I would love to see Daigo (and all the other famous players), beast with lower tier characters. Daigo/Ryu was much more inspirational than Daigo/god-tier character.
Not that I put stock in who other people play; but I never found it impressive when 'great' players use the best characters. It's like bringing an SMG to an 1800s gunfight and being respected as a marksman when you win.
Even though Yun is one of the best in the game, if not the best, it's still very hard to win a tournament with just Yun alone. Yun vs. Gief is a lot worst than Ryu vs. Sim IMO. You still have to learn another character. Viper, Cammy, Boxer and Fei are also pretty good againt Yun but it's alot closer.
It's worth pointing out that Ryu was not the absolute best character in the game when Daigo was maining him. Sagat was in vanilla, and Chun, Honda, and Guile were all pretty close to the absolute top in SSF4. Daigo played Ryu mainly because he had few bad matchups. It's hard to say if Yun is going to be overpowered or simply very good.
As a member of the RYU ARMY I refuse to watch any video featuring the TRAITOR Daigo.
that double palm combo looks very easy i wonder why i never see anyone uses it before. I see other yun players waste a meter on ex palm after FA and does less damage.
I should record some matches too maybe, saw much more technology going on in Safari.

I'm ashamed to say I actually used to main him, now he's not even in my top 3 favorite characters to use. Guy, Seth, and Dudley are the most fun characters to use. Guy is just incredibly fun. Rushdown characters are the best, so I'm glad to see Daigo using a rushdown character, and really bringing out the best in a new character.
So sad he changed to Yun. To all the Yun players out there who even think this character takes skill, you guys are so retarded. Yun is such an abused and incredibly overpowered character. I'm ashamed to say I might not even buy this version because of Ono's decision. Ryu, Sagat and Guile are the most fun characters to use. Ryu is just incredibly fun to use, Zoning characters are the best, so I'm sad to see Daigo change, and really not even trying in every match now.

I'm a Yun 3s player and even I'm disgusted how powerful Yun is in AE. high priorities everywhere. Yang is ok in AE, Yun's just plain disgusting.
So glad I will be seeing less guile's in AE... Atleast Yun seems to have a greater learning curve making him less noob friendly.

The guy should be honoured to be playing SF royalty. I would love to play against Daigo but sadly I will probably never get the chance.
I think Daigo switched to Yun because he got cheesed off with the constant nerfs Ryu has received since Vanilla SF4, mainly due to how good Daigo is.
For people who are going to main Yun in AE console, its good to have Daigo maining the guy cause your going to pick up all sorts of combos/tricks, just like the double palm.
As for people who are sticking with Ryu, I dont know who is going to fly the flag for him in AE.
I'm looking forward to fighting against Yun with my crappy Ryu, it might be as intense as taking on Sagat in vanilla SF4.

To who ever mentioned above yes Gief is a counter-pick of sorts against Yun but this is the first in a long time that we have seen footage of Daigo playing AE which in turn we have little to no idea what Yun tech he has come up with to counter Gief. Also in the early releases of AE he mentioned learning Sagat to keep in his pocket in case such a match-up from a high lvl player presented itself.
He said already he will always go to the character with the best tools to win repeat win that is a difference between regular/tourney players (not all but quite a bit) I can understand the whole pick your fav but when money is on the line you use your best weapon that will achieve victory. As much as I hate Yun (being a Gief player myself) I'll see what I can do with no KD (which I'm still salty about)
I like how people attribute what we see in the video to character cheapness, not the guy freaking playing.
Or forget the status of Ryu in Vanilla.
Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sagat are stil the most used characters in the game, so expect the usual online army as well.

In essence a big part of what makes tier lists work is the best of the best using the characters, so he's not a tier whore more like the reason others will be tier whoring when picking Yun. I can't wait to give Yun (also Yang) and Oni a try.

You aren't a tournament player and you haven't played AE at all. Rest assured Ryu will continue to be the most used character as he has been in SF4 and SSF4.

