Capcom's Christian Svensson made a ton of posts about Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition on the Unity Boards recently, covering both the console of PC versions. Topics mostly touch on non-gameplay aspects, like how the DLC costumes will work, what channels the game is being released through and things of that nature.Will all the super and ultra costume packs be in the PC version of SSF4 AE, or as paid DLC again?
Svensson: All costumes will be available separately as paid DLC.
Will there be a lower price for PC SF4 owners?
Svensson: We may do something like this with some of our digital distribution partners. I'm still mulling it over.
Is July the fixed time frame for release on the PC? — Hingis
Svensson: It is barring some problem with the tail end of development. It's been being worked on for quite some time now but the console versions had to finish before it could be wrapped up. Thus the slight lag.
When SSF4 was announced owners of Vanilla would get an extra treat should it detect a SF4 save on your hard drive, the 2 new colors. Will this also be the case for us PC owners with the AE release that have an SF4 save file?
Svensson: Nothing is planned like that, but I'm mulling over something else... we'll see. I believe everyone will have access to the two extra "colors" (really different shaders).
Will the PC release have Nvidia 3DVision support like vanilla has? — DarkSamus
Svensson: Still to be determined on 3DVision. We are having Nvidia look at the current build to evaluate how difficult that would be to implement and test 3D Vision but I make no promises right now.
Will it be on Steam? I'm hoping I can find a digital distributor I can pick this up from.
Svensson: Steam is one of our usual partners... We have about 20 PC digital distribution partners around the world, including our own estore. Surely you'll find one you use routinely.
Are alt. costumes going to be on disc, unlocked, for the disc release of AE on consoles? — P* (BayoBot)
Svensson: No. Sorry. But for consoles, I believe (and don't crucify me if I have this bit wrong) if you bought any of the DLC in any previous version, it will be available within SSFIV:AE.
How long was the PC version greenlit and hid behind curtains for. How far is it into development. Did you just start?
Svensson: Been in development a good while now... partially in parallel with the AE console development but wasn't able to fully complete until the console versions were approved. I'll let Ono-san shed more light here some day.
Please explain how the AE DLC vs. regular SSF4 is going to work. So Super versions of characters can play against the four DLC characters in SSF4. Or you can choose to play AE and use the AE balanced characters with the 4 new ones as well? — a
Svensson: I'll need Seth to describe how that works on the console side of things. What you're describing isn't my understanding. On PC, I believe it's JUST the AE (there is no Super to match with).
In case anyone asks, we don't have to buy the AE disc if we own regular SSF4. We just need to download a patch for cross-compatibility. — Metsu Kikoken
Svensson: Correct.
Vanilla SF4 on PC defaults to "Variable" framerate in the system settings which causes online matches to be rendered at the framerate of the weaker PC between two players, and since the animations are tied to framerate this causes the game to play in slowmotion. Choosing "FIXED" framerate causes the game to skip frames to always play at the correct speed, this is the desired choice.
Svensson: I believe we have a better solution than the one you've even proposed but I'm going to have to wait before we shed some light on it. Some stuff still being tested on that front from what the producer tells me.
What was meant by the "North American (limited)" release for the disc PC version? — PikminExpert
Svensson: It won't be a huge volume shipped to retail as we're going out via distribution, not direct.
On PC, Will DLC be exclusive to GFWL Marketplace or can we buy it on Steam? Are there deals or additional costs that prevent the DLC from being available on other platforms? — DCary
Svensson: The costumes are bought via GFWL marketplace regardless of the outlet you buy the main game from (including Steam). It should be painless.
How do you intend to force players that play the PC version online to use visual and quality settings to constantly maintain 60 fps? The reason I ask this is because I am sure some players don't care about fps and will use high quality settings even though they make online experience worse. — Mike
Svensson: When we're done with some of our testing on if what we're trying to do will work, I'll answer this question in a more detailed fashion. For now I'm going to have to remain mum. Don't want to promise something that isn't a final solution but we're working on a better solution.
