Eurogamer thinks that Capcom's Yoshinori Ono is hinting that Street Fighter X Tekken will have a four player option. The article reads:
When Eurogamer asked Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono if Street Fighter X Tekken also includes four-player fighting, he replied: "Just look at my face and imagine. I'm sending you psychic signals.
"Eventually I'll have to answer that question."
From this statement, Eurogamer believes that Ono is hinting that Street Fighter X Tekken will have a four-player option, but from the quote alone, it seems pretty ambiguous. Perhaps Ono's face or psychic signals somehow provided more insight than this quote on its own did.
A couple of readers suggested there could be a four-player option in a story yesterday though, because Ono said a hint of things to come is hidden in one of the recently released gameplay trailers for the title, and that people should look very closely at the clip for what the game will eventually allow them to do.
Regardless, in typical Ono fashion, there's a lot of room left open for interpretation, so take this how you will.
Tip from Virtua_Kazama.
ALL HAIL THE KING OF TROLLS!!!
I LOVE ONO!!!!!
And you would HAVE to do 4 players man, Mortal Kombat 9 is doing it and they are in competition with Namco to develop the best Cross series and Ono made it clear the idea is to top them.
Ono, go, go, go, go, go!!!!!!!
Oh man, it's a good thing they are using Tekken controls in this game too!
He did say he wanted to take Street Fighter where it's never gone before and the way the elimination system appears to work right now (IE each character has their own life bars, but whomever's life goes down on that team first, loses the round.) They don't share life and it's not like the other VS games where you have to defeat the person on point and their partner(s) right after. So there might be some substance to this.This was also an option that people wanted in MvC 3 as well, although that was ran by a different team.
Then again he could be trolling hardcore.
@6 Yeah but I think they have enough experience to pull it off, plus it's not like MvC3 where the amount of stuff happening on screen is too chaotic. It's doable. If they can pull it off in MK9 and other games, I don't see why it would'nt work here. They have a whole year so...
it would be dope if that happens. that would be huge
why is he always speaking in riddles? i know his english sucks, but at least give a yes or no answer. did he troll this much on his interview when first finding a job? did he troll when hitting on a girl? Here is his usual chat transcript
Ono:"Hi im Yoshinori Ono."
Girl"Im Ming, how old are you?"
Ono"Age is the vast river of life..."
Girl"Do you like me?"
Ono"Read my psychic signals"
Girl"Do you plan on having children"
Ono"Next weeks video should give a hint, look hard"
Girl"Can i see a picture of you?"
Ono"freshly taken" (Ono sends a pic of his hairy toe next to the Blanka figure"
#16 Ha ha.. Nice one.
It may be the same with guilty gear asuka..
Sigh....
They will troll to the end just to get people hype
in this game..
Why can he be just like ed boon
Ed boon hears his MK-fans never did attempt to troll.
IMO i hate the life bar in SXT i hope they change it.
The way I see it, Capcom will have to offer 4-player playability at some point, seeing as how MK9 is offering this feature, so might as well be in what is shaping up to be one of Capcom's big releases that offers tag play. They want to show up Namco's offering and allowing for 4 players to play simultaneously woul raise the bar considerably.
@19
Why don't you ask Ed Boon where the idea from MK came from? lulz I'll give you a hint, it has Street Fighter in the name.
(It's not out of the question. I do wonder if there'll be lag problems, a la MVC3, tho.
BTW MK comes out tomorrow, expect lots of MK Fanbois making baseless claims...)
Ono? Tease? Nooo...I think we should just "wait a while" and see
:D
Who here wants to pile-drive Ono then finish it off with a flash kick after he bounces? tagging guile in SFxT style
@27
You mean sick online as it could end up being disgustingly laggy? If so, then I agree.
Seriously, in order for them to pull this off properly, they absolutely must ensure that it is as smooth as possible because lag would destroy this mode.
