Says a free download will enable SF4 players to play AE DLC owners to play online. I dont know if that means Vanilla Sagat can fight against Yun/Yang?? o_O

Ofc not,just means that u can play with ppl who bought the DLC update.
You won't be able to pick different versions of a character,dunno how ppl came up with that idea..

Yes, you right, half the cast in Super couldn't compete against the top tier characters.

In AE, 3/4 of the cast cant compete against the top tier in AE.

@12 That's... Dumb, haha... Seriously, why can't they just make the balance patch mandatory... So if I don't download AE, and my opponent picks one of the 4 new characters, I have to play as the old SSF4 version of my character instead of the new AE version? That's so dumb.

I am surprised. Greediness is so common these days, I expected them to just release Super and put AE as DLC to get more money.

As for consoles, the whole "playing with old characters" thing is a bit retarded... Balance update should apply to everybody. I have no idea why they're doing it that way, it makes no sense.

Well we sort of knew this was coming but I'm not sure I will be interested anymore. All I want is the balance tweaks and it is still confusing if will get the tweaks if we don't want to get the new characters etc.

I can care less for Yun, Yang, Oni and E Ryu. Not interested at all. If Karin, Alex, Elena and rolento were added, Then that would be great! Wishful thinking I know but there is always a chance. Still there are too many SF characters they can choose from so It would be very difficult to get everyone in. all anyways.

I think Mortal Kombat will have all the characters from their past series (aside for DC) through DLC. Which is great for MK fans. I never liked the Gameplay so I will watch from the wings.

everything is going according to how i've predicted apart from the extra characters, im still keeping my hopes up for future dlc characters, its kinda dumb that i have to purchase the dlc to get 2 of the characters i want, im not even likely to use yun and yang, they bore me in looks and gameplay *sigh*

what were really paying for is the 4 characters and better replay because even if you don't get the AE dlc you still get the free patch that gives you the AE balance which is what allows you to still play ppl who have bought the AE dlc/disk

This is actually extremely reasonable. They get lots of credit from me for this price and for going out of their way to not fragment the community.

if player x has ssf4 he will still be able to vs player y who has AE because player x gets a free patch that gives AE balancing which allows you to vs player y, player x will just miss out on the 4 new characters and new replay channel

damn the yun and yang players where so bad you can see how hard they edited that trailer. i think the yang player was the most terrible since they edited all his fails away so noticeably

but if u notice mo123,any char that was put in this game was put in with the intent of keeping them as faithful to their original selves as possible within reason.now how can that be made possible if uriens aegis,oros rocks or elenas healing would have to be removed for the sake of balance? not possible, esp in urien and oros case.common sense would tell any1 that w/o parry both of them are beyond broken. and healing in fgs is broken in itself.esp if only 1 person can use it.

I'm loling at all the gripe about the new characters. For the record, I don't like any of these 4 characters and I have absolutely no intention of playing any of them. But I am very excited about this patch, because of the way it'll change the game mechanic to be more aggressive, which I prefer, and because all of the characters I play got significantly buffed, namely Dee Jay and Makoto. There is so much more to this patch than just the new characters that are being added.

AE is a worthy upgrade. They're giving us a superior online experience (with features that I've wanted for a while now) and let's be honest, Yun dominating the game is better than Ryu or Balrog, lol.

question, I'm positive, online, it will be pretty much a slider, between SSFIV and AE, but in VS, will I be able to pick which version of the character i want to use, like in Hyper Street Fighter II in the Anniversary Collection? or will it be like a switch, where I pick which version before I play in offline VS?

Ha, maybe that's how Ryu gets that hole in his chest. He gets hit by Oni's U1. All the evil hadou puncturing him could've drove him mad with power :p.

Well if there wasn't an improved Replay-Channel and Endless Mode, I wouldn't even consider buying it just for 4 unnecessary and highly abuseable characters (Evil Ryu / Oni / Yun / Yang).

But after reading that a PC version is also on the way, It might be possible to duck out on the patched XBOX version and buy the PC version afterwards.

So if I decide not to get the AE DLC, I can still end up playing AE players online with say, the non-nerfed-to-hell version of Guile? Interesting...

does anyone know if e.ryu can loop that overhead kick attack with cr. mp into overhead attack so on and so forth?

@70 There are lots ways they could put in Urien's aegis and Oro's rocks that would work in SF4. It wouldn't be exactly the same but none of the 3rd strike characters that are already in are exactly the same in SF4. In fact everyone in the game has been changed a little. Converting them to SF4 is certainly not a reason to keep them out.

It probably doesn't really matter at this point anyway.

At this point though, I root for Urien and Oro in SF5. SF4 might be very well done for, as far as further updates are concerned.

In the trailer, it says that versus battles against regular SSFIV players are supported. So this must mean that regular SSFIV will get the same balance update as AE whether they upgrade or not, right?

No, thats the whole point: there are NO different servers for SSF4 and SSF4AE if you take the preview of destructoid.com into account.

Which means SSF4 players will get all balance updates and can play together with SSF4:AE players without splitting/fragmenting the community. This system is similar to DLC costumes and makes more sense for keeping the player base together.

But only SSF4:AE players will be able to play/select the "new" 4 characters, use advanced Replay-Channels and maybe also Advanced-Endless Battles.