What is distribution vs. direct? Is there a chance my local gamestop won't get it and I should preorder off Amazon or something? — Benjamin
Svensson: I can't speak as to where it's going to be at retail or not. Our distributor on the PC side of things has in the past sold to Gamestop, but there's no guarantee they will or won't be there again. While it's likely it'll be there, I can't predict whether Gamestop will be carrying it or not because it isn't my sales team that's handling the sale to them.
That's why it's indirect.
Will there be a guarantee that Capcom will not abandon DLC stuff on PC for SSF4 AE? — Andre
Svensson: You will have access to all of the DLC (which in this case is just costumes) that will be available at release on Xbox 360.
To be clear, there are no plans currently for additional DLC beyond that which will be launched around AE on any platforms. In short, you're getting access to all there is expected to ever be.
PC SSF4 AE, will it require a stronger PC, in comparison to SFIV?
Svensson: Similar requirements as SFIV I would think. We're still doing some testing on what we'll be putting as our minimum specifications.
Does the console disc release feature the full content of SSF4 plus a code to download? — Exxus
Svensson: The retail version is not SSFIV + a token to download AE. That disc should have full content on it... but to be clear, costumes from any version are not included within the purchase price of the disc. They are DLC.
Give us more details about the PC release of SSF4 AE.
Svensson: A few extra details to answer some of the questions above:
Yes, it is Games For Windows Live. No, there is not cross play with [the] Xbox 360. Yes, it will use GFWL SSA (no hackers or pirates playing online with you).
Yes it will be available via our usual PC digital distribution partners and available in the usual territories we have historically supported via digital distribution. Yes, there will also be a disc release in the North America (limited) and Europe. I'm not sure of plans for Asia or Japan right now. Sorry.
My question is when will be the pre-purchase avaliabe on steam and what will be the bonus for players who order a pre-purchase. Will custome packs be sold on steam or only on GFWL? — xrt
Svensson: My team is working on getting preorder materials out to our partners shortly. I can't say when for sure but a safe assumption should be within a couple weeks.
We aren't currently planning a pre-order bonus, but we are mulling over a couple ideas on portals that can support the concept of a multi-license sales (buy 4 copies for the price of 3, etc.).
On costumes, they will be available for purchase via GFWL Marketplace, regardless of where you buy the game (Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, Gamersgate, Real, Gamestop, Metaboli, Games for Windows Live Marketplace itself, the Capcom eStore, etc.). As we get closer to launch, I'll share more specific details on this.
Hey uh if catalyst or whoever is listening, I just go t my email about the free brady guides :U
number one question (Super vs ae fights) unanswered....
To anyone who was hiding under a rock when the Captivate information embargo was lifted on the 12th, here you go. A link to information about AE, it's date, and pricing.
I hope they Dont change the PC requirements.
one my pc only runs with a single core.
anyway glad its coming,,,
@Nep, #3:
From what I understand you won't be able to make that choice. Everyone playing SSF4 or SSF4 AE will be forcibly moved to AE mode, except people without the new disc or DLC will only be able to select SSF4 characters.
Smart on Capcom really, otherwise they risk fracturing the community even more. If people had a choice, then there would be a bunch of people playing SF4, a bunch playing SSF4 and another bunch playing AE. At the end of the day, it'll mean less people playing any particular game.
A bit disappointed though that they're not implementing cross-platform play between PC and XBL. It's been done in some FPSs before, and unlike FPSs users of any one system won't have any advantage over the other (i.e. PC kb+mouse players pwning XBL controller players).
The DLC is $15; the disc is $40. It's a clearly obvious which is the better investment here.
The only advantage I see of buying the disc over the DLC is if you want to bring the disc to a friend's house or if you're too impatient to wait to download the patch + DLC.
Awesome, Answers!
PC
:D
The ONLY 1080p version.
XB and PS run this @ 720p
Buy PC AE.
FTW
@17: The point of the disc version is for people who didn't buy the game already. If you already own the game, there's no reason to buy the disc unless you're some kind of collector.
