Yoshinori Ono left a few more messages on his Twitter account responding to questions from the community. He mostly just rules out stuff that fans have been wondering about, but also mentions Keiji Inafune, who recently left Capcom, will be missed.
Now that Keiji Inafune is gone will it be easier to get a new Darkstalkers made, or was it a bad thing that he left?
Ono: He [was] very understanding about fighting games. [That's the] answer. ;(
So, no new characters in SSFIV AE besides Yun and Yang?
Ono: Ummm... I can't say now. ;P
When will we see U.S. version of Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition?
Ono: We don't have plans for a U.S. arcade version... ;(
When is the next location test for SSF4 Arcade Edition?
Ono: We don't have [a] plan [for one]. Could be [that you'll have to] wait until release time in mid-December. ;D
Svensson is a HUGE supporter of fighting games at Capcom USA and got a bunch of the recent games green lit.
Fighting games have been very successful for them, so they're definitely not going to quit making them because Inafune left.
But... Darkstalkers sounds less likely here, I must admit. I think Inafune really liked Ono and backed him on a new Darkstalkers, at least, that's how it sounded reading Ono's various tweets.
@Struggs
The fundamentals of the Marvel Vs series (Not CVS, my bad, should've been clear.) were implemented into Darkstalkers first. Air blocking, health recovery, advancing guard, air dashing, hopping, flying, custom combo (utility) supers, pursuit attacks, rolling, stacking supers, the magic series (Light -> Medium -> Heavy chaining.) and the birth of EX moves. All in Darkstalkers. Every Marvel game was built upon Darkstalkers' core gameplay elements. Nearly every fighting game before it was a slower paced, chess-like game where combos required mad timing and the characters moved at a slow paced. But Darkstalkers was the franchise that found it's own way.
Obviously I can't say this from personally knowing, but I'm sure that although Inafune has left...the same board meetings where Ono-San kept bringing up DS4 in originally will still be full of the same faces.
If Capcom simply promote someone, then it will be someone who is already hearing those plea's already.
...if they randomly bring in some new guy with no prior Capcom experience then I'm sure they will eventually give it the greenlight.
MvC3 and SFxTekken are no doubt the focal points right now for Capcom (as well as whatever resources are still needed on SSFIV).
Up until recently a lot of people weren't even thinking of Darkstalkers any more, so for it to be constantly seen among Ono's tweets and such...can only be a good thing.
SOo0o0 no SSFIV AE in the US arcades? whaaat? damnn i was looking forward to playing this at the arcades around seattle....
wtf, did they now say that they don't have plans for a U.S. arcade edition??? gonna keep it all to yourselfes ehh you stingy bastards. Capcom really likes to piss off their fans. when you make a new game, give us legitimate info WHEN you decide to give it. and stop bs'in around with teases. bunch of talented but undecicefull sons of b!tches.
@15
There was never a sf4 release to begin with, everything was just imported and i have no doubt that the ae verison will be imported aswell.
Stinks that Inafune is gone. Even Ono shows a sense of sadness for Inafune's departure.
#17: I agree with you on that.
#17
not sure if you misread but he's only talking about the arcade version. there is hardly an arcade scene in the US so making games for it wouldn't be very cost effective. they are going to have the AE as dlc for the US though. (pretty sure at least according to ono's latest tweets)
-_-' their talkling about the AE in ACTUAL ARCADES ppl. AE will come via update or DLC, as like #20 said, the arcade scene in north america is like non-existent now...id go to one, but theres really no point in going to one unless ur hanging out in the mall or something.
Also, just because they aren't making a US version of SSF4 AE doesn't mean a solid amount of arcade owners won't import it over here.
As was done with SF4 arcade: http://www.eventhubs.com/articles/200...
I really hope that Capcom will reconsider and let Ono make DS 4. I would love to see it made. I think making DS HD Remix would be a huge step toward more possibilities for the franchise. I'm for it! Bring me a petition and i will sign!
No love for Inafune but I'm still waiting on a DS game. Hopefully some new info soon on the 2 new characters. I'm positive that those characters will get rebalanced for the console update.
Again fans with the same stupid questions smh. Anyway I'm sure capcom ain't that dumb eventually they'll see $$$ when they see DS. They like to make people suffer(mvc2 as a DL title on psn/Live,mvc3,sfiv,ssfiv) they like to create hype and see us begging for games. You already heard that Ono is a drama queen and be exaggerating things as is.
@yes4me
Inafune Directed / produced the magority of Megaman games. However he started to resent working for a large company recently. One of his first Capcom assignments was art designer for steet fighter 2.
Smart man - desert the sinking Crapcom ship before its embarrassing stains become indelible.
You guys need to relax on the DS, their hands are fully tied right now with SSFIV, SFxT, SF3 Online, MvC3. Not to mention other Capcom works non fighting game related. Those are a lot of fighters being worked on, you can't possibly expect a DS to be made at this time. When MvC3 and maybe SFxTekken is released, DS has a better chance to be greenlit.
It's not like the 90's where fighting games was their primary money maker. Since the decline of American Arcades and rise in consoles, capcom shifted to other original games like DmC, RE, some of the Clover Studios works and ect. Even though fighting games are back, there is not as big of support for these games as it use to be thanks to success in other franchises. Give this stuff time.
@42
Your right, but the thing about it is that Capcom's fighting game teams have no direct ties to those that work on non-fighting game related teams except funds. The team that works on Monster Hunter isn't related to the team that works on SSFIV, for example. If anything the MvC3 team is minorly only because their team pulls from the other's franchises. Regardless, if the SSFIV team is working on SxT, they probably should worry about finishing it first, since it's a joint operation. After that's over with, instead of working on SFV or a CvS3 fresh after finishing working on SxT, they could THEN focus on DS HD Remix, if only to cash in.
ALEX IS MAKING HIS DEBUT! I CAN ALMOST TASTE IT... Super Stun Gun Headbutt, Ultra 1 HYBER BOMB! ULTRA 2 BOOMERANG RAID! AWW YEAH!
BEST NEWS EVER that Inafune is gone. Because now:
1 We get Mega Man X in MvC3 as DLC.
2 Hopefully DmC cancelled and a proper Dante returning.
3 Mega Man X9 with story focusing on X and not on "Im a barby girl in the barby world (Zero)"
4 Many good things are still to come. Hope RE6 westernizing also stops.
5 Maybe Onimusha and Sengoku Basara can come to US now.
In other words, Inafune might've been DS' last hope.
