Arcade UFO's Ryan Harvey thought he noticed some input lag on the PlayStation 3 release of Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition and has been talking about his experiences on Twitter.
Ryan: We are playing the PS3 version of 3SO now and there is hella input lag :(. I really hope the 360 version is playable!
This is OFFLINE matches btw, not online. We also tried setting the GGPO delay option to "Zero".
What have your experiences been so far, have you seen any input lag? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Anyone know the characters for the trial version of the game?
Seth is a PSN fanboy so of course he'll deny it. (Source; Live streams, interviews)
I kid I kid. I know they are most likely sponsored and are biased cuzzzzz.
I hope not though, no matter what Console, fighting games need to be playable anywhere to strengthen the community!
Oh dear capcom <3. You never fail to deliver f***ups. <3
I spent about 2 hours paying 3SO today on PS3, and I will confirm there is extreme input lag online, totally noticable and a sht load of frames being skipped, at first I thought it was because the persons ping was bad, but after playing several people it really disgusted me. I decided to play offline and there is very little input lag. I played 3S on GGPO for awhile, and the online is totally off, nothing compared to the PC version. I'm sorry capcom and street fighter fans, I'm not bashing but I'm pointing out the obvious of this port over to the PS3. I really hope this gets patched and looked into. just my thoughts on what I experienced so far today.
Realistically, you will get used to it either way, so even if it's a big deal now, it won't be in a little bit. We've all learned to play SSF4 online.
@17 I'm sorry to here that there is noticeable input lag online :( . I'm glad I didn't buy it straight away. I won't be buying SFxT right away either. Capcom nether seem to get the online right with their fighting games except for the MvC2 rerelease. I hope they patch 3SO soon.
Yea everyone randomly wanted GGPO lol, but I remember there being some people explaining why GGPO just masks lag and makes it seem like there is no Lag, but the input delay is still there. Of course SRK banned all those people lol
Or I could be completely wrong and be talking out of my butt lol, but Ive seen many confirm the lag ATM so it must be GGPO or Sony, or a design screw up.
I hope everythings gonna be OK though, this did seem a bit to perfect to be true if you know wut I mean. Crazy fun new modes, amazing online, crazy offline/trails, crazy modes/tournaments, YOUTUBE Upload feature, original 3S stuff etc etc.
Gonna test it tomorrow on 360.
there's definitely input delay on my ps3, both offline and online, and online play on psn is laggy too! but so far... everything in the package are all good (extras, etc.), beastin' with Hugo online now (parry -> command throw) so nostalgic! luvin' this game now!
I certainly know that ps3 online is laggy as hell compare 360!
@33 we got asked for our experiences, and we posted them. If the game wasn't laggy in the first place we wouldn't have this problem. Go play kof 12 online, on a large Chinese off brand hd tv on a wireless controller with a gamecube to xbox adapter hooked up to a xbox to ps3 adapter with the slowest dsl connection available. Ok forgive me that was rude, I wouldn't wish that lag on anyone.
@33 the problem with PS3 is that their wireless sucks balls and everyone is to lazy to go direct so you get horrible online experiences. Where as xbox isnt so bad.
On another note there will always be lag online period there will be no way to get around that with the technology we have right now available to most consumers. Plus the USA were we live is big as hell so thats another problem, were are to spread out, unlike Japan were everyone lives a couple hours away from each-other.
you know xbox version will b fine thats why im gonna hold off an just get the xbox version, my PS3 is doing to much of a good job as a door stop to use it 4 anything eles and we all know ps3 online sucks balls just ps3 in general, games delevopers commented that the setup to convert games to ps is very bad and makes pure games were as it is very easy to develop 4 xbox so thats the problem
OMFG people still haven't figured it out yet. For the love of God 3rd Strike runs at 30FPS with no filler frames if you play it on an HDTV there is going to be input lag like every other games like Tekken 6. Just play on SDTV. I spent the day at my buddies and there is no input delay at all.
@53
This is such a great point raised. Using an HDMI connection DOES give some native lag as compared to other types of connections. I remember hearing about this from my old roommate who swore by VGA cable playing his 360 instead of HDMI because the few frames makes such a difference. Another reason the 360 may usually have less input lag is due to more users usi8ng component cables as opposed to HDMIs (though that's only my theory and can probably be debunked). But who knows. Someone needs to do a more scientific test than the ones out there for SF4 already. Those seem a tad bit inconclusive.