@19
I'd buy the PC version any day over the PS3 one (although I'm going to end up buying both) because of the better online on GFWL, but damn, you're a graphic wh0re.
The game looks fine without AA on both consoles. And I can't see other big differences aside that and the resolution limit. And you wouldn't be caring about the res unless you're just buying the game and letting it run in demo mode to see all the (rather indistinguishable) higher res hadouken particle effects or cammy's ass in 1080p.
You should get a console. Then you'll start actually caring for gameplay.
lol @ ssf4 vs ae matches not getting explained, oh well just online anyway... im interested in exactly what will be on the disc release. he says "AE will not be SSF4 with a download token" but then what what is it? cause thats exactly what it sounds like its gonna be... and if its not whats the point of it? the only other scenario i could see is him not referring to it as "SSF4" because the patch will already be applied, and the cover art being different. also i dont think a price has been announced for it yet, if it doesn't hold all the same features as SSF4 + no dlc i dont see it being 40$.
If this doesn't concern you then you don't need to leave a comment.
I'm extremely excited about AE for PC. I love having it on my laptop. This way I can bring my laptop + stick, my friend can bring a stick and we can have a sessions anywhere we want. We played vanilla like this in a bunch of bars. This is awesome news. Thank you Capcom.
I'm glad they didn't implement cross-platform play with PC. Last thing I want while playing online is having to deal with hackers and graphics whores who don't care about maintaining an stable frame-rate, as long as they have all their precious video settings all cranked up.
lol @ people still expecting more characters, and lol @ the questions asked about future DLC. AE = end of SFIV. Some people really need to accept that.
People also don't seem to get the real value of a disc release: ever tried running a tournament? Weeklies? Get-together casuals? Didn't think so. Well putting on tournaments with multiple setups can be a royal pain when all the setups need to have DLC. It needs to be paid for and installed ahead of time, or the venue needs to have internet so they can pay for it at the venue (which, the venue probably doesn't have internet), or even to do PS3 content sharing (which is only good for so many uses, and places don't usually have the exact same setups brought to be used every time).
SSFIV is nice. You can put it in any game system, at any venue, and start playing. All you need is the disc. MvC3 and DLC AE? Not-so-much.
^Even if some hax was available today, lots of PC players are hype to pay for/support the PC and buy AE.
:D
@33
He's talking about the online aspect of the game.
Yes you can pirate and play offline modes (just like any other game) but you will need a legit key to use GFWL and play online.
Also I'm wondering how 'hacking' would work for a fighting game like this.
The disc release is for people who don't already own SSF4, and tournament organizers who don't want to deal with the hassle of buying/downloading DLC/title updates for multiple copies of games. People who didn't make the jump to SSF4 for a measly $40 now have the option to make the jump to AE for the same price. If you DO own SSF4, you just have to pay $15 for the DLC. You get the same content either way. A disc release is awesome, especially for PC users who didn't get SSF4 and now they're getting a brand new game for $40 because of it. There's absolutely no negatives to a disc release coinciding with the DLC.
If they're really not gonna update AE for consoles, that's going to be lame...Hope they retract that statement later... Don't want it to be the end all of everything. I can't except the fact that they made the new chars strong and the only a few of the older chars got buffed.
It's still uncertain how SSF4 vs AE players will work...
SSF4 players will have access to AE rebalancing but not the DLC character ? (trailer says there is a supercharged upgrade and "4 characters as DLC"... I'm not sure to understand well).
or people who bought DLC will be able to choose SSF4 original or AE... and others (only SSF4 version) will only be able to play SSF4. This makes sense but that will divide the community which is sad. Because I'm not buying AE to play original SSF4...
#39
I think you mean 1440x900 PC monitor, that is still better than 720, but 1080p = 1920x1080 - big screen tv's can do 720 or 1080 horizontal lines(max).
