BestAkumaEver and Randomvposter sent in a clip showing an unblockable setup involving Trish, C. Viper and Iron Man in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that was posted on YouTube by Rushkyury.#1 I doubt they remove Viper focus. I hope they don't if they nerf anything in this game it should be overall damage output so there is more room to work creative combos. Also the guy on P1 side sucked pretty bad. Also the game did bomb in Japan sadly hahaha.
THIS SET UP IS TOO OBVIOUS FOR THE GAME DESIGNERS NOT TO HAVE INTENTIONALLY PUT IN THE GAME , IT'S THE SAME AS USING CHUNLI ASSIST (LIGHTING LEGS ) AND DOING TASKMASTER UNBLOCKABLE...
YOU USE AN ASSIST FOR LOCK DOWN AND HIT THEM WITH AN UNBLOCKABLE , NO BIG SURPRISE THERE,,,,
@8 not to mention there are certain things you can do to severly punish this stuff. A good concept example is Hsien Ko Hyper Armor Senpu Bu counter. just hit forward and Hsien Ko assist and make them eat it raw.
The DHC thing though still might get nerfed only cuz it's not as flexable with other charcters unlike this. Not complaining but it's something people gotta stop being in denile about, it will happen if Capcom feels it as unfair. Perhaps they are waiting till EVO to see how many people abuse it.
@13 Except you can set up this on people's wake up so they can't jump out of it.
@1 Most of these unblockables and infinites are totally intended by developers, several of them are even in the guide. At this point I'm almost convinced the DHC "glitch" was completely intentional too, Capcom had the chance to remove it in the latest patch and they didn't.
I say, let the scrub whine and moan, Capcom purposely included unblockables and infinites in this game for a reason, if scrubs don't like it, they can go play SB or something.
@17
It took two patches to get rid of the Haggar Spencer glitch I think it's just a matter of them not knowing how to fix the DHC glitch. Also the guide was not written by the developers and the only two non XF infinites in it (Jill's feral L infinite and air qcf+H infinite) got removed before she was released.

I still think the DHC glitch was intentional. I think it's a cool way to add another layer of team synergy to the game and from a programming stand point I don't see why you would want to keep track of certain DHCs and "trapped" states to handle damage and stun scaling if all you need to calculate those is the number of hits in the current combo. That alone tells me it could have been intentional. Whether they take it out of the game or not, that's a different story. We don't know what else the competitive scene may figure out down the road, and it may turn out to be a really game breaking tactic, which right now IMO is not the case. We'll see.
"I'm sure ironman and trish can be replace.
This game just got interesting.
Too bad scrubs will whine and get this plus the dhc glicth removed."
I really, really can't stand people this stupid driving the balance discussions in most fighting game communities. What's worse is the fact they instantly assume they're superior to all other players just because they like to use gimmicks to reduce their gameplay to an easier flowchart.
This is why there are so many people playing all top-tier characters in ranked mode who can't block even the most obvious crossups, and are the first to ragequit and call you "cheap" for not using the exact same set of gimmicks they're used to.

The DHC trick does absolutely nothing to promote "team synergy". All it does is push characters like Sentinel and Storm up in the tier lists. It's a way for certain characters to do more damage than everyone else for basically zero effort. That's practically the definition of a balance issue.
It already is a game breaking tactic. Look at the number of tournament players (who honestly aren't even that fanastic players in general) who spend 100% of their energy in every match doing nothing but trying to set up an instakill DHC glitch combo, and actually winning matches because of it.
Your "from a programming stand point" (I really wish people who aren't programmers would stop saying that) argument doesn't work either. There are other factors which apply to the combo meter, like hitting assists. This is in addition to the fact that different types of hits affect the scaling multiplier differently, so you couldn't derive accurate scaling information from the number of hits accrued so far anyway.
I wonder if we can use the crossover counter. When she is attacking with the focus attack after the assist Iron Man, I have to quickly use the crossover counter to hit her off. hmm... I don't know if that will work. I will check out later. Thanks for warning us! =D
Maybe I meant some characters could escape C. Viper's focus attack--for example Ryu's shoryuken can escape it. Oh After the shoryuken, then Ryu uses the hyper beam(vertical).
They will patch this by removing C. Viper from the game. True story.
This is a good set up. Seems like you cant do anything about it but just eat the focus.
Cant pushblock out of it cus of trish flying harvest and iron man beam hold you down long enough for the focus to hit.
You cant jump out or roll forward cus of Trishes super.

It does add to team synergy because of the simple fact that no character is capable of taking advantage of the DHC trick alone by him/herself. You need at least 2 characters in the right order to perform it, and there are a lot of possible combinations. Almost every character can be either a starter or an ender of the DHC trick. It's just another factor you need to consider when building your team, and it's even order dependent. Like I said, IMO that adds more to the team synergy metagame.
Also, the fact that a tactic is prevalent doesn't automatically make it game breaking. While I agree that it's a powerful tactic, is not the be-all and end-all of the game. Almost all characters can potentially take advantage of it, you just need to build the right team.
>"There are other factors which apply to the combo meter, like hitting assists. This is in addition to the fact that different types of hits affect the scaling multiplier differently, so you couldn't derive accurate scaling information from the number of hits accrued so far anyway."
Yes you can, according to the damage scaling formula, the combo counter, base damage of attacks and a constant modifier depending on attack type are the only things needed to accurately calculate damage scaling. All of that except for the combo counter are constant and pre-fixed. None of that has anything to do with DHCs or specific character states. So again, I can't prove it but my guess is the DHC trick was intentional. Like I said, whether they later decide to take it out of the game or not it's a different story.
Pushblocking it doesn't seem all that difficult. I think this is more of a thing that would catch you off guard a few times before you remember you can just mash Advancing Guard. Which is exactly what happened in that video.
