Capcom's Rey Jimenez recently spoke about the patch to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that removed some bugs and also dropped Sentinel's health. Some users claimed the patch was a reaction to complaints from the community about Sentinel being too strong, but according to Rey, this update was planned months in advance, even before the release of the game. Why hasn't Desk been hired by Capcom? He's found a lot of bugs in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. — Snow
Rey Jimenez: Not to take anything away from Desk, but the development team were already aware of a lot of the issues that he's found. Maybe not everything, but most of them. The patch that was released recently addresses (or at least attempts to) a good number of these issues and these were in the works well before the game was released.
Releasing a patch 1 month after the game launches takes 2-3 months of work before launch. It's just a simple matter of fact that game will always have bugs. There will always be bugs that are found after the game goes gold and before the launch of the title. Fortunately, they can be patched out after release. If there are more bugs that appear detrimental to the game, they will be addressed. Like mentioned before, some issues may not require a fix and can actually add to the character of the game, like in Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
All that being said, Desk is incredibly talented and has an innate talent and understanding of game engines, which is why he is able to find a lot of these issues and others in the public aren't (in such a short time frame). I can't speak for him, but if he has the desire to be a tester, that's something he can pursue. I don't know the guy, but maybe he's content with his day job and likes to keep games as his hobby. Maybe your questions are rhetorical, but it seems presumptuous to me.
Will we ever get a free costume pack opportunity again?
Svensson: No current plans for other offers like that right now. I think we only offered one free with the SFIV collectors edition. I don't believe we've ever offered one free at any other time (could be mistaken but I don't recall it).
Was hoping for more to be said from them. Where the hell have they been? I feel like I haven't heard from Seth Killian practically since the game came out. New stuff comes out, and all we hear are official announcements or cheesy facebook/unity blog posts. And it never comes from people that matter.
I called it first, I knew this patch was planned before. It does'nt make sense to make a patch on the current issues this soon without really giving it time (Speaking about Sent's health). Fixing bugs takes a long time. Also about Desk, I never understood why you guys keep asking Capcom to hire him, Desk probably does'nt even want to work for Capcom, I think something like that is up to Desk to decide, it's his life not yours, if you care about the position that much just sign up to be a tester yourself, they will take your application. Im sure if Desk wanted to work for Capcom he is competent enough to apply for a position.
@ 2 LMAO x 2
@4 Seth works under Svens and Seth is probably taking a nice long vacation, don't forget he has a broken thumb he is nursing, can the man get back to his private life for a minute?
@5 I agree it's not fair that I buy something I want to show off only to have to share with other players who bought it as well, it's kind of pointless to even buy it in that case.
"Will we ever get a free costume pack opportunity again?"
LOL
Did someone seriously just ask Capcom if they would ever give us free bonuses again? Does this guy not know that Capcom is now second only to Activision when it comes to greed and shameless ways to milk their fans dry?
And lol @ 2. Hit it right on the head. Waste of a question. Capcom has changed. Don't expect free stuff ever again. I hope you like paying for content that's already on the disc, because that's all we're gonna get anymore.
So Capcom is OK with Magneto and Zero's long repititive combos?
And Sentinel having every tool in the game? (Sent and Pheonix's lvl 3 X-Factor time needs to be cut in half)
And the DHC glitch is not a glitch?
And the patch only fixed the Spencer Glitch for characters Desk did not show?
Captain America's Shield infinite is on purpose?
"All that being said, Desk is incredibly talented and has an innate talent and understanding of game engines, which is why he is able to find a lot of these issues and others in the public aren't (in such a short time frame). I do hope he pursues such a career; at least if it pays him well. Although I've heard such a job has a lot of hours, and it might take the joy of games away from him... plus he probably wouldn't have a lot of time for his band. lol
These people at Capcom are full of crap,in especial
Svensson.
Capcom just rushed MvC3 because their tight game schedule, all of us waited 11 years for a unfinished game.
