TheGamingVault interviews Daigo Umehara Noticed that TheGamingVault.com conducted an interview with Daigo Umehara at Super vs. Battle 20-X via SRK. It actually ends up being a solid read, as they discuss controller preferences, tournaments, the rumored SSF4 characters and quite a bit more.

Here's a copy and paste.

I’m wondering if there’s any characters you’d like to see added to [SSF4]?

Daigo: Yun, Yun would be good.

And Yang?

Daigo: Yang… Yang is very similar to Fei Long, so it would be an overlap. But Yun, I really like. [Long pause, thinking] Also Rolento. Rolento and Yun.

You’re famed for Ryu, but you’ve been seen to use others as well. Outside of Ryu, do you have any favourites? Do you have a particular preference of character styles – quarter-circle characters over charge characters or grapplers, for example?

Daigo: My preference is mainly characters who have the tools but aren’t overly powerful. Control style doesn’t matter too much, as long as a character has good basics, there’s a lot to play with. I’m not really a fan of ‘big’ characters. For grapplers and such I don’t really care if it’s a sub-character for fun, but it’s not very likely I’d ever play as a ‘big’ character in a tournament!

Good interview, but it would have been nice if they asked his opinions on the VS. series or non-Capcom fighting games.

Hehe, I hope Rolento comes!

See....even Daigo thinks it's a waste to put both the twins in, rflmao. Oh well, both better kick ass.

Well he was asked before why he doesn't play BlazBlue because he was a former Guilty Gear champ and he said the game isn't serious enough for him. Not sure what he meant by that.

to #11 what else could he mean? he meant it sucks...simple as that...
to #10 no he isn't

to everyone - does anyone else besides me care for R.Mika, Maki, Elena and Karin ?

As the owner of The Gaming Vault, I just wanted to say that I'm honoured that you guys reported about our interview. I've been an avid reader of Event Hubs since getting into Street Fighter IV, and its quite humbling when a site you respect and look towards for information and help so much also takes notice of your stuff work as well.

Alex (the guy who conducted the interview) is a huge Super Street Fighter IV fan, and it was a huge honour for him to interview one of the best and most respected players in the competitive gaming scene. I was just as surprised when I found out that he'd nabbed the interview, but it's clear that Daigo himself is a very well educated and genuinely approachable kind of bloke.

Glad you guys liked the interview!

Alright you haters and knuckleheads. You heard it from someone relevant in the community. Yun/Yang aren't garbage but their presence makes Gen, Rufus, Fei Long, and to a lesser extent Juri and Guy pointless since they (Yun/Yang) are infinitely better and inherit their moves. I mean why would ANYBODY play Ryu or Ken if Akuma had better health, stun and their great recovery options from SRK/Hadokens?

See where I'm going with that?

@16
So u think Yun and Yang will be exactly like their counterparts from 3rd strike?
Neither of the 3rd Strike characters stayed the same as he/she was.. at least the makoto players will understand, the basic idea and moves are the same but it plays completely different. So where do u take the idea from that Yun and Yang are going to be "infinitely better" than Feilong, Rufus, Gen, Guy and for some odd reason juri..? (because SHE got the Geneijin Ultra or what? i really dont get it). These characters may have some similarities but i got the feeling no one cares about the differences. You even compared Ryu Ken and Akuma and just pointed out the differences, while u only see similiarities when comparing Yun/Yang and the existing cast. No offense, but "no" i dont see where you're going with that.

@18
Makoto is bad example. She's a shadow of her former self. Now Ibuki and Dudley are practically the same character but because of the SSF4 they've lost and gained tools to still make them viable and they actually HAVE new moves. Yun/Yang just jacked some of the best moves from other characters without really doing much to stand out but ended up being better than any of those characters. If Akuma didn't have awful HP then I'm sure he'd be favored over Ken and Ryu.