That is, assuming Ono isn't just trolling...and well, it's Ono. You're best off waiting for real confirmation of something as opposed to trying to read between the lines.
darko_p86: "why is he always speaking in riddles? i know his english sucks, but at least give a yes or no answer. did he troll this much on his interview when first finding a job? "
Do you understand he has bosses that don't allow him to tell you everything he would like to tell you? Do you have a job? Do you do what your boss tells you? Does that make you contemptible?
The difference between anyone else with a boss and Ono is that he has legions of fans trying to interpret his every word and get him to give away things he's not supposed to. That comes with his kind of success.
What is his reward for using evasive language to try to give you tidbits of info without breaking the company rules? You call him names.
Abel does his combo, then Guile comes in with FLASH KICK.
Presumed that FK is still a charge move in this game, maybe this is a hint that player 2 was charging?
A four player mode would not only be awesome competitive wise(i foresee teams forming once its official) but also for the casual gamers who want to hang out and have fun without dusting off the wii for smash bros brawl but also enjoy playing current fighting games like mvc3 or ssf4/ae. ik this would appeal to me and some of my friends. we used to hang out and play vanilla sf4. this addition would be awesome, but they say patience is a virtue. haha.
Co-op fighting would be so ill. definitely viable with live and headsets to coordinate switch in combos; even without headsets. I think they'll add in this co-op fighting because it would definitely add something new to their fighting series and this game looks like integrate it very well.
@SHOGUN
Street Fighter EX3 had something called dramatic battle where you could have 1v2 and 2v2 battles. I believe there was one mode where all 4 characters were out at once. If SFxT has 4 player combat, this won't be the first time Capcom entered this territory. With that in mind, I highly doubt it'll be the last time either.
hes such a freakin troll LOL.
Weather or not hes planing 4 player im might be useing this to guage fan interest. In that case im sure he will see that we want to have 4 player battles.
I think the clue is the Abel and guile peer up. If you think about it, it wouldn't make any sense to add any charge characters into a 2 player tag based game unless they either take away the charge (ex. chun in 3rd strike.) or they make it a four player base game in which guile can charge until he is tag.I highly doubt that they will take away the charge system because it wouldn't be the same without it. SFxtekken is similar to sf4 and if you take away the charge in sf4,you are taking away a big part of the fighting system that sf4 offers. Oni said that sf4 is more of a defensive game, which is what most charge characters are meant to be played. Of course you can play Balrog offensively too, but to me he is merely forcing his defense unto his opponent. It seems confusing, but think about it.
Onos latest video this explains why he enjoys trolling.

(This Video contains scenes of explicit Trolling and gore)
irrenmann
yeah, it may be his job to troll. but why don't you see any other developer doing the same thing as much as he does? either give legit info, or dont give any at all. giving it in tibits could just as well lead to misleading the fans into believing something that isn't true. it may be his job, but his job sucks, even if he's getting paid a lot of money for it. i love him as a creator of one of the best games, mainly the sf4 franchise, but doing what he does isn't cool.
picture Mercedes, or BMW developers doing that. hey guys, we just may install a hover conversion and a Mr.Fusion to you standard 2012 BMW. check next weeks vid for a hints.
Can you guys imagine this online..
Your joined by your friend.
Doing some tag or switch partner Combos..
in PSN... Good luck.
@Ninja
Thats why MK came out after the success of SF 2 right?
Also I find it funny how SF made a comeback in the fighting game scene and we suddenly get a MK that goes back to it's roots. Oh and lets not forget it has moves similar to ex and ultra's now. HOW ORIGINAL lulz.
Anyone who says this concept is due to MK9:
1) Go to a MK fansite
2) We have Tekken Tag to thank for a system like this
3) MK9 incorporated an already laid out system, added 4 player support...how hard is that?
4)MK9 did it first, but I will bet money that SFxT will PERFECT it.