Daigo has always played who he believed would give him the statistical advantage over other characters. Go back and look at older footage. You can see him using Balrog, Akuma, Ken, Ryu and now Yun, depending on the game. That's just off the top of my head.
Call it tier whoring if you want, but a sponsored player needs to win. He knows the match ups, all he has to do is focus on beating the player, not the character. Its as much a mind game as anything else. How many of you would be like the dude in the video? "Oh crap its Daigo, and he's using YUN!!!" In those cases he's already defeated you before the first round starts..
Wish they'd fix this freak, or bring the rest of the cast up to his level. Having a less balanced game means less diverse character picks and more armies of specific characters. I don't see how the players _or_ CAPCOM could want that, in a 30+ character game and 80% of the cast winding up underused.
I don't know how many good players from Japan are going to participate in this years EVO, but I'm quite sure Who the probable finalists are going to be.
Daigo yun is 10x better than any american player.
America's top = justin wong... sucks balls. his rufus is no match for Japs.

canada's best = air, JS master.
while air's ryu was good until ssf4, he won't stand against top japs. same goes for JS master's balrog although he's really good.

daigo and mago are better than rest of the players and hence its gonna be a tough call between Daigo yun VS mago fei, both equally matched, and both of them using broken characters.

I really dont care what Daigo does, but Im worried about how powerfull and easy is yun to use, I mean, Daigo do some good and "seems"hard combo like the two palms, but te rest was dive kick into 4 or five jabs into one of the special he have, and that shoulder atack (I dont know the name) semms pretty safe and pretty fast (not like cammy or guy).
So I know Daigo is a pro guy and all, but most of the stuff he do with Yun is pretty easy to use for anybody.

I've played AE and I've played against Yun. People on here keep saying he's OP without knowing why he is OP. The main thing that I found differcult about playing against Yun was the fact that his moves can be made very safe (unpunishable) and his dash punch is as fast as Makoto's EX dash punch but it juggles. He's very hard to predict and it costs health when you predict wrong. Most people commenting here won't have the knowledge to play him properly anyway so I wouldn't worry about an army of Yun's online.

Why are people saying Yun is OP. Did you guys forget Fei Long is considered the best character. Fei Long is a bad match up for Yun. So its looking like Mago is taking this year's EVO.
I'm sure as hell not getting paid, but I'm gonna play Yun because I simply want to play that character. But I can't play top tiers even if I like the characters right?

Guys, he's sponsored and he wants to win. There's no "honor" in losing and not being a good rep for your sponsor. Sure, he might win the admiration of the crowd, but he has a higher calling than that now (namely, his sponsors).
If some of you actually got paid to win, I wonder how many of you would stick with weaker characters because of your sense of honor or whatever. It's a game, and the point is to win. Period.
Why is everybody stressing out? This was Daigo(no 1 sf player in the world IMO) using a good character that nobody really knows the matchup for. If Daigo's Ryu in SSF4 AE played against Daigo's Yun in SSF4 AE then I wonder how close the match would be. I know this isnt humanly possible but alot of what SF is about is mind games/tricks, reading your opponent and exceptional execution.
Daigo could random select and still beat the vast majority of players in the world. Did you not see him use Guile/Guy/Hakan when SSF4 was in exhibition?
We'll just have to learn the matchup and seeing that everybody thinks there will a tonne of Yun's online, learning the matchup shouldnt take too long! lets put it one way, I find it easier to face a Ryu mirror match, Ken/Akuma/Sagat/Cammy/Fei then a matchup with Gen for instance purely because of the lack of Gens online. I dont think I'll have that problem with Yun!
Just learn the matchup and enjoy yourself. When you beat a top Yun with a lower "tier" character, you'll get greater satisfaction.
So if people who get PAID to play the game for a living haven't been able to get past him or find his 'weaknesses', exactly what hope does the rest of the gaming populace have?

People, he said the reason he's playing Yun is because he's always liked Yun as a character, but he wasn't really into SF3 enough to learn how to use him in 3S. He also acknowledged Ryu's place in the tier lists (top of the high, bottom of the top) If he is such a tier whore, he would've used O. Sagat in ST, Chun-Li in 3S, Sagat in Vanilla, Bison in SSF4, Fei Long in AE, etc.

