I guess the reason why Daigo´s Ryu did beat destroy Kazunokos Seth is partly about the matchup and partly about Daigo being an experienced Ryu player (but his Akuma is also awesome).
Here are some facts for the Akuma/Seth matchup, and why it may give Daigo trouble:
- Seth can punish Akumas teleports (U1)
- Seth can punish Akumas Air Fireballs (Ultra 1 or Spin Kicks)
- Seth can teleport himself out of Akuma´s Vortex
- Seth stuns Akuma easially
- Akuma has low health
@36
-Anyone can punish Akuma's teleports with option select.
-Anyone can punish Akuma's air fireballs.
-Akuma can option select if Seth teleport, with U1, or tetsu
-Every character stuns Akuma easily
-Akuma has low health, just how he is with all the good stuff going for him, so I guess its balanced.
Anyway, my conclusion is that its not a really bad match up for Akuma.
@Everyone wishing Daigo will return to Ryu.
Lmfao! After three years of TOTAL HATE he finally switched characters. After three years of TOTAL HATE they Nerfed the crap out of Ryu!
"He was sooooo Boring with Ryu!".... Remember? You couldn't read a Daigo/Ryu article without 95 posters saying how "Lame and Boring" his choice of character was!
Now the community begs for his Nerfs to be reversed and Daigo to go back to Maining him!!!
What a joke.
@#28
That's true man and this problem applies to me. I know almost everything with Akuma (vortex, combos, mix ups, some unblockables, etc) but i suck playing footsies. I think that I need someone to teach me footsies because my friends in Xbox live are a bunch of dicks.
Ryu's H-DP cannot FADC and reduce to 1 hit, Daigo did say it's pointless change in NBS interview before, he feels Ryu not good enough for ver. 2012
"@Daigo's game with Gouki has no vortex whatsoever. He plays it like it's Ryu with an air fireball and crouching short Ashura U2.
You can't win not using a character's best tools (even if nerfed in 2k12), Ryu is a far better fit for him imho. "
i don't know about that. Without Daigo's akuma. Team Madcatz wouldn't win at nsb X madcatz. He beats players with akuma that tokido can't beat.
@43 Not everyone goes through that. I've been a Daigo fan since Alpha 3, it was alway interesting watching him play Guy, but his Ryu has become trademark, when I heard he was dropping Ryu my jaw literally dropped.
If anything I'm praying he picks Ryu up, and if he has to, alternate between the two shotos. His Akuma has even beat players Tokido has trouble beating.
I don't know why, but I love seeing Daigo using Ryu. Yes, I know 90% of people online use him, but with Daigo it seems so different. Him and the character are much alike and I feel like if you have a bond with a certain character in any game you would be much better with that character. I feel like that with Abel. It sounds weird, but it's something that makes sense to me.
I really feel bad to say this, but perhaps this is the beginning of Umehara's fall...
Even though he won some matches with Ryu, it won't be enough to pull off a major tournament as Ryu is far from being overpowered and has tons of even and bad matchups...Kazunoko is dominating Daigo for a while and unfortunately as it seems he will continue to do so...seth is kind of character who is nightmare is right hands...
Daigo's akuma is not in the league of Tokido/Momochi/Eita/Infiltration...And in 2012edition there is no yun/yang/fei for such top players to rely on for a better chance of win...
Even though Daigo plays 24/7, 363 days a year, and as a result his execution is top notch, he is 30 year old and simply put he doesn't have the reaction time of an 18 year old...he is facing resistance from younger players with the talent gap being getting shorter day-by-day.
In the beginning, like couple of years ago, the competition for gaming tournaments was high...but in today's scenario it has reached a much fierce level with new player with some innate ability coming forward every now and then...
Even so, I really hope that Daigo manages to prevail suppressing the adversaries...
I wonder will he go back to ryu now or just switch between ryu/akuma