This is unrelated to the main topic but I saw a few MK related commentes here. If you compare MK9 to past MK games, I really can't find much difference between them. Other than the x-ray feature, the tag system in MK9, and ONE WHOPPING NEW CHARACTER, the game is practically the same. To be honest, MK became a "CoD trend" where developers copy and paste a game and just add a couple of minor features and called it a new game. If any MK fans disagrees with me, please eniighten me. No joke, I want to know the major differences between MK games.
Why are some of you assuming that because tags in and does a flash kick that the game has 4 player? Did you guys just turn off your brains and not consider that charging moves while tagging in and out does not reset the charge? I mean really, it's not that difficult of a concept to grasp.
At all.
SnakeX
relax snake. lets make this a friendly debate. i think it works similar along the lines with sf4/ssf4. when the match begins, you are not forced to charge 2 1/2 sec after the announcer says "FIGHT", rather you can do a charge attack right after that. see in that case, you charge b4 the matcgh even begins. i think tag parters will be able to keep their moves charged up when not in immediate battle. that supports the 4 player tag system even more.
oh btw
i don't care who started what first. when SUPER was about to hit, i already had a suggestion to make 4 player tag system but NO, that didn't happen. i posted it up all up and down e.hubs but not 1 reply or thought from anyone. don't matter, now im happy as long as we get it at all.
@72
how wouldnt charge characters not work??? the only games chargers dont work out well in is the vs games, they would be fine in this. If ur concerned with doin team combos they can figure something out im sure. It should be that difficult.
There are 3 possibilities that concern Guile Flash Kick upon entry:
1) Charge moves do not need to be buffered upon a combo Tag-In. (Unlikely)
2) The video was footage of 4 Player mode, and player 2 was charging the Flash Kick. (Very likely)
3) Charging is a constant even in Tag-out. (Start charging before tag-out, same time charged is applied upon tag-in, likely)
I don't see how his answer consider troll. you guys are kind of crazy, if you think that's troll.
Since Street Fighter EX3 ive been anxiously waiting for a 2vs2 mode in a SF game. I would prefer the mode to be available offline first and foremost.
@ChunLi, MALDA, and FlawlessMatador
These guys are right!!! HAVE RESPECT FOR CAPCOM!! Capcom created the air we breathe so show some respect . When God said let there be light, It was Ryu that shot a hadoken up in the air.
LMAO
The fanboyism on this site has really gotta outta hand..
#84, You aren't kidding... How did we get this far?
this is the first picture of Ono i've seen in which he's not bursting with laughter
@lmarshalljr04
I'm no fanboy and kiss my ass because can like whatever game I want. Everything I said was fact. Besides I play most fighters nowadays.
@cvs
You usually come on here and instigate first.
@lmarshalljr04
Did you forget you're on a site devoted to CAPCOM related games? XD
I even said that the Tag system present in SFxT and MK9 was laid out in Tekken Tag.
TEKKEN.
Not Street Fighter, correct?
I did not say: "Oh, SFxT was the first to make the Tag system and MK9 stole it whine whine whine"
Tekken Tag invented it, MK9 took that into consideration in production, made it 4 player mode capable, assists and all.
I'm not mad at all about that.
SFxT is going straight to how Tekken Tag was, with the crossover improvements of both franchises.
I'm not fanboy raging at all, look at the bigger picture I'm painting.
@chun li
Did you forget to read the site rules?? XD XD
@chun li
disregard my comments on #84 and #89 @ you, Chun Li.. my bad.. you made some good points..
i am seriously laughing my ass off at all the capcom fanboys shaking in their boots at how incredibly awsome MK9 is ie. chun, malda, flawless
By the way capcom's street fighter didnt envent the 2d fighting game either you god damn morons... they copied karate champ and eh ar kung fu
IMO the new MK looks 1000x better than SFxT and i luv street fighter im just not a dumb a** fanboy... If capcom makes a crap game like MvC3 im going to admit it and if another company makes an amazing game like NRS and MK9 im going to buy it.