(zero plays like that in his home games
and Amazon did the free costume pack for SSFIV :P)
"Not to take anything away from Desk, but the development team were already aware of a lot of the issues that he's found."
Yeah! and they didn't give a f*ck enough to fix them before the game was released, that makes you equally as incompetent than patching the glitch and failing at it.
12 and 14 speak the truth.
This game was rushed, and for all those beta builds CAPCOM paraded in front of us, some characters are still more broken than others.
EmeraldFont: "And lol @ 2. Hit it right on the head. Waste of a question. Capcom has changed. Don't expect free stuff ever again. I hope you like paying for content that's already on the disc, because that's all we're gonna get anymore."
When do you claim Capcom was giving you a bunch of free stuff?
This guy didn't ask them why they planned to release Sentinel with that much health and then take it away?
People complaining about Zero are simply salty. Noobs are repetitive and lame with Zero. I'm an S-Rank Maverick Hunter. Get with the Genmu Zero.
I dont think the game was rushed. It was a business and contracts need to be upheld and deadlines met. After the disc went gold, they couldn't fix any more issues even if they wanted to. They would have to wait for the game to be in homes and such to supply the patch.
What I DO think Capcom needs to do is warn us or provide patch notes like MMORPG companies do when a patch is made. But I think Sent probably plays a bit more fairly now if anything. High health and High Damage makes no sense. Lowering his health justifies his ridiculously high damage output
XFactor, eh Yeah its a bit broken, but if you are fighting a team with a Sent or Phoenix on it. Snap them the f**k in and force them to burn xfactor early or kill them. There are ways to to kill both these characters before they become a problem.
Nearly every tournament I watch where a Phoenix ( Dark ) wins a match is because the other person spent the whole time giving her meter by smacking up the previous characters.
But ah well, I was cool with the patch, I just thought it shouldn't have been a surprise. But thats Capcom for ya I guess =/
P.S. Sorry for any typos or grammar errors, Im not proofreading this lol
XBOX: Kreative Mente
@10, yeah, zero and mag are a bit broken, but I've still been able to outsmart good zero/mag teams. And Sent may still have every tool now, but he has a glass jaw just like arthur. I always used Arthur anyways, but I think Sent's way more balanced now, you can easily take him out in a single 1-2 meter combo. Probably some meterless combos can kill him, too.
This game does feel like its rushed. Lack of content. "But its a fighting game" WHO CARES! If its a fighting game then where are the other modes? Where is that story that we were so eagered (Can't spell it right) to play? What happened to the comic? ive heard no word if they are doing the mvc3 comic or not. SOME of the Marvel characters are weird and does not fit in the game. And here i thought these characters were put for a story. And i really hate these top tiers in like, EVERY ONLINE MATCH! Nothing new, the same sh!t every god damn match, No unique team.
Is this a joke? When the game was in its first week of release and everyone screamed Sentinel was OP, Capcom replied back with "Sentinel is completely balanced" (well at least Seth K did).
The patch was scheduled 3 months before release? Sorry, but how hard is it to look in the game code and change one digit to 900,000 that is Sentinel's health?
@ #26 CrossoverFighterRyu93
1) Uhh...event mode, mission mode, Shadow mode etc.?
2) There was no huge story that Capcom was hyping
3) The comic is for the Limited Edition owners
4) All MARVEL characters fit in the game
5) Who can you blame? If people are using team scrub (Dante, Wesker, Sentinel etc.), then YOU should start using different teams. I'm using Magneto, Arthur and THOR. Besides, the game came a month ago.
i dont get why people complain about phoenix. i never seen phoenix even win a tourney. QCF + P2! how hard is that sh!t?
#10 Why would Capcom not want long combos? If you can do them isn't that part of the point of playing? Unless of course you want to see 3 characters die by solid zoning the whole time. Which would be very boring. #24 Zero and Magneto are far from broken, that's their design plain and simple, deal with it or play something else.
