It means you do one set of inputs, and the game automatically chooses what comes out.
A good example is O.Ken in ST, as shown on Damdai's Super Turbo Saturdays. In that game, O.Ken could throw by holding F+HK, and DP is obviously F,D,DF+P. His wakeup O/S would be a meaty short, and then go F,D,DF,F+LP+HK. If the opponent was throwable after the short (i.e. chose to block), they get thrown. If the opponent wasn't throwable (jumped or reversaled), they get stuffed by Ken's invincible DP.
It's not only SF4 that has option selects, MvC3 has a ton of command-grab O/Ss. Justin used a she-hulk O/S to great effect in a bunch of tournaments.
So guys.... did you SEE the damage from one jumping mp, into F+MK, reset into super did on Yuns Health ??? Looks like seth health to me hahaha.
Um, he did j.mp f.mk twice... How could you have missed that?
@MALDA
Don't talk when you don't know what you're talking about. MK9 at a high level is already much faster then SSF4, and will just get even quicker as the game evolves. It has always been this way, MK is just faster. SSF4 is slow as hell, don't fool yourself.

That is day negative 2.
I'm liking that option select. I can see how it would be very useful against pretty much ever character's backdash. Not sure if it's better then the tatsu option select though.
