Tip from an anonymous reader.
There's a grandmaster for BLANKA (who's considered barely mid-tier), but not one for Cammy, who's supposed to be on par with Viper and Sagat.
Really makes you think...
/sign my main Chun-Li isn't even here. If I saw this list without knowing the whole cast I would say that this game has only 10 fighters wow.
@17 but im pretty sure that 20 out of 20 are actually pretty legimate in terms of skiils. This is Japan, this is not NA or Europe where normally top 20 are usually cheating boosters, they take games like religion over there.
Also If Yun is so OP (i'd agree he is OP however this is not proof) then why isnt every single slot in the top 20, pro or scrub now Yun.
@#20 and other complainers:
This is the last vanilla SF4 arcade rankings I saw:
01 (Sagat)
02 (Ryu)
03 (Sagat)
04 (Sagat)
05 (Gouki)
06 (someone)
07 (Gouki)
08 (Sagat)
09 (Sagat)
10 (someone)
11 (Sagat)
12 (Sagat)
13 (Sagat)
14 (Gouki)
15 (someone)
16 (Sagat)
17 (Sagat)
18 (Sagat)
19 (someone)
20 (Ryu)
21 (Sagat)
22 (Sagat)
23 (someone)
24 (Sagat)
25 (Ryu)
26 (Gouki)
27 (someone)
28 (Sagat)
29 (Sagat)
30 (Sagat)
So which one is more diverse? Anyone with a half-functioning brain should be able to tell.
Yun is top-tier. He's OP as well. But you people's pathetic whining is taking this to another level. I blame Ono for claiming he wanted to make him OP.
i only see daigo win tournaments with Yun. You guys can pick yun, i don't care. I don't complain. bring it.
Cool Iyo is rockin' dat Ibuki. Fuudo himself said he didn't really find anyone a treat, and he said ''When I look at the other top players im like..I can do that if I wanted;''
but the two players he said were different were Daigo + Iyo since he could not mimic those.
I realize arcade BP are much more easily gained and lost, but geez, I want to know how Kazunoko slowly gained on Daigo for a long time, passed him, and now in a matter of days Daigo is 30k ahead. Perhaps Daigo got angry after EVO and beat Kazunoko down in some mirror match sets?
Mehhh.
I wonder how Daigo would be if he chose to use Fei Long instead.
I don't even know why Daigo choosed Yun over Fei Long in the first place. Fei Long in AE is kind of like Ryu back in Vanilla, while Yun in AE is somewhat like Vanilla Sagat (With a greater number of bad match ups than Vanilla Sagat had though).
Back in Vanilla, Daigo said that Ryu was the better character to choose for tournament play because Ryu had no bad match ups back in Vanilla. Back in Vanilla, Daigo said that he did agree that Sagat may be listed higher on the tiers chart because Sagat had more match ups where he could just dominate the other character, the downside was that Vanilla-Sagat had a bad match up against Vanilla Akuma when it comes to the higher levels of gameplay. Daigo said that having less dominant match up but no bad match ups is actually better for tournament play than having more dominant match ups with the inclusion of bad match ups.
Same thing with Yun in AE. Daigo did show what Yun could do, but Daigo also got raped by Poongko's Seth which was a bad match up for Yun.
In my opinion, Daigo should stop focusing so much at maintaining the #1 spot in the arcades, and he should start learning another character so he can take on the characters that are bad match ups for Yun: Zangief, Hawk, Sagat, Viper, Rufus, Seth, and Ryu.
And from that list, it'll be wise for Daigo to start learning a character that does better than Yun when playing against Viper, Rufus, and Seth.
Same thing could be said for Kazunoko and MDR. These pros should start learning some one else to use when playing against Yun's bad match ups.
1) SF4 had a ton of Sagat players, but there were also only 16 characters to choose from. Now they have 39 in AE.
2) Why are people surprised at how much BP the top players have? Look at how much Mago had in Vanilla. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk6jRj...
I disagree with #36. You probably and hopefully know this already, but Japan is not nearly as big on tournaments as America. Tournaments with prize money don't really exist, (due in part to legal reasons) and there really aren't many prestigious tournaments outside of SBO, which like most (basically all?) Japanese tournaments, is character locked, so learning a secondary character won't help you there. Most Japanese tournaments are team tournaments, too, further decreasing the importance of playing more than one character.
Moreover, Daigo said back when vanilla came out in arcades that the card system was a big part of why he wanted to play SF4 hardcore, and I can certainly see why. To be the #1 ranked player in Japan and have your name and character be displayed full screen, sharing it with no one, at the top of the list that comes up first thing as soon as every single match played ends is some serious bragging rights.
For me personally, if I had to pick between winning EVO or being the #1 ranked player for a couple of years, it would be a close call. As big as EVO has gotten, especially with the streaming, it would be tough to turn that down, but Japanese arcades are THE ultimate battleground of SF. EVO is one weekend and your fate can be decided in two minutes even after making it all the way to top 8, whereas the BP rankings reflect not only the very highest level of play but also incredible consistency and dedication over many months. It's safe to say there are many more people who have a chance at winning EVO than there are people who could overtake Daigo in BP.
I'm also not a huge fan of counterpicking in general. I don't think Yun's supposedly bad (how bad, really? 5-5?) match-up with Seth had a whole lot to to with Poongko blowing him up. That happened because Daigo spent the first game mashing DP, which Poongko baited, and the second half blocking, when Poongko SPDed him. Daigo picked the best character in the game who has at worst one or two 4-6s and another few 5-5s, made it all the way to top 8 in winners' and lost to two of the best players in the world. It happens. Heck, maybe you are trolling me, but I personally think Daigo has his priorities and strategies figured out just fine and I think all of this was worth saying anyway.
@#22
Hey #22 I dont care who is top tier, nor is that the reason why I put up MY post, nor can you tell me what to post. So before you start acting like your my dad or a know it all make sure a.) maury says "you are the father" or b.)your statements accurately reflect my intent. I put it up because I thought it was funny. PERIOD. OH any btw your logic is off also you can compare the two sf4 had 19 people on its roster ssf4ae has 39 thats double the roster.
@37
I was never trying to say that Daigo will ever go back to Ryu in AE. Matter of fact, I think that it'll be too late for him to pick a different main character at this point in time.
In post #35, all I was doing was expressing my curiosity for why Daigo chose to main Yun over Fei Long in AE when it clearly went against his own philosophy of which what makes the best tournament character (Why he said that Vanilla-Ryu was a better character to use in tournaments than Vanilla-Sagat).
@42, you do make a good point about Fei Long - it's arguable that he's the more "solid" pick. But remember that at least 95% of players are terrified of Yun, and if Daigo's goal was to win/make money at American tournaments, picking Yun knowing most Americans would have little experience against high level Yuns was a pretty good move as even though he didn't win EVO, he took home a ton of cash from ReveLAations, NCR, and then the fourth place at EVO. Not a bad run...
@1
Iyo use to play Dhalsim and he was so dam good !! Check on youtube for vids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAMq3R...
nothing surprising. Ono "the biggest placenta-fagg0t" is responsible for all this so called balanced AE crap coz he's the one who wanted to D-ckride yun badly. therefore all we have is vanilla sagat back in form of yun.
Diago has to be one of the biggest tier whores ever. He wasted so much of his time playing other characters with almost no anti-yun tricks, that he not only failed to learn seth matchup but also neglected viper matchup. I loved the way he got raped by poongko.
And those who say that Akuma was a bad-matchup for vanilla sagat are wrong. Both akuma and dhalsim were an even matchup for him.
Has Iyo always played Ibuki since Super?
