Nova, from the Marvel universe, will be one of the characters added to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. A lot of people aren't highly familiar with this guy, but an anonymous reader pointed out that there's a free digital version of the Nova: Origin of Richard Rider #1 comic book.
Well being Dr Strange, Hawkeye, and Rocket Raccoon are all going to be featured in near-future Marvel movies, you can be sure Nova and Iron Fist are probably getting some kind of alternative media release sometime soon as well, and that's why Marvel picked their inclusion over other characters for this game. Gotta love the marketing machine just steaming right along.
Also does anyone else find the humor in the fact that Nova's real name is "Dick Rider."
Green lanterns limited by a ring and a defined power source that they has to say an oath to charge, Also all 4 earth Green Lantern have a different personality entirely. Also Nova's a teen or was in the beginning, also he's more wittier then the GLs, also the power set is different as GLs aren't stronger then their normal selves they can only use their power ring to make stuff. Also one big difference is the GLs use so much willpower it nearly caused Green arrow(Think batman but with a robin hood theme and not as brooding) to pass out after using it. While there are similarities (He got his powers from a dying alien and he's a part of a corp) i wouldn't call him a bootleg especially since the GLs are ripped from another property called "The Lensmen"
Nova is really a good fighter -- much better than I thought. and... I CAN'T WAIT to play him! But we feel that we have waited too long that 8 of the 12 new characters haven't been showed in gameplay videos because it's 3 months left before its release date. =/
God, I'm sick of people saying Rocket Raccoon is a waste before even seeing gameplay.
@3 I think Rocket Raccoon will be first for Marvel, just because of all the negative response he's been getting.
And Wright or Vergil for the Capcom side.
@12 - it's been a long-running joke among comic book readers. my comic book retailer friend even has a story about the time a stripper came into the shop just to pick up a Nova graphic novel because she couldn't believe there was actually a superhero named Dick Rider.

Bcos not only did capcom ruin the MvC series with MvC3 by adding xfactor and making it so scrub friendly. they also went and added loads of crappy characters no one really wants. just bcos Marvel want to promote there nobody characters, and capcom havent got the balls to say NO.
Hardly anyone even knows who Hawkeye, Nova and Iron Fist are. And even if you do, there not characters the fans want. Plus theres a reason most people dont know them. bcos there pretty dull.
There are so many other "cool" character they could have added. but noooo. Marvel are too busy thinking about promoting to care about the fan of the game, and what they want.
Marvel is just trying to cash in on unknown heroes. They wouldn't get any money by having other x-men, daredevil, Elektra, any of the fantastic 4, Green Goblin or anything really. If they promote unknown characters, chances are they will sell more comic books based on those. So yeah, it has nothing to do with game mechanics. Marvel just found a way to make more money off a game.
And btw I just read the entire comic. Its god awful. No originality at all.
@25.... I'm sure there are plenty of people that know who hawkeye is... Iron fist and Nova maybe not so much... but I'll reserve my judgement until I see some gameplay. Im sure they will all have unique play styles... but something tells me capcom will give them something to remind you of a character you wanted in the game. Like Rocket Racoon for example hes small and hes all about guns from what I've read, so who knows maybe there will be something in his moveset for all the people like myself that wanted megaman in the game... or cable even. you never know until you see them in action folks

Don't like MvC3, go back to playing MvC2. It apparently has everything YOU wanted.

This game is for Marvel fans, not the slobbering horde of Venom fanboys "cause he's all cool and badass and kills people." Most marvel fans that I know appreciate.. well, a whole lot of the heroes, sure there's always the one hero that makes you want to slap someone (lookin at you daredevil)
But all in all, Capcom have been adding a good and diverse cast of Marvel characters.
Not perfect though, I'd say they are lacking in villains and women.. Bring in Ms Marvel and Moonstone!
I dont get people complaining about the character roster of MVC3 and praising MVC2's roster. That game had fan favourites like Spiral, Marrow, Amingo and Bone Claw Wolverine right? Venom is not the same now, Gambit and Cyclops are not that popular. Whos familiar with Marvel comics knows Hawkeye, and Iron Fist is not that unknown either. I dont read mainstream marvel comics and I know about Nova too. These characters are not waste, and why is it bad if they want to promote their current characters? Just because you dont know them these characters will be fantastic in the game, and you may even like them because of their moveset, you may even get intereted in their comics. Thats why are they in UMVC3

Let me correct you. its not just me thats not happy with most of the new character choices. Most of the people that play MvC3 dont like the choices either.
I'll be sticking with SSF4AE, as its a much better game in EVERY way. and from the looks of it, SFxT will be miles better than uMvC3 aswell

Right on bro cause most of the people you know will probably have similar interests as you which is why they are also unhappy. But have you ever considered that there are other people in the world other than the 2-3 or so guys you know?
A large majority of fighting game fans only know about the old x-men and cartoon characters which is why they are so popular among sites like eventhubs and srk. However Marvel fans will actually know and like these new characters being brought in. But people are probably going to say something ignorant and continue to rant about something idiotic.

Its the MARVEL fans that are the unhappiest with the choices, me being one of them.
Ive also been a Marvel comics fan for over 20 years, and i look foward to any game that feature Marvel characters, but the latested additions are terrible. Hawkeye is probably the biggest name, and outside of the avengers, hes a nobody. the others are even worse. Characters like Venom, Doc Oc, Gambit etc have a much bigger fanbase than Nova, IronFist, Hawkeye etc. Its blatant promotion of nobodies on marvels part, and thats what i dont like. Listen to the fans 1st, then you can promote the crappy characters after

In the 616 main universe The Venom symbiote is now in the hands the U.S. military and is used by former jock turned amputee soldier Flash Thompson, Gambit is traveling with X-23, and Doc Ock is on life support. Most of the c-list mutants have been depowered, thanks to the House of M, and two of Wolverine's enemies are dead. Give some of the Marvel underdogs here their moments in the sun.

Actually, you clearly aren't a Marvel fan(And Nova was created before the 90's btw).
Nova is in because his last series was a hit and he is popular with the Hardcore comics fans.
Go to any comic forums and you'll see they are happy he(And the others) made it in.
The only people complaining either aren't comics fans or they only know Marvel characters from the cartoons. Either way, the choices are on the Marvel side are for the comic fans.
The Green Lantern is way more powerful then Nova it would be a good fight but none of novas attacks would be able to go thru Lanterns force fields plus Green lantern powers are way more stronger then Novas powers.
