1Up posted a question and answer session, along with a preview of Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, with the Capcom guys Seth Killian and Derek Neal.Yerffejk: Is there a quick rematch option in one of the lobbies? This was a feature lacking from every version of SF4, and I hated it. You did too.
Derek Neal: The player match mode has quick matches, but the winner stays and the loser rotates. So the next guy in the line will immediately come up and go again. In the offline local match mode, there's a quick rematch feature that lets you immediately play again with the same guy and the same characters if you want. We can't do that on online ranked mode, because then people could exploit the system and abuse it and stuff. Otherwise we'd have it there as well.
Seth Killian: But in a two person lobby you would be able to play with your buddy and go right back in there. Ranked mode or otherwise it would be like, "Hey, you don't care about your score in this game. Just let me have a perfect record of 8,000 wins and you have 8,000 loses."
Also, in page one of the preview they talk about some of the development decisions that were made with the game, in regards to not removing Urien's unblockable and keeping certain bugs. Here's a rip from that one.
There seriously needs to be unranked match making with the option to quick rematch in SSF4 just like Marvel 3. They NEED to put in in AE 2012 Edition. That wait time in between is responsible for more rage quits for me than anything else.
I really hope that Alpha 3 port comes to fruition soon. HD or not, I'm buyin' it day one!
@flysamurai,
Agreed. Alpha 3 (online) would be awesome. I still play that and Third Strike randomly on Supercade/GGPO.
In my books:
SF3
SSF4
SF2
Alpha Series
HD Remix.
~ The rest.
I can't wait for this to drop!
b happy until the game comes out and it becomes a yun/chun game again , y they couldn't buff the weak characters using 10 years of data while not touching the purist broke-back characters ?
"But in a two person lobby you would be able to play with your buddy and go right back in there." Holy s..? If so I will never stop playing it.
I really hope many people will buy it and the new ones that only know SF4/MvC3 too and see how great 3rd Strike is.
It wouldn't have online capabilities, though. It'd just be a port of the PS1 game, which is all fine and dandy, I already have Alpha 1 and 2 downloaded, but I'm sure random people on my PSN list like the Alpha series as well, and it'd be a blast to play against them.
"Don't fix bugs because it's a Mona Lisa painting". Erm, no it isn't. Software is dynamic and should evolve. The broken versions still exist if people want to play it (sounds like it was coded really poorly as well).
But who am I to talk, I'm not one of the fans I guess.
Patching stuff is fine for newer games that people expect to be patched, but when a game has been a certain way for 10 years it should be left pretty much alone.
Let's say AE2012 is the final version of SF4, it'd be pretty sucky for all of us who remember the game as it is now when it gets re-released 10 years later and stuff you knew now has gotten patched out.
It's just like the Mario walljump glitch. You don't patch that sort of stuff out. It might have started off as a bug, but its now part of the gameplay experience.
^^Why because they didn't change the stuff YOU personally wanted changed?
I haven't played HD Remix as extensively as I wanted but the fact it has HD Remix in the the title is a sign that yeah they actively changed what was otherwise bland about "A" certain version of the many versions of Street Fighter II.
I didn't care about Third Strike or SFIII in general when they launched in arcade, I don't care what they do with it now.
I only find their argument ridiculous when they gave the choice to play the original version of SFII Turbo or the Remix.
Capcom's PR is always a blast to see.
@Jerry
Alpha 3 has been "coming soon as a PS1 Classic" for roughly 2 years now. I would love to see Capcom give it the HDR/OE treatment. I think there was talk at EVO this year of Ono saying he wanted to do something along those lines.