It's true. Mago, Tokido, Daigo, etc. all agreed that Fei is at the very top of the tier lists. If anything, Mago is more of a "tier whore" than Daigo. He mained Sagat in Vanilla and Fei in SSF4, who are both at the very top of the tier lists, yet you don't hear anyone crying tier whore, but when Daigo switches to a character who's not even at the very top, people cry. Jeez, SHUT UP.

I've played with Yun in AE, he is beast because his Bnb are mad easy and his damage is very, very good! But if you catch him he's toast. I don't mind him overall, it's challenging for sure but he's not as tough as a top Vanilla gat or a top Super Guile, in my opinion at least. I'll try both twins but will be sticking to Sagat, Adon and Oni(Only for Ultra 2 lol).
People have to remember, this is Daigo using Yun, Daigo could use Ryu and still be at the top of BP.
In saying that though from my days of playing AE if I had to give a quick top 5ish(maybe more) top tiers in my opinion are(In no particular order)

#100 Although I agree the new generation(which I am apart of) is easily intimidated by something difficult, old school generation used to soft and hard ban characters(O.Sagat and Akuma).
The mentality should be suck it up, YOU can pick Yun as well, it's not like he's only exclusive to certain people...and YOU can learn to counter pick Yun to cover your back. Every single Top player in the World does not stick to one Character, they are masters of many Characters, everyone who hates Yun should learn Gief.
I play Sagat and Learned Adon to combat the characters with more agility, moral of the story, it'll be okay guys ;)

@102: Did it occur to you that one might want to step up their game against the player, not the character? If it isn't clear to you: Imagine vanilla Sagat but having _triple_ his already stupid damage output. In that fictional scenario, would you dismiss it as whining for people to complain about such a character, or admit that there's something to it? If you concede there's something to it, you're only bargaining about where the line is drawn where people have a right to complain.
I agree with #81 about not having to worry about playing competent Yun players online. Rufus was arguably the best character in SF4, but the average online player didn't have the ability to make him anywhere near as dangerous as he was in tournaments. Since Yun is basically a skinny Rufus, I'd assume that this will also be the case in AE.
Yun is basically a skinny Rufus, but with an uppercut, faster meter building, 4-hit Rekkakens, and Juri's Feng Shui Engine as his SUPER, but is simultaneously nowhere near as good as Vanilla Ryu?

Its always nice to see daigo use a rush down character, f*ck the haters, people just need to learn how to be calm block and carefully watch what your opponent is doing.
People say Daigo is a tier whore, but in reality they are the real tier whores.
I know why they nerfed Ryu, they wanted to change how the current SF title was being played, from turtlefest to more rush down style. Ryu got nerfed in Super and sucked against Fei Long (Mago brutalized him). So he picked top tier Guile and easily countered Fei Long. I think the company was looking at this and saw that no matter what rush down character you picked, there was a turtle character you could counterpick with and make the game boring as hell (Honda/Guile/Blanka, etc. lol).
Daigo will be skilled with whoever he plays, because he is an exceptionally skilled player with intensive knowledge. He knows the game engine, combos, resets, option selects, anti-airs, glitches, etc. He understands the game and he knows how to shut down his opponents options, which is what SF is all about (like chess). His strong fundamentals make him good, don't think that Yun alone is why he'll be winning.
That being said, that doesn't mean a character can't be overpowered. But a lot of you haven't played the game yet, so why whine? =P
Anyway, Diago is not on a mission to please fanboys. Like Ryu, he is on a mission is to "WIN." That's why he goes to character with options, because he can use those options to out step his opponent. Diago has never used the number one character anyway. Ryu was easily outclassed by Sagat/Akuma/Guile/Dhalsim/Fei Long. But Ryu had enough options to offset his weaknesses and his match-ups were pretty average across the board (though he does lose terribly to Dhalsim). Capcom made some of Ryu's essential tools weak (like nerfing corner hurricane kick escape and cr.mk). I think they think that if Diago doesn't use Ryu, he'll use someone else. If he uses someone else, many other people will use someone else because they look up to Daigo. This will influence the scene, thus how the game is played in a sense.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts. Rufus can still compete, and now Sagat is making a comeback, while Makoto is really good in AE. I think Fei Long's biggest weakness is his FA. Even though it's the best in the game, it gets destroyed by some characters (like Balrog and Adon). I don't think Yun is as easy to counter-pick.
