Tip from ThroughSilence.
God Save the Air MPunch.
Trailer looks great. I hope the combo video has even better notations.

Agreed about Axe Kick being useless. Its HK version can be made overhead to allow for mind games without spending meter. Oni have such a tool, why shouldn't E. Ryu have that too?
@FADCTAUNT
- Has more options than regular ryu(HCF-fireball, dive kick, teleport, axe kick) and deals out more damage than regular ryu.
- Has a less aggressive move set than akuma, which is why he has more health.
- axe kick move can be used in combos that do a lot of damage and the ex version is an overhead.
Yeah...
Pessimism can be a bitch.
@Deadds
Actually I was wrong, Evil Ryu has the same health as Akuma making him even worse than I originally thought. Oh and he can't combo into sweep.
Axe kick can only be used in punish combos if I remember right and his options are poor after a light hurricane kick compared to Akuma. (no demonflip resets, no sweep)
Really he's a waste of a character spot, you could argue whether Ryu or Evil Ryu is better but either way he doesn't come close to Akuma... Capcom made a mistake.
At least Oni is different rather than like I say, a bad combination of two characters that isn't really better than either of them.
Hope there is way better stuff than that coming, everyone knows jump mp juggles to tons of stuff with e ryu, ryu and gouken. Also air tatsu juggles with tons of stuff with akuma and a little with ryu. Heres hoping for somethin not already known to the coomunity still to come. Lots of re-hashing in many combo vids lately. M y two cents and just plain reality.

I'm sure this is more about the presentation than what you know of the character.
This is by far the best combo video without lame music and nice presentation that I've ever seen and I'm sure most would agree.
There is but so many combos you can do, but limitless way to approach it.
Its good to know you know all these combos though. Great job on that.
@ #9
Gouken's j.MP is crap, it doesn't give the juggle state Ryu and Evil Ryu get. You got to make him it once in order to juggle, and even then his options far more limited compared to what the video by LoL showed.
@ 10
Ever heard about crouch tech traps? That thing is not useless, you just can't throw it there and hope it hits, you'll just get reversaled to death.
Evil Ryu has arguably the highest meterless damage in the game, and he actually stuns people (something which Akuma doesn't since Vanilla). His dashes are also better.
Sure Akuma is the better character, but he's not total garbage or bottom tier material, he just plays differently. Still, a waste of a slot, guess we all agree on that.
I saw this earlier cant wait for the whole video..
did you guys fought the Boss version of evil Ryu,
His teleport cancels into any attack,,,
It will be quite interesting if we can also do that,
even if its slow. like onis air dash to tatsumaki...
Cant wait for the patch..
Overall hes an awesome character if you think hes weak or not,
Still looks cool to me. specially when he using ultra2..
@16/Quezacoatl
FADCTAUNT sort of said it, but a punish combo is a combo intended to get the maximum amount of damage for your character. These combos are almost never practical outside of punishing something your opponent does however, since confirms aren't used.
@17/FADCTAUNT
Evil Ryu players were saying you can combo into St.HP from a jab, but it is a one frame link. From what I read, most would agree that even with the jab-Fierce link, the combo isn't very practical.
@18
If you watch Mr. Naps play E. Ryu. He does hit that link quite well. Of course with E. Ryu, your not gonna have much chances to score much knockdowns in my opinion to try that. But I do agree, he's much worse than Ryu and Akuma. It feels like he has lots of bad matchups.
You guys need to be more appreciative. Not everyone knows the fundamentals. We all probably have a friend of a friend who wants to play but get intimidated to start. I sent this tip in because I thought it would be a good opportunity for people who don't main E.Ryu to try to play him. At least in an online and arcade sense, no one uses him. So watching this might trigger some kind of hype/liking.
LordOfUltima has created awesomely useful and simple Akuma vids in the past. And I know he will for this E.Ryu one as well. Just my two cents. Don't hate, just trying to make the community grow so we see other members in the cast get played.
If you read the youtube comments he also talks about having too many options (Akuma) can sometimes be crippling. So depending on your play style, having less tools can still be good (Evil Ryu).
@FADCTAUNT
It's goes to show that someone that doesn't use the character doesn't really know much about him. Yes he can combo into sweep. It's character specific just like Akuma/Gouki.
(Dhalsim, Balrog, Cammy, Dee Jay, Rose)
i agree with #27. STFU if you dont know anything about the character other then online scrubs or rare tourney footage! I personally main E.Ryu and think he has alot of potential if put in the right hands.
His Ultras are both really useful, something akuma doesnt have, and his damage output is better than 95% of the cast. I can agree that his health is garbage but maybe it'll be fixed in the patch.
All in all, regardless of whether or not he is a useless slot or not, he is here to stay and i think he is better than alot of the new characters.
Also, if you anyone needs an evil ryu to body them let me know. XBL:jesuslovessatan
no pissy messages afterward either
Have to disagree with E.Ryu's potential. If damage and stun were all that mattered in this game, Dudley would be the best character by far. What's much more important is the ability to mix your opponent up and even more important than that is mixing your opponent up with changing directions than high-low . E.Ryu's mix-up potential is not much high-low and way worse than Akuma's when it comes to changing directions. Also, it seems like people think Akuma hits like a chump. He hits very very hard. The difference in combo damage between the two characters is not that much.
@31
Dudley isn't a good enough example, a lot of his mix up can be negated by back dashing on wake up. E Ryu is completely different and even more dangerous than Dudley 100% of the time. Dudley doesn't even have a natural cross up attack to start a combo off.
The key to much of Evil Ryu's mix up lies within his dive kick. It's not a case of high or low but front and back. He can also connect stand fierce comfortably off dive kick or cross up forward, so whatever the earlier poster said about it just being a punisher combo doesn't actually know enough about the character.
Akuma is definitely better still but Evil Ryu is hands down better than Ryu himself.
Maybe I didn't say it well enough, but that is exactly what I meant to say. This game is based on making your opponent block in different horizontal directions, not high-low. I understand that. I play Dudley and was a 3s player, which makes him infuriating to play in SF4. The fact that I have to work extremely hard to get people to sit still to even begin doing okizeme is frankly stupid. Back to the point though, E. Ryu doesn't have anywhere near the amount of mix-ups that Akuma has on wake-up in terms of cross-ups/ambiguous cross-ups.
