Cross Counter has uploaded an interview with TH|Poongko after he placed third at EVO 2011. Check out their summary below.
Gootecks catches back up with Poongko after Evo to talk about his views on Daigo 'The Beast' Umehara and what he has done to train since the last interview at Shadowloo Showdown 2011. Poongko got third at Evo, but is not finished yet. He talks about his future in the fighting game scene, what tournaments he will be joining and what games he is looking forward to in the future.
That translator! Poongko says : "I spent the day thinking out how to deal with Daigo's Yun, but didn't think it would turn out so well."
Translator says: "it wasn't that hard"
Dayum.
#2 yeah agree on that,
lot of people notice that some of the translation is wrong,
Well iam no korean nor understand it,
But if your a translator Dont put words in somebody's mouth
People might have a different idea on his personality,,
Poongko just said in a nice way that Daigo was so free. Anyone else agree to that?
@5
Agreed. The match up is obviously in Seth's favor. The people who keeps peddling that it's either 5-5 or 6-4 in Yun's favor are obviously a bunch of ignorant scrubs or they are Yun-haters in denial.
Just examining Poongko's track record tells something about the Seth vs Yun match up being in Seth's favor. Poongko raped both Momochi and Daigo, two of the best Yun's in the world, but he lost to both Latif and Fuudo.
To say that Seth vs Yun is still an even match up is basically trying to say that both Daigo and Momochi are at a much lower level of professional gameplay than Poongko, Fuudo, and Latif. And I don't agree with that.
"Daigo was easy"
I guess he drank all that 1st to get ready to P on him aahahah
OK... Screw this translator. Either he doesn't understand Korean or doesn't speak English... or both. Poongko didn't say Daigo was easy but that Seth's match-up against Yun wasn't that hard. Here is what Poongko really said about Daigo's match up, "I think I got lucky, maybe luck. Seth's match up against Yun, strangely, isn't that hard. I thought about lots of strategies against Daigo all day, and I didn't expect it would work out that well." It exactly isn't verbatim but
Guys I speak Korean, the original translation is correct. The Daigo fanboys are doing damage control saying its wrong.
@11
dmg control isnt the word lol. Im glad he said that, he need more villians. It makes for more interesting matchs.
what he meant to say was i knew today was the day id give daigo and his yun a skirt to put on.....B$%THHHHHHHHH *Raises Korean flag* *Theme music plays* KOREAAA EFFFFF YEAAAA!!!!
Not to take away from Poongko's awesome play... Because it was awesome. But he did get 3rd right? Lol, I like how beating Daigo is the end all be all for these guys... But he's "free" right?
Daigo won Evo two years in a row. Poongko should try winning it ONCE before talking so much $hit.
He's good, yes. But let's see some results before riding his jock.
Momochi isnt the best Yun. maybe in 3rd Strike yes, but the two best Yuns out there would be Daigo and Kazunoko, AKA Inoue. i would def LOVE to see PoongKo play Kazunoko.
@17 There are two Kazunokos. The Yun player that is ahead in the leaderboards is a former Guilty Gear player.
@20
And other posters have said the translation is accurate you Fu<kin clown. As such, I have no choice but to believe the translator didn't just make up whatever he wanted!
Lmao, lol, omg, rotfl, you are sooo good at this text chat Ado! Go jump off of a building:) :P :^] <3
@21 LOL thats exactly what im saying, everyone is saying one thing or another so whats the point in making such presumptuous statements just listen to yourself you just made my argument
i dont get some people's logic it just makes no sense sometimes it just perplexes me so
and if anything, people on youtube are sayin its all wrong
The guy is there to TRANSLATE! Should we presume he doesn't speak Korean? Or English?
How does this change the fact that he finished 3rd not 1st and everyone is acting like he's a god?
I'll repeat, he did NOT win the tournament! His big achievement is that he beat Daigo.
@17
I completely agree with you when you say that you want to see Poongko play against Kazunoko. I surely hope we'll see that match up at SBO this year.
All I want is to see Poongko play Kazunoko BEFORE they nerf Yun. Right now, the Seth vs Yun match up is already in Seth's favor. Sure Yun has favorable matchups against many other characters, but Yun also has bad match ups with Seth being one of them.
This match up, which is already in Seth's favor, will only get worse for Yun after the patch because there have been hordes of crybabies whining about how Yun needs to be nerfed. But very few, if any players, have called for Seth to be nerfd as well. Such as toning down the high priority that Seth has in his DPs which lets him completely beat out Fei Long's DP without trading hits even when both characters do it at the same time.
Nerfing Yun's divekicks and toning down his offensive options while buffing Yun's defense and wake-up game will cause Yun to lose some of his favorable match ups, but also give Yun a better chance to fight the characters that he has bad match ups against right now. Doing this will make it so that Yun doesn't dominate anyone nor will he get dominated by anyone at the very high level of gameplay.
