Capcom employees, Rey Jimenez and Christian Svensson, left some messages on the Unity Boards responding to fan questions. Topics range from the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 patch, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition to the press embargo for Captivate.
Any chance the competitive community can be consulted on these things in the future? A lot of the players are wary of patches this early in Marvel vs. Capcom 3's life, especially considering that glitches were such a big part of the previous game's meta-game. — d3v
Rey Jimenez: They are ;)
My expectaions are at Level 2 for Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition. I'm expecting an arcade perfect transition, graphic filters, and great online, basically, what Ono said. Should I be looking forward to even more? No need to elaborate on what that "more" is. But should I raise my expectations past Level 2? — Everyone's Friend
Svensson: I hesitate to say because doing so says too much. My recommendation: keep your excitement level 2 and await more information.
Will the netcode and the interface menu suck for SF3 Third Strike Online Edition? That is the question ... — MasoDx
Svensson: I'm going to let you judge all of that for yourself soon enough. No need to take my word for anything.
Will there be a Super Marvel vs. Capcom 3?
Svensson: Guys, the game hasn't even been out two whole months yet... way too soon to be talking about stuff like this.
Why are you guys embargoing information revealed at Captivate?
Svensson: If there weren't an embargo, then all you'd get is the most surface information on our announcements because it would then become a race for who can post "the gist" first. And that doesn't serve your needs as a consumer or our needs as a marketing organization trying to get more than just the basics across to our consumers.
Nor does it let the media do a proper quality job that distinguishes their work from that of the person who sat next to them. There will be producer interviews and a lot more access for these guys.
And lastly, all of that information in some form will be right here at Unity too. If you don't want to pay for information, you will be able to get it all here that day. What's more there are Unity members attending who can give you their impressions on all of this stuff. They will see everything the media will, as they see it.
As I've always said, I appreciate your patience.
I'm really hoping they don't screw up 3sOE with crap netcode. There is no excuse if they do.
Next time they do some patching, they need to buff Hsien-ko. Apart from assist she's useless, and it sucks because I love that character.
"Will there be a Super Marvel vs. Capcom 3?"
What he really wanted to say was "Yes, but we want more people to buy our incomplete game before we announced a newer iteration coming out next year with the stuff that should have been in the original game in the first place"
I mean, his answer wasn't a straight up "No" so obviously they are at least considering it (or already working on it - who knows). And given the success of Super Street Fighter 4 would anyone really be surprised if they tried to pull off the same scheme with their other big franchise?
@ #7:
If he said no people would bitch about Capcom 'lying' if/when they did release Hyper MvC3. This is why you never give yes/no answers in interviews.
People are sucks marks online. Try to imagine their perspective and match that with how foolish internet kids get online.
@3: Sentinel's health wasn't even the problem, and the nerf didn't fix anything. All that matters now is his assist needs to be called more carefully. Sentinel's damage was the only issue, he can kill just about any character (plus an assist) with x-factor and two meters. I have yet to hear a pro say the health nerf was the right one. The patch also came way too early; people were still figuring out stuff in MvC2 years after its release, give the game some time.
This Svensson character is full of BS,but i guess thats part of his job like Ono trolling.
Sentinel is actually even more clutch now since his launcher does 20,000 more damage than it did before. He benefits even more from X-Factor now.
Honestly, not that much has changed for him. He can still deal stupid damage at any range, his armor is still ridiculous, he still has the best set of tools in the game, assist is still godlike, etc. #9 is right.
I'm not saying he should be nerfed more, but they could have nerfed him in a better way.
Lol but all jokes aside, it seems like people only noticed over powered characters if their tactics are easy to pull off. but if a character needs to be played by someone moderately skilled in execution to show how unfair they can make the game, then its somehow not as big of a problem. I cant wait till someone starts posting X-factorless touch of death combos with Viewtiful Joe.
@9
Nah, I don't think the nerf is that bad. The main thing it does is make it an actual risk to throw out his assist, unlike before where you had 2 or 3 chances because of his health. So while his assist is still the best in the game, it's not stupidly useful to throw out all the time due to his health
Cant wait to hear what Captivate had to offer:-). Also since people are talking about it, I personally think the Sentinel Nerf was good. He still is very effective character, just less scrubby since people have to play more skillfully with him instead of rely on his super high stamina. Just step your game up Sent players;-)
@27 Nope, I don't agree with you. No more buffs, no more nerfs, no more screwing with the game's balance because of all the new/low-tier players whining and complaining, as said in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Baj6_n...
The game is still new, and it doesn't need people who are new to fighting games to call for balance changes they know nothing about or how to design.
This isn't a direct attack at you, sir, just a general grievance I'm having.
@12: I should've been a little more clear. Sentinel can kill people with 2 meters, level 1 X-Factor and close to no effort. Not every character can do that.
@9: I don't think the nerf is completely awful, but I feel it didn't solve the issue of Sentinel as a character (as opposed to an assist). While drones can't be called out as recklessly, I don't think that is a huge deal. Proper assist calling was already a huge part of the game. I also must disagree with drones being the best assist in the game, I think that title belongs to Gustaff Fire.
@11
I know, right? It's like they're a...
BUSINESS, or something...
Honestly I thought they were my personal friends who would spend tons of money and time developing a game and give it to me for free, or at least try not to make a profit off of it.
What a topsy turvy world.
"Svensson: Guys, the game hasn't even been out two whole months yet... way too soon to be talking about stuff like this."
They better not milk Marvel.... But 2 months is plenty of time. Look at Vanilla SF4.
@ 15
LOL Sent is NOT the best Character in the game. Why are you whining over the damage output. Wesker kills anybody in the game with 3 meters but builds more meter so its pretty much the same. He has better speed better mobilitty no bad match ups except maybe Ammy. Ammy is also better than Sent and so his Jean. Sent armor is a good tool but it doesn't compasente for his Weaknesses. He has the bigger hitbox in the game he is slow as f**k. You can instant overhead him all day and about all the characters can jump loop him. At 900 000 health he becomes a high risk high reward character. You can die ine one go or kill your opponent in one go. Fine by me.
I really, REALLY wish people would stop assuming glitches make the game better. There is nothing inherently about using a glitch that makes you pro or that makes the game more fun.
I also really wish people would stop comparing Marvel 2 to everything. Marvel 2's competitive play was a complete accident, and should not be a model for future design considering how broken it was.
Either give us Super MvC3 or never make the crossover ever again because the game has ruined my fighting game genre. I can't use my old street fighter combos anymore because of simple button lay out.
I wonder who they "consulted" when patching Sentinel
