Well, i think that that theme music kind of clinches that Oni is Akuma's ultimate form...

Okay, I'm actually considering NOT buying this game now that we're stuck with the 3rd Strike cast being the only usable ones.
Way to screw up again, CAPCOM.

Says a free download will enable SF4 players to play AE DLC owners to play online. I dont know if that means Vanilla Sagat can fight against Yun/Yang?? o_O

#8
SomeDude said on April 12, 2011 at 8:33 a.m.

Ofc not, just means that u can play with ppl who bought the DLC update.
You won't be able to pick different versions of a character, dunno how ppl came up with that idea..

Still,in my own little naieve world I was expecting some new character announcements..

"At the beginning, AE! We have DLC and Disc for PS3 and 360!! Release date is 7th June. DLC's Price 14.99 USD. ;D via ついっぷる/twipple"

I wait the 7th June!!!

From 1UP.com:

"Luckily, Super Street Fighter IV players who opt not to purchase the Arcade Edition DLC or disc won't be punished with a fragmented community, as a free update will allow players of any version of Super Street Fighter IV to duke it out online. You'll be able to fight against the new Arcade Edition fighters without buying the DLC or disc, though you can't actually play as the new fighters. However, if you're playing against a new fighter while using Super Street Fighter IV, the standard rules will apply for the battle as opposed to the balancing tweaks for the Arcade Edition.

The Arcade Edition DLC will launch worldwide on June 7 for $14.99 (U.S.) or the roughly equivalent amount in your region, while the console disc versions will hit stores later in the month (June 24 is confirmed for Europe) at a "price that won't break the bank," according to the Capcom presentation."

@8 I sure hope they'll do something like that. Yun and Yang deserve a proper assbeating, and I can't think of anyone more capable than good old vanilla Sagat.

#16
LordJim said on April 12, 2011 at 8:51 a.m.

@16 if by 'deliberately', you mean actuallyh improving balance, since people forget in SSF4 the largely unusable characters below mid-tier, than sure.
You can still play online regardless

So no 3S online info?

#18
goukibuki said on April 12, 2011 at 9:02 a.m.

@17,

Yes, you right, half the cast in Super couldn't compete against the top tier characters.

In AE, 3/4 of the cast cant compete against the top tier in AE.

#19

#20
SquidBiskets said on April 12, 2011 at 9:08 a.m.

@12 That's... Dumb, haha... Seriously, why can't they just make the balance patch mandatory... So if I don't download AE, and my opponent picks one of the 4 new characters, I have to play as the old SSF4 version of my character instead of the new AE version? That's so dumb.

#21
raymk said on April 12, 2011 at 9:08 a.m.

@17 its SSF4 balance is not 3 characters at the top with 2 or 3 other usuable characters. Oh well I wasn't going to buy this anyway I was just waiting for evo to play it.

PC gets AE? No DLC? Wow.

I am surprised. Greediness is so common these days, I expected them to just release Super and put AE as DLC to get more money.

As for consoles, the whole "playing with old characters" thing is a bit retarded... Balance update should apply to everybody. I have no idea why they're doing it that way, it makes no sense.

Well we sort of knew this was coming but I'm not sure I will be interested anymore. All I want is the balance tweaks and it is still confusing if will get the tweaks if we don't want to get the new characters etc.

I can care less for Yun, Yang, Oni and E Ryu. Not interested at all. If Karin, Alex, Elena and rolento were added, Then that would be great! Wishful thinking I know but there is always a chance. Still there are too many SF characters they can choose from so It would be very difficult to get everyone in. all anyways.

I think Mortal Kombat will have all the characters from their past series (aside for DC) through DLC. Which is great for MK fans. I never liked the Gameplay so I will watch from the wings.

Unless they make it so that the slow pc is the one punished by skipping frames on their end i will not buy it for pc. Slown down my faster pc because of their crappy pc is beyond retarded... make THEM suffer and have to upgrade not make me regret buying their pc product... ffs.

what were really paying for is the 4 characters and better replay because even if you don't get the AE dlc you still get the free patch that gives you the AE balance which is what allows you to still play ppl who have bought the AE dlc/disk

#50
SFtheWolf said on April 12, 2011 at 10:18 a.m.

does someone who plays AE can say us if yun/yang have been refined in this video ?

#55
GUNNAH_MAN said on April 12, 2011 at 10:51 a.m.

@HighOnPCP

if player x has ssf4 he will still be able to vs player y who has AE because player x gets a free patch that gives AE balancing which allows you to vs player y, player x will just miss out on the 4 new characters and new replay channel

#56
GUNNAH_MAN said on April 12, 2011 at 10:53 a.m.

@HighOnPCP

when you buy AE dlc/disk your really just buying 4 characters and a new replay channel

I would only have considered buying this to stay up to date as I waited for one more big add on to SF4 with some of the characters I really want. Karin, Urien, Oro etc.. These twins and clones don't interest me.