But the thing is that we know for sure that Yun's offense will be nerfed, but we don't know if Capcom will also buff Yun's defense to give him something back. So things will most likely be worse for Yun after the patch.
@26 pffft try Zangief vs Sagat that bs match up is ridiculous especially after his nerf.
Also vid needs subtitles / comments.
@28
"pffft" what scrub? Can you please try refreshing my memory and showing me where did I ever suggest that the Zangief vs Sagat match up was an "even" match up. Because I sure as hell don't remember me saying anywhere that the Sagat vs Zangief match up being even close to 5-5.
So are you now going to try and put words into my mouth as your latest gimmick for taking out your anger on me? Scrub???
not reading I find it dumb that you whine about this match-up when there are worse ones. Lol you talking about scrubs when you used nationality as reason for people not wanting to nerf x character.
"Daigo and Momochi are at a much lower level of professional gameplay than Poongko, Fuudo, and Latif. And I don't agree with that. "
I DO agree with that. All 3 have proven to be better than Daigo (and Momochi in Poongko's case).
@32
"not reading I find it dumb that you whine about this match-up when there are worse ones. Lol you talking about scrubs when you used nationality as reason for people not wanting to nerf x character."
Yes I have claimed that Nationalistic bias does influence a lot of American players whne it comes to which characters they would like to have as top-tier.
I made that remark under the comments section of the Evo2k11 thread where many Eventhubs posters clearly showed strong nationalistic bias in terms of which pros they want to win.
There are reaasons for why I say that this nationalistic bias also affects what characters many American players want as being top-tier. I mean, LOTS of American players were shouting: USA USA USA USA when Daigo used Guile to beat Mago's Fei Long during the Canada Cup.
Why else would so many American players be shouting: USA USA USA USA when Daigo (A Japanese player) won a Canadian tournament other than the fact that Guile's character represents the American soldier???
@32
On what basis do you judge that the Sagat vs Zangief match up is "worse" than the Seth vs Yun match up when it comes to the very high levels of gameplay???
I agree that on the lower levels of gameplay, Sagat vs Zangief match up may be worse than Seth vs Yun since Sagat is easier to play than Seth. But you yourselfhave clearly said before that tiers and matchup dynamics should ONLY CONSIDER the highest levels of gameplay.
And so far, you haven't provided any evidence for why you think Sagat vs Zangief is worse than Seth vs Yun when it comes to the highest levels other than your meaningless rants.
Are you really that dumb to see that even at the highest level of play Sagat owns Gief seriously lack of KD is where he even stood a chance against him it's common knowledge that match up is all about if Gief can get momentum if he can't he's done I'm starting to wonder how much you really know about the game if this match up has always been like this but in this version it's the worst.
Also the salty suite showed that Seth can be dealt with pretty evenly by Yun in case you forgot. Want an example of Sagat/Zangief Topanga Cup Itabashi vs a Sagat (RF I believe) and see how lack KD didn't help
@ 26
Why compare Seth's dp to Fei Long's? Is Fei not god tier enough? Must Fei's dp beat out every single dp? Sounds like a Fei Long mainer to me. Anyway Seth's dp isn't necessarily better, his light punch dp has almost no invincibility so basically you only use fierce dp which whiffs on closer jump ins where Fei longs will hit due to the more vertical hit box. Second Fei Long can fadc his flame kick for the full damage and is easily confirmed while Seth can only fadc the first hit which does less damage. Third, Seth also has 850 stamina and you want him to trade hits with Fei Long's flame kick when he has 1000 stamina? Seth has his reasons for having a dp with so many invincibility frames because he has low stamina and stun. If he had his invincibility frames lowered and started trading hits he would be a lot lower on the tier list because Seth can afford to take that damage due to his low stamina.
From Air-Ryu facebook
Poongko is in japan now and going even against most of the players except nekojitq abel (#1 abel)
commentor1: "Does anyone in Japan feel comfortable against Seth?"
Air-Ryu: "None of them know the match up, but he is going even with kazunoko"
@17
Poongko was in japan before he left for evo, he had to connect flight to LA. he was having an exhibition with a lot of Japanese players. The noticeable players were MOV (Ken), Kazunoko (Yun), FU*K YUN (Yun), Nekojita (Abel) and Fuudo (Fei Long). I don’t know the exact score between them, but Poongko won more matches than losing because he collected 10k bp when he left and from what I checked through the arcade ranking system, Nekojita Abel beat him more. Poongko went even with MOV and Kazunoko and beat Fuudo 2-0 and also beat canada's Air ryu 2-0. But in Evo he lost to fuudo feilong.
^ I was there in Shinjuku. He had a win rate of 70%+, and his last match was against Fuudo, which he lost and then the bunch (MOV & co) said goodbye to Fuudo and the rest who were watching and left with Poongko.
Incidentally, I also lost twice against Poongko (won 2 rounds though). But I did beat Air twice before he beat me.
Gootecks looks a little tipsy or a little blazed or both.
