Makaveli2004 sent in an interesting piece of information where he goes over what is called GACHI in Japan, where top arcade players play in long sets against each other with an undetermined amount of matches set. Following these matches on this French blog which were translated from this Japanese Street Fighter news site has confirmed a number of matches being played and sheds a lot of light on the fights between top players.Pre-evo-2011. Daigo vs Kazunoko (Yun mirror) 7-Gachi summary
U : Umehara : 8, 31, 26, 26, 29, 2, 29 (151)
K : Kazunoko : 22, 31, 23, 25, 21, 0, 20 (142)
They are pretty competitive. Daigo had told Kazunoko before Evo that he would be going back to Ryu. (that has yet to hgappen). Maybe he will after Godsgarden were fans voted both of them to use Yun.
Check those links Nyoro embedded to find out how Poongko fared when he stopped by Japan on his way to Evo.
And Daigo going back to Ryu? That would be pretty awesome to see. I remember Ov3rheadGreg posted some matches where he used Ryu against Kazunoko. Apparently he thinks Ryu does well against the twins.
I'd love to watch the magic that is Daigo's Ryu (or Ryu's Daigo?) some more.
Everything is tentative until ver. 2012 rolls around. Daigo's Ryu was godly, and hopefully Ryu goes back to how he was before. In Japan, players usually get locked into a character in tournament, so counterpicking becomes pointless. I am still waiting for EVO Japan to happen so it can bring the "HYPE" to Japan.

I think you're right.

That seems like a possibility - but I don't think he's good enough with him (currently) to make up for the nerfs like Dieminion does.

Bullsh-t. Guile got nerfed to damnation??? I guess that's your eloquent way of saying that Guile is now balanced out and no longer OP the way he was back in Super.

According to Air, Daigo said that the Ryu vs Yun match up is in Ryu's favor. But he didn't say anything about Ryu also having a favorable match up against Yang.

Daigo should try Fei Long for a change. Fei Long in AE is like Ryu in Vanilla.
Back in days of Vanilla, Daigo said that Ryu was a better tournament character than Sagat because Ryu had no bad match ups in Vanilla, while Sagat did have a bad match up against Akuma. Note: Daigo was stricly talking about the Arcade version of Vanilla-sf4.
Fei Long is the same way in AE. Fei Long virtually has no bad match ups in AE. The only two characters that are probably bad match ups for Fei Long are Vega and Seth; but even if Vega and Seth are bad match ups for Fei, those matchups are 5.5 - 4.5 at most.
Good lord, how do these guys play for this long, these days, after an hour my head hurts, how they can even keep their concentration levels up after that long is remarkable!
If the info on Daigo is true, I'm all for it, his Yun was awesome but I don't really enjoy watching yun, his Ryu on the other hand was something outta this world, I almost always learned something new everytime I watched a match of his and this is coming from someone who doesn't enjoy watching Ryu matches because of how overused he is, not that I have a problem with that!

ryu did have bad match ups in vanilla , ex... dhalsim

No idea, Fei gained jab to sweep - but he could already combo close mp into sweep (which can be combo'd into by a jab). Plus Balrog took a couple of damage nerfs I think?
Fei also lost something that almost every Fei player would probably rather have over what he gained in AE - invincibility on HK chicken wing.
So it's probably now even when all's said and done.

I'm not really sure if Vanilla-Dhalsim was a bad match up for Vanilla-Ryu. I thought that the match up was a solid 5-5 back in Vanilla, but things got harder for Ryu during Super.

Nahhh. Daigo has spent too much time training with Yun. He looks way too bent out of shape when playing Ryu as can be seen in his videos vs Kazunoko.
Daigo should stick with Yun as his primary, but start learning a secondary character that is better in fighting against the following characters: Zangief, Hawk, Sagat, Rufus, Viper, and Seth.
Ryu offers no additional benefit to Daigo if used as a secondary.
Daigo should think about learning Yang as well. Yang's teleport allows him to more efficiently avoid Viper's burnkicks which Yun is very vulnerable to.
Yang also has much better footsies and defenses than Yun. Yang's better footsies and defenses gives him a much easier time shaking off aggressive Seth and Rufus than Yun can.
But then again, Yang probably wouldn't do much better than Yun when it comes to fighting Zangief, Hawk, or Sagat. So I don't know what Daigo may decided to do in the future.

It was hard as hell back then too.
Against a good sim (like FChamp), the damage difference is practically irrelevent in the matchup.
@ 27
Actually daigo should focus on some other characters rather than twins.
With 2012 patch, its a huge possibility that the twins will get nerfed badly. Feilong is a good option, but there are already gdlk feilongs such as mago or fuudo and I don't think daigo will be able to beat them in fei mirror matches.
Daigo has cards registered for Yun, Ken and Guile. All with 80%+ win rate.
If he opts for another char in AE2012, it might just be one of these. Seems like he hasn't played Ryu at all in the past year expect that exh against FChamp.
