New game, new Spidey, and a whole lot of stuff to discover. Starting off with some basic combos to get everyone started. Spidey's new OTG makes for good assist setups in the corner as well as midscreen. In my opinion he's better now that he has more options other than the same old web throw loops.

Basic my Green butt!
Not even JW can do these in a tournament!
He doesn't do damage and his mobility still doesn't make him as good as other rushdown characters.
What happens if you caught your opponent off the ground a little bit with one of these? Combo doesn't work. Or if you started the combo a few inches further away from your opponent? Combo doesn't work.
That's Spidey's problem. Low hitstun. Low range/priority. All high/low mixup. The only thing he actually gained in Ultimate to let him compete with the better characters is combos off air throws--hard combos that don't work if you can't throw your opponent a certain distance.
He's cool. He's fun. But there's no reason to play him :(
Spiderman isn't near as good as he was (He used to get 1,000,000+ damage easy and have safe air dashes), but he's way more fun now. You don't just swing around and go for his glitchy high damage web throw combos anymore. Now you have to be creative and play more like Spidey actually would fight.
This was a great video.
I'm liking the technology. All the Spidey doubters need to wake up. Every single move spidey has, except web throw, is safe now because he can cancel it into web zip and web zip = safe. If you actually play Spidey for a little while and put some work into him, you'd realize that his combos aren't that hard to pull off. No tiger knee motions, no rekka motions, his timing's just a bit different from most of the "easy" characters.
His main issue as I see it is, like Wesker, he' can't control the opposing top corner of the screen and typically needs a good assist to keep people from laming around up there.
Spidey also tends to randomly cross people up a lot in his combos so you also have to be aware of what side you're on with spidey at all times.
can an actual spiderman player tell me these are basic? everyone makes them look complex as if basic is a sarcastic word to use but they just look more fast than actually hard to do. but im not a spidey player so someone please fill me in
If these are basic what are Wesker and Wolverine's combos called?
@Icytor
which is what you end up doing most of the time if you want to confirm combos off the majority of hits.
Also half the time Spider-Man crossups leave you too far away from your opponent to capitalize because the dude has so much momentum all the time.
I believe in Spidey just like I believed in C.Viper when the game first came out. They just seemed to be very time consuming in comparison to other characters. (Ex:Wesker, Wolverine, Phoenix etc) I don't blame people for not using them very much, but I believe that if some people devote to him, they can possibly do to Spider-Man what MarlinPie did with C.Viper. Maybe not as good, but still very effective. Btw is Doom still like a "bff" assist to Spider-Man?
Xero has some innate property that makes these combos and tech findings just come to him when he's around these games. His "Spidey and his Amazing Friends" combo video got me back into Marvel after I dropped it when I was salty over X-Factor cheese and Spidey being "bad."
i need to know one thing. how easy are these to do in a real match? because i kind of suck at marvel, i used to do simple with spider-man because i love him, but now im doing normal, with phoenix wright frank, and some stupid random character. i wan to get good with spider-man like how good i was in simple mode with him, also, how do you do a shoryuken motion sucessfully?
Spiderman is one of those characters that makes you feel somewhat accomplished if you invest your time with him to learn his mechanics by executing is attacks in a fluid motion. Playing as wolverine, weaker, Virgil and etc didn't feel fun and it's lame to have to conform to meta characters if you want to be competive. Better to pick a favorite character you like and attempt to master him/her then simply going for tiers list toppies ( btw I'm not a casual player it just starts getting stale seeing literally same teams when I fight online that it feels that people lost sight of what this game was meant to be) anyway I digress, btw in games that has a more competive aspect such as SSIV AE I would understand people picking the china dudes if that's what it takes to win ( I main cammy) but in a game like MVC not so much since it defeated the point of a fan service crossover game so bravo on those trying to master spiderman and other underappreciated characters for the sake of keeping things fresh over going or easy unsatisfying victories.
"Basic." Right Xero.