Waahhhhhhh
this game has really strong characters
wahhhh this game needs to be patched so people can get nerfed
wahhhh i suck at this game, so instead of learning it i bitch about over powered characters
wahhhh
Seriously, don't ruin marvel like you guys ruined sf with all your demands for nerfs.
#32 I've seen Phoenix (not Dark Phoenix) do fairly well, so there are certainly people who can use her well. And yeah, that is a strategy I do not see very often (at least among the amateur community online, like myself) when I choose her.
I think, "is this guy going to try to snap her in, or what?" They never do, and I hardly ever end up using her (unless I lose, of course).
And, yeah, it takes a long time to develop games. Stop whining like everything can be done at the snap of a finger. Capcom has priorities to continue to run as a BUSINESS. The patches are free, meaning they ain't makin' no dolla billz for when they work on it. WHICH is only an assumption, as I'm not entirely sure how they work, but come on. "Unfinished game?" I think what you're looking for is a PERFECT game, which, well, isn't going to happen.
By that standard, MVC2 and all its preused sprite glory was an unfinished game. Capcom seems to have thought about it enough to release the game in a timely manner, so to them, and it should be to you as well, it is finished, but just not as you'd like it.
Oh, and you know, if they SAY Sentinel's health was nerfed months ago... then well, since they are the people who did it, they're PROBABLY more credible than you are. I understand that you're upset, but it's really not that big of a deal, you know? It's not like his health is SO detrimental that he's going to die in like, two hits. Take on the challenge! "I can still kick your ass with Sentinel even though his health is a little lower."
Not all this whine there, whine here nonsense.
You guys are something special. The crazy ones, I mean.
I don't understand why people are giving Capcom such a hard time, to be honest.
Yes, they're going too far with the DLC. Shadow Mode for a dollar? Um...they said it'd be free. But I don't think it's just cause to tear their heads off. More characters? Yeah, I'd love to have some. But if I were them, there's no way I'd read the comments talking all that crap and pretty much going "rage" mode and demanding things.
As far as the patch goes, it is what it is. I bet a LOT of people would be complaining if the game was pushed to a much later date. We may not have gotten EVERYTHING, but we got the MAIN portion of it. Can't people be content with that until more comes along? It may be in the form of characters you have to buy, but that's how things work now-a-days. And there's nothing you can do to change it, honestly.
Team Scrub? God forbid people play characters because they actually LIKE them. That's just not possible. Or is it?
Well, to make matters bad, Mega Man Universe was cancelled. i think megaman's been getting the shaft by capcom these days...
People have to just face it, games are going to have bugs. You can. Credit Capcom for patching some or you critique them. But every video game developers have this problem, there's simply no way to catch em all. But i think having an opportunity to have someone like Desk do test would be a huge plus if both sides have that desire.
I call BS on this. Why would you intentionally put glitches into a product where you know it's going to ruin the experience / fun and at the same time, plan on a patch to fix it. The OP Sentinel can be overlooked but the Zero glitch and others where it displaces the character in a very usual way cannot. Capcom is just trying to cover their butts b/c all the glitches Desk discovered.
Games are always going to have bugs? Pfft. Not if you program it right.
We can always patch it later...
Lazy.
@2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 27, 29, 40, 41
You all are so right. I have said it before an I'm saying it again, that Capcom needs to hire sensible people and fire all these fails like Sven and Seth. Oh, and not to mention that "Phh Phh Phh" sounding, Snow. Idk, but he whenever I hear him on stream, he sounds like he's been hungry for several days. Lol.
Yes, a much much better question would have been about the alt. colors for alt. costumes. But I don't think they will EVER give you all that for free. Greediness at its extreme. Lol.
