God's Beard on the NeoGAF forums posted an interview with Seth Killian. The topics covered here are pretty board, touching on Capcom's upcoming fighting games and some of their current ones, but it's a solid read, offering a bit of behind the scenes insight and a few other random fun facts. Here's a snip.
[Speaking of Marvel vs. Capcom 3] I know that earlier in the year you were asking the community what their opinions on top tiers were, what were Capcom's internal top 5 characters?
I was mostly just talking with some old friends rather than trying to conduct some kind of secret poll, but Capcom generally stays away from discussing that kind of thing because it makes people think there's some law or absolute reality to a tier list "because Capcom said so." Even if we did say exactly what we thought, it's only our opinion and everyone else is playing the same game. Pre release, of course we balance against our internal views with some input from location tests. After release, we balance considering the same tournament results the rest of the community is seeing. In terms of the top tier, my feeling is that the community and Capcom's internal perspective are pretty close.
Tip from KerrangCL.
I never read interviews from Seth because he never answers anything honestly. Everything is a PR safe answer, which is understandable given his position at Capcom and all.
Still doesn't make his interviews worth reading though.
Wouldn't Wesker be under Dante? I mean, Wesker is really good, but one thing he doesn't have is the ability to prolong combos for as long as most other top tier chars, and his hyper can be really bad depending on where on the screen the opponent is. Not saying Wesker is bad though, he's a beast.
#5 thats a bad reason TBH comparing combo length. Wesker does as much or more DMG than Dante EASIER + He builds MORE bar for it as well, so in that sense he'd be better.
Idk Dantes full potential since he got so much going on. Id say he has the potential to be ontop of Wesker though, they are both beast, Wesker way easier to use, also has insane resets 50/50's, and a great air throw, and quick amazing normals. I really dont know
I don't think anyone can win without a teleport character on their team. I was playing againts a guy the other night who had Deadpool, Doom, and Sentinel and all he did was play lame. Very difficult to get inside, without someone to get past that BS, it's very difficult for rushdown characters to get in and mix it up. One reason I can't wait to get Strange on my team.
#12 if you think its tough to get in on keep away in mvc3. Your going to have a tough time in umvc3. The game is being rebalanced in the favor of keep away. Dr. Strange may help with his fast teleport, but 1 combo and he is done.

Seth is usually a pretty straight shooter when being interviewed. Obviously there will be things he can't directly comment on, but for the most part he doesn't beat around the bush with his answers. If you actually bothered to take a minute to read his interviews, you'd know this. He gave some pretty meaningful answers in the NeoGAF interview.
And for those crying because he didn't reveal what Capcom perceives the top tier to be, take a moment to consider his response. It makes perfect sense that Capcom wouldn't publicly list their tiers because like he said, there will be people who will then want to take those tier lists as being "set in stone" by Capcom.
And that would only create more whiners and cry babies, and nobody wants to see that.
@12
That's not true at all. There are plenty of pros out there that don't rely on teleports to win, like Combofiend and Justin Wong for example.
Rushdown characters dominate this game in its current state, so if you're having trouble against someone abusing Deadpool's teleport (which isn't even a good teleport), you might wanna rethink your strategy about approaching people that play lame like that, instead of just getting frustrated and waiting for a new character as a solution.
What's your current team setup, if you don't mind me asking?
Smooth move Seth, the community will go apesh*it and think your decision is the exact tiers. Everyones opinion is different so just let flow by itself.
@SnakeX
I completly agree with you, people act as if they only have 1 team for all occasions, I have many teams, some just for creativity and some for different uses.
Someone keeps teleporting? I use either Joe or Modok to catch them.
The new characters, are as seth said, to bring a new and unique styles of fighting like Firebrand flying,swooping and shooting, Nemsis being a Huge guy with long reach moves and attacks, and who knows what else with the soon to be revealed characters.
Deadpool's teleport is actually pretty damn fast. It's the fact that it hurts you is bad.
@19
Yeah, Deadpool's teleport is fast and definitely has its uses. However, because it fails every third teleport attempt, it really limits it from being used reliably since you're basically being punished for teleporting too often...which isn't actually that often when every third attempt results in Deadpool hurting himself.
I'd like it if Capcom tweaked it in UMvC3 so he blew up every 5 attempts or so instead. That way, the teleport would keep its comedy factor while also being a bit more reliable as a mixup and escape tool.

"The topics covered are pretty board." Yep, they're board all right.
Hey SnakeX, I was playing Task,Hsien Ko, and Shuma, i've got to 3rd Lord now but now I hit this slump where I just can't get further. Im thinking of replacing one of my characters with Dante since I was playing around with him but not sure. I know the team is unusual but I was looking for anything but Sentinel on my team.
Reason for Dante is because im starting to feel Hsien Ko and Shuma Drag my team. I have gotten a good grasp on Task master but he damn there carries the whole team so it's a bit taxing.
wesker is definately higher than dante in the list. dante only teleports behind you while wesker has 3 variations and can do them in the air. his normals are ridiculous, his fierce in the after after teleporting has so much priority beats almost anything that doesnt have armor and his level 3 with xfactor takes off o much life. yeah wesker is pretty up there!
@28 Umm I care I actually play more fighters than MvC3. SSFIV, MvC3, and of course getting back into SF3.
Kind of weried. after over 5 years of absense of playing SF3 in the arcades my parry and move commands is much better. Pretty cool.
@18 yeah, I was looking to change my team up anyways. I play with other teams too but I just don't like playing what a everyone else plays. I guess I like the challange which is why I punish myself with the ones that arent really strong. But since im higher in the ranking a bit, im running in to the serious ones so thats why I want to change up my team. But I love Taskmaster, and im starting to practice with Dante and see how he works with my team. Nice to have another character with a good dash. Hsien Ko and Shuma slow me down if I lose Tasky.
It's hard to believe much of what Seth says usually. I love his commentary and he's a good guy but I mean, I just can't believe the opinions are close. Other than knowing how good Phoenix can be, I think they slept on a LOT of the cast in terms of knowing how good they can be. In my opinion, I think this is his nice way of dodging the fact that they had no idea what the tier list would be like upon release. (Which is okay, I'd rather they just say that >.>)
Evaded the question through Seth mindf*ck.
