@3 Don't call Strange broken until the game actually comes out. They already hit Firebrand with the nerf stick, so what we see now doesn't necessarily mean that it is what we'll see when we play.
Having the fireballs track to the nearest glyph makes it worse than Mu's drive, because you can't set up the glyphs so that the fireball zigzags around the screen. It can only take the shortest, most linear path.
Strange has to throw out all 3 glyphs without any protection while he dose it so it'd be easy to get him
HOWEVER at level 4(3 glyphs) he gets a tracking beam that crumples,
Also the double bolt projectile can be snuffed out by a projectile just as powerful
so far I can't see much that's broken
He's going to be better than phoenix because of how bad she's getting nerfed in UMvC3.
Strange won't be top tier I can tell you that. He's got utility to him and if anything he may be a good false point character, someone to weaken his opponents before your "main" fighter comes out, I.E. Dante, Wesker, Ammy, something along those lines. Still I am worried about Rocket Racoon...a tiny Cable is gonna be a pain in the ass if that is the design they are gonna use with him.
Strange won't be a "false point" character his tools are just to good I mean he can reflect Hyper sentinel force? I didn't even think that counted as a beam.........
I really hope you guys arent comparing Strange to Phoenix....Wright? haha
I'm surprised that Dr. Strange doesn't have a ground dash. But then again, he doesn't need it when he's meant to be a tricky zoning character.
@11
Like ChunLi mentioned, it counters ANY kind of projectile attack, whether it's a fireball, beam, hyper, and so on. It's an incredibly dangerous hyper since it'll be impossible to out-zone him, chip him to death, or projectile spam him if he's got meter stocked since he'll punish the hell out of anyone trying to do that to him.
#10 - ton of people already think strange is gonna be top tier at very least judging by vids alone, I wouldn't be surprised. All over the internet & SRK. Dr. Strange has a lot of tools. flight, projectile beam, fastest teleport in the game, glyphs / traps, space control, uniqueness, etc... Sounds & look top tier !
To those hoping rocket racoon can X5 AVHB... yeah right, haha. That just screams BROKEN and unbalanced. Maybe 2 times, sounds kinda fair. Who knows. But yeah, character alone sounds cable-esque with beams, projectiles, zoning, etc.
@#16
Im gonna have to disagree with him having top tier status. Hes lacking one of the main things when it comes to offense or defense, the dashes, which he seems to dont have any. Couple with his teleports which is based on his opponent, i dont see how hes gonna be able to set up many of his moves when being pressured.
His counter doesnt work on lows, i dont see what he can do really to control his opponent once they are on him. As he cant just teleport and dash away as phoenix or dormammu may be able to do with the same styled teleports.
Not saying hes is gonna be bad or anything, but if the fast offensive nature of regular mvc3 carries over then i would put strange in the same boat as dormammu. Good and powerful but never get a chance to breathe.
Oh and about rocket racoon and 5x ahvb, Spencer is able to chain 4-5 bionic arms, modok able to chain together his supers, arthur, amatersatsu, sentinel, wolvy, doom... im sure there are more but all of them can empty out about 4-5 meters without xfactor in one combo. So rocket racoon doing it wouldnt make it BROKEN and unbalance as there are others in the game that can do it currently. And besides spending 5 meters to kill one person is a bit much seeing how this game work.
So if he comes around doing so let him waste all his meter killing one person or just end up having to deal with dr strange's counter hyper, harddrives, gamma crushes, get teleported on lol. This aint marvel2, this time around many teleporters and flight users and no free GUARD BREAKS on the person coming in to each 5x AHVB. Bring it on!
I agree with #17. I think most people are just playing sheep and following the crowd. If you think about it, no dash is pretty devastating. His teleports won't make him an Arthur, but since they are based around the opponent and since he doesn't have a dash to follow up they won't help in terms of keep away. If he tries to run with his fly command it will be too slow and remember that you have to unfly in order to block.
In terms of mix ups and damage, I can't tell for sure but it doesn't seem that high. His saving grace is that crumple command normal that lets him set up those glyphs. If it weren't for that you'd probably have to omit a hyper combo at the end in of a combo in order to get a hard knockdown. His mixups will be strong but if you do a teleport mix up you are now close to the opponent. A lot of characters have strong mix ups (Magneto) and they have the option to back of as well.
Most people are scared of the barrier, and I admit that it serves to protect assists, but you should just alter your gameplan and rushdown instead. (Unless your online, then random hypers are half your damage)
wow people see some cool things about a character and they say hes broken lol people relax games aint coming out for a few months... mark my words....ROCKET RACOON will be top tier watch. i hate to say it but it will happen. Strange is gonna be awesome to use his keep away is unique compared to the others
@16 seth said this is gonna be more of a zoning game than just rush down..that said by wolverine lmao
Strange is not op. He doesn't have the necessary tools to be "broken." No dashes means that he can't apply pressure with his magentoesque normal moves. Very little durability on his instant projectiles(lvl 1 without glyphs, a +s, etc) means it's rather difficult to zone out characters. Strange's method of setting out glyphs is similar to Mu's way of stacking liberation spells; which for the most part not very useful because it's punishable and difficult to utilize if the opponent rushes in or counters with hyper. His double laser special move (atk + s) seems only slightly useful and that's when you have meter. Otherwise it's very punishable. And even if Strange has meter, randomly using it as a way to bait out projectiles, assists etc is rather difficult because the opponent can super-jump or teleport towards Dr. Strange and punish him. His projectiles also don't deal a lot of damage. Similarly, his lvl 1 hypers also deals little damage. The start-up frames for a lot of his special moves and fierce normals also seems rather slow and have little durability; i.e. setting up glyphs etc. And like I stated earlier, without dashes Strange is not going to be able to apply pressure as well as Magneto or Doom. Magneto, who with both ground and air dash can rom or do ambiguous cross-ups. Doom, who can dash cancel and apply immense pressure; not to mention it can also be used to extend his combos. Magneto's magnetic disruptor has extremely fast start-up and some durability. Doom's plasma beam has slow start-up but it's one of the best projectile specials in the game because of the durability. I just don't see anything that Strange is strong at. His zoning game doesn't look that strong and not giving him dashes limit his offense as well. His overall damage output is low compared to someone like she-hulk. The reward for playing his difficult style compared to she-hulk is inefficient. So in a tournament setting, I doubt he's going to be used that much. At most, maybe like Mu.
Strange is gonna be fun to watch. level 3 beam causea crumple.