Either way we are still verry good looking and detailed res without jaggys or lines
Cant wait!! Till then I am still rockin PC Vanilla lol
I dunno what people gave with the resolution. :P I'm playing on PC with 1024x786 with 4xAA and it looks perfect for me. XD On the other hand I always was kinda blind on such things. ;) As for AE I dont really understand why would they give 2 versions of characters for everyone... Can't they just force AE balance on everyone with a patch?
I've been looking forward to the pc version for a long time now! I'm glad it's finally getting some light. :]
@43
Im pretty sure the only way to get the AE balance update is to buy the DLC so if Super players don't buy the DLC and you play against them you will be playing normal Super without the AE balancing i could be wrong though but that's how i think it will work.
Tbh I don't think it's out of the question to expect to 2 more characters,if you look at the roster then you'll see that there's room for 2 more.
Just like E.Ryu/Oni,they'll be released around some certain time and it will give the arcades some edge over the console-players (which after some time will be available to consoles ofc).
And oh yes,it's warm and cozy in my naieve little bubble.

Yeah I don't really wanna play with any more console players after I had "pleasure" to meet some in other games.
But seriously you are either a coward because you don't want for PC player to be better than you or and idiot cause you think everyone will use frame rate for their advantage (which almost no one does in SFIV). Either way congratulations.
Really, the pc version being released is only going to cause more problems than good. Remember vanilla, hacks galore, pirating... Capcom should focus only on the console versions. That's where the real competition and money(for capcom anyway) is. PC version could never be taken seriously unless certain variables (hacks, etc.) could be better controlled, which is virtually impossible.
@21
Who cares how many pirate copies will be? Nobody can play it online because it will use the new serial system. No more players online like "oh I just wanted to try this game so I downloaded it and mashin DP". Thanks god. Wanna play online? Buy the game! It's simple like this.
#55 Ha so it's coward then. (of course he couldn't win ha HAD to use macro!) Well somehow I didn't meet ONE Macro user and they are very easy to spot (whiff). You should stop talking about it like you know anything cause you only show you don't.
Most console players I met on forums are like angry children that don't like that others can get their toy and keep talking crap "no money on PC, only hakers and pirates, MACROS LOLOLOLOLOL" well guess what? Unlike you I have a friggin proof its pure bullsh*t: CAPCOM IS REALEASING SSFIV AE ON PC! And you can't do nothing about it.
I just waited for this to be released for months! What are you talking about "Pc version shouldnt be released"? Not everyone can afford to have a PS3 and I can't buy one for simply one game.
And for not being able to cross-platform play: This is just non-sense! There won't be much challenge among only-PC players. All of the great players are using console. So we will never get to battle with them?
This is simply rude. I will be buying the game to play against the stupid AI?
i understand AE on disc will be good for people that did not purchase Super, but Svensson literally says "AE will not be SSF4 with a download token" :/ also i dont think there is a confirmed price, the only thing i heard is "it wont break the bank". i doubt it will be 40$ if its not a carbon copy of super with new cover art and DLC pre installed. definitely good for tournaments tho, no doubt, just wondering what if anything will be different from the super disc compared to the AE disc.
@#57
Piracy is no longer any reason to keep PC users out. In case you haven't heard, Xbox360 and PS3 have both been broken. Xbox users can download from isohunt and burn to a disc, PS3 users just need a jailbreak firmware and they can even have their entire game collections discless. I've seen bootleg stores where a guy will do the JB for you and load your PS3 up with whatever games you want.
If GFWL SSA works as intended, there should be no possibility of PC pirates playing online. You can't say the same for PS3, with Sony's private key hacked and floating in the wild.
@Goukin
people can practice and have fun on PC/Notebooks, before going to tournaments. You also don't say where is the point of PS3 version when most tournaments are using XBOX.... a FightStick can be plugged anywhere XBOX/PC/PS3.
Still there is only a few percentage of people who really go to tournaments.
@Mit
That's "probably" the case, but we don't know that at this point. No one knows if they'll add a couple of characters or costumes a few months down, they say they won't, but they say a lot of things.
I keep telling you people to take it with a grain of salt for a reason.
If it's just AE for PC, then I'm not remotely interested.