@SRKen
You fail to realize the motives behind my posts.
I never once said MK9 is superior/inferior to SFxT
I/We never once said that SF "invented" the 2D genre of fighters.
You are the one here spreading the book of MK to the Capcom choir, and you may take that somewhere else, if you don't mind.
I do not feel obligated to explain my posts yet again, so if you choose to remain ignorant on this matter, be my guest, but if you take the time to read my posts, you can see I'm not one sided on this matter.
reading through these comments i actually thought this was an article for Mk9.
anyways you guys seem to think that precharging is impossible. its actually very easy once you get the hang of it and is most likely what guile was doing when he tagged in after the abel combo. abels standing fierce and the tag in start up time into guile low strong is more than enough time to charge a flash kick.
im also not denying that it couldve been 4 player mode but you have to realize its possible with 2 player mode
@MonkeyCha0s
Of course it is simple to comprehend, there are possibilities as to how that particular Tag-In was performed.
I'm sure no one is flat out denying the charging was done as it happened, I played Chun-Li in many games (go figure) so pre-charging isn't anything new to a charge player in general.
Whether it was Solo or with a 2nd player, it's easier than it looks.
ChunLi and MALDA are gunna be the first to team up if there is a 4player mode. i can already see you guys in the evo grand finals for the 4player event
#94
agreed on Street Fighter copying Karate champ and Yie Ar kung fu..
@MonkeyCha0s
LMFAO! You made my day.
@SRKen
@lmarshalljr04
What do you guys seriously expect ANY other fighter to look like? It's 2 guys hitting each other, how more simple of a concept can a FIGHTING game get?
It's like saying DDR and Pump It Up "copied" off of the NES game Dance Aerobics. "It's a Dancing game with a mat-OMG THEY RIPPED OFF DANCE AEROBICS!!"
@Chun Li
Other companies borrowed for one another. Facts are Facts. Yie Ar Kung Fu and Karate Champ were an inspiration for Street Fighter.. I cant agreed with SRken with that?
@lmarshalljr04
I/We never once said that Capcom invented 2D fighters, yet he claims that we believe they did. I refuse to affiliate myself with someone who thinks as ignorant as he does.
As with all concepts in the world, someone had to make the first move, and we all thank Karate Champ for introducing the genre as we know it today. Nothing more, as the rest is evolution since then.
@Chun Li
LOL. What's with all the hostility on me. All i said that i agreed with SRken. Thats it. Go take a break and cool your head off..
Anyway, It would be cool if Capcom put a four player option in SFxTekken.. It worked for Tekken Tag Team Tournmaent.
@112
its do able. its not like the game is gonna be reading inputs from 4 players at once. the only time u will get more then 2 players makeing inputs should be on tag.
1 thing that i dont think anyone has mentioned when it comes to 4 player fights is character selection(let me explain). Obiviously u wont have a team of doubles, ie 2 ryus on the same team so what will determine what player gets first choice on a character??
I think a simple solution would be a rank system for each character(we already had this in super). So in the instance u get a team where both guys main the same character the player with the most rank/experience would get first choice on the character.
@Chun Li
it's over, man.. let it go.. enjoy yourself
#122
lol..Marvelous Adventures Episode #10: Here to Win episode is posted, little child.. run along now
@SRKen
actually your wrong capcom got its inspiration mostly from an anime/manga called fist of the north star. Ed boon even said they got their idea from SF there's nothing wrong with that. Snk did it and so did other companies. Now what you are wrong about is MK9 and NRS being good because they suck. They've only made one game so far and that's MK. I even have the game and while the single player features are good the gameplay still plays like mk vs dc but overrall the game is basically there for single player. I also like how you say shaking in your boots and calling others fanboys when your one yourself. MVC3 and MK9 are in the same league of how terrible they are except mvc3 at least has better fighting mechanics.
f*cking troll man, i hate you, btw primero otra ves
