Aren't you that 4K+ Swedish player on PSN? I've played against you before, I think.
Troc and Casino are the only arcades I know in London but they're nothing like the ones in Japan.
looks cool, but to have something like that in the states its all about pricing. Today with the consoles being so good theres no way ull get me to pay a buck something a credit for something i can get my hands on for cheaper. If arcade operaters could get the prices down and manufacturers could build reliable machines for cheaper then maybe they could come back, but until then i doubt it.
@oohlookamonster
Also been living in Tokyo for about five years now, and spent a lot of my childhood in the Trocadero in London, which would be about ten years ago now, lol.
*high fives*
Loving these documentaries. Thank you eventhubs for sharing these with us. The arcade scene is definitely a community that deserves more time in the limelight.
@ OP and Jerry:
This post would better be retitled to "Hong Kong" instead of China since HK is totally different to mainland China in almost all aspects, and a cultural entity on it's own. Also KOF is very popular in China, but in HK SF is very big.
Also as SF players everybody should know HK is different from China: Check out the flags when playing Fei Long, Yun, Yang for instance, they all have the HK flag as opposed to Chun-Li, Gen,... having a Chinese flag next to their names!
@ Jerry
Have you even been to hk? Games aren't $1 hk unless you are playing a game that no one plays. The cheapest I've seen for street fighter is $6 which is about 80 cents american. Usually most arcades charge $1 american. The difference between arcades in American and hk and japan are the people. They don't want to spend a dollar and then lose it in 2 min or so after losing 1 match.
Ive been travelling a bit and I have to say Australia's $2/game is too much when the cabinet isn't even good.
Finally something worth sifting through the Gen Wii Eventscrubs drivel for...
i agree, i lived in jap for 4 month last summer. and although their arcade scenes are better, they are in decline regardless.... sort of sad...
@24
Wow, if it dies there then its really over. BUt like i said before its all about priceing and also offering a unique experience that can not be recreated at home. The arcade manufactures need to build reliable machines for cheaper so it would be easier for the operaters to turn profits. Its kinda hard to shell out 20k 30k on cabinets and charge a quarter a pop(u still have to maintain and power them, and dont forget other costs like rent and workers).
I really like this documentary to be finished, looks very very interesting. As a mexican living in argentina, the only thing I could say is that nobody cares too much about the fighting scene here, there's no money to pay those cabinets and theres no way to make the people spend even 1 dollar for a SF4 game or alike. The gimmicks games are the only ones left... Im really considering about moving out to Japan, and not because of the games, the whole culture in there is just fascinating. Thanks for the others for sharing d-_-b