And yes, if they knew all the flaws, then why didn't they fix them in first place? What lame reasoning. Seems like they are having a hard time figuring out what they're actually doing. Lol.
omg as someone who is actually a programmer and has studied code, java/c++, I am embarrassed to see some of these comments. If you think a game like this is not going to have bugs then you can fly your ignorant ass to blissful town. Its not gonna happen.
There are too many different variables , interactions, situations, and restrictions on top of there being many people working on the same code. There is ways to situate less bugs, but it would also really simplify the game and its fighting engine. I'm impressed they made the game the way it is right now with 3d models
I do agree with the game being rushed to the market, with a heavily modified TvC engine as the basic test tool to use for MvC3. However, some of these comments seem to not understand the industry at all.
A patch is supposed to be full-fledged packets that fixes a ton of problems, not just the nitpicky ones and call it a day. With how extremely complicated coding has become, if it creates more problems, then a "simple re-edit" would have not been the best of things, possibly making things worse.
If people are whining about characters being too powerful, then people should simply wait longer while actual stuff that does not professionally belong in the game such as the Zero Glitch, online problems, etc. gets fixed first. I swear, too many people think that Sentinel's health drop is more important to fix than game-breaking glitches. Can't please everyone; put up with it for now or play different games that fit your boat. As much as I think X-Factor is the most stupidest thing in the game (from a 7-second match shown by Queering Aids to multiple OCV's), I would understand that game glitches are the most priority to fix.
The MMORPG method of patching does not technically work on fighting games like these because the majority of the market is NOT all online, unlike WoW etc. That's why releasing small updates or patches every week or so is not practical and causes Capcom to lose more money.
@46:
"The MMORPG method of patching does not technically work on fighting games like these because the majority of the market is NOT all online, unlike WoW etc. That's why releasing small updates or patches every week or so is not practical and causes Capcom to lose more money."
Agreed.
It is a shame that some of the fanboys on here defending Capcom like they are paying them or something..
I give credit Where credit is due, but Capcom has drop the ball on MVC3. Period. They released MVC3 too early and it showed. All that talk about the was patch was planned before release is GARBAGE!!! NO MORE EXCUSES FROM CAPCOM.. Stop all the lies. They released an half-assed product..
I hate when I read some of these stories and it has Capcom people speaking out their A$$. I have been in QA for 5 years and to say "for a patch 1 month after release, takes 2-3 months of work before release" REALLY!! WTF are you talking about?
Doesn't matter what is being work on, you have to submit roughly 1-2 months before release(and this greatly depends on how good of a standing you have with said console manufacturer and how greatly they value your product for profit) , at that point game breaking issues found have to be fixed before resubmitting, if no game breaking issues are found and you are approved fairly quick (again this varies) that means you have in worst case scenario 2-3 weeks (best case would a month or over) before release to start work on either a day zero patch (release patch) or on a patch 1 for after release.
So now you have 2-3 weeks before release and the month after release and that would be roughly 2 months, but you have to subtract the time in which you have to submit the patch for approval and for the patch to actually go live and that can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to even a month depending on how backed up certification is for a given platform.
So in the end I ranted for nothing but, Patch 1 was most likely already done before release meant as a day zero patch, but with the crying over sent, within the first week they probably added a hotfix for that and they were just waiting for release which took them into the first month after release. But of actual capcom work it only took them 2-3 weeks and not more than a month.
And given the time frame of the patch that would explain why some of Desk's earlier glitches were fixed but not some of the ones that appeared say 2-3 weeks into the games release.
In the end Capcom will keep spewing lies to justify their products condition. but whatever I'll still play most of their games, cause their fun, but don't treat me like a Moron Capcom, you guys are shady as F*** and the only reason why people play your games are cause they are fun, if it wasn't for that key factor you would've been bankrupted already.
P.S. big ups to Desk, if it wasn't for him and people like him these companies would sit around counting their money, people like them keeps these companies honest (or at least as honest as possible).
