Hello everybody, I am Anthony C. AKA Helgen X, Associate Producer of this presentation, and I would like to present to you a film that is somewhat out of the ordinary than other documentaries in the fact that it's not about just people and a place that was like a home to many, but the voice of the many who cherished the very spot.
Chinatown Fair arcade.
In the film, there will be showcasing of some of my images (shot with my E-P1), as well as documentaries featuring some of the greatest gamers of USA.
ARCADE: The Last Night at Chinatown Fair documents the final week of New York City’s last arcade, Chinatown Fair. The film follows the community of spirited gamers as they make their way from Manhattan’s Chinatown to their new home at Next Level in Brooklyn, an arcade started by Chinatown Fair’s former manager Henry Cen.
The fundraising site is thankfully hosted by Kickstarter, which I hope any and everyone will consider donating, as there are rewards for those who donate certain amounts as well!
(Ah, these projects always make me sad, it's good they've got a plan, one to migrate, no less.)
This looks awesome. This comment isn't specific to you (the film maker) but I feel like all I keep seeing is trailers for fighting game documentaries but I never get to see the film. Maybe I'm missing something....."Bang the machine", "I got next", etc.
"King of Chinatown".....I guess they all run out of money....
Its truly a shame that Arcade's aren't prominent over here in the states anymore... I still remember first going to the arcade Quarter Flash with my Dad when I was little we would hang out there for a an hour or two and just play games and have fun. I miss that old Arcade and only wish we could have that back. In these hard times though maintaining a place like that just seems like so much work you would have to have a very good source of money to keep the place running. Good Luck to the remaining arcades I wish you nothing but good fortune.
What's up everyone, thanks for the interest. Yes, that was Chris G, I was the one who was saying "it's like home," that wasn't two guys kissing in the end lol.
Next Level is not open yet, but Henry will be opening it up soon, it's currently open to a select few players and friends.
By the way, this is about the arcade more than the people and is more people to arcade oriented, rather than "I love games." I can assure you that it will most likely have anyone interested in gaming as well!
Also, thank everybody at EventHubs for letting the word be spread. I can assure you that this documentary is about the spirit behind a place where people loved to go and the memories behind them.
Also, do excuse the language, Chinatown Fair was always just so full of energy!
Holy heckfire, this looks incredible. I'm very excited. The thing that broke my heart the most about CF closing was that I knew that the social lives of many many people either in large part or even entirely revolved around the arcade. To lose not only fight games' greatest competitive cauldron in America but also a place that was a second home for scores of people was really sad. I only went to CF maybe thirty times starting in 2009, but some of the best memories of the last few years of my life were founded in that grimy hole of awesomeness.
I'll definitely be donating to this project.
wow homophobic much that was obviously a guy and a girl wow people get ur visine buddy
I wish in Europe the arcades would have better chances... And I wish someday there will be arcades again, I mean it's the best place to meet player of your game in the same region!
It's so difficult to get a small scene going as a regional from Zurich (Switzerland).
*looks at preview image for video*
Fsck yeah, Raiden Fighters! Shmups ftw!
95% of other arcades closed shop 10+ years ago...they should appreciate having this around for as long as they did.
Sick beat starting @ 2:26 of the video. Anyone know what it's called?
I don't really get why they need months more of footage. Chinatown Fair is closed. What's it gonna be, people sitting at home playing Xbox? Candlelight vigil in front of the old Fair? Fighting game documentaries are springing up all over the place nowadays, and some of them just feel like they're bait for donations.
HA! I'm IN THE DOCUMENTARY. 1:04. I'm the dude wiith the grey jacket, blue hoodie and bookbag on. EPIC!
wow, eventhubs lets comments like that stay up?? get real fellas, gays are people just like everyone else. your sh!t stinks just as much as theirs.
To number 25, this is about the arcade and it's people who've faithfully been around it for years. The whole Empire Arcadia, Team Sp00ky dudes, Justin Wong, the rave kids, the couples, the parents and their children who went... Not about fighting games. It doesn't say "fighting game" anywhere, though, of course, there will be footage about games, since it is about an arcade.
Sometimes, there's a place that people enjoy, a childhood memory, a place of gatherings, for escaping the world around us that may give us stress and depression... And CF was certainly the place for me like that, and for most people who went there, so understand that not everyone has a place like that as well.