If this is it for SF4 then I am done. It's been a good run but if there was ever a SF game to milk a little longer, it was this one. Sigh...

#64

every1 else can eat a derk! ya all know ya gonna get AE regardless eventually. so y bother talkin this mess? cuz karin ain't in? KARIN?? she sucks ass!always did, that's y we never saw her again!Urien and Oro could never be put in IV w/o being conpletely broken unless they remove aegis, oro rocks and sa2 loops.elena w/healing would be broken too.untech kd healing? no thanks.

kinda sad bout no rolento/hugo but still a day 1 buy.all u autopilot ryu scrubs step ur sh!t up or stay free!

Of course SF3 characters won't be the same in SF4. If you want them to be the same then play SF3.

damn the yun and yang players where so bad you can see how hard they edited that trailer. i think the yang player was the most terrible since they edited all his fails away so noticeably

#69
U4iA27 said on April 12, 2011 at 1:13 p.m.

but if u notice mo123,any char that was put in this game was put in with the intent of keeping them as faithful to their original selves as possible within reason.now how can that be made possible if uriens aegis, oros rocks or elenas healing would have to be removed for the sake of balance? not possible, esp in urien and oros case.common sense would tell any1 that w/o parry both of them are beyond broken. and healing in fgs is broken in itself.esp if only 1 person can use it.

#70
Yakitsukuse said on April 12, 2011 at 1:14 p.m.

I'm loling at all the gripe about the new characters. For the record, I don't like any of these 4 characters and I have absolutely no intention of playing any of them. But I am very excited about this patch, because of the way it'll change the game mechanic to be more aggressive, which I prefer, and because all of the characters I play got significantly buffed, namely Dee Jay and Makoto. There is so much more to this patch than just the new characters that are being added.

• Replay Follower: Be able to follow up to 5 separate player replays making it easier to find your favorite players’ latest replay.

This feature I am extremely hyped about, Zangitan, here I come! xD

AE is a worthy upgrade. They're giving us a superior online experience (with features that I've wanted for a while now) and let's be honest, Yun dominating the game is better than Ryu or Balrog, lol.

#75
boobee_cakes said on April 12, 2011 at 1:56 p.m.

question, I'm positive, online, it will be pretty much a slider, between SSFIV and AE, but in VS, will I be able to pick which version of the character i want to use, like in Hyper Street Fighter II in the Anniversary Collection? or will it be like a switch, where I pick which version before I play in offline VS?

#76
Nightzero said on April 12, 2011 at 2:47 p.m.

Ha, maybe that's how Ryu gets that hole in his chest. He gets hit by Oni's U1. All the evil hadou puncturing him could've drove him mad with power :p.

#78
Rave_Zero said on April 12, 2011 at 3:53 p.m.

Well if there wasn't an improved Replay-Channel and Endless Mode, I wouldn't even consider buying it just for 4 unnecessary and highly abuseable characters (Evil Ryu / Oni / Yun / Yang).

But after reading that a PC version is also on the way, It might be possible to duck out on the patched XBOX version and buy the PC version afterwards.

#79
MasterCheeze said on April 12, 2011 at 5:28 p.m.

#81
mo123 said on April 12, 2011 at 6:23 p.m.

@70 There are lots ways they could put in Urien's aegis and Oro's rocks that would work in SF4. It wouldn't be exactly the same but none of the 3rd strike characters that are already in are exactly the same in SF4. In fact everyone in the game has been changed a little. Converting them to SF4 is certainly not a reason to keep them out.

It probably doesn't really matter at this point anyway.

#82
gtfopanda said on April 12, 2011 at 6:43 p.m.

Urien and Oro... man, I wish we had them.

Along with the Twins, I like them too.

At this point though, I root for Urien and Oro in SF5. SF4 might be very well done for, as far as further updates are concerned.

In the trailer, it says that versus battles against regular SSFIV players are supported. So this must mean that regular SSFIV will get the same balance update as AE whether they upgrade or not, right?

#86
XNO said on April 13, 2011 at 1:45 a.m.

we don't know if we re going to have access the true arcade user matches... i doubt it, we gonna be on different server

so to whose are excited about daigo matches, i wouldnt be so excited...

#87
Rave_Zero said on April 13, 2011 at 5:23 a.m.

@XNO
No, thats the whole point: there are NO different servers for SSF4 and SSF4AE if you take the preview of destructoid.com into account.

Which means SSF4 players will get all balance updates and can play together with SSF4:AE players without splitting/fragmenting the community. This system is similar to DLC costumes and makes more sense for keeping the player base together.

But only SSF4:AE players will be able to play/select the "new" 4 characters, use advanced Replay-Channels and maybe also Advanced-Endless Battles.