@50 Nice explanation. This clears a lot of things. And yes, people like Desk keep the lazy Capcom staff busy. Somehow Capcom has managed to keep their company going because people are in love with their titles. In other words, they have been lucky. But over the years, they have made some very horrible choices and hired a lot of lazy, sh**ty people in their staff.
Lol at Capcom claiming they were aware of the glitches, and yet the spencer glitch works on people not displayed in desks video?
Okay, they need to stop playing games with the consumers, moreover, patching things like characters so early, only ends with the company cannibalizing itself.
Their intent is to re-balance and such, however by doing it at the slightest sign of imbalance, causes problems for us because we don't know what beats what without being exposed to the game for long enough. Changing things while we learn only makes it harder us to discover and consequently makes it that much harder to fix and re balance. and may develop newer or more problematic issues.
Honestly I'm really happy we got such an early patch, or a patch at all. I like the precedent this sets and don't think there's a reason to complain about finally getting positive balance and glitch fixes for a retail fighting game.
I'm sure this won't stop people from being reactionary themselves in calling the Sentinel balancing "knee-jerk" though. I still can't believe SRK was being that whiny.
I find it funny on how they had the patch planned and cannot put in a spectator mode. And also the alt costumes should have alt colors. But speaking of alt costumes, wht will they think of next, they give thor his old outfit, ryu and chris. What will they give Chun li,akuma, shuma gorath, sentinal, storm, magneto, deadpool, morrigan has had the sme outfit in like forever. Give the fns what we deserve,More stages , more characters,
Yeah. Capcom Fighting Game fans are SO much worse than Sonic fans. But they are just lazy.
I've taken a look at a freaking 1996-1999 engine (Unreal Engine, thank you. You can make so many things from it.), and it's INTENSE what all goes into it at such an early stage for Engines. It seems to me that before the Wii, people waited for their Patches and Updates, heck, I remember when you had to deal with what you got because of the lack of Online Play. Unless you were a PC owner, in which case, you needed the patches unless you pirated the game. I then took a look at attempting a 'fixed' patch that made one specific weapon really, really, REALLY strong. It took like a year with my skill. My Father made weapons for this game. It took him weeks. I know a guy in England who graduated from College at 16. He makes VEHICLES like from HALO 3 in this 1999 game engine, something that was labeled impossible. It took him weeks, but since he got the formula down, it takes him shorter time, 1-2 weeks max. He's brilliant.
Now, with this generation of Capcom Fans, it seems complaining is the popular thing now a days. The days of dealing with what you have is over, and besides, the new editions of Street Fighter II was Capcom's way of patching the previous versions. So, if Capcom DID release a new version of MvC3, it'd be a MAJOR patch with new editions, like Super and AE. I'd gladly pay for it. GLADLY, especially if it came with Psylocke and/or Nimrod, and Roll and/or Servbot. I'm just happy got a patch out. Just a question, how many people have ACTUALLY lost/won using the glitches Desk has found? The folk who won won't say stuff because they might want them to stay. The folks who lost will generally complain, or just take it up theirs and enjoy the game (Me. I fought a Mags that spammed L EM Disruptor. I was X-23, Gouki, Wesker. I can't beat that, personal issue. Work on it I am). And then we have (What I think from knowledge of this place...) Eventscrubs who could complain about SFxT being the worst game ever without it being even made. I think that it'll be awesome. Now, I'm glad they got the patches out! Hell, I'm glad the games out! They got it out so you guys would SHUT UP about the whole "Wtf where my Mahvel vs Mahvel 3?". And it caused an even bigger crap storm. Wow. I feel terrible for Capcom.
Capcom decided to take this path when making a game for "everyone." Since a majority of the American fanbase likes to whine instead of thinking, all Capcom will get is complains from people who are ass at the game. They're not bad because they don't have talent, their bad because they don't have the discipline to become good.
MvC3 does look rushed....but it would have bugs, all "programs" or "ai" will have bugs when it's finished. That's what testing and patching is for.
funny