I made a video demonstrating online play on a T1 line in Japan, although over wireless, it lags not only online, but also in game due to the achievement bar and possibly because it's just a horrible port.

Tonight, I will also play it wired to show there's still lag. People complained to me because I played it on wireless calling me stupid, but all my other games play perfect wireless with only 4ms ping drop, as my router is close to my ps3.
Also, there's no monoral audio output for the true enthusiasts and the audio is so messed up that I do not even want to play it anymore.
@61:
To be honest, It's not just this game that has issues on the PS3 versions:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/208-fi...
Plus why in the hell would tournaments even use the PS3 versions of those games, knowing that they have issues to even begin with?
As i suspected, supercade had inut lag when playing online but not sure if not is almost the same as GGPO.
So i suspected 3S:OE to have almost the same input lag.
As for offline(after playing the demo) OE seems faster than the ps2 anniversary 3rd strike. So im assuming less input lag for OE? But i dont know if thats the case.
"Plus why in the hell would tournaments even use the PS3 versions of those games, knowing that they have issues to even begin with?"
Tournaments don't. Evo does.
Sony sponsors them so that's how it goes. Nearly every other tournament out there uses xbox.
ps3 version is laggy? Word? Mine was fine this evening. I'll try again in the AM.
David Sirlin, the game designer of Street Fighter II: HD Remix, and top 8 finisher at EVO 2k8 in HDR, commented that he noticed some gamebreaking irregularities in the PS3 version of HDR. He also commented that the Xbox version of the game doesn't have these issues.
He pretty much summarizes HDR's issues on PS3 by saying "...Evolution should really, really switch to Xbox 360 next year for HD Remix, MvC2, and basically everything it can."
@61
If the game is flawed, wtf you want us to do? No one is saying they don't like it. If the game is flawed, it's flawed. You expect us to enjoy a game that's flawed without reporting it so it can be fixed? That's like telling us to drive a car that's missing a wheel.
On my roommate's PS3 we're getting no lag, he's using a CRT monitor.
On my X360 which is connected through HDMI, I'm not getting any lag, and I was playing with my cousin who's another continent away.
Anyways, I'm going back to completing the character trials.
Okay, was just playing an online tournament now, and it was lagging. This is on the X360. After winning the tournament, it then froze the console, I had to reset it >.<
Funny thing is about you people that keep crying about ultimate vs games is you will still buy it.
Valid point!!! Maybe stop playing on your hdtv settings and go to a normal tv setting see how it goes!
It will be interesting going from Dreamcast 3rd Strike to this newer version. Other than laggy online connections I've never consciously noticed any lag on ps3 arcade mode etc.
There is definitely input lag. Setting GGPO to "0" did help alittle. I just don't recall SF3 combos ever being this difficult to time-out. Not a bad port overall. Just needs some tweaking, IMO. I did however, expect better than a Dreamcast conversion.
there is absolutely no input lag for me its working smooth as hell i think it really depends on your tv if it has game mode or something try turning it on cause mine works beautiful and no lag!!.
There's no input lag, don't listen to the guys at SRK. They complain about anything.
Online works fine as well, if I am able to do Ryu's forward strong to super link consistently. Then the game is running properly.
The only thing that bothers me is the sound effects they sound a little off.
I don't know what Ryan Harvey is smoking, but he might have serious problems with his setup it can either be the monitor/TV he's using or something wrong with his Ps3 controller ports. I can't see any serious input lag with the PS3 version OFFLINE.
And for the people who feel the game requires strict timing, yeah well this is 3rd Strike it doesn't have SF4's baby-mode input latency.
I've been playing the trial version and it plays fine offline.
Definitely seeing inconsistent reports as far as delay is concerned. I had input delay on the 360 version. All other fighters (including 2d fighters HDRemix, KOFXII, BB, etc) work absolutely perfectly with my current home setup, but someone suggested the game may be interpreting settings incorrectly with HDMI. If you're running HDMI from your console to your TV you may want to try something different. I haven't done so yet but it seems to have helped some people.
I was watching JR Rodriguez's (a 3rd Strike veteran) latest video of Akuma's trials and even he commented there was input delay.
